Been going to this Five Guys for a while. What made me write a review was how kind one of their employees were. Long story short, I asked for a side of regular sized fries, and noticed that the cashier rung me of for a size little. When my order was ready, I told the girl who called my number up my situation. Offered that I can pay the remaining balance to upgrade to a regular size. She let an employee named Jesús know and he told me not to worry, and he'll just make me an extra side of fries to take home, on the house. Not only does it give their customer service a good name, but I appreciate kindness like this at all businesses. read more

Last Friday night Five Guys Burgers and Fries beat In N Out by a long shot. Meaning we got our food in under fifteen minutes. I'm sorry, but the one on Venice is a bit "slow" especially if you walk in. As you can see from my previous review it's been a while since I've been to Five Guys but I'm glad we went. As soon as we walked in the workers pretty much gave us hook up or vip service if you want to call it that. The young black sista working the cashier looked tired and overworked but she remained kind and gracious as she took our order. The fry cooks were doing their jobs quite well but what stood out the most to me (hey, I'm observant) is the African American young brotha working the back of the kitchen area. He really hooked us up with more than a few french fries for waiting so patiently and I thought that was a nice gesture. Heck, they all did a great job! It's still a bit overpriced but there is the price of overhead and whatever else it takes to run a business. Of course, I'm no expert. Just saying. I really liked 5 guys from living in DC. I had high hopes coming back to CA. Burgers are juicy and fast. Fries are thicker, kinda like steak fries. You can get regular or cajun spice. In-n-Out burgers and fries are still better. However, if you want a different experience, come here. They let you customize your burger how you like it with free toppings. Yes, thats right FREE. On the East Coast, when you order the fries, you get the large fries, you get the cup and about half a bag extra. Here, they just give you the cup. I chalk that up to a West Coast thing, healthy eating, blah blah blah. So, they messed up my sister in law's burger - they put mustard on it when she didn't ask for it. They told her to keep the burger, made her a new burger and brought it out to us in 2 minutes. The best part? They refunded her the money for the burger and fries! Sure, its not a big deal or a lot of money, but this is good customer service! The manager definitely understands that a happy customer is one that will come back and tell others of their experience. Probably the best customer service I've had in a long time - and it was at a fast food burger joint. So, if you're trying to decide between In-n-Out and 5 guys. 5 guys will cost you a little more, but rest assured, the burgers are juicy, and you can customize it how you like. read more

I would hate to own a hamburger restaurant in California's very loyal In & Out country. It would seem like an impossible task to match this style hamburger at the price In & Out offers. Five Guys proves my assumption correct! Five Guys is certainly as clean as any In & Out I've been to and that's sort of where the comparison ends. From the very confusing menu; Large means gargantuan and small means large, and the more than twenty add-ons makes ordering a burger a real challenge. With so many add-ons (the works as they call it) the hamburger tends to get mushy and fall apart in your hands. Not a good thing. The fries are very good. I give it that. The loud 60's / 70's rock n' roll sound track playing is not deafening but certainly more than background music. All of this and the $20.00 price for two burgers and two fries (no drink) makes me wish I had chosen the much quieter, more consistent In & Out up the street at 1/2 the price. read more

Tip: In-n-out is WAY better. This Five Guys is conveniently located in the Culver City Westfield mall, which is super close to where I work. No parking necessary for me, but it's a mall, so you're bound to find somewhere to park. I decided to come here to see what the hype was all about and finally pick a side between the "In-n-out and Five Guys" battle. For those of you who aren't aware, the little burger is a normal-sized burger with a single patty. The regular burgers have 2 patties. It's cool that you get to customize your own burger and pick your own toppings, but none of the toppings or sauces are anything special. The sauces are just normal BBQ sauce, A1 sauce and hot sauce, which is super disappointing because the sauce is what makes the burger unique. I ordered the Little Bacon Cheeseburger. I was VERY disappointed by the grilled onions, which were grilled enough - In-n-out's grilled onions are infinitely times better. The BBQ sauce also tasted kind of strange with the burger; I think the A1 sauce would have complemented better. Overall, the burger isn't bad, but it's something that I can make at home and costs $6.50, which can get me a cheeseburger and fries at In-n-out. I'm definitely sticking to In-n-Out. read more

