Amazing! an expensive hidden upscale hole in the wall off the beaten tracks in a harbor. I found this place from reading yelp reviews and felt that 4 stars out of 5 and over 900 reviews couldn't be wrong, and they weren't. My husband is English and loved the Fish and Chips except he felt the chips where the wrong shape and not soft enough as compared to true British and Irish fish and chips. The fish was battered in a beautiful beer batter and was light and crispy. I had the the Portuguese Red chowder which was good but I wish I had gotten the classic white chowder as red chowder doesn't really do it for me. The place was a bit pricey, I mean $23 for fish and chips is a bit steep. I also ordered the Glad Hand salad which had pt reyes blue cheese over a wedge of lettuce head along with sourdough croutons, great salad and no need to order the full size as I felt the half was huge! I have searched the world over for the best fish and chips...... well over much of the US and Ireland, and the UK anyway. Twice in row Fish wins. I have been recommending it to all of my friends. But this last weekend something went very wrong. There were 6 of us at the table. Three of us ordered the fish n chips after my bragging. They looked and smelled the same. But after biting into one of them the fish turned to mush. It was weird. Its like the fish had no texture. All three servings were the same. I should have complained but we would have had to wait longer to get more. None of us finished the fish. It was nearly inedible. Then to add insult to injury a sea gull did a strafing run at the table and was able to drop in all 6 plates. Let me start by saying I don't like seafood. So I was the odd man out on my recent trip here with my family and friends on our recent vacation to the SF area. The place is smallish with limited seating inside, but easily doubles their seating capacity with the outside seating included. I guess this place serves what they catch that day. They have dedicated fisherman working for them, and what they catch that morning is on the menu that afternoon. Can you say fresh? So the seafood is amazing (I guess). Our SF friends ordered raw oysters which seems to be a specialty at this place. I'll just say yuck and leave it at that. They also ordered some cornbread which was the best I'd ever had in my life. They have a limited selection of items for the non fish eater, which is fine. The place IS called Fish after all. The atmosphere isn't relaxing at all. I'd say it almost verges on chaotic. You order as you first walk in, and then (try to) find a seat. They bring the food to your table, but there's really no full service wait staff. The place was loud and boisterous the time we were there, which was mid-afternoon. I guess the line can run out the door and down the dock at prime times. If fresh seafood is what you crave, and your not looking for a "fancy" dining experience, this is your place. read more

