On our stop at Bar Harbor, 7 of us on Harleys were looking for a signature restaurant for some good "lobstah". We were told this was one of the best, but may be difficult to get a reservation. We were lucky enough to find seating outside by the water. Weather was perfect and our server, McNally, knew exactly how to handle hungry bikers----- especially old guys who think they're being funny. She took some nice group pics of us. We split into 2 tables. The one group stole our appetizers so we grabbed some of theirs. We started with the Buffalo Scallops. About 6-8 large sea scallops breaded and coated with buffalo sauce. Both the scallops and the sauce had very good distinctive flavors. Since the breading didn't really adhere to the scallops, you ended up with buffalo breading and also a nice scallop. For the main course, most of us ordered the dual lobster tails dinner. Each tail was around 4-6 oz, but was delicious. Not disappointed at all. We came, we saw and we ate! read more

We fantasize about this place year-round, and have to make at least two stops when we're on MDI. Solid, casual, stuff-your-face-with-fresh-seafood joint. If you're looking for white tablecloths, don't come here. But if you just want to sit at a picnic table outside, get busy eating crab claws, lobster and corn bread while drinking a HUGE local craft brew, this is your place. I wouldn't say they're the very top clam or lobster rolls in Bar Harbor - but that's only because there's stiff competition. In general we tend to order the raw or steamed shellfish over the fried stuff, but there's nothing wrong with them. Proper whole bellies (and french fries). Yum. You can't go wrong with the cracked crab, though - big, messy deliciousness. If you have "Tourist" tattooed on your forehead you must experience this restaurant. Small portions for the price, some of which had cooled down by the time it got to our table. My wife and I each had Lazy Man Lobster (someone else shelled basically) which was served in a chafing dish and drowned in butter substitute sauce. Great place to go after visiting Acadia for the day. I sat at the bar and received prompt service. The draft selection is excellent! While waiting for my food I watched as the bartender, waitstaff and kitchen staff executed their duties like a well oiled machine. The communication between staff members, and team work, during the pop they had as the sun was setting was flawless. The food was just what I hoped for, and surprisingly filled me up : The crab cakes we're delicious, and the sauce served with it had the perfect bite. The Fresh whole belly clams, perfectly golden fries, and refreshing Cole slaw is just what I needed as an end to a perfect day out! read more

My girlfriend and I came here for dinner one Sunday night when we were in Bar Harbor. The online menu looked good (in retrospect, we should have been wary of the broad range of their offerings), but the actual restaurant was not what we expected. It's located on the water, but directly under the place where you buy Whale Watching Tour tickets--uber cruise ship touristy. Someone had previously likened the Fish House Grill to Red Lobster, but I wouldn't give it that much credit. I'd sat it is more like a dimly lit Perkins or Eat N' Park. We were seated after a few minutes, though the place was rather empty, and ordered buffalo shrimp and a glass of wine while we looked through their massive menu. We were all set to order some surf-and-turf and lobster penne when the appetizer came. Shame on us for not figuring that buffalo shrimp would be fried (doesn't say it on the menu), but they also were soggy and minuscule. Thank goodness my wine was filled with pieces of broken cork and the glass was laden with lipstick--otherwise, we may have actually stayed for dinner! I told the waiter (think a very, very unhappy Louie Anderson) our qualms and that we were expecting something a little different for dinner. We left without having to pay and went to Cafe This Way, which totally made up for what a sham this place was (see our review!). read more

We stopped for lunch purely for the location ( I didn't even yelp it first!) because the weather was perfect and the tables out on the pier had a great view of the ferries and whale watch boats coming and going (the kids were rapt). They have lots of local beer on tap; order a flight of 4 if you can't decide. Fish tacos and shrimp po' boy were great and priced reasonably. Service was attentive but slow (read: don't plan on swinging through for a quick lunch before your puffin cruise because, hey, it's Bar Harbor in the summer people!) First off, from ordering Captain's Platter, all the fried seafood lacked a good crispy fry. The thick batter seemed to crumble all over and it made the food taste as if it was soggy when it really wasn't. We ordered the Maine Mussels as well and each mussel had the crunchy sand remains in them. I got onion rings along with my Fish Taco and it also had a weak fry. It was actually soggy inside and would break apart easily. I don't recommend coming here, even if you do get a view of the harbor. read more

