The one star is for customer service and the restaurant being a disaster. The guy taking our order didn't great us and when we we done ordering all we got was "here's your recipe". Went there after a day on trails. Sad to say doesn't live up to 5 guys standards. I lived in VA and it was great there, the patties were large , the amount of fries was incredible and the service with out fault. Not so at Rancho Cuccamonga 5 guys. The cashier got our order wrong after 3 times of explaining it(nice guy) just didn't get it. The patties were like McDonald's $1 patties the fries didn't come in the usual amount, the sweet tea wasn't sweet and one of our double cheeseburgers didn't have the second patty. Ok this is about the 10th time we had five guys and I wanted to just give them a big shout out. Your burgers are AMAZING! Let me just say I usually smother my burgers with ranch, ketchup, bbq sauce or whatever condiment sounds good. This burger NEEDS NONE! We get out bacon cheeseburger with mayo, lettuce, pickles, grilled onions, grilled jalapeños, & bbq sauce (which btw it's not dredged in it). While I've enjoyed their hamburgers for years, on my last visit, the price of the Little Hamburger increased by 20%!! I thought they were on the pricey side before the increase. Finally had the chance to try it for lunch today. The burger was pretty good, I can say that it rivals In-N-Out's burgers. The patty was juicy and you had a lot of choices for topping. Free peanuts too, they were decent. Not really the type of place you would go to if you want good peanuts. The fries were okay but they easily get soggy once they start to cool down. The size of both burger and fries was very generous. The only reason why I am giving it four stars is the price, their price is more than average. I tried Five Guys in Orange County several years ago and thought they were A-OK. I loved all of the options they offered for your burger, the fries were good, and the complimentary peanuts were a nice touch. I still thought In-N-Out was better, but I felt that was probably the West Coast bias in me. When Five Guys opened in Rancho Cucamonga, I wanted to confirm my belief that In-N-Out was superior. I've eaten at this location a few times and while the service and food are consistently good, to me, it's not even close: In-N-Out is still the best. What's interesting to me is that because In-N-Out offers less, they make a better burger. According to the Five Guys website, there are over 250,000 possible ways to order one of their burgers. While that might appeal to some people, I'd rather just have a perfect burger delivered to me every time, rather than trying to figure out the magical combination of toppings that will satisfy my cravings. Still, the Five Guys burger is good, if a tad overpriced. Everybody I've taken to Five Guys likes it, so I can't complain. But everybody also knows that In-N-Out still rules the West Coast Burgerdom. read more

Five Guys hasn't changed my life. I don't remember where I had my first Five Guys burger or how it tasted like. Instead of a party, there's a cool get-together of familiar friends who simply want to catch up over good conversations in my mouth. 95% of the people that eat here will talk about In-N-Out. Whether they like it better than In-N-Out or they don't, or think it's the same in quality and taste, the fact that people bring it up, is a testament to In-N-Out's stranglehold on the hamburger purists' collective tastebuds. This is West Side Story; this is The Jets vs. The Sharks. Only in this story, we replace the over zealous singing and dance numbers with greasy beef, and The Jets and The Sharks with In & Out Burgers and Five Guys Burgers and Fries. I was told that Five Guys is In & Out-esque and that they are expanding along the west coast and has made its proclamation in In & Out turf. Let the rivalry begin... The first similarity I noticed was that there was a long line that was noticeable from a 200 yard distance. There is not a drive thru at this location, so a line of hunger pain ridden people spilled outside of the restaurant and onto the walkway. There was going to be a wait. Once inside the structure, I noticed a resemblance of appearance to In & Out. The white counters with red squares that gave the place a 50s diner's vibe. There are free peanuts to be had while you wait in line. If I were an elephant, I would have been ecstatic. The menu is fairly simple and you'll have more than enough time to decide on which way you'll clog your arteries. I ordered the Cheeseburger with everything on it (the Five Guys lingo for this is ALL THE WAY) with Regular Fries and a Regular Drink. I was partially taken back that this cost me $11. To my surprise (albeit a pleasant one) the Five Guys "Cheeseburger" is actually a double cheeseburger. Its apparent to me that their "Little Cheeseburger" is