Most people like to try to compare 5 Guys to In-N-Out. There really is not in the same league. In-N-Out is for people that are trying to eat on a budget. 5 Guys is for those that like good food with options. You will leave this place full. Can't say the same for In-N-Out. The regular (2 patty) may be too much for most. I prefer to get the Little (1 patty) bacon cheese burger, "All the way" but sub jalapenos for the mushrooms. If you go with at least one other person it is best to split the regular Cajun fries. Not only do they fill the cup but then they throw an extra large scoop of fries into your bag. You can eat free peanuts until your order is ready. 2 people can get a sandwich, a drink each and split the fries for about $8-9 bucks a piece. I guess $2-3 more than In-N-Out is too much for some. "Way to go Five Guys .. way to bury my Small Hamburger under a mountain of Cajun Fries .. =)" .. was my first thought after I realized that they had not forgotten to give me my burger but had indeed buried it deep within my brown, grease-covered bag. They gave me so many Cajun fries that I was able to fill one of their regular cups twice and still have some leftover! These I bought home for dinner along with a carton of free peanuts! Pros: - Friendly and personable service - the kitchen does a lot of shouting and keeps the place upbeat. - Free peanuts - paired with the vinegar = delicious free appetizer - Clean and cozy sitting area - I sat outside the mall but the inside is very nice and has a retro-feeling (similar to the ever-compared-to In-N-Out) - Portions - Do not underestimate a Small, I'd say it's more Regular sized, I got too many fries and had to eat it back home. - Call-in orders - I work close by so this will be handy when I need to do a fast pickup! Cons: - Burger was average - Maybe because I got "The Works" the burger itself wasn't amazing. I would definitely scale down on the toppings next time .. - Pricey - FG's does not have typical fast food prices (aka dirt cheap) so be prepared to shell out a bit more than your usually Dollar Menu lunch or dinner. read more

I just had it for the first time, dreamed about it that night and was craving it the next day. Hence, the 5-star rating. To further gauge my rating, I would give In-n-Out a 5/5, Shake Shack a 5/5, and Umami Burger 3/5. With that said, now on to the meat of the review. =) I came to this place only knowing that's it's pretty good. I didn't look at the menu beforehand. If it's your first time, I suggest looking at the menu so you know what toppings to add. The amount of toppings are a bit overwhelming. BACON, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, jalapenos, green peppers, A1 Steak Sauce, BBQ Sauce, and Hot Sauce. The toppings are no extra charge. Came here to order a bacon cheese dog with grilled onions and fries and a drink. Had way too many people on staff apparently to stand around and do nothing since the order took forever and the place was virtually empty. Oh the tables were all filthy. Not sure why people rave about the fries, they seem like they are always fried in old oil using subpar quality potatoes and they give less and less of them every time I come. When I finally got around to my bacon cheese dog they forgot the cheese. I don't know if it's just this particular set of workers at this store or if it's the chain in general but it seems like morons are running it. Should I give it another try..? My burger was made rather quickly as I glanced over the glass separating my hunger from the cook. My fries on the other hand took an easy 15 minutes from the time the order was taken.. Either way this might've been a lazy point in the day (7:44pm Sunday night) for the staff but for our first experience totally made me appreciate In & Out that much more. Had I never been to inNout this place may have stood a chance. Over priced and not all that good. The burger was passable. Meat was cooked fine but that cheese looks extra processed with a neon yellow look to it. But still that's appearance. The taste itself was pretty bland and not very special at all. The other bad thing is the price. For the equivalent of a number 1 at innout (double double meal) you pay 11 dollars. That's bull. Now the good. Burgers is fairly good size and the fact that you can do toppings. Awesome. The toppings are free. Holy moly extra awesome! Fries you think cost a lot but then when you see they give you the equivalent of an entire sack of potatoes of fries - I mean a cup and then half the To go bag is filled - you really can't hate. Not too stoked that it looks EXACTLY like innout but, everyone there was happy to be working there and full of energy. It also wasnt packed. Let me start by stating that I am not a "shill" for In N Out as one reviewer suggests of Five Guys detractors. My Five Guys burger experience was just ho hum. The words that come to mind when I recall that taste are "adequate" and "regular"--perhaps not the most helpful descriptors. I got the cajun fries, and they were also a let down. Too much paprika? Not sure, but I felt icky after eating them and had to hunt down the tooth brush I keep in my desk at work. Cost-wise it's more than I like to spend on fast food, but the portions were plentiful... and I got the little burger. Honestly, I think the In N Out comparisons are totally unwarranted. They're on completely different planes. An In N Out Burger is a In N Out Burger and any modification to it is still just a variation on a theme. Five Guys Burgers are just very regular joints with a not very exciting (albeit wide) range of toppings. Taste wise I think it's a lot more like Fatburger. But also not as good. read more