8 of my friends and I stopped into this place for a pre Memorial Day dinner. All the outside seating is nice we were seated inside, and the interior is very outdated and dark. It was our server's first day on the job and he needed more training. Chowders and bisques were well received, but nothing to write home to mom about. The corn bread was below room temperature, but was tasty and soft. to people in our party ordered the mussels in wine and butter sauce, and the chef used sweet wine instead of dry wine, plus the muscles were sandy. Those were really bad and we sent them back, but the server was good and took those off the check. Another person in our party ordered a shrimp po boy sandwich and instead the server brought out a large platter of fried shrimp without bread and my friend ended up getting charged double what he was expecting to pay. Overall, this place is just making a killing on its location, but the food and service are not good. read more

Is it possible to get lobster that doesn't taste good? Probably, but not here. A different approach than the place next door: the lobster is presented without a lot of external flavorings, letting the sweet succulent lobster speak for itself. An excellent location, and very good service. read more

Tourist trap! The reviews seemed decent enough and we were hungry for great seafood. The grilled shrimp, fish tacos, and salmon were insanely salty. The kids ordered pizza and chicken fingers, typical kid menu items, but the pizza looked like the $1 pizzas out of the freezer and was burned, while the chicken fingers were also overcooked and also unappealing. I am giving it two stars for the cornbread and the lobster. The only two items we truly enjoyed. Oh, also, don't sit in the dank downstairs area- opt for outside. I don't like writing negative reviews, but I would hate for another family to waste their money and time here when there are plenty of other places to choose. read more

Why do I always seem to pick not so good places? This is the reason why I expect my wife to pick things. LOL. Came here for a late lunch before heading back to Acadia to watch the sun set. Service was slow, food was seriously lacking, and the vibe just didn't seem all that great. Kids mac n cheese - not fresh. It's basically kraft mac n cheese. The plus about this kids meal is that it came with a fruit by the foot and my kids really enjoyed that. But, they wanted to eat the candy before the meal. The snack should have came out after and not on the same plate. Bake pollack with crab - the rice pilaf was also not fresh. Tasted like it came from a box. The fish itself was just ok, but my wife did not like it at all. I felt the seasonings they used clashed with one another, but the fish itself was moist. Mussels - these were decent, but the "garlic" bread that came with it was seriously lacking the garlic part. It was literally just bread. Overall: I think there are better seafood options in Bar Harbor to check out, so I will not be coming back read more

The best part about this place is the view. You can't beat sitting on a deck overlooking the A+ views Bar Harbor has to offer. The downside? It's a tourist trap. Conveniently situated next to the ever popular whale-watching tourist boat, Fish House Grill attracts travelers of all types. Being one of the only places in town that has a raw bar, my husband and I were forced to join the over-sized camera and typical "Bah Habah" tee-wearing people for a meal. The hostess seemed like she was still undergoing training as she didn't know if we could sit on the deck and still enjoy the raw bar, nor did she actually know the table numbers without carrying her seating chart with her and referring to it often. Our waitress, however, was talkative yet attentive and took great care of us. Unfortunately, our libations and snacks didn't not. Almost every beer on the draught beer list was kicked which left my husband scrambling to find any (certainly not local) beer that had hops in it; The Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale (complete with real Maine blueberries) didn't disappoint me. We ordered a dozen local oysters (fresh caught from the harbor) and they were served with one small plastic cup ying-yanged with ketchup and horse radish for a "mix your own" style sauce. The plate contained two lemon slices and no mignionette sauce. Bummer. The oysters were okay, but not cleanly shucked. We left satisfied with the view and unfortunately not satiated. I'll stick to the lobstah pounds from here on out for my raw bar needs. read more

We had a great time at the Fish House Grill. When we arrived in Bar Harbor, it was a beautiful, sunny day, so we decided to take advantage of the weather and drink outside somewhere. This was one of the more busy-looking places so we asked the hostess if we could have a drink on the dock. She said we could, but if they got on a wait for the patio, we'd have to move inside. We're pretty easy going, so we agreed. Sitting on the dock was so nice - there's a cool breeze and a beautiful view. The waiter was pretty funny, he told us that the beer we ordered was crap, but they were out of it anyways - could he suggest the Real Ale? So we took him up on his offer and ordered 2 Real Ales. There is NOTHING better than a cold Real Ale on the dock, in the sun, on a beautiful day. We had 2 each before we got too hot and had to get moving. I'll always remember the day we were at Fish House Grill though! read more

