Service: 3 (although the gentleman who got me the bbq is deserving of a 5) Food: 5 BYOB!! (And that is: build your own burger ) This was one of those last-minute decisions. We did not know what to have for dinner and we in fact driving to a different restaurant when we saw Five Guys on the right. Then after a collective roar from the car, we decided to give it a shot. I didn't want it to be one of those dry boring burgers like one of the really big chains, extremely celebrated, but after a while it starts to taste just meh, thankfully not the case here. The cool thing here is if your burger sucks it's probably because of the way you ordered it because you have creative agency over how to make your burger. The menu is simple you choose a size of burger type of cheese and there are a ton of toppings to choose from that are all included in the price. The toppings include everything from pickles, lettuce, tomato, to grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, jalapeños and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. In addition, you may add from a plethora of condiment choices including Mayo, ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce and probably some others and I'm forgetting. I should say they offer also hotdogs but we did not try them. In terms of meat choices they have hamburger, cheeseburger, little hamburger, little cheeseburger and some large variation of those burgers. You place your order and like I said all the toppings and condiments are included in the price and the person at the register will yell out something to the effect of, "4 patties" Or something like that. They also offer a seasoned french fries which are super delicious and I believe regular fries they also have veggie options for those who are vegetarian. AnyWho, we ordered two little cheeseburgers, a protein style cheeseburger and a larger burger. We loved the burgers. The meet was juicy, cooked to perfection, and all the Veggies appear to be fresh and full of flavor. One of the coolest things about this place is after you place your order there is a bin of peanuts, like the ones at a baseball game or the peanuts that cartoon elephants eat. You get a little container fillet up with peanuts and start chomping away as you wait for your order. For about $40-$45 we had for burgers as well as a large seasoned fries. The food was great, But my only issue was the place could have probably been a bit cleaner. You do get to see them prepare your food which is great but the tables and ground needed some attention. After many "we should try this place sometime" drive-bys, we finally hauled ourselves in. Love the build it your way set-up, and when the burger came out, yowza, it was stacked. Had my bacon cheeseburger with lettuce, pickles, onions, mushrooms, and bbq sauce, and it was definitely a mouthful. Cajun-style fries were great too, totally overflowing from the cup they showed us (we went medium, could have gone small). It's definitely not cheap, but it is a quality burger that manages to distinguish itself from In-N-Out, even if as others note it doesn't quite achieve that je-ne-sais-double-double. Also, I LOVE THEIR FRIES! I got the Bacon Cheeseburger with everything on it and their amazing cajun fries and really enjoyed the meal. The cheese was melted all over the patty which is how all cheeseburgers should be, but sadly a lot of fast food places can't even get that right. I also love that they have those cool soda machines with a bunch of different sodas on a touch screen because those machines always have Seagram's Ginger Ale. Keep in mind that I love their cajun fries because they are very well seasoned, although I know many people who don't like their fries that salty so be warned. I'm actually not a meat person but let me tell you, you must get their regular size burger that comes with 2 patty. The half size burgers (1 patty) just don't deliver the same heavenly experience. I have been a five guys regular since my days at Integrity Hoops during the summer. I would come 2-3 times a week after work and indulge in a beautiful bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions, lettuce, pickles, Mayo, and ketchup; along with a classic little fry and icy bev. However, to my deep regret, since school has begun session, the quality of my favorite burger establishment has plummeted deep into oblivion. I feel the need to speak the truth on the atrocity that occurred today at Five Guys on Ventura Blvd. After ordering, I approach the soda machine. Branded with having 100+ flavors of beverage, to my dismay, there were less than half the types of soda available to me. Not only that, but the ice dispenser was broken and the normally cool, crisp, thirsty quenching drink came out lukewarm. I walked back to my table in shame with a warm Dr. Pepper in hand. I then proceeded to wait an abnormally long time for my burger. After receiving the infamous brown paper bag, I reached in to take part in a "fresh" fry. I had never been more disappointed in my life: my fries were cold, soft, and non-erect. The only thing keeping my hopes