The famous Five Guys burger joint I've been hearing about! After a day in LA, I spotted Five Guys in the Fox Hills Mall and thought I'd give it a try. Since everyone raves about how much of a better burger place this is compared to In N Out, I'd have to see for myself. Now, I haven't eaten at Five Guys enough to think this place is better than In n Out. However, I will say that it has more of a selection. I went for the Little Cheeseburger and a side of regular Cajun Fries. I don't go crazy for burger ingredients so I just went with lettuce, jalapeno peppers, and onions. The little cheeseburger is well not little. I found it completely filling and tasty. For all the adventurous people, you can put hot sauce, A-1 sauce, green peppers, relish, and loads of other stuff. CAJUN FRIES?!...I'm sold. Next to curly fries, cajun fries makes it second on my best fries list. Here, the fries just tasted so good and fresh. Portion-wise, there was more than enough. I was even thinking about getting the large size because fries are the first thing to go when I eat fast food, but I held off. To my delight, the cup of fries was overflowing with super seasoned cajun fries...oh the excitement! I will advise that it can get overwhelming, they are entirely coated with their cajun seasoning and you can definitely taste the flavor. Beware! It is reasonably prized because the portions are more than enough. For vegetarian kids out there, they do have a Veggie Sandwich and a Cheese Veggie Sandwich. I'm a fan of vegetarian food so I was impressed. I'd definitely come back here again. For all the In N Out comparisons, it hasn't changed my love for In N Out. Now to be clear- I love 5 guys. I have been to many restaurants around the western states but this location is poorly maintained. The quality of this location (THIS LOCATION ONLY) was not up to the same high quality all other 5 guys has. The fries were soggy, burgers were burnt, bacon was burnt, and lettuce was beyond expiration. I have been here twice and same issues both times, which is why I decided to review. The restaurant itself was dirty both times I was there and trashes were over flowing. They follow the same philosophy of In-N-Out, they don't have freezers, their fries are cut fresh, and the farm the potatoes come from is usually written on the wall just to prove it. Their large selection of toppings include the "all the way" which includes, mayo, relish, onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms. With additional toppings like bacon, cheese, ketchup, mustard, jalapeno pepper, green peppers, A.1.® Steak Sauce, bar-b-q sauce and hot sauce, they claim there is 250,000 ways to order a burger. A bit overwhelming if you like your burger choices more similar to I-N-O. Burgers come standard with double patties, but you can order a "little" burger which features just one patty. The burger patties, are imperfect circles, smashed on the grill. Their fries are some of the best fast food fries you'll find. That is, if you like the skin on variety. Plus, you can also get them Cajun style for a little extra kick. Before this month, the closest Five Guys was located in Carson. But they now have a location in Culver City at the Fox Hills... I mean... at the Westfield Culver City Mall. The walls are filled with articles on how great they are, just to reinforce how everyone feels about them. For me, I prefer the classic taste of In-N-Out. I find that my friends, who prefer Five Guys, didn't grow up in So Cal. But regardless, their burgers are juicy, flavorful, and more than filling. Finally, what could best be described as the East Coasts answer to In-N Out is arriving on the West Coast. While I hate comparing the two (Five Guys doesn't have drive thru's, In-N-Out doesn't offer a wide selection of toppings, hot dogs or Cajun fries), if I had to pick between the two - I choose Five Guys - and here's why: - I don't know what kind of American Cheese they put on these burgers, but it's ridiculously good - I like that I can put fresh jalepenos and grilled onions on the burger (they also have bacon, grilled mushrooms, green peppers, A-1 Sauce, etc that you can add) - The patty is hand formed, well-seasoned, high quality meat - Cajun fries - 'nuff said When I lived in South Florida for a year, this was my go-to burger joint when I wanted something quick, easy and good. Be sure to note the following though: - A single order of fries is enough for two people. They fill a cup, and add an extra scoop of fries to the bag. I had to see what all the buzz was about. The burger was OK, but nothing super special as I was expecting. The cashiers who took the orders were really nice and patient explaining how the menu works. I like that they give you a lot of choices of toppings. I ordered a cheeseburger with mushrooms, grilled onions, lettuce and tomatoes. My husband got the veggie sandwich, which he liked. I also got the cajun fries which in my opinion were too salty. I could feel my blood pressure rising-just kidding about the blood pressure as I don't have that problem yet, but they are pretty salty. The bun becomes a little soggy before finishing the burger. They also offer hot dogs too which I don't really eat and didn't try. The free roasted peanuts are a plus and the place is really clean. Parking can be a little rough if you're not going to the mall and just want to run in, order take out and leave. I was excited to try Five Guys for the first time after hearing a lot of hype, but I don't think we will be going back. The food was decent I had a cheeseburger. It was big and tasty. I appreciated the choice of various toppings and sauces and that everything was fresh. I also had fries, which I really liked. They were thick-cut and well-done which is just how I like them. If I ever do venture back, it would be for the fries. The main reason for my negative review is the restaurant's lack of cleanliness. We came in around 9pm and they close at 10pm and every table in the place was a mess of peanut shells and condiments. It was pretty disgusting. Also the trash can was completely overflowing. And I can't say they were that busy. There were like 6 or 7 employees working, so I think someone could have been cleaning up. The free peanuts are kinda fun but they do create a huge mess, so I'm not sure it's worth it. I expect this from like a dodger game or the ground round, but I didnt expect to wade through a sea of peanut shells in a burger joint. Parking is also a hassle since the mall is always crowded. The AC was cranked up to an uncomfortable level. I also wish they had milkshakes, or some kind of dessert, because when I'm eating bad, I like to eat very bad. We felt like this place is not a threat to In N Out and will probably keep going to In N Out when we're in the mood for burgers. read more

