Personally, I'm mixed on this place. Like almost everything in the Bay Area, a good hamburger place are a dime a dozen in this place and I feel you can get a better burger for cheaper at some of the local mom and pop burger joynts. However, where FIVE GUYS tends to stand above the rest is the fact they give you a TON of free toppings where other places would charge you for them. The burgers themselves are quite tasty, and you have to give this place a SUPER high-five for using only fresh organic ingredients. But, FIVE GUYS has a serious problem with salt! They simply use too much of it! Not on the burgers, but on the fries! Our fries were so salty that we almost had to throw them away because our taste buds were going numb! Also, another issue you need to be aware of is that people who have allergies to peanuts SHOULD NOT COME HERE. This particular Five Guys was littered with used peanut shells on the table and the floors. A potential death trap to anyone who has never been to a FIVE GUYS before. In addition, no one in my group could figured out why this particular Five Guys in Hayward felt the need to keep the temperature in the restaurant at a constant 62 degrees when it was about 50 degrees outside. Five Guys is a solid spot for a burger with more toppings than you could shake a stick at. The meat taste fresh and while the patties are fairly thin, they're reminiscent of a homemade burger your Grandma would wipp up... I'm not a fan of the crumbled bacon they use. Can i get a full strip? The fries are solid and possibly the best when compared to similar establishments. The place has decent service. Nothing is presented on an Eat In tray; it's all bagged as To Go. I think that should be changed. The lobby floor stays dirty and the trash cans full. They really need to work on the esthetic nature, but surely it's difficult when you have people throwing peanut casings about. Overall it's worth trying and you'll leave satisfied. read more

CAUTION: Not only did they give me super dry over cooked burgers, but the screwed my order to go. I wouldn't be as upset if it was just for me and my son. But because i needed a diet restricted burger for my father that I requested just a hamburger.. meaning no cheese, because cheese can make him more sick because of his health condition. I notice my lettuce wrapped cheeseburger was missing cheese... I run to my dad's room and viola, it's in his sandwich that he started eating. Had to stop him. I will give you 3 stars just because the food still good as always but not your customer service, prices and the store is too dirty. Me and my wife came in to the store for lunch today Sunday around 2 pm and there were only one table with 2 customers and all the floors were totally dirty with food left overs, paper bags, napkins, etc. No even one employee was there when we open the door so we decided to go to the restrooms when we come out from there stills no one in to make our order no even the cookers so have to wait, when finally someone came from the back he tell us " some one will be with you in one second " after five minutes somebody came to us take the order and we didn't receive an apology for the waiting. We decided to eat there because we had more shopping to do later so I have to clean the table with some napkins which a I have to ask for because the dispenser was empty. So we stay there eating and chatting for about 45 minutes and no one came to the front to clean up and when I decide to take some pictures one of the guys saw me and send out a lady with a broom and a towel. I've been to a lot of Five Guys establishments. I got to say, this one is one of the best. Today I may have had one of the best burgers of life. Keep in mind, I have had some gourmet Kobe beef burgers. But this one today was pretty damn good. Before I bit into it, I took a good look at it and it was put together perfectly. HAnds down my favorite fast food burger. I heard something about the fat content being higher but damn is it good. They also have more toppings offered here than any other fast food place and you could also add some add'l ones for an extra I've only been to FG 2x once in Fremont and Dublin and they have both messed up my orders so I guess be aware. I ate there so no prob, but if I would have left having a hamburger in my bag rather than a cheeseburger would have been dissappointing and would have changed this rating. I have tried Five guys on more then one occasion, never been disappointed. However I do think the place is a bit over hyped and a bit expensive. Their Cajun fries are really addictive and a must order. Their main attraction is their burgers and quite frankly their burgers are better than any fast food joint out there, they really stomp in n out. You have a broad range of toppings to choose from and their beef patties are freshly made. Their burgers and Cajun fries are a MUST TRY. Tips: I find that actually ordering and eating the food their is better then taking it home, it gets soggy. Especially the Cajun fries they taste so much better when they're straight out of the frier. Also the burgers taste better when they are hot even though they wrap the burgers in foil. Also be cautious when ordering fries, they're portions are generous. Pros: Best selection of toppings for burgers, amazing fries, excellent and efficient food preparation, good service especially the use of complimentary peanuts while you