I'd say more like 2.5 stars but I rounded down because it didn't even come close to the hype. Decent burger but something that really bugs me: bun overhang. Just please make the burger the same size as the bun, is that too much to ask? This place is often put in the same category as In-N-Out and Habit but that's being very generous; I'd say it's more in line with Wendy's and that's not necessarily an insult because I think Wendy's makes a pretty damn good burger. The thing is Wendy's is better and half the price. True, you can't get green peppers and A-1 on your Wendy's burger but maybe that's a good thing. Okin and Out Fans Five Guys is not at there level they are a Gourmet burger joint. You pay a lot more for your meals but they are great burgers they are HUGE!!! If i have the regular double burger and small fry for lunch I will not need to eat dinner I am full all day and night. Have been to this place many times over the years because it is convenient for a quick bite before seeing a movie across the street. I must be a slow learner because I finally realized I HATE their hamburgers. The problem is that they wrap every order to go--even if you are eating at the store. Soooooo, the burger gets wrapped up tight in foil, which makes the buns soggy. Halfway through the meal the buns are squishing through my fingers and everything else is falling out. What a mess! If they want to compete, they need to offer a plated dine-in serving that doesn't include the darn foil. It would also help to use better buns that last the whole meal. Holy Baloney!!! The Five Guys make a badass cheeseburger! I ordered one yesterday for the first time and that is most definitely the best burger I've eaten at a restaurant in the last couple of years. While it doesn't have the refinement of the Counter, where one can customize your burger exactly, the cheeseburger I tasted from this place was just plain awesome. Their Fries were awesome too! Wow. What a great place if you want to spend 40 minutes for a burger and fries when there is no one else in the place. There were no additional people here who had a order other than my pal. For some reason they held his burger (he paid by himself) until he asked for it. My burger was cold by the time I got it and I didn't get my fries until I was about to leave. Not sure what's going on but I'm cool off this place. I could've bought some patties from Safeway and returned home, walk my dog and play a game of madden and it would've been quicker than this place. This place has nothing on In n Out? I don't know about that... I love me some In n Out but the double burger with everything plus jalapenos is pretty darn good. The fries are better here especially when you soak them in vinegar. They taste just like I got them off the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland! I just wish they wouldn't squish the burgers so much. i've heard of this place long before it reached california. based on a recommendation from a message forum, i wanted to give it a try the next time i visited orlando. then not long ago, i hear that they are opening up locations nearby... including one here in dublin. some people went as far as to call this the "east coast version of in-n-out"... a statement that i highly resent. let me start off by telling you my assessment of in-n-out. in-n-out is like the perfect fast food place to me. while the burgers aren't the most flavorful (i give that title to carl's jr), they are still very good. but in the end, it's indeed the most solid fast food restaurant out there. while i wouldn't say it's "healthy", it IS the healthiest fast food chain spot out there. it's also the freshest, and highest quality fast food chain out there. it's one of the only restaurants that got any praise in the book "fast food nation". none of these qualities are present in five guys burgers and fries, which is the reason why i resent the hell out of that "east coast in-n-out" title. as a matter of fact, there is no such thing as an "east coast in-n-out" as far as i know. but enough ranting, and on to the food.... imo, the best combination of food items you can go with here is the little bacon cheeseburger and cajun fries. the burger itself is tasty, but there's a big downside: the cheese is not melted. to me, that small detail takes away from it's true potential... which in the end keeps me from giving this spot a rating of 4 stars. the cajun fries are tasty, and they serve it to you in large quantities, which is a big plus. in the end, this place is worth eating at... but PLEASE stop calling it the "east coast in-n-out" for gods sake. read more

I was in Pleasant Hill to find some computer Accessories, so decided to check near the movie theater for a place to eat. A friend and I saw "Five Guys" as we were driving through, so we thought - why not? The entire place is done in red and white, looks very clean, and you can fill up on salted peanuts while you are standing in line. (Just like the Texas Roadhouse). The prices were pretty good, we both had the small burger and the small fry. Well, you certainly get enough...I ate fries for 5 minutes before I uncovered the container they were in, so I could get my burger. The fries have the skins on them, so they taste very earthy, like a good potato should. Been a long time since I found delicious french fries. I thought my burger needed more condiments, but it was still tasty. I will definitely go back, next time I'm in the area. Oh, the staff was very friendly and courteous as well. Nice lunch! read more

They managed to completely screw up a simple order- what was supposed to be 2 fries and a 2 cheeseburgers, one with everything but mushrooms, came out as 1 fries and a burger with mushrooms and no ketchup or mustard. YUM! This place hit the spot. We'd been wanting to try this place out and finally had our chance. After a 1000meter swim, we were starving and looking for a place to feed us, and we came here. All 3 of us ordered a cheeseburger, ( I ordered the little one) with everything on it, minus the grilled mushrooms. The wait was pleasantly short! We also ordered a large regular fry and a large cajun fry. The burgers were delish!!! We couldn't eat them fast enough. The large order of fries were waay too much. We all were a little eh with the fries. The cajun seasoning was too much, and overall they were a little soggy and bleh. That is the only reason I give 4 stars. I do love the fact that there are peanuts for you to munch on while you wait for your food. I will definitely come back! read more

I so want to give 5 Guys 4 or 5 stars. The meat is tasty but not that nearly-sirloin flavor like Roam in Lafayette. But what really upsets me is that their grilled onions are not, or at least don't marginally taste like truly "grilled onions," & it's not a matter of taste or preference. They're little pieces of onion, not grilled strings or what should be greasy, hot off the grill delicious onions, cooked to order. They just don't look or taste grilled. Rather they seem like they're from a pile or a container of pre-heated onions that I assume we're originally cooked on the grill? But definitely No Grilled Onion Flavor! And their sautéed or grilled mushrooms cannot be freshly sliced mushrooms sautéed or grilled then & there. Rather they look, feel & taste like they are from a jar or can, with that pre-selected 'sitting in water' grayish brown look, not to mention a rubbery taste & feel. Sorry, but for what they charge & list on their menu board, I Want Real Fresh Sliced & Grilled or Sautéed Onions & Mushrooms. Not ersatz ones that taste & look pre-made. Check out the Cheese Steak Shop for what I'm talking about! And please lay on a thick slice of cheese. My single burger looked & tasted like it had just a thin layer of American on it. Not impressed by this Five Guys location. The cheese wasn't even melted on the burger... Who makes a cheeseburger with cold cheese? The flavor was bland and it tasted like a backyard BBQ where you throw frozen patties on the grill and just sort of forget about them. The fries were okay, could be crispier and were way over salted. Great location in Downtown Pleasant Hill and the service is quick and friendly. I love the fact that you can add a lot of different veggies (jalapenos, for one) to your burger and make it custom. First time at 5 Guys. The burger was okay, the fries leave a little to be desired. I would guess for an East Coast chain - it would be okay. Got the little hamburger (no Swiss Cheese - only American Cheese), grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms, bbq sauce, Kosher Dog with ketchup. Kim got the little cheeseburger, grilled onions, mayo, lettuce, pickles, ketchiup. The fries were not cooked all the way through - even though I asked for extra well done. For $20 - we would rather eat at Carmen's. Better burger, way better fries and onion rings. It was okay - not bad - not great. We won't be in a hurry to go back. It is NOT like In N Out. read more