Ok, in my opinion, this place is nothing special and definitely nothing like In-N-Out, for several reasons: 1. The food is mediocre. I ordered a double cheese burger (expecting something like a Double Double) fries and a coke. The burger tasted like it was from Wendy's and I don't like Wendy's. The fries were disgusting, they were super greasy, thick and under cooked. I think they were so greasy because the cook kept several baskets of uncooked fries over the hot oil and then when ready dropped them. By that time they were soaked in oil. 2. The service is par with any typical fast food joint. Can barely hear the person when they take your order and when you get your food, it's "there you go", not a "Thank you, have a nice day". In-N-Out always and consistently seems to hire higher quality people who are polite and make you feel welcome. That's why they get paid more. While I was there the manager (I assume) was yelling at one of the employees for coming back from break or lunch late. 3. The food is more expensive, my order was $12.00. I'll drive the extra distance next time to In-N-Out. 4. Not a convenient location for the local guy who wants to run in on his lunch break, eat and get out. 5. Presentation of food is the worst of any burger place I've ever gone to. Brown bags, burgers wrapped in plain aluminum foil and fries in a plain cup....where's the presentation? 6. Place was filthy. I looked at about 10 tables before I could find one that I could sit at and not worry about getting my clothes dirty. 7 With all this said, the place was dead, no line, but 7 employees pretending to look busy, and it was 1 pm. 8. You get to pick your toppings, but they don't have 1000 Island dressing??? Huh? This is a burger place? For me, this is not a place I will revisit. I just wanna shout-out to the Manager at Five Guys, thanks for making my day! I stopped by there for lunch on my way home from a long flight (LAX) and a tiring day. The manager had a huge smile on his face and asked me how I was doing and I told him I was dragging from my long trip. I ordered just a burger and water. He gave me (for free) a full size drink "wake yourself up with some good old Amercan Cola" and a free sample fry, AND he even brought me ketchup! I didn't catch his name, but he was so thoughtful and kind and happy, and the meal was delicious. So thanks, so much!!! read more