The waitress did make sure our bill reflected the experience and for that I can appreciate their concern for the customer. I really enjoyed this place. It was right by the water so we had an excellent view and the raw bar was so fresh I felt like I was eating seafood right from the ocean! The lobster roll I had was awesome with huge chunks of lobster. Had their fresh made blueberry pie for dessert and it was BY FAR the best blueberry pie we had in all of Maine! Ok The only thing that saved this place from any less was the awesome fries, great waitress, and view. Came just for a Bloody Mary and it was the worst one of the whole trip- I gave it a 5 out of 10 (did a Bloody Mary tour of Bar Harbor on a whim with my friend on a lazy Saturday). It was spicy but tasted so watered down and the shrimp didnt taste too fresh. However the waitress was so great, on her A game and so nice. The view was nice but the deck was crowded together with tables and chairs. Price was ok. Overall nothing too special but the french fries were REALLY GOOD. Stopped for lunch here with the family and was pleasantly surprised. Had a table overlooking the charter boats, the service was excellent. The fried halibut sandwich was fantastic, a bargain with fries for $9! Also ordered crab cake sandwich- decent, fish and chips were very good but overpriced on a lunch menu at $17, order the sandwich and toss the bun and $8 away. First came here 3 years ago and loved it so much we had to come back again, twice this trip actually! My favorite is the Oyster Bar Combo. It's a little bit of all the seafood I love, crab, lobster, shrimp, oysters, and clams. Tried both the clam chowder and the lobster bisque, both were good but I felt the bisque to be superior to the chowder. My mom had the fried haddock which she loved and she is not much of a fish person. The Pirate Punch is quite yummy, it packs a punch for sure. The Islander special was just ok for me. It was multiple lobster claws with corn on the cob and parsley potatoes. Potatoes were very good but corn on the cob I don't typically enjoy because it's typically too mushy at restaurants and it was. Staff was super friendly. My daughter ordered a Shirley Temple to drink and our waitress on the first day brought her out extra cherries, it made her day. Love the view here out on the deck. You would think that with all the cruises and whale watching trips literally right beside this place, that it would be more busy, but we have never had to wait and easily scored a seat outside. I ate dinner at The Fish House Grill last evening. The fried clams I ordered were not fresh, likely frozen and deep fried in stale dark brown oil. The cesar salad I ordered consisted of limp, soggy romaine lettuce and slimy dressing and that's it. The quality of food is not in alignment with the description and cost on the menu. Rather, it is what one might find at at a beach snack bar, cooked by teenage seasonal employees. Our waitress was curt, bordering on rude. We overhead her telling the patrons at the next table, who ordered a pasta dish, " I wouldn't order that. I'd make a different selection. Our pasta dishes aren't that good." We stumbled upon this place for dinner as it seems all the other places around the area had a 30+ minutes wait. It was getting late, the kids were getting cranky after a long day, and we needed to eat and get back to our motel to sleep to prepare for a day of long drive ahead. The hostess(?) who greeted us was not very friendly, she just picked up the menu and led us to our table. The food was okay, it wasn't the best, but I have definitely tasted worse. The portion was decent for the price, I had the Caesar salad with crab cake (good, standard), my husband opted for the blackened haddock dish (haddock was seasoned quiet salty for our taste), the kids ordered from the kids menu, (sirloin-pretty tender, and grilled cheese-very very cheesy). Anything would have been better than that place, but we ended up really loving Fish House Grill! All the time we wasted at Stewman's we had already gotten drinks, ordered, and had hot delicious food on our tables at Fish House. Our waiter's name was Ryan and he was very friendly without seeming like a total fake douche. He was super quick about getting us drinks, asking if everything was ok, and getting our check. We tipped the shit out of him. We ordered the seasonal Pumpkin pale ale, the clam chowder in a bread bowl (amazing), the fried haddock sandwich (extra amazing), and cornbread (awesome). I got a blackand haddock sandwich and the other person got x one fried. Both were excellent and the waitress was very nice.