Came here after a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge. Kind of hard to find if you are biking, but definitely worth the trip. Got the BBQ Oysters which I really enjoyed. Besides the fact that it's a tiny bit hidden, the trip was so well worth it. I knew the place was casual, but I didn't know it was really really casual. You order from the cashier, find a table (with your number), and they bring you your food. There's outdoor seating for a nice sunny day and indoor seating as well. I wish there were more tables, but that's okay. I like how the prices on the menu already included tax so you knew the exact price you were paying. If you like juicy and succulent, try their Fish Burger--it's amazing. With their beyond friendly service and mouth-watering sustainable fish, I will most definitely be coming back for more. They are so friendly that even the guy cooking way in the back waved to us and shouted, "Thank you and have a good night!" as we were leaving the place, ahah. First off, I have to address a comment that another Yelper made about the place, something about a place for beautiful people to see and be seen. Let me assure those of you who shun such joints to disregard that comment - it's just not true. Fish. is very unassuming. While the prices may say differently, the actual venue and the people who frequent it are not alarmingly beautiful and snobby. Now, on to the food. The food was quite tasty. The Boyfriend had the fish (halibut) and chips and I had the Fish of the Day (trout) with the organic greens. The halibut was so deliciously flaky and melting and the chips were real, honest-to-goodness potatoes. It wasn't terribly greasy either! The trout was also quite excellent - seasoned lightly with some herbs and lying atop a bed of organic greens, clementines, tomatoes, radishes and croutons. The prices are a bit steep (I think we shelled out around 58 dollars for our meals and a beer and a glass of wine) but when you're out for the day in beautiful Sausalito after a hard week of work, it's nice to treat yourself, don't you think? The restaurant is situated atop the water with yachts and boats for a view. There are a good number of outdoor seats and a few indoor seats. Don't be shy about asking a couple if you can share the large picnic tables - they probably won't mind (we didn't!). Came on Sat for dinner wtih the fam. Super crowded when we walked in, had to hit the ATM (realized walking in that it's cash only). Waited in line to order, friendly gal at the register. Ordered Salmon (on a roll), Crab Roll, kids pasta, carmelized cauliflower. SO worth the money for that $25 crab roll, seriously, OMG tasty to the 10th ! Cauli was incredible and did not disappoint. So I went with My Mom for a mother's day brunch and my niece and my cousin when we got there there was a long line. We waited about 30 minutes then after looking over the menu during that time I decided on what was on the board witch was a salmon plate with butter lettuce which actually was raw salmon which i don't mind eating because i eat sushi all the time but I'm not use to eating in a salad style anyhow my mom ordered fish and chips and my cousin got the burger. It was very crowded I got a lemonade and my mom got a wine we also had water. When we first went into the patio it was packed then we went inside and found one table then went outside and sat in the hot sun. The birds were all over the place eating bread crumbs off of the deck. The server came out with the ceviche for an appetizer also my dish . Then he came out with the fish and chips and the hamburger. Like I said for mine I thought mine was going to be cooked but I guess i should have just ordered the big dish because like even before i eat sushi i all the time but i didn't know it was going to be like this my stomach still feels a little queasy right now but that is because i normally do not eat stuff like that. The ceviche had oranges in it which i am not use to because normally i am use to lime in them but it was still good i asked the bus boy when he was wiping the tables if he knew what kind of fish it was and he said no my cousin said the hamburger was good the fish and chips were good very thick fries and the fish was light and fluffy they gave us tarter sauce with it but i didn't try it i finished my plate my mom finished hers there were a couple of fries and chips left over i think my cousin finished his burger. we probably would go back good food for a good price and great service the bus boy wiped our table right when we were done. read more

No. Just no. I feel really bad that I was the one that suggested we come here after seeing that the restaurant is 4 stars with over 1,000 reviews. I saw seafood and instantly assumed they would have Cioppino and oysters (I was "hangry" in traffic driving up from San Jose and was the closest seafood restaurant to us). First off. Cash only. WHYYYYY?! Everything here is $20 or more. The restaurant is set up like a deli---you order your food and sit down at whatever table is available. We ordered two cups of clam chowder, pasta with clams, a crab roll, and an albacore roll. Everything was bland except for the crab roll which was quite tasty but for $34?!?! My family and I were going to order oysters but they were $3 each so I said fuck the oysters... I can get fresh quality oysters at my favorite happy hour spot for $1 each. This place was suppose to be "$$" not "$$$$". One thing I can give them is that their seafood's fresh. That's it. I don't mind paying for food especially when my extended family makes time to get together, but this place is too expensive for no reason. read more

Our group of 6 ate here a few days ago around 2:00. My partner and I have eaten here before and had good food and customer service. Sadly we were disappointed with this experience for several reasons. I ordered halibut over pasta but they over salted my fish. Normally I would ask to be redone at a restaurant but chose not to while eating with 4 visitors from another country. It's awkward for everyone to be eating and one person is waiting for food. When I ordered at front counter I asked if refills were allowed on the Arnold Palmer and she said Yes. When I came in for a refill I was told No by another person. One of our guests ordered Cole slaw with her sandwich. She was served shoestring fries. When she told the waiter about the mistake he didn't apologize or seem to care. We thought he was going to bring slaw out. After 15" I went in and inquired. I was shocked how I wasn't believed by the guy. This left a terrible taste in my mouth. I know the food is fresh and sustainable but I can pay this amount at another restaurant with much better service and care for the customer. Food is good and the service is great too! Fresh fish, nice folks that work there, and the view is wonderful! Nice wine is available along with bubbles and Oysters are yummy too!! I usually pay cash there but cannot remember if that is a requirement or just their preference and i accommodate as i appreciate the smaller business not having to pay the credit card fee for service. Fish. is. awesome. Yes, they should take credit cards. It's bizarre that they don't, right? Well, maybe. Or maybe by not having credit cards they doing something smart: forcing their audience, Marinite (read: monied, entitled), possibly touristy, to give up their ideas of how things should be done and try something a new way. Yes, it's not a cheap eat. But their products are exquisite, and exquisite products cost money. In their defense, unlike many places that charge high prices for seafood, Fish doesn't overlook details or skimp on the extras. Everything that comes out of that kitchen seems well-conceived and well-executed. Their fries are good, their bread and rolls are from ACME, I've even been delighted by their mixed greens (mixed greens, for God's sake). The jam jars for wine, the picnic benches, the blackboard, the open line, the neighboring bait shop and view of the water and Chevron boat gas station, even their industrial-feeling, hard-to-find location--it's all brilliant. The menu offerings themselves are outrageous, perfect, divine. Lord in Heaven, if you are saying bad things about this joint and you HAVEN'T HAD A CRAB ROLL you are out of your gourd. read more

