My wife ordered lobstertail/claw/ scallops/shrimp. All overcooked to the point of being rubbery and chewy. No flavor. I ordered my very first lobster roll. What?? This for $36.00??? A tiny little bun with tasteless whatever in it? Served with cold day-old McDonalds fries? We have traveled in 45 states. This $80.00 wasted on one of the worst meals we have ever ordered in a restaurant. read more

The linquine with white clam sauce is AMAZING!!!! Granted enjoying it on their deck over the water was special - but they nailed this dish and I highly recommend it. Plus their blueberry pie is the best - and I grew with a Memere (french for grandma) who made an amazing blueberry pie. Their blueberry pie is at this level of incredible. Lunch at Fish House was exactly what we expected - they had all the variety of seafoods, seared, grilled and fried. Service was pleasant and fast, food was good; the decent beer selection and outdoor picnic table seating was perfect in the nice weather. Prices are a little high but for a touristy spot on the water it was to be expected. The mozzarella sticks are actually logs, and I would assume weigh about 1/4 pound each. They are BIG. The fried clams were fresh and delicious. My all time favorite thing, surprisingly, was the cornbread. Wow. Good stop for crowd pleasing seafood in Bar Harbor. If you're looking for something a little less touristy, this probably isn't the place for you, but hey, I'm a tourist! read more

Fantastic service. Veronica was absolutely everything you would expect from a server in a pre-covid resort area. Attentive, but not overbearing - made sure our kids were taken care of first, then drinks, and even checked in shortly after dinners were delivered. My husband and I have not had service like hers since pre-covid times. The food was totally fine, and we could have probably gotten the same food at any number of other restaurants with a less scenic view. This restaurant's best feature is the view. Since it was raining, we took in the harbor from a booth at a window, but the outdoor seating, when available, puts you at the water's edge. The kitchen was a weakness. Although my wife enjoyed her clam chowder, it was a little thick for my taste, and my mussels in beer were unnecessarily salty. We each had crab salad, hers in a roll, mine in a Caesar salad. Though edible, it lacked the zip of fresh crab. The salad itself had been made with a prepared dressing augmented with slivers of Parmesan and lacked the robust flavor of an authentic Caesar. The service was pleasant but spotty. My wife's French fries arrived as she was about to finish the rest of her meal. However, I predict that the bus boy, who courteously asked if he could clear away a few dishes for us, will end up as a captain. read more

The next night we went back for our anniversary and hubby tried the Lazy Lobster and it was the first time he liked Lobster. I was able to get my fill of crab legs that were also amazing! We came in on a cruise ship last Thursday. My wife and my daughter 31 years old got a seat at the bar because the tables were one hour wait bartender walked around like we weren't even there. I believe the fellow who was possibly the owner took our drink order and then he was gone busy with customers. The bar wasn't that busy you finally had to ask for menus finally had to ask him to come over and take our order. Really felt like he didn't want us there and that we were bothering him? The kitchen staff was hustling the wait staff was hustling the bartender did not seem to have much of a fire under his ass! When our food finally came we had to ask for a napkins silverware everything we needed we had to ask for it was a terrible experience we ate our food which was pretty good except for the fact that my wife didn't get what she wanted but we took it anyways because we were so frustrated. Bartender admitted he made a mistake didn't even offer to comp anything or reduce the price free drink whatever.. on a $100 bill I gave the guy $5 tip and I walked away feeling bad about that I should have given him nothing! plenty of other places to go next time. We came here for dinner while staying in Bar Harbor. The outdoor patio is not that big, and unfortunately most of the views were blocked. The food is okay. My lobster bisque was too thick, and barely had any lobster or flavor. Skip this one. My fish tacos were dry, and I had to ask for some extra sauce. One of the folks in my party raved about the fish and chips, which was perfectly battered and fried crispy. Service was pleasant- and the food came out quickly. Had a solid meal of Lobster Bake and Fried Clams. No drama What really impressed us was that the manager looked at my meal from across the room and felt the clams were overdone. I was fine with them. Our first night in Bar Harbor found us taking the easy option on the pier. We both liked the cheery atmosphere in here, especially when the power went out right as the server came to take our order. It was getting pretty windy outside and everything on the pier had gone off as well, so it wasn't just local. Fortunately they had a gas grill so cooking could continue. Allegedly if the power hadn't returned by the time we'd finished the meal, we wouldn't have to pay.. so they told us. Avoiding the 'lobster, lobster' lobster' section of the menu, we opted for the lightly fried scallops as we're both fans of this particular bivalve mollusc. We were not disappointed as they were cooked to perfection, almost melting on the tongue. the added ambience of flickering torchlight and howling gale outside the plastic window made for a memorable evening's dining. Sadly (for us), the power was restored before we'd finished eating, so we had to pay. But it was worth it. read more

