This was my third visit to FCG. First two visits were really good. This last visit was not. Started with the char grilled oysters. They were not fresh and had a strong fishy taste. Then I had the blackened redfish. It tasted fishy as well and was accompanied by really bland potatoes. My wife had the herb crusted tilapia which she states was acceptable. We ordered the sampler appetizer and it look a long time, we didn't even get halfway through it before the meal came. My husband ordered the redfish special and it was very good, but the portion was lacking, especially the vegetable side. I ordered the choose two...fried catfish and fried oysters. The catfish was great...hot and crispy. The oysters were cold and mushy. Like the center was cold. They were NOT good. My family and I went here for dinner. I had the salmon bbq chipotle tacos. The tacos exceeded my expectations although I would have liked for them to be spicy or at least have a side of pico. My daughter ordered the fish sticks and although she was not a fan of them being non traditional I was impressed. They use actual whole fish for their fish sticks. My husband ordered scallops with mashed potatoes, my other daughter a cheese burger. Both were satisfied with their food. I also tried their prickly pear margarita (What an original flavor!) and it was delicious!! Might I add we sat outside and enjoyed the view of the pond. My spouse & I arrived on Wednesday at about 3:45 PM. A nice young man opened the door with a warm welcome & seated us at one of the few available afternoon tables. Our friendly female server greeted us promptly to explain the menu including the specials listed on their huge chalk board. However, she returned a few minutes later to explain she excitedly was going home early to take care of hew one-year-old rescue "puppy". Therefore, Caprice took over our table service. We settled on starting with a bowl of crab bisque for me and gumbo for him followed by a house salad for each. Our entree selection for both of us was one of February's specials: herb crusted cod Oscar with Hollandaise sauce, crab chunks & asparagus atop white rice. And we shared a warm bread pudding for dessert. The food was quite delicious & the service was truly outstanding. My only critique is that since neither one of us eats as fast as we used to eat, it would've been nice to have more time between the arrival of the soup/salad & the entree. I prefer not to scarf down my food all at the same time, especially food that delicious! One of the restaurant managers did stop by to check on us so I passed this comment along to him. I think next time we'll order in two parts to resolve this issue. One very nice surprise for us as first-time diners was a free sharing sample of each of their four soup selections (the two noted above plus spicy jalapeño and clam chowder) and two boiled shrimp in cocktail sauce. Yummy! The small dining room has tables, booths and bar seating available for dining along with full liquor service. It appeared that a small outdoor seating area overlooking the picturesque lake may be available for drinks & dining once our weather gets warm. All-in-all, Fish City Grill, open only about a month or so, is now our go-to restaurant for freshly prepared fish in metro Waco. It's a nice change from mainly fried seafood. One word of caution - I understand the grill is extremely busy for lunch and again for dinner, especially Saturday nights. So don't be surprised to find a crowded parking lot and/or a wait line. This was our third visit to Fish City Grill. Each time we hope the food improves. Unfortunately, it has not. We arrived around 5:00 pm and there were five other customers. So, not busy. Ordered the special fish tacos and the happy hour hamburger. The tacos tortillas were cold and tough. They obviously were right out of cooler. Fried shrimp not crisp more a saute. The burger was requested cooked medium; it came out rare. Buns were cold. The fries with burger appeared to have been fried early morning or yesterday. We really want to like this restaurant. Waco needs a good seafood restaurant. And, no we don't send food back. We'll keep hoping they get it together. The mistakes are easy to fix. read more

The food here was beyond excellent. I like that they handed out samples of fried pickles while we waited for our table. Once we sat down they brought us a new customer sampler, as this was our first time in, of all if their soups and peel and eat shrimp(1 a piece).