a one patty cheeseburger. America truly is fat. The burger was absolutely delicious. You might need a fork because with all the toppings I had on my cheeseburger (mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup and mustard) it can become quite a mess. I felt like a toddler eating spaghetti, dropping noodles on my high chair table and getting pasta sauce all over my sippy cup. The toppings make the burger feel like a gourmet burger, but the appearance of the burger...well it brings you down to earth and reminds you that its just fast food. The fries were your standard, non-impressive fresh skin cut fries. They do have something called Cajun Style and Five Guys Style which I was unsure of and didn't get. Once again I'm not sure of the lingo there so I just had salt on my fries. The portions were incredibly large, as I couldn't finish all my fries. Trust me when I say that this never happens. I felt satisfied with my $11 spent and would definitely go back to a Five Guys and maybe order their Little Cheeseburger instead. Is Five Guys better than In & Out? I like the many options Five Guys has to offer. They also have BBQ sauce, A-1 sauce, relish, hot sauce; there's just so many different varieties of toppings you can ask for that makes Five Guys stand tall. Also, they have hot dogs and sandwiches. A newer Rancho burger joint. Apparently they are quite popular east of the Mississippi. The line was long but it gave me time to navigate the menu. The gal behind the register was very nice and politely and patiently answered all 2 of my questions. They proudly advertise that they use peanut oil and they stockpile fresh peanuts on the premises which you can snack on while you wait. If you suffer from a peanut allergy, do not come here. All the food is prepared fresh to order. I was told that they don't even own a freezer so the beef or fries are never frozen. The menu is very straight forward; burger, cheeseburger, hot dog, grilled cheese, veggie sandwich, fries (5 guys or cajun) and the fountain beverage station. Additionally, AT NO EXTRA CHARGE, you can add any or all of a variety of vegetables and condiments. The regular burger is 2 patties. They have a "little" burger choice of 1 patty that is more than satisfying. I ordered the little cheeseburger with mushrooms and onions. I shared regular sized cajun fries with 2 other people and it was more than enough. The place was crowded and I was order #98, they had just called #87, so my companions and I chose to sit outside and I could hear them calling out order #'s. After about 10 minues of chatting I realized that I had not heard an order called for quite some time so I wandered inside to check the status of order #98. It was ready. I don't really know for how long. The burgers and fries were hot, and they tasted mighty good. The burger was cooked well done, which is my preference for burgers and it had a nice charred edge. The cajun fries were nicely seasoned and not too spicy. My only caveat....do not let the fries get cold. Cold fries are bad in any restaurant. I just returned to my office from there and my coworkers and I can smell the frying oil that has permeated my clothes. What the hell? I'm not sure where to begin with how disappointed we were with this place. I've heard nothing but good things about Five Guys, but they were so terrible in every aspect of our experience that I was holding my head in my hands and wondering what in the world so many other people think is so great about this place. Especially in the "Home Land" of In-N-Out Burger. If you wish to continue, I'll try and keep this as brief as possible. I'll begin with list's of what we liked and disliked; then I'll give further explanation to those list's. Please keep in mind that were Five (no pun intended) people in our group. Me (40 year old Male), Wife (36), Niece (15), Son #1 (4) and Son #2 (2). I tell you so you can see where our perspective is coming from and what we all discussed after we left. Here are the list's: Liked: The Soda Fountain Disliked: Seating Food Choices and Food in General Service Ambiance Lack of Cleanliness So here we go... The Soda Fountain. This was truly the only thing any of us enjoyed. It was a Touchscreen Coke Fountain. The choices were endless and it was fun to explore all the possibilities. Basically you have a Soda Fountain with a single tap all controlled by a 12 inch touchscreen. You pick and choose everything from plain Coke to Cherry-Vanilla-Mr. Pibb to 6 different flavors of Fanta. We all had a ton of fun trying all the different flavors of soda. Seating: An overcrowded room with table's and chairs stuffed everywhere; No Booth's at all. A very large (and unnecessary) display of Peanut Oil and Bags of Potatoes in the middle of the dining area (taking up way too much space). The chairs are metal chairs made to look like wood that don't slide on the floor to save your life. If you can pick yourself up with the chair to slide under the table you're out of luck. The floor is large gray stone tile. Very course and very dirty because there is no way anything, but a pressure washer and shell brush could ever get it clean. Yes it looked nice (very trendy), but very bad idea for a commercial food establishment. Food Choices and Food: The food was bland. There is no other way to say it. I had the large Bacon Burger and it was simply Blah. Plus it cost $6; yes you heard me right...