We came upon this place by accident having done no research or anything. It seems that doesn't happen to us much anymore. Let me tell you, we came upon a winner! So exciting when that happens! We can't say anything about the fish. My husband and I don't do fish. However, we can attest to many other things here. I had the delicious caprese sandwich. I have to tell you I wasn't expecting much, no research remember. I was quite impressed. They melted the mozzarella just a tad to shake it up a bit. The basalmic vinegar seemed reduced just a tad to make it more robust. It really hit the spot. The onions were nice too. They know how to fry them just right with a thin layer of breading. My husband had the fires and steak sandwich. He thought the sandwich was filling and good. The fries were ok, could have used a double fry. We also enjoyed som drinks. I had a goblet, literally, of margarita. It was perfect for me. Not too strong. My husband enjoyed quite a few of the Atlantic beers on tap. The service was wonderful. Prompt. Friendly. Smiley. Personable. Not cheesy. We also took our golden retriever. They have a couple dog tables designated. Luckily, we got there early. They even brought him a bowl of water. Fish House Grill is a large seafood restaurant and bar located on the waterfront at the town pier at 1 West Street in downtown Bar Harbor. The restaurant occupies the lower level of a large two-store building it shares with Bar Harbor Whale Watch Company, Oli's Trolley (tour bus), Acadia Air Tours, and Sunrise Cafe. You can enter the restaurant from the pier or through the street-side main entrance to the building on the upper level. There is street parking (mostly two hours or less) and an adequately sized parking lot (three hour parking limit) at the extreme end of the building. Parking on the street or in the lot is free. After a very cold 4 plus hours at sea on a whale watch cruise we were pretty hungry so we meandered right into the restaurant from the dock after disembarking off the ship. We made sure to hang on to our whale watch tickets as we were informed they would get us a ten percent discount at the Fish House Grill. There is dining inside the restaurant as well the bar area and an outside area on the dock. We were seated in a booth next to a window looking out over the water. We were a group of 11 so we occupied two booths and a table. I'm a big guy so I appreciated the wide aisles and adequate elbow room. Being in a prime tourist area prices are a tad on the high side but not outrageous, with our ten percent discount it was pretty reasonable. Service was friendly and efficient throughout our meal. Drinks were refilled promptly and food was delivered at proper pace. We didn't order any appetizers but complementary cornbread with real butter pats was delivered to our tables. I've never been a big fan of cornbread but I absolutely loved this cornbread. The texture was just right with a touch of sweetness. It's a real treat, truly delicious. I managed to snap pics of our entrees as they arrived but somehow I forgot to snap a shot of my fried Captain's Platter. It was a nice presentation of an outstanding plate. It was piled high with generous portions of whole belly clams, shrimp and scallops then topped off with a big haddock filet. French fries and coleslaw accompanied the order. I like to squeeze a little lemon over my seafood so appreciated the lettuce and lemon wedge garnish. Years ago this was pretty standard for restaurants serving seafood but these days it's kind of uncommon. The creamy coleslaw was decent but not outstanding, everything else on my plate was fabulous. The haddock, clams, shrimp and scallops were amazing, lightly breaded and seasoned just right. I enjoyed them immensely. The french fries were really delicious too. Hot and crispy but still soft inside, they were wonderful. I love sprinkling malt vinegar on my fries and I didn't even have to ask for it, it was already on the table. My wife had crab cakes with french fries and sautéed green beans. Green beans were on point, seasoned wonderfully with just the right crispness. The crab cakes looked great and my wife really enjoyed them but to be honest I thought they were just average. My mother had the seared sea scallops which were cooked just right and really delicious. She also had the green beans and boiled new potatoes which were very nice. Dad and a few others in our party had the fried haddock sandwich and french fries, you already know it was amazing. My brother had the Baked Stuffed Haddock topped with lobster bisque, it was indescribably delicious. My sister had a very nice lobster roll which she really enjoyed. Her husband had the Spicy Shrimp Po' Boy. I didn't sample it but he raved about it. The kids got chicken tenders and grilled cheese with fries, they were satisfied. This review got a little lengthy so I'm wrapping it up. I started out with a four star rating but as I wrote the review I came to realize it really deserved the fifth star. I don't give five stars lightly but the food we had here was spectacular and the service was stellar. If I ever return to Bar Harbor you can bet I'll make it a point to dine at Fish House Grill again. read more

