Visited this unique establishment on a Thursday night. The setup is all you can eat based on different meat options. I wanted to try the ribs, so I paid $19 for all you can eat fish, ribs, and chicken. The buffet includes whole red potatoes and onions, home made Cole slaw, and bread. Coffee, tea, and water are also included. Also one piece of apple cake. Don't try to cheat them, they are watching you :) The restaurant is housed in a rehabbed old manor, charming, and vintage decor. There is an indoor dining parlor and lots of outdoor seating. There is also a bar with a wide selection of beers and drinks. The friendly staff man the bar and serve you a full plate of food. They also buss the tables and run around. When you are ready you come up for another plate and they serve you what you want. The money makers are the fish and ribs. The salt boiled cod is boiled fresh over heaping open fires and the ribs are grilled. The fish has a flavor that evokes lobster, I think because of the drawn butter. The flaky, firm texture is very satisfying with some pepper and lemon. It's not too salt either, just right. The ribs have a nice char, easy tenderness and a sweet, mild sauce. Some people might want more seasoning. The chicken legs had a nice smoke to it as well. Their house made slaw is a less creamy version of what people probably are used to. Apple cake is on the sweet side for me, but was a nice closer. I would definitely bring some friends back here in warmer times, eat outside and relax until they close. Great place! read more

Fitzgerald's is a cool experience. It feels like you're going to grandma's house. When I was young I went to a fish boil in Door County and was not impressed. I vowed to never eat boiled fish again. I was so excited to visit Fitzgerald's due to a friends recommendation and it was definitely worthwhile. It is located in a residential area about 10 minutes from Lake Geneva and is in an old antiquey (and run down) home. The food is cooked in the backyard on a grill and over wood burning pots and is served inside buffet-style with a server. I was told that the boiled fish was "just like lobster" but I have to disagree. It tasted like overcooked boiled fish. Quite bland, but enjoyable when eaten with the melted butter, boiled potatoes and onion all together. They also have honey bbq roasted chicken which was flavorful, cooked well, and delicious sauce. And ribs, which had a nice bbq sauce as well, though many pieces tasted a bit too well done and chewy. On the side you can get coleslaw and brown bread with a salted crust. And a piece of apple strudel for dessert. It is a fun experience and the food was pretty good, though it definitely will not be a place I visit regularly. I stopped here on a lark when I was taking the scenic route from O'Hare back to Madison. I had heard about it, so when it popped up as a suggestion nearby on the Yelp app, I figured I would stop in. It turns out my timing was perfect. I was able to take advantage of the all-you-can-eat chicken, fish, and ribs dinner. For about 20 bucks, I was able to gorge myself on some wholesome if not particularly remarkable food. The chicken was very good, the fish was a bit mediocre, and the ribs were delicious but a bit challenging to eat. What I really enjoyed were the new potatoes and onions. I am normally not big on rye bread, but the dark rye bread was delicious. The only reason I didn't give five stars was that I had to wait a bit to actually get some ribs (none were currently available when I arrived), and the drink service was fairly slow. It would be difficult to add additional praise that hasn't been already given by other reviewers other than to say again how enjoyable it is interacting with the obviously well trained staff at Fitzgerald's. Reminder- cash is king, no credit cards accepted! I particularly appreciate that they use boneless and skinless North Atlantic cod unlike some places that use whitefish (which is usually bony). Here's a tip for those interested in trying the Fish Boil but not wanting to deal with crowds; December is their slowest month and if you show up a little after the dinner hour (say around 7 PM) you will likely have a great and relaxing experience with plenty of "elbow room". :) Another reviewer mentioned the wallet-friendly drink prices- the bar also has a menu of wonderful specialty martinis... $6. This was our first time here and we loved it! It's a cool old house and we enjoyed its charm. Some things we didn't find on their website that might be helpful to know is they say they're open year round rain or shine. Also, they only take cash but they do have an ATM there. They offer 1, 2, or 3 proteins (all come with the sides and dessert and coffee). We tried the 3 proteins for $21.50 per person. It's all you can eat but 1 plate with all 3 proteins was more than enough. We read the reviews before going and we are team "loved" the food. The cod was