$6. Absolutely not worth it by any counts. The Food choices are just plain stupid. The have a overrated list of options that is simply ridiculous. If you have to add everything, plus the kitchen sink, to make a good burger, then you're just trying way too hard. Service: A bunch of kids who just don't care. Granted, I have not problem with that other than the fact that with so many options to choose from for how your food gets done, someone other than a 16 year old kid who could care less about his job is needed. It cost us $40 for our meal which consisted of 3 adults and 2 kids. For that kind of money, and the service required to get your order right, they need to switch from a Counter Ordering type of business to waiters. I can't get so much better of a meal for over half the price at EZ Take Out than what we got here. Ambiance: WAY TOO LOUD! They had the sound system turned up so loud that it was all we could do to try and communicate with the person taking our order, or each other. My guess is this is why they didn't get our order right. This is a large open dining area with a great deal of glass windows and stone floors. It echoes beyond belief and with the sound system up so loud it was absolutely ridiculous. I don't know if this is normal for Five Guys, but if it is it's just plain crazy. Don't get me wrong, I love to play my music loud, just not when I'm at the dinner table trying to talk to my family. Last, but certainly not least, Lack of Cleanliness: The bathrooms were horrid!. It looked like they hadn't been attended all day. No paper-towells, no soap, no TP. And this was the same bathroom the employees us. (I think I might throw-up again). I had to yell (in order to be heard over the loud music) to tell the employees that the bathroom needed attention. 20 minutes later the bathroom was still in shambles...they just couldn't care less. So, to sum up our experience...BAD! My suggestion to those who care...STAY AWAY! We have In-N-Out (thank you Jesus)! read more

Welcome to Rancho Five Guys! This is a great new addition to the city! Another burger joint you say, not Five Guys. This was our first experience with Five Guys and we thouroughly enjoyed our experience! We went this past Sunday after church, and weren't sure if we would be facing a line out the door after reading other reviews here, but luckily the line went just right to the inside of the door, with probably 10 people/couples ahead of us. All of the staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful. The cashier greeted us, and was quick in taking our order. My wife and I both went with Bacon Cheeseburgers and we got a large order of Cajun Fries to share. Nearly the entire dining room was full, we managed to snag one of two tables that were available inside. I think we got there just in time though, because after we sat down to wait for our order, we saw the line grow until there were at least 10 or 12 people outside in addition to the line up to the door. We only waited in line 5 minutes max, and we probably waited 10 minutes for our food, which I think was reasonable considering the amount of people. Lately the In N Out drive through has been running a solid 20 minutes at least, even when we go at off hours. The food was delicious! The burgers were seasoned well, the bacon was nice and crisp and the cheese was nice and oozy. They have a ton of toppings to choose from, but I went pretty standard, lettuce, tomato, fresh and grilled onions, and mayo. My wife went for All the Way, which includes lettuce, tomato, mayo, grilled onions, pickle, ketchup, mustard, and grilled mushrooms, and she added jalapeno. They did a great job with managing these crazy orders by numbering the burgers on the receipt and then numbering the burger wrappers before bagging them. This makes the process so much faster than other places that circle what each burger has, or writes what it's missing in marker on each wrapper, and makes for happier customers who don't have to unwrap every burger in a big order to figure out which one is theirs. This seems like such a simple thing that is a huge face palm when you realize how obvious it is, and I can't think of any other burger joint who does it this effeciently. The burgers taste more home made, even than In N Out I thought. The patties are hand formed