My favorite Dallas restaurant closed in this area so I was thankful to discover this fabulous seafood house. I tend to judge all seafood places by their crab cakes, if brave enough to offer them on their menu. These did not disappoint and I would come back just for them. But I did have a taste of the recommended (our Uber driver) crab bisque and it too was exceptional. My fish entree of Redfish with blue cheese butter was prepared very nice too. However, since we rarely order appetizers I was quite satisfied before it even arrived. Our waitress, Kendall couldn't have been more attentive and the bartender did an outstanding job on my Manhattan. Will seek out this chain (but doesn't seem like it) whenever I can! read more

Lots of folks from the neighborhood, so a real happy vibe. Excellent service from our waiter. Everything came out exactly as ordered. They all had trout and liked it. I did a grilled platter- catfish, shrimp and oysters. The shrimp was very good. Cooked perfectly. The catfish was OK. The tiny oysters disappointing. They were cooked, but no "grill" flavor, no caramelization from being on a grill. If I were to order oysters again I would probably only do something like fried, or Rockefeller. Good slaw. I was not expecting to be so impressed! I order Togo and when u arrived my food was ready. The front of the house girls were very helpful. I was expecting my food to be cold since I took a little longer to pick it up but no! It was still warm. I ordered the ho ey chipotle shrimp tacos with a cup of clam chowder soup and also fish and chips. The tacos are delicious and probably one of the best shrimp tacos I have ever tried. Extremely frustrating that they have not removed themselves from Uber Eats while the location is closed. While I've expressed my displeasure over having my order cancelled with Uber Eats, I hold the restaurant responsible for not telling Uber Eats that they are closed and allowing them to continue to promote the restaurant and take orders for it. Reply to owner on 10/27- if you're not on Uber Eats, it's because you had yourself removed recently. I placed an order for this location on 10/2 on Uber Eats. At the time I expected my order to be delivered it was cancelled. When I followed up with Uber to find out what the problem was, they told me this location was not open for lunch. Only after I searched for your hours online did I discover that this location is closed. I now see that this location is removed from Uber Eats. Hhhhhmmm, I wonder when that happened. I was craving some hot biscuits and I just left Central Market and saw they opened a Fish City Grill close by so I decided to try it even though there were no biscuits because at that point I was hungry anyways.The overall setup is interesting to say the least. You come in, doesnt appear to be a hostess stand but there was a hostess area. To go orders have to be placed in the back of the restaurant, I always found that a little weird but whatever. The staff are decently nice. Most have said hello, some just passed me and went about their day. About 95% of them were not wearing masks but I didnt take a star off for that as that is the businesses private right and guidelines of what they can enforce. However the main points are being deducted for the product. I ordered the Red Fish Special with the Honey Cornbread and a side of garlic spinach. Paid about $35 for this whole meal. Got a small bag, opened the package and was surprised how small the meal was. Just a small piece of fish on a big piece of cornbread with some fried okra and crema sauce. While the fish was good the cornbread was very very bland. I felt like there was no honey in it. The fried okra served with it was decent I will give it that but it wasnt enough to save this dish. Even though the location was in a more upper class area I still feel like the price didnt match the food. For $35 I couldve went to Red Lobster and gotten way more food although Im sure they place themselves higher than Red Lobster but I didnt see it. I think I will keep going to Razzoos, Red Lobster, and Rockfish Grill as I feel those are better establishments with decent prices and better food but I will keep it at 3 stars for the decent service, speedy cooking, and general atmosphere. read more

