Went tonite for our weekly date nite; first visit to Georgie's though we've been in Georgetown…read moresince 2003. Saw the name when searching seafood here. The website mentioned reservations but accepting walk-ins also; my wife made a reservation for 8 at 7:40p, and that turned out well, as the couple in front of us hadn't done so & went out front to wait. We had a very attentive waitress, & sat on a raised stage by the window which was cool, but note: tall chairs there maybe not great for short legs. When she poured our water we didn't have to request, she left the carafe, which I supposed was a labor saving idea --until she came back repeatedly and refilled our glasses with it! It aided our date night that the two flat screens had artworks displayed not a basketball game or Chive videos of folks getting injured for 15 seconds of fame. Menu is in the upper middle price range for us but we did an easy work-around to get some upscale food, anyway:: We ordered a bowl of gumbo from the appetizer list, with two spoons; (yeah, been married 41 years)... Arrived perfect temp, not to hot to dig right in. The 6 crab claws broken to expose the meat were a nice touch we've never seen; we try everyone's gumbo: prolly the best we've had recently if ever. Continuing that theme, we shared the 14 oz Japanese style (name recipes me) new horn strip, truly too much for one normal appetite: the already flavorful tender steak was helped even more by a unique brown sauce with capers: and my Dad said a good steak doesn't NEED any help. Well, this steak was so good let's just say "the sauce was gravy." We like Brussels sprouts broiled; so my wife asked when ordering the steak, which comes with creamed sprouts, if they could be broiled: instead our waitress asked the chefs who actually flash fried them with salt and pepper, perfectly, with crunchy outer leaves & al dent inside. My wife ordered a 14.00 glass of Pinot noir; the cool wine glass was a generous size --and filled generously. We like the pretentious wine descriptions from the backs of bottles; bartender let us take a photo of the label but suggested the "vivino" app to get the lowdown on any wine. Finished off sharing the bread pudding with rum soaked yellow raisins, great flavor without excess sweetness, and thanked our waitress Katy.

Awful customer service. Especially when making reservations…read more I go here a lot, because I like dry aged steak, but I can't get over the customer service around reservations. As a combat vet, I feel uncomfortable AF eating in the middle of a tiny and cramped dining room. The dining room is so small and packed here that I'm surprised that the fire marshal even allows that many people to be sat in there. Still, when I ask for a booth and say that I don't want to eat in the middle of that tiny dining room when I make a reservation, I find it odd to be sat in the middle of the dining dining room only to see that there's multiple parties that were just sat in booths and haven't even gotten their drinks yet--like, they were just sat before us (and we were on time for our reservation). I think you could have a little more respect for your customers is all. For that reason alone, you're not worth the price of your half-baked pretense in my opinion. You get a one-star for that reason alone. On the quality front, the ribeyes I get are more and more consistently riddled with connective tissue and are hard to eat, with a lot of waste. Not exactly the quality of meat cut one expects for the price. Sometimes they nail it, but I'd say at least a third of the time my ribeyes are almost half scrap. The quality seems to be diminishing since I first started frequenting this place. So, perhaps your supplier sucks. Idk. Pick your meat better if you want to demand higher prices. I think I'll stop coming back at this point. 2020 Market has good steak, too. Only I haven't dealt with so much connective tissue in my steak there. And also, I haven't had issues with my reservations there. So you lose me to your competition after having gotten so much money out of me. Consistent quality and customer service could maintain such consistent regular customers in your sales. What a weird way to lose customers. Your whole business is customer service and cooking food well. Do better.

If you want great seafood and service, this is the place. I asked for an off menu item and the general manager, Michael Frazier, went into the kitchen and prepared it. That never happens anywhere else. We were overcome with joy, and let me tell you there aren't enough words to describe this coconut shrimp. Superb, comes to mind, because I've ordered it in places all over Texas, New Orleans, and even New York City and those don't even come close to what we had last night. I hope this delicacy becomes a mainstay on the menu. We always ask for Justin Battison to be our server. He's sassy and extremely entertaining, but his service is impeccable. Found this place by accident while looking for a retail store. Was hungry and it looked interesting so decided to stop in for a bite. Expected it to be something like a Long John Silvers, fast food. Wow, did I ever get the shock of my life! Our server, Kitty, was super fun and made our visit enjoyable. Being our first time, they brought us samples of 5 soups and an oyster appetizer. We didn't expect that and were thrilled with the taste. The soups are made by the staff, not out of a can. Really tasty! I ordered the fish and chips....perfect ! Heard there was new management here so I decided to try it again. Well, new management still has not cured the lack of attention to detail. Dirty silverware, dirty booth and filthy bathroom left me with a dirty feeling. Still don't get why it is so hard for a manager to visit a table vs. sit at the bar and watch TV. The service model is a little unusual. You order at the counter, get a number on a stick with the order printout folded onto it, you take it to a table you choose where a server comes and grabs the order printout, then brings your food, then you pay the server at the end. At first I saw more moppers and bussers than I saw servers, but we got helped pretty promptly. The food did not take too long. My companion order a grilled chicken sandwich (not on the menu) and sweet potato waffle fries. I tried a dinner, chicken-fried chicken with slaw and mashed potatoes. The food was good though not amazingly so, though to be fair we didn't try things on the wild side. The mashed potatoes looked a little grey, but that's because the skins are mashed in and they were actually really good. The other highlight was the sweet potato waffle fries, perfect crisp, not overly seasoned. I had a beer instead of the premixed frozen beverages. My chief complaint is the noise amplification from high, hard ceilings and concrete floors and other hard, flat surfaces. The clamor of kids even four tables away made conversation a little tough. Plus, they pipe in music, which frankly they should keep only in the bar area if possible.

The Bartender actually came and told me they were out of grilled chicken but could do the deep fried. He went to put in a new order as the kitchen brought my meal out. Instead of sliced grilled chicken, there were only a few small pieces of chicken scattered throughout the salad. It was disappointing both in quality and portion. Three visits gave us more than enough opportunity to form an opinion. Unfortunately, neither of us was happy with our most recent meal, and when combined with the service issues we've experienced on previous visits, we can't recommend this location. We wanted to like it and gave it multiple chances, but we won't be returning.

When the breading becomes the main character, that's a sign the dish needs editing. Now, the mixed drinks? Those were actually good -- balanced, not overly sweet, and honestly the highlight of the meal. And I have to give credit where it's due: our waitress was attentive, friendly, and checked on us consistently without hovering. She did everything right. The food just didn't match her level of service. And look... I'm not trying to be dramatic, but I've had better crab at HEB during crawfish season for a fraction of the price. When your grocery‑store boil is hitting harder than the restaurant version, that's saying something. Overall, Surfing Crab wasn't a disaster, but it wasn't memorable either. We had ordered the Pommes Frites (truffle fries), also on the appetizer menu - good flavor but I thought the fries could have been a bit crispier which would have made them better. We finished with a basque cheesecake - my wife is gluten free and this comes without a crust. This might have been the highlight of the food - we've not had a basque style cheesecake before though so maybe it is just new/unique to us, but we really enjoyed this. A bit more dense than a traditional cheesecake but not overly rich, I really liked it. I would highly recommend this as a romantic dinner night, but I also felt that the price was very fair given the quality of food and service. We will be back for more casual visits for sure.