wait. I only got grossed out because I finished a regular sized cheeseburger which were two patties, going fwd. I will order the little cheeseburger. We walked in to a self served box of free peanuts. At first I wasn't sure if it were free or not so I just put a handful of them into the front pocket of my hoodie. Can you go to jail for stealing free stuff? Menu is super simple, basically 4 burgers; hamburger, hamburger w/ bacon, cheese, cheese w/ bacon in either a regular two patty or little one patty. I like their abundant choices of free toppings. I went with the semi-basic; ketchup, mayo, onions, mushrooms, and jalapenos. They serve hotdogs and sandwiches and two style of fries. I stuck with the regular and were simply okay. It reminds me of a beefier In-N-Out burger, it's fresh indeed. I thought I had read on one of the newspaper wall reviews in the restaurant about it being "juicy" but I thought mine was a little over cooked and on the drier side. I'm thinking they do some kind of lean beef/and chopped sirloin blend because later in the day, a piece of that beef fat finally got loose from in between my teeth for a surprised late afternoon snack. The establishment is clean, no graffiti in the bathrooms yet, parking is in abundance and it was pretty much a full house when we were there around 1.30pm and the burger seekers kept on coming through the doors. The real reason I love this is place is because their french fries are so delish! They have skins on and come perfectly crisped. The burgers on the other hand while they are pretty tasty are overpriced but you do get an array of toppings to choose from (all incusive). The ambiance is loud, crowded and kind of boring. Would I rate a Five Guys burger compared to a high end hamburger from someplace like Luca's Tap Room in Oakland? No. But, in the context of fast food fare, Five Guys does a great job of delivering a good product sans fillers and preservatives that is loaded with toppings at no extra cost. I mean what fast food restaurant includes grilled mushrooms as a standard ingredient? Their burgers are juicy and meaty and have a natural beefy flavor. A regular size has two patties and by the time you add on the toppings you can barely wrap your mouth around it. Fries are what you'd expect from fresh cut preservative free potatoes. I enjoyed them and they had a good potato flavor. They do seem to get soggy quickly, but they were still pretty good. I'd choose them over In n' Out and certainly over the BK, MD, and the other fast food restaurants. read more

Finally tried this place out! I had the bacon cheeseburgers + fries (both types). Burger was huge, but pricey, much more than In&Out. Fries are almost like steak style, but still tasty. Had the absolute worst experience tonight. We walked in and the cashier tells us they were out of cheese and bacon. My family and I were hungry so we ended up getting hamburgers rather than cheeseburgers. There were only 3 parties ahead of us, so we didn't expect to wait long. The workers were in the back talking amongst themselves. Thirty minutes later, they call number 81, followed by 82 and 83. Nobody picked up those orders at all. We were number 95. We finally got our order and we were so disappointed. We all got grilled onions, but got regular onions. We ordered BBQ sauce, but there wasn't any on our burgers. Was looking forward to this place opening. It did not (does not) disappoint. The regular burger is a hefty size, good quality beef and lots of cheese. I love the choice toppings and that you don't have to put them on yourself from a toppings bar, and plenty of toppings to choose from. I like that they're wrapped in a foil wrapper rather than just paper or worse yet, unwrapped. Service was fast and friendly. The cajun fries are outstanding, and the generous portions are what they are known for in the extra "scoop" of fries they put on top of the already full order. You can ask for the cajun spice on the side if you prefer to season them yourself. They do a good job at serving larger numbers of hungry diners, fast and with quality food. I'm not a burger fan, I prefer a whole entree meal and I don't find a meat between buns healthy enough nor fulfilling. There are pros and cons. Even though I am not a burger person, the burger was pretty huge for it's size based on other burger joints. The burger was not overdone. I enjoyed the mushrooms and onions in my burger. It added the flavor. The price was pretty expensive for a burger meal. Even the drink was sort of expensive for just a soda, the plus side is that there are free refills... I probably won't be back unless one of my friends wants Five Guys. This is only because I'm not a huge burger fan nor do I want to spend ideally that amount for the meal. Definitely a great place to get a burger, and they allow for plenty of customization so that you walk out with the burger of your dreams. I haven't had the opportunity to try their hotdogs (but my boyfriend seems to enjoy them), although I think the grilled cheese is a bit overpriced for what you get. And fries!! No need to ever order the large because you get a decent bagful with an order of regular. If that doesn't seal the deal for people, there are also boxes filled with raw peanuts in the shells for people to munch on while they wait. No restrictions to how much you can take, although try to resist taking off with a box by yourself. read more