(see what I did there.. lol) They have plenty of unique dishes & specials to choose from! Started with 1/2 dozen Chargrilled Oysters that come seasoned with Parmesan and herbs by default - It's the closest thing to Oysters Rockefeller that they have and I can't even describe the taste. I don't think I'd be doing it justice. For my main meal, I had the Salmon & Cod Chile Relleno with a cup of Crab Bisque soup. 1. I don't think I've ever seen a pepper that big... 2. It was insanely delicious!! My friend tried their Shrimp & Scallop Pasta and that was to die for as well! Can't forget to mention that the customer service was awesome! What a great find. We're from out of town and searched several restaurants that had full waitlists on a Sat eve, so we opted to try Fish City. They don't take reservations- but our wait was only 5 minutes. The restaurant had a casual well decorated comfortable atmosphere. Jerry did an excellent job making sure we were well taken care of- she was a gem. The bar did a great job on the drinks- recommend the Prickly Pear Margarita and Espresso Martini - a good start. We had calamari and boiled shrimp appetizers- yum. The Seared Scallops with Bacon-wrapped shrimp were very good as was the fried seafood platter. My wife had the Shrimp and Grits and will be her choice on our next visit. The burgers and specials on the board were good too. The whole family gave two thumbs up. Finished the evening with bread pudding for dessert. One of the best evenings out in months that was very reasonably priced. Looking forward to our next trip to Dallas! read more

Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Am glad I did. Went there on a Friday evening. The placed was crowded but the wait was less than 30 minutes and there was plenty of seating just outside. The service was prompt. While we waited, and since it was our first time in, the manager gave us a sampler flight of their soups and a shrimp bite. That was a nice touch and the sampler did not disappoint. I ordered the Alaskan salmon with grilled sweet potato, and a cucumber dill salad in a yogurt style dressing. I also ordered a virgin Hurricane. Everything was excellent. The salmon was perfectly cooked, moist and savory. The sweet potatoes were excellent as well. My only suggestion would be to put the cucumber salad in a small cup as the dressing was a bit messy on the plate. Had I not been driving, I would have loved some rum in that Hurricane; but it still was really good. My friend had the fish and chips along with a side of red beans and rice. He enjoyed his meal as well. It looked really good and the fish coating was crunchy while the fish remained moist. I sampled the red beans and rice and thought it was really flavorful; they could stand alone as a meal! The ambiance was nice and the bar was busy. I love that Fish City Grill is back in Preston Hollow. They have the best stuffed flounder, as well as fried calamari, the crab cake appetizer, shrimp poboy and don't pass on the cheesy grits. Amazing service here. 1st time diners get a soup sampler with an oyster nacho and the wait staff is very friend and eager to make sure you have a wonderful experience. The restaurant is decked out in cool and kitcshy nautical decor. It's conveniently located at Preston and royal which means busy area but I've never had any trouble finding parking. My friend and I got the oyster nachos, and apparently there is a special for those on Wednesday. For the special, it's worth it! Not sure what the usual price is. After the appetizer, the waiter brought a sampler of the soups, all of but one I enjoyed. My entree was the honey chipotle shrimp tacos. Man, these tacos were packed! A lot of places skimp on the shrimp (hah, I rhymed!) but not fish city grill. The ingredients were well distributed so you could get a balance in every bite, unlike those tacos that are made in layers and you get nothing but lettuce in your first bite, ugh. The flavors were refreshing but still had a punch with the chipotle and sweetness from the honey. My boss has also been here and she told me that they are very gracious about letting you get a new dish if you try something and end up not liking it. I know a lot of people would be uncomfortable with doing this, but their promise makes trying dishes a lot more reassuring. Definitely recommend this place if you're into seafood and some wonderful service! read more

We went to one of our favorite restaurants in the area. The food was amazing, especially the salmon special with peaches. The Sockeye salmon was prepared with beurre Blanc sauce, served over jasmine rice with roasted almonds and grilled peaches. Salmon was cooked perfectly and the flavors were heaven! Great little seafood restaurant! Everything was very tasty and the staff was super friendly. They brought out an oyster nacho bite and a 5 soup sampler to taste all of their soups because we were first time customers. All of the soups and the oyster nacho were delicious. The calamari was flashed fried like it should be and was very tender and seasoned well. It was served with a mayo based dipping sauce and a chili sweet sauce that both complimented the calamari wonderfully. The crab stuffed flounder was excellent! Cooked perfectly and stuffed with a tasty crab meat. The dish was topped with a lemon butter caper sauce. Capers were the perfect touch to add a bit of saltiness. The bread pudding was also outstanding, a large serving topped with a sweet bourbon syrup that soaked right into the breading. Very rich and yummy. Everything was great and no complaints! I