I am not sure why people are so negative about this place. Though I do understand everyone has a different experience but ours was great. First of all, this is one of the only if not the only, raw bar in the area so huge points for that! Coming from NJ, we can get Raw Clams and Oysters in a lot of places and almost any where down the Jersey Shore. My husband and I have been to Bar Harbor 8 times and we always passed this place by for some reason. We thought it was more of a Tourist place, booking tours and getting flyers until last week when we were there, and as we were walking to another place we frequent I saw a RAW BAR sign and that was all I needed. So we changed plans and went there. It wasn't the nicest day so we ate inside. I had the lobster, which is cheaper than any where else and cooked the same way. I also had 6 clams and 6 Oysters which were delicious and if people think they were expensive, come to NJ. My husband had the Ahi Tuna for appetizer and the Haddock and he loved it. They also did a Patron Bloody Mary for me which again is HUGE points. And we did the Oyster Shooter too which was delicious. After dinner we went to hang out at the Bar and we talked the owner who was very nice. He sat and talked to me and my husband for quite a while about different things and even suggested we try the Side Street Café for Dinner one night which we did.. The only con I see is the damn Cruise ships in Bar harbor - Fish House Grill's dock is where the let the passengers off that were disembarking from the ship and getting back on, and it can be nuts . NOT THE OWNERS FAULT, but the town of Bar Harbor. This is a great atmosphere and I would give it a try if you go to Bar Harbor. We will be going back when we go back to Bar Harbor next year and hopefully we can sit outside with our Dog. Yes, they are dog Friendly as well. read more

I was visiting Bar Harbor with the family for 4th of July weekend and some friends in Bar Harbor got us a table right out on the pier to watch fireworks on the 4th. The place was filled as expected and the view of the fireworks was amazing. I got the peel n' eat shrimp as an appetizer and they was AMAZING. an absolute 5/5. There was a great combination of flavors and the shrimp were obviously very very fresh. For my main course, I got the whole lobster with corn and potatoes. Lobster is hard to make good or bad, so basically it was just lobster, but the sides were great, which made the main course a great experience. The service was wonderful, especially considering the place was packed for 4th of July. read more

I'm not able to do a 4-1/2 star review but that is what we would give this place as it was very good. Coming from southern Maine, we have a great deal of experience with seafood and, as my girlfriend is a chef, we have a firm grasp of what is good quality. I started with the bisque soup. It came out with a nice lobster red color and had an excellent consistency albeit from some added flour. Although it was a clam based broth, the taste was delicious and it had plenty of lobster body/knuckle pieces. We then shared the peel-n-eat shrimp and muscles appetizers. Although the muscles were on the small side, they were grit-free and tasty. The garlic butter broth was so good that we soaked up every drop with the toasted garlic bread that was also provided. Although the shrimp were rather small in size, the portion was huge. The Old Bay based broth was excellent and we had them hot instead of cold. The local Atlantic Brewing Co. provided the yummy blueberry beers and their Bloody Mary was also very good. Of course, what drew us in to this restaurant is sitting outside to view Booth Bay Harbor. read more

