On our food tour of places recommended by a family member lol. In the mood for fried fish. We got the combo which had fish, shrimp, fries and chicken wings The shrimp were good, the fish was ok, didn't taste like catfish as claimed by the restaurant. The fries were good but warm and the chicken had no flavor and the grease they were cooked in was old.

You know pretty solid. Really deserves 3 & half starts but can't go the full 4. The good: The customer service is great. The guy at the front counter behind all of the bullet proof glass is incredibly nice. The large portions definitely match up to the $$. Had the catfish and prawns combo. Food was fried very well, both the catfish and prawns were pretty tasty. Also loved how they throw a little bit of Cajun seasoning on the fries to give it a little umph. The bad: No seating at all, this is strictly takeout. The decour is a menu and bullet proof glass. Also, it took a while for the food to be made. Would definitely recommend calling ahead 15-20 minutes in advance.

Please don't waste your money. They put burnt meat hella season on a whole bowl of plain rice !!

The fish, oysters, and shrimp were really good. I would order the meat again. However, the sides were disappointing. They should remove the dirty rice from the menu because what I was given was yellow rice with a little hamburg meat on top. I was so confused when I first opened the container.

The fish was so overcooked it shrunk within it's own coating. Chewy and hard coating

This is going to be a difficult review, primarily because the dudes at this place is so nice. The service is phenomenal. But I don't come here for the social aspect. My partner and I's favorite fish spot is in Vallejo. Reason being is after 22 yrs of being in Oakland we still haven't found a stellar fish place. So today we decided to try something new...give Oakland another chance. This was the place we decided based on the reviews. The fried snapper was overcooked, old, frozen fish. So dry the fish itself dried up to a little strip within the overly crisp batter. It also carried that old fish smell. Like either they've been using the same oil for a minute or the fish is just been thawed for a min. They provide a side and a corn muffin with the meal. The muffin was dry and processed. I chose the greens as a side and they were o-k. Quite honestly the greens were the best part of the meal. I also come from a long line of Black soul food cooks so standards are high. It seems like this place is trying to cook soul food but it's missing the soul. Once again the guys at this place are super cool and just on that I've given 2 stars. The ambiance and experience you get once you visit this place is part of the appeal.

The food is good. When they first opened the guy who always took orders was super nice. He always talked to my daughter because we are regulars. He is no longer there. The service is not the best. The food always taste good but it is not consistent. Sometimes it is super spicy and other times is not seasoned as well. I really love their cocktail sauce. I do recommend this place for people wanting fish. read more

This place was nasty. The fries were soggy in both of our orders. The fish on the hoagie was hard asf. And the prawns on the other hoagie was soggy. I will never be frequenting this place again. $20 down the drain. NEVER again read more

This place is in the hood but the food is fresh, hot and good. I went there this weekend and I got jumbo prawns, my daughter got fried oysters and my brother got the fried chicken. Everything was good and my large order of jumbo prawns was enough to feed 2 adults. Also, each meal comes with a drink. read more

I had the catfish nuggets and they were okay although I wished they were a little bit more seasoned. This is your regular degular shmegular fish joint. I kept it simple. The service was good and i was helped quickly. This location takes debit cards and is right next to my favorite beauty supply. Its a nice change from all the fast food that lines international blvd. read more

Hit this place up on the way to reno. It was delicious. Had chicken and red snapper with a side of dirty rice.It was made to perfection. I think I paid 9.80. It included a drink and two pieces of bread. I tried my friends shrimp and it was money. Kind of hoodie but food too good to be scared. read more

I would have to say this is the best place for fish in Oakland. I use to think Holiday fish (84th n E14) was the best but not any more. The catfish is soooo good here, it doesn't have that nasty, bottom of the ocean taste like las palmas and the batter is perfect. The seafood here seems to be very fresh. The chicken is So-so but the fish, hoagies, shrimp, chicken tenders and sides are good. The shrimp hoagies are hella good with either fries or potato salad. You can get the large catfish and fries for 8.99 and that is enough to feed 2 normal people or 1 VERY hungry person. I've eaten the whole thing alone (because I was being greedy and it was good), and I've also shared with 2 other people and I was completely full. P.S. when u make a phone order its usually ready when they say. Very important to me because I come here for my lunch break sometimes and that's important when you are on a schedule. read more

Yes, the hype is true. The fried catfish and oysters are seasoned to perfection with just enough spicy heat to make things interesting. Light and fresh corn meal crust. Tender throughout.....yet still cooked. If you are dieting ( yeahhhh...right...lol) you can pass on the crystal and tarter...it's that good. I knew this was the spot when the young man taking my order asked "how would you like the oysters/fish cooked". I will be back for sure! read more