was really excited for the char grilled oysters and signature fish tacos but both dishes left me wanting something more. However, their fish dishes were just delicious! We were a group of 7 so we ordered a bit of everything off of the menu. The char grilled oysters were ok but lacked some flavoring. The calamari was nice and crispy with a yummy aioli for dipping. Their clam chowder was creamy but could have used a pinch more salt. Their fish "taco" was not what i expected. I wouldn't call it a taco - it was more like a burrito because it's wrapped in a tortilla and then grilled. Because they grill it with the cheese and slaw, the fish batter was a bit soggy and not as crispy as it should have been. The poboy wasnt a hit for us either. However, the miso glazed seabass and another blackened fish option (I cant remember the name) were delicious!! I ate every bit of the fish, snow peas and rice on my plate. Usually when a publication (Dallas morning news) make a claim that a restaurant is one of the best in the Dallas Ft Worth area I'll put it on my bucket list to go so I visited fish city grill..first impression it was a very lively place upon entering ..I sat down at the bar and immediately greeted and served..I ordered a bowl of gumbo..normally I would go with a cup on first time visits but I read they are the 2nd best seafood in the metroplex..I should have stuck with my normal protocol..really nothing special bout that gumbo..lack of ingredients best describes it..then I ordered the shrimp and crab dip..it was tasty and very cheesy..my main dish was the pecan crusted salmon..the salmon had a lack of flavor and seasoning..I used 3 different types of hot sauce to find balance..eventually I ran outta fish before I was able to achieve that..again service was good and attentive and food came out quickly but if you are the 2nd best in area I don't blame the restaurant..I blame the people who said that you are the 2nd best ... read more

We stopped in on the spur of the moment. We were surprised how busy it was for 6 pm. We checked in with the host and put in our name. We waited for about 10 minutes before we were called for our table. Definitely not a long wait, but the restaurant is set up in a way that if you're waiting for a table, there is nowhere to stand or sit, so it's a bit awkward looming other diner's tables. We sat down, looked at the menu. Both my husband and I have never tried oysters before, but we were feeling courageous, so we asked our server Courtney, if we could try one each, and she obliged. She brought two to our table complete with dipping sauce and told us ways to eat the oyster. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. After our oyster experience (I liked it, husband wasn't so sure) we ordered our meal. I had the shrimp and grits, and he had the fish and chips. I was a little disappointed that my meal only had five small shrimp, and the rest was just grits. I don't think I'd order that again. The husband liked his fish and chips. We ordered the ooey goey sundae for dessert, and took a key lime pie to go. We mentioned to Courtney that we were going to the Central Market next door, and she offered to keep our key lime pie in their fridge, and we could pick it up when we were done shopping. Once upon a time, spices were used to preserve foods and to enhance flavors. Cooks discovered that specific spices, combined with specific raw ingredients, created a complete taste that was greater than the sum of its parts. Fish City Grill is one of a plague of currently trendy fish places that have overturned this basic principle. Dry pilaf overdosed with garam masala (or maybe it was just cinnamon)... yahoo! Oyster nachos so overwhelmed with pico de gallo you can't find the oysters... yeehah! Fish tacos dependent on a pink mayonnaise they call chipotle tartar sauce... let's ride! You don't find this kind of insanity at beef places, where people are still looking to taste the steak along with the sizzle. But we are evidently afraid of fish and if we can't taste it, that's good. Certainly this place is wildly popular and my dining companion as well as several family members can't get enough of it. But please do yourself a favor. Go to S&D Oyster House or another old-time fish place and try a simple, perfect plate of grilled snapper or another unadorned fish. "Why don't you try our [$14.99 per 1/2 dozen]" super-special organic cage-free grown-by-hand east coast oysters?" Out of mashed potatoes (wtf x 2?) "Why don't you try our premium shrimp and grits as a side?" "Our house selection of vodka is terrible [managers, take note] so try our hand-made, lovingly filtered through the diamonds of South Africa version of Tito's?" Really. Really? Sweetie, just please refill my city-flavored water and don't try to tell me how awesome the bottled agua is. It's f@$king water. I couldn't pay the check fast enough so I could go somewhere else. Neighborhood