alive was that the burger would save the day. Immediately, the burger bun was not the usual soft, luscious, delectable bread it usually is. Furthermore, the cheese on my burger was hardly melted. I quite literally had to chew the bare cheese square in my mouth. The burger wasn't absolutely terrible, however it was no where close to previous meals. The only positive that came from today was my post lunch Western Bagel. I love this joint with my whole heart, but I do need to speak on its unacceptable performance today (11:50, 2-1-22). I stopped coming here a few months back because the store was dirty and the staff didn't seem happy to be there - it was like a dark gloomy graveyard! but this morning I took my wife and kids out to lunch and we were blown away by the service we received. The manager, Kayla was super helpful and seemed genuinely happy to be there. The staff were outgoing and friendly to the point where my kids were having a great time watching them cook everything. I don't eat fast food too often because I find it to be poor quality and my body hurts afterwards. I was craving a cheeseburger and decided to give 5 Guys a try. Wow! Why did I wait so long? This cheeseburger was juicy and delicious. Freshly made. Totally hit the spot. Their fries taste like real potatoes. This not fast food but quickly made food that tastes like real food! My body didn't have the immediate sick feeling I get from other burger places. The service at this location was great. Chase S rang me up and was friendly and knowledgeable. In fact I saw several people working and everyone seemed happy. Great service is important and feeling the staff doesn't hate their job is refreshing. I visited this Five Guys on the Southwest corner of Ventura Blvd and Coldwater Canyon with friends while attending a taping of Big Brother last summer. I have to be honest, it was a little confusing getting in here in spite of the Yelp directions attempting to guide us. The signage is quite visible from the street, yet we drove past it once or twice before figuring out how to handle the parking, so let me give you an insider tip. For the most convenient parking, turn off Ventura Blvd onto Coldwater Canyon. Turn into the center, then look for the sign that says self park or free valet park. We ended up parking some distance away and walking through the whole little center. Once you finally arrive, the decor is a bright and cheery red and white, much of it in a checkerboard pattern. The feeling is a little industrial with the ductwork out in the open, but still finished as the ceiling is painted black and the ductwork a deep red. Red and white overhead lamps dangle from the ceiling like little alien flying saucers invading Southern California. "Take me to your fry cook" Whoever designed the decor in these stores has never heard of the word "humble" The walls are covered with signs announcing that Five Guys Burgers is the best at this or that. Talk about blowing your own horn, but at least we have something to look at while you wait for your burgers. WARNING: If you have any sort of peanut allergies this place could easily be the death of you. There are large open boxes full of peanuts in the shell that you are welcome to help yourself to for free, (woot! woot!) but that also means that there are peanut toxins blowing around freely so if you're at all allergic they'd be hard to avoid. People tend to throw the shells around so the floor is not exactly "eat off the floor" clean if you know what I mean. FYI they also cook their fries in peanut oil so while they are RATHER TASTY those are a no-no for our peanut allergy friends, too. There is a sign on the side of one of the peanut boxes that says "DUE TO POSSIBLE ALLERGIC REACTIONS PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE PEANUTS FROM THE STORE" Have we really reached the point where our society is so litigious that peanuts will have to be regulated like hand guns? Do I need a CCP (concealed carry peanut) license to bring one of these dangerous nuts out in public? There is a Coca-Cola Freestyle soda machine inside which guarantees you can have just about any soda flavor combination you wish. Seriously, they advertise that there are 100+ possible combinations of sodas including a number of syrup flavors. My eyes light up and my little heart skips a beat every time I walk up to one of these bright red monoliths. Now, down to the important part - the burgers. They are hot and juicy and oh so tasty. None of those skinny cardboard looking and tasting burger patties here. What makes the difference? Well, they use only fresh ground beef. They don't even have freezers at their burger joints, only refrigerators, so the meat has never been frozen. I should warn you, though, that the REGULAR hamburger comes with two patties. I forgot to warn my lunch companions and they were quite surprised when their burgers had two patties and mine had one. Yes, when I ordered I specified I wanted the SMALL burger which comes with only one patty instead of the regular burger which comes with two. Five Guys Burgers claims that there are