So....let me first say this. My BFF rants about his place often and his fools always looks great. Today I decided to go by and purchase the shrimp and fries along with the fillet sole and macaroni salad. Pros: The fries were great! Cons: The sole was over cooked and smelled fishy. Not that fish smell but that fishy smell like it was old and bad. The shrimp were undercooked and had no flavor The macaroni salad was yellow and was a taste like I've never tasted before Needless to say I spent 24 bucks and it was not even worth it. Ok first off if you are the faint of heart you probably don't want to venture to this part of Oakland. It's not located in the best area. With that said this is one of my favorite fish places. I love the catfish and the prawns are to die for. The fried chicken is great also, they season their food really good. My son loves their burritos, they are huge. read more

This food is excellent. The fish, shrimp, and oysters are cooked and seasoned perfectly. We called in a large order of fish only and the manager gave us a great deal. It is excellent. I ate there almost everyday while in Oakland from Atlanta..... So very good read more

This places gets really good reviews but I'd jus say it is ok. The fish seemed like it was decent quality, but the breading they use is very hard. It is to the point where you take a bite which tastes more of breading than fish, and you can see the hard casing around the fish. They give large portions for what you do order, and they do have many options besides fish so maybe those are better, but I wouldn't come back just for the fish sadly. read more

Didn't really like the fish it wasn't seasoned very well and was fried too hard.. However the Prawns are AMAZING!!! They are seasoned so well fried to perfection and their HUGE!!! The location is always packed and I'll advise you to call in your order otherwise you'll be spending half you day in there waiting for your order. The plaza that its located in is a little sketchy so make sure you lock your car but other than that it's satisfactory. read more

The chicken was old and awful yesterday. I've been calling them since yesterday evening, noone answers the phone. I got an eight piece mixed. I don't even know where to start. It was as if they battered and fried the chicken frozen. The skin was a mess. The texture wasn't like fried chicken skin...idk what went wrong. It wasn't worth the 25 minute wait nor the $14.16. we threw the flavorless chicken away. I come here accasionally from time to time when I'm in the area & I must say they never disappoint me because the food here is good, last time I was here I ordered some prawns, chicken & catfish with some fries & it hit the spot, the only thing I didn't like was I had to wait 25 minutes for my order lol but it was worth the wait but on the real I think next time I'm going to call my order in maybe it will be much faster. Fish King reminds me so much of Lorraine Fish & Poetry on Cutting Blvd. on the south side in my hometown Richmond California even though it's no longer there it's called the Boulevard now. But overall King Fish is a great place to go & get your grub on & you get your money's worth. read more

Food is good and everything was seasoned well and not over cooked. I want to give this place a try again but they need to work on their customer service. They catered more to other tables and we didn't even get offered the dessert menu like the other tables around us. Also, we had to ask for the check and no one even came to check if we were ready to pay we had to go up there.

When I approached the front counter, the lady present was very standoffish with me. I informed her of why I was there and she asked my name for the order. Upon giving her my name she then glared at me and literally asked me to recite my entire order lol! I showed her my online receipt in which she then insisted I still tell her my order. She brushed away my receipt and let another customer cut in front of me. Interestingly, the customer told her his name and she retrieved his order with no issue and was very friendly with him. To note, I was the only Black person present at that time. When I inquired as to why that customer wasn't asked to recite his entire order, she grinned and said that he's a "regular" and that I was "new." She went on to let a few other customers cut in front of me. I then asked for my money back in which she refused to return. Even when I asked for the manager, she said he was very busy. I made several requests for this resulting in her saying no and refusing to return my money. I then noted to her I'm calling the authorities in which I did. Furthermore, while servicing some of the other patrons, she would speak in another language with them while they looked at me and start laughing and staring me down. Eventually, the manager came out. He presented himself professionally and upon explaining what occurred he apologized and said it was unacceptable. He even offered me a drink with my meal and asked that I please accept the order instead and wanted to make things right. I took him at face value and said fine. While the situation was remedied, I definitely will not be returning to this restaurant. I researched some of the other reviews and came across several where other Black patrons have had similar racially motivated experiences here. That tells me there's a common practice of racism here. I refuse to support a business where this kind of behavior is tolerated. I have zero tolerance for bigots of any kind. Overall, the experience was a waste of my time and very dehumanizing. To hate someone you don't even know simply because of their skin pigmentation and ethnicity is irrational at best and bad for business especially in a place like Oakland where it's multicultural. My advice would be to not support this establishment. I especially advise any Black patrons not to come here as they clearly have issue with anyone who is simply Black, despite not knowing them as a person. Don't give your money, nor your valuable time, to hateful individuals who dehumanize others. All in all, this place gets a thumbs down.