boiled to firm which some may find a little dry but with the drawn butter it was so good! They say it's like poor man's lobster. To me it actually tasted better than lobster since I hate that bitter aftertaste that lobster can sometimes have. The chicken was juicy, the ribs fell off the bone, and the bbq sauce was so delicious. The potatoes were boiled perfectly just add butter and salt to taste and the onions were sweet and tender but still had a little crunch left in them, and I'm not even a big onion person. The bread was soft and fresh and the coleslaw was creamy and cold. The dessert was not too sweet and more soft like a cobbler but still had that iconic icing of a frosted apple square. Sodas were only $1. Not sure about cocktail prices but they had a nice selection. Seems pretty popular and they don't take reservations but the hostess worked hard to seat everyone without breaking a sweat. There's a parking lot and plenty of extra street parking. They could use a little updating, but at the same time, it does remind me of having dinner at grandmas, even all the little nick knacks all over you can buy, most of which I swear my grandma had. When we walked in we were a little confused on what to do, so here is the lowdown for those who would like to know ahead of time what to expect.... When you walk in, go to the cashier and pay for your meals, you will then get the tickets for your meals. Then they will seat you. At that point we sat there for a few minutes before someone came over to us. (I think they should do that right away and explain how it works, but that didn't happen. We just kind of watched how others did it... hence the 4 stars!) Once you are seated you can get up at your leisure to get coffee/water/tea, as well as your meal (at that point you will give your ticket to the servers at the "buffet station".) If you need drinks from the bar, a server will come around and take your order for that. Otherwise, you are kind of on your own. Hope this helps for the newbies... We chose to come to this one even though it's farther from home because it appeared to less rickety. It was less rickety. And it was much tastier. The boil truly does have the sweetness of lobster here. You really need the butter, lemon salt and pepper to make this delectable. The Cole slaw is good. The bread isn't dry. Coffee tea included. The apple dessert is tasty. The people are friendly and it's very affordable. It's $15 for the fish plate. It's cash only. They have an ATM onsite. I expected cod fish boiled in water with onions and potatoes, BBQ chicken and ribs and so that's what we got. These are the things that made me want to try this place. I wanted my kids to try something else as well so we drove to Genoa City, WI. The place looks like an old, freshly painted house. It is located in a residential area, in the middle of a quiet town with not a lot(or none at all) of establishments around. They do not accept reservations so it is a good idea to get there as soon as it opens(5pm) because there was already a line at exactly 5pm when the doors opened. They charge $12, for AYCE fish...$14 for AYCE fish & chicken ...$18 for AYCE fish, chicken & ribs. They only accept cash although there is an ATM machine right behind the lady at the cash register. There is a dining area at the ground floor as well as the second floor. Both floors have a buffet table set up. On warmer weather, they have a fairly big open yard space for dining as well. Customers basically line up at the buffet table and once you give your ticket stub to the server, he/she will put good portion of fish(you have a choice to put melted butter on it), and pieces of chicken and rib(one of each), sides of potato, onion, and coleslaw. The fish is very satisfying, like what I've said, this is different for me because I usually eat fish cooked and seasoned differently, but the fish boil was very filling. The ribs had the crunch on the slightly charred ends and the chicken BBQ had great flavor as well. For dessert, they have the Apple Pie squares with sugar frosting on top, it tasted like Pop Tarts. Drinks are very cheap. For one bottle of beer, a glass of red wine, and a glass of soda.. Total of $11.50. Score! Service is efficient and friendly. The place is decorated like an old house with pretty wallpapers and floral curtains. The house has a warm, homey feeling about it and the diners are all happy eating away. We looked for a spot half way for both of our parties and found this place. WOW, I loved it. This isn't 5 star dining in a conventional way but it's my kind of place. First of all it's an old Victorian house. So if you're looking for someplace that looks like Applebee's don't stop here. It's not a super refined place but it's kept up and it's clean. Everyone of the staff members was really nice and genuinely happy to help. The menu is simple fish boil, barbecue chicken, and barbecue ribs with coleslaw and bread.