Five Guys is the best burger EVER -- hands down. Yes, I'm biased. I'm from Northern Virginia/DC and have grown up with them. They produce the tastiest burger ever--no grainy meat (only fresh, not frozen), complemented by fries cooked in peanut oil (and you always know where the potatoes come from). The bread is perfect--used to be a local bakery providing the buns, but probably not so now that the chain is national. And the split grilled kosher hot dog is awesome, too. I always get the "Little Burger" -- actually a standard one-patty burger. If you order a regular burger you're getting two patties, so girls, be mindful of that. West Coasters just don't get Five Guys, and it's a shame. But they will slowly come to learn the truth as I spread Five Guys good will throughout Cali! To be continued. read more

I love how you can put any toppings you want on your burger. I always get jalapeños A1 sauce and everything else. The free peanuts are also addicting. But the sodium on those babies are just overwhelming. It's like eating salt, nonetheless, I still eat them. Their Cajun fries are amazing and the best fries I've had for awhile. Everyone compares it to in and out and I would say that Five Guys is In and Out's more expensive yet customizable brother. Other than that In and Out is still the go to place for burgers. read more

I heard a lot about Five Guys and needed to try it when I heard there was one in Culver City. As far as the food goes, it's pretty great. I got the junior burger (which is a decent sized burger on its own) with bacon and cheese. As far as fast food burgers goes, this is definitely one of the best. They have a lot of good toppings to choose from, the bacon was crisp, and it has a grilled taste to it (as opposed to most of the fried-type burgers you find in LA). They need a normal sized fries because I got the smallest they had and it was way too much (and I have a pretty big appetite). The only reason I give it four stars is because of the parking situation here. I tried for about five minutes to find a spot in the cluster f lot right out in front to no avail. There were signs pointing to more parking on the other side of the mall so I followed them. It lead to a one story garage, which was also pretty full. I had to park about as far from Five Guys as is possible, while still on the malls parking lot. After walking through basically the entire parking lot, I finally entered the mall, where I was able to stop inside four the necessary nourishment to finish my odyssey. Then I had to walk through most of the mall to actually get to Five Guys. If I didn't fear the hassle of this (I spent WAY more time walking than driving, and I don't live that close), I'd probably come here all the time. read more

I only had the fries, but was really impressed by the quality, freshness, and portion! I ordered a regular to share with my boyfriend (expecting a small portion to snack on) and instead received a bag half-full of peanut oil-fried goodness! : ) I was offered sauces when picking up the fries. Their bbq sauce is tangy and really yummy. We also tried the hot sauce--it tasted like Red Rooster (mmmm). Definitely coming back to try their veggie sandwich when I have time to stop by--the closest one is in Carson or El Segundo for me! Their food is fresh, delicious, and in my opinion the best 'fast food' burger around (yes, I like them much better than In-N-Out). My girlfriend was at the Fox Hills Mall and called and asked if I wanted to give Five Guys the taste challenge. Of course I said yes. I have heard quite a few things from Co-workers and word of mouth so it was definitely worth a shot. Showed up and found parking right away. Parking is hit or miss with this establishment being located at the Mall. Walked in and immediately noticed that Five Guys looks like In-N-Out with the Red/White tiling everywhere. My girlfriend brought to my attention that once we were inside the place did not smell like a burger place at all and it didn't. The service is much slower than In-N-Out. We had a mother & son in front of us in line, one register open on a Sunday afternoon & it took forever for the cashier to figure out their order. I am used to the In-N-Out ordering system with meals being placed together, at Five Guys there is none of that, everything is ordered separately, which takes a toll when it comes time to pay, dinner for two $23+ My girlfriend and I both ordered the double meat with fries and a drink. The burger was just OK. The fries were very good. I walked up to the counter and asked for a side of mustard that I had to wait for and ask for again. I would give the burger a 6.0 - 6.5 The fries a 9.0, I did dig how they tell you what ranch the potatoes came from, for what reason I don't know, but it was kind of cool. I would have to say In-N-Out beats Five Guys by a large margin. After In-N-Out it would be The Habit and then maybe Five Guys. Five guys is FIVE GUYS, you never go wrong, it's and East cost thing more popular over their, so I go in for the old times grabbed one cheeseburger with the small fries for the old time, but I couldn't stop I had to go for the second cheeseburger. Price wise its double in and out, paid almost 30 for 2 dbl cheeseburger and small fries which is not small! but you feel the ingredients you can tell it's way more healthier.