on site, and I think that it came through in the taste and consistency of the product. The fries were very good. They are sort of a cross between shoestrings and steak fries in the cut, and they are still a little floppy, not overly crispy, so they more resemble steak fries in the texture. The seasoning, while being full of salt so you know it's horrible for you, really made the fries that extra bit delicious, we really enjoyed them. In terms of comparing them overall to In N Out though, it's still like apples and oranges. I would say that Five Guys is going into the rotation of burgers, but that it will get as even play as In N Out. In N Out has the sponge-bread buns that have just the right amount of crisp on them, and five guys is more of a dense bread bun, they're just different, no one is better than the other. Now onto the negative, which obviously wasn't negative enough to warrant the loss of a star: The prices are more than In N Out, about 30-50% more for the burger and probably the same for fries, but in the grand scheme of things and what you get, it is definately worth it. Having bacon on my burger is really one of the things I've wished for years that In N Out did, so that's a big plus for me, and worth the burgers being a little more for them having so many options on the toppings. For toppings, my wife's jalapenos weren't the pickled "nacho" style jalapenos, they were the freeze dried kind liks some of the sushi restaurants used, and she said that they didn't taste very good. The dining room was pretty crowded with all the tables taken, plus people waiting. They really should take out a table or two and not try to cram them so close together. Also, do we really have to store 50# bags of potatos in the dining room? We get it, you're proud of your fresh potatos, you have a sign that you write where today's potatos come from, down to the farm that they were grown on, but you don't have any other place to store them? You could leave like 2 or 3 bags somewhere that the customers can see, but they have at least 50 sq ft devoted to stacks of potato bags, that in an already crowded dining room, doesn't help! In all, this is a great addition to Rancho, we're happy to have you, and the food was delicious, the service was friendly, and we'll be coming back, next time I will try out the online ordering! read more

This place is awesome. Automatically a fan of them giving free paenuts when you walk in (so does that mean you can't eat here if you are allergic to peanuts, sorry rich white people). The burgers are good, better than average of most places and have a lot of toppings to choose from. The fries are incredible. I love the Cajun fries covered in ketchup. Also if you order online they will not make your fries until you get there. Only knock would be they should have 5 statues for each of the five guys read more

I would probably give this place about 2.5 stars.. but since I like their fries.. I'm gonna have to bump it up to 3.. I hear a lot about Five Guys v In n Out.. so when I learned that this place opened up.. I had to try it.. Their menu is sorta decieving. They dont' tell you that their regular burgers come with two patties.. regret #1.. I should have gotten their smaller sized burgers.. it was too much greasy meat and sat at the bottom of my stomach the rest of the night.. I got the sandwhich with their grilled onions, mushrooms, ketchup.. etc.. It wasn't too bad.. but not too flavorful.. the meat wasn't seasoned.. nor did it have that beefy taste that some burgers have.. like at Smashburger, or In n Out.. their meat tastes good to me.. The fries.. gotta love the fries though.. They were like sticks of mashed potatoes.. I gotta say that I liked their fries better than In n Outs.. In n Outs fries are too skinny and not potato-y enough for me.. Regret #2 was that we ordered one large size.. and that was waaaay too much fries.. even for a fry-lover like me! Ok... So I came here about a month ago and I wasn't really impressed. The meat had no flavor, the grilled mushrooms were sour and the bacon was hard and in a bunch of little pieces (like bacon bits). When I'm hungry, burgers aren't often my first choice. However, I can't seem to stop thinking about the burgers from Five Guys. They are made perfectly all the time. I enjoy the juiciness of the patty and the softness of the buns. The best thing is that I can actually taste the cheese. WOW!! The concept of this place isn't unique, but it's what makes me come back. Choosing whatever you want in your burger is the whole point of visiting Five Guys. You can add mushrooms, grilled onions, and a host of other things. The fries are delicious too. They remind me of the ones I make at home when I leave them in the oil for too long. I got the double burger with grilled onions, bell peppers and mushrooms which all slid out of the burger