Sevices serves spectacular seafood, is in the same parking lot, and the servers aren't Joe's Crab Shack castoffs. I understand the up-sell as I worked in the industry for way too many years. Getting that PPA up is important. But please, toeing the company line and providing good service are not mutually exclusive. Answer my questions, refill my drinks, and bring me my food. I go to the Frankford location 2-3 times a month. Save yourself the suffering and drive 10 minutes north. The manager is awesome, and the staff follow suit. My husband and I took a very special friend to Fish City Grill last night-Dec 16,2018 - and had the best food, atmosphere and service. Tyler was our wait person, and SO AMAZING! I would liken his service to that of great conductor. He knew who, what, when, where, and why to serve everything. We are a senior couple and have grown up around great food and great wait staff our entire lives. This young man, Tyler, was the very best we experienced in a long time. Now, the food. ABSOLUTELY scrumptious, seasoned to perfection, and fresh as can be. This is the best seafood in Dallas, Texas. No, really. People seem to love this place...heck, even Wade Phillips apparently loves this place. Ate lunch two tables away from him just last Sunday. He was celebrating T.O.'s departure. haaa...just kidding...maybe. Who's to say?? So, looking at the menu, I was like, "Hm, these prices are pretty reasonable." I ordered the Six Shrimp Dinner with waffle fries and cole slaw...I think it was only $8.99 or so. What they don't tell you on the menu is that it's actually the Waffle Fries Dinner with a side of shrimp. Holy moly...that explains how they get away with such low prices. Well, at least the waffle fries are good. The shrimp were too, but as the former manager of an industrial kitchen (long story), I could tell that the grill hadn't been cleaned in a while. The shrimp had acquired a good coating of grill gunk in the process of being cooked. The cole slaw was good, but nothing to write home about. I snagged some hush puppies from a fellow diner's plate, and thoooose were delicious...but okay, fried cornbread? You really would have to work hard to mess that up. I've never had a hush puppy I didn't like. Overall...a decent seafood place, good for the price. Probably not worth anything more than a 10-minute wait, though. Hop next door to Celebrity or Marco's if all the tables at Fish City are full. Which, surprisingly, they just might be...so maybe I should give it a second try someday. Waiting in a long line is the only setback I've ever experienced at FCG- but with the inexpensive menu, fully stocked bar (I get tipsy off of one margarita here! They don't skimp!), friendly waitstaff (especially the petite salt and pepper haired greeter who is quicker than I could ever be),and huge plates of food, you'll know why so many people are there. It is definitely well worth the wait, and with the paging system you can even do some shopping at Borders while you're in line. My friends and I usually start with their tasty cream-of-jalapeno soup, and I typically go on to a Buffalo Shrimp PoBoy, though I have tried other options like a pineapple Tilapia special and the fish tacos, and have never experienced any food that ranked below amazing! Most important thing I can say - and remember this- is TRY the pecan cobbler. The first bite of this had me moaning like a porn star. The warm gooey cobbler with just enough crunch is paired with the cool icecream.... and the whole dish just melts in your mouth like a snowman on the first day of spring (what?). Mmm! I am so mad that I just found this place!!! Let me share: First things first, the dirty martini was AWESOME!! Perfectly balanced. For once, I didn't have to ask for more "dirty". Then they have something for first time visitors that has a tiny sample of all of their soups (OMG the clam chowder and the gumbo!). The little special freebie also had red beans/rice and an oyster nacho. Maaaaaaaaaaannn! So good. So I placed a to-go order for crawfish but to balance the martini I also placed an order of 6 oysters to enjoy while I waited. I got 12 for the price of 6 because the guy thought they were too small. They were delicious and so perfect! After chatting it up with the people around the bar and the bartender, I got the crawfish and took them home. I ordered just a little because I was uncertain. Frankly it is hard to find good traditionally boiled crawfish. These were SO good!! Very flavorful, traditional, and juicy. They could be spicier but they were close to perfect. Add in the best service I've had in forever, the way the bartender knew the regulars and made them feel at home, and the friendliness of the other guests-this place was everything! I can't leave out the cost. Reasonable!! Moment of truth. I did not want to love it as it wasn't very, ummmmm "diverse" (meaning I was the only person of color in the entire place).