This place is great. The fish is amazing and very simply prepared. They make EVERYTHING in house and it takes like it. I had the ceviche (small was actually large) which was one of the best I have had. It has large chunks of white fish and salmon as well as oranges. This is the best place to eat in Sausalito and it isn't a little off the beaten path so its not heavily touristed like the rest of sausalito. If you love fish, eat here! We are from back East and saw this place on Food channel and had to try it. Loved loved it! Had the crab roll, fish and chips, bisque, iced tea and the pressed coffee...all awesome! Only downside was the organic slaw which had a lime cilanrto taste and I found it confusing..like it should have been at a Mexican restaurant. It tasted great...just out of place. Great location - right off the pier with scenic views of the bay. Parking available. Very trendy-rustic vibe. Wait in the long line to order with the cashier and then select your table. Indoor seating and picnic tables outdoor available. Cash only. The prices are steep Steep STEEP!!! Prices on the menu include taxes (and maybe dine-in service). Self-serve station with water, silverware and to-go boxes are set-up across from the cashier. Crab roll was amazing! But for $25...it better be!! Nice crunchy buttery roll packed with slightly flavored crab. Fresh!! Fish and chips was ok. $24 nah. The 3 pieces of fish were fresh but the batter was so thick that it became soggy within a few minutes. The side of fries that came with both dishes were a let down - shoestring fries and potato wedges. The fries were bland and more chewy than crispy. Potato wedges were ok but it was too salty. The $9 clam chowder was a bit watered down and had more potatoes than seafood. Might come back if nothing else look appealing in Sausalito. Id recommend this place but be ready to throw down $70+ for lunch for two with drinks and tips included. Service was great despite limited interaction. One hostess walked around to pass out menus to those waiting in line and to refill water/tea glasses. Restrooms are located outside near the porta-potties on your left. Drove all the way here from SF right before they closed but it was worth it. The obliging and friendly people at Fish serve some of the best I've ever had. We got the specials so you know they are fresh. The halibut mild and flakey and the salmon belly was fresh as f. I even ate the skin on the salmon. I don't usually like fish skin but it was very crispy and clung to the fish so I went for it and was glad I did! The salad was also delicious. When it comes to entrees, their portion sizes are generous, so even though their prices seem high for a walk up place it is totally worth it for the quality and the amount of food you get. Acme bread only, good beers on tap, and fantastic oysters too. One star docked because although the pasta was good, a good choice if you are hungry or want left overs, it had too much oil on it for my tastes. I would get it again if I was super hungry though, so it can't have bothered me that much! read more

Came for a quick bite on the way into SF. I was craving some chowder and oysters and this place popped up on yelp with some good reviews. When I arrived there was a line but it was to be expected so I was patient. Looking at the menu there were many yummy choices to be had but prices were a bit steep to me. Everything on the menu sounded good and looking at what others had looked good too. So I had a cup of chowder the one of each of the fresh shucked oysters. The chowder was ok I tend to like mine on the creamier side...there were lots of graded onion or something in it that made a very strong onion flavor. The oysters were good hey we're fresh and tasted like the ocean...like they should. The one downside was when they were brought to my table they didn't identify what clans were which kind. It's always nice to know in case you find one you like a lot. Atmosphere was nice along the dock area makes you really wanna eat seafood. But I may comeback again and try something else on the menu if I'm in the area. read more