as i tried to pick it up.. opened it up and saw 4 small pieces of each, barely enough for one bite. The burger was thick and good, but tasted like its been sitting out for a while, i think they "sand bag" (term used to describe cooking far in advance a pile of meat before anyone orders it, to save on wait time) Fries were sad, soggy and oily. Watching the fryguy stuff the fryer baskets with potatoes will do that. (too much in a fry basket, will cool down the oil, making what ever your cooking soggy from soaking up oil rather than crispy). Sadly i bought both reg. fries and cajun fries (which is just fries dusted with cajun seasoning from any market). I'M SAD FOR THE POTATOES TO BE MADE INTO 5-GUY FRIES. over all cost for my burger, my sister's lil burger, two fries and a drink $17... way too much for a mediocre burger With umteen people working in the kitchen they better be fast. OMG! Where do I start on how over-hyped this place is. My boyfriend is from the Mideast (of the US) and the first time he saw Five guys he was so happy and just started ranting and raving about how delicious their burgers were. Well, we went to this location on Friday instead of Legends (which I suggest everyone try)... I order the Little Bacon Burger. -The L.B.B. was flavorless. Hamburger Helper has more flavor. The bun started falling apart. It was room temp, not even warm. And it was missing the most important part of a L.B.B. THE FREAKING BACON!!!!!!! My boyfriend ordered the adult version of the bacon burger. His was missing the jalapenos that he asked for and fell apart after the first bite. I don't even want to continue this review because that's how much Five Guys is not worth my time ever again. The only good thing about this place is the cool soda machine and the fries. Other than that, this place is over hyped. There's a saying, "you get what you pay for"... I'd rather pay $3 or $4 more for a burger WITH BACON, with flavorful meat, and that doesn't fall apart. If this place was really voted the best on the East Coast... they're idiots that don't know Flavor and have no Flavor like the West Coast. read more

Best burgers around!!! Close to home, fast, easy. I have the Five Guys App on my phone, makes this place faster than a drive-thru. I open the app, place the order and it pays for it right then, I walk in past all the people in line, the pick up area usually look at me and say "Mark? internet order?" and they start the fries so they are fresh. I walk out feeling like a king. The food has never been disappointing, order is always correct and always taste fantastic. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

Seriously, voted the best burger in the East Coast? heh, it's not terrible but definitely nothing to go out of the way for. When I asked my bf what he thought of the burger, he merely shrugged his shoulders and replied indifferently "eh, it's just a burger." It is just a burger; nothing spectacular considering the long list of add on's, which btw is kind of annoying considering I have to ask for pickles, tomato's, mayo, lettuce, etc... condiments that normally accompanies the standard burger. Whatever, by the time I got my burger, my sorry patty slipped out of my oversize buns, detached from my brightly colored yellow COLD Kraft cheese (it wasn't melted into the patty), and left me with a giant mess of mediocrity. read more

I decided to try 5 Guys on their first lunch, and as expected, there was a full crowd. Since I was committed, I waited in the line, and almost twice as long for my order. The line was controlled, but there was almost no room for you to stand while waiting for my food. There was a nice outdoor section, but anyone waiting outdoors kept checking in on the numbers since there was no intercom outside. Between people walking, standing, the trash cans, etc. the room was packed, but if you were sitting, I assume you wouldn't feel the crowd since they were somewhat isolated. I got my order to go, and during my wait, I learned about the on-line ordering system and the call-ahead option. I think I'll use this next time, but I'm not sure if you'd have to wait in the line to pay, which sometimes defeats the purpose. By the time I got back to the office, there were so many distractions I ended up eating it about an hour and a half later, so it was cold... :( I didn't bother to heat it up, and everything on it from the first bite was delicious. Whether or not they're competing with In-N-Out, it's hard to make a comparison. They taste more like a home grown burger that you'd BBQ in the yard. The fries were great, and after seeing all the calorie counts on the menu.... I still enjoyed them. I would definitely go back and plan to. I wish they had a drive-thru, or a little bit bigger space, but it looks like they're adding parking- since that was difficult trying to find a nearby spot.