The location is great, but that is about it! We had mussels just a wine sauce as an app that someone forgot to use wine and instead used straight chicken broth! Not a good dish at all. Basically steamed mussels in chicken broth. The entrees were expensive and mediocre at best. I had the house specially, "seafood Elizabeth" which is various seafoods in a marinara sauce which was really just tomato sauce from a can. This was the best meal we had during our visit to Bar Harbor. The food was largely portioned and absolutely delicious. My boyfriend ordered the market seafood and he said it was the freshest from all the places we went to. I ordered their grilled chicken covered in a mushroom, pepper sauce with rice pilaf. After a long rainy day we noticed that the Fish House had a Happy Hour that started at 4 pm which was all we needed to know to descend on the place. We all ordered the Lobster Dinner for $16.99 and we were all fat and happy. They have a nice happy hour beer menu, and the Lobster dinner came with the obligatory corn and potatoes with the added touch of a cornbread of the table. The service was good, the menu was diverse enough and the desert of blueberry pie was unanimously enjoyed by all that ordered it. No complaints here! read more

A favorite Bar Harbor spot! It doesn't get much better than eating fresh seafood out on the patio overlooking the ocean. We'll often stop in for a bite after we book our whale watch (located in the same building). The shrimp po boy here is the best I've ever had. Tender shrimp on a soft bun with tasty coleslaw. The Lobster roll is absolute perfection...so much lobster meat (not too heavy on the mayonnaise, celery, other fillers, etc.) We always grab a blueberry ale as well. Can't wait to return! read more

Service was so so, not all that stellar. Oysters casino were amazing, maybe my favorite item of the meal. Grilled haddock had some kind of salty topping caked on. We had a really nice experience here for a beer and some "raw bar" action. For 25 bucks you could pick 5 different fresh items to enjoy cocktail style. The bar tender did a really nice job of preparing us up a nice sampler, and he even accommodated my wish to substitute shrimp for cherry stone clams. At the end, he even brought us over two cherry stone clams to try if we wanted to. All in all, we had two lobster claws, two crab claws, some jumbo shrimp cocktail, two oysters, and the two bonus cherry stone clams. Visited the Fish House Grill over the 4th of July holiday, and was impressed. The food was of delicious, the hostess and waiter was extremely polite and attentive. They made for a very pleasant experience. The food was delivered rather quickly and of course the seafood was from the dock to the plate. The portions we plentiful and cooked just right. The only negative thing we could really say is that there is not a military discount (even on the 4th) and the owner was rather rude to the waiter when he asked. After foolishly going past Ellsworth and onto Bar Harbor to see boats, we found ourselves in chockablock traffic looking for a parking place so we could eat anything anywhere. Found a really nice place with a flight of stairs up, only to find out there was a really long flight of stairs down to the restaurant. I didn't go. The wife went down and got a haddock sandwich to go which by the way was $18 for one bite of pickle, Some soft potato chips and four ounces of haddock on a hamburg roll. Ungh. Parking was congested but only two dollars. People were nice and friendly. Having gone up the stairs, there were some nice shops. We saw a nice yachts. They did prepare our take away very fast. I thought I had a portion was smaller than I expected it was very tasty. I did hit the pickle as well. Or fall to find a place to throw away The bun, the chips, and the dunnage, It was not entirely disagreeable to go there. Though I'll never do this again. I could have had two lobster rolls from market basket for the price and had changed back for me parking. But then I would've missed out on the lovely boats. read more

Went here on the foggiest night of the foggiest week in the month that should've been named 'Foggust'. Perhaps it was due to the fog obscuring the view from the outdoor on the water seating, or maybe people just wanted something a little more touristy, but we were one of only two groups at the Fish House that night. The food was pricey for what you got, which is to be expected in a place with the tourism of Bar Harbor. It was also PERFECT. Ocean mists and fog rolling in with a touch of Northern coastal chill was thwarted brilliantly by the piping hot Pan sautéed Mussels in a steaming broth that kicked off our meal. The Fish tacos followed suit, providing a fresh and flavorful compliment to the charming ocean fog that lingered around the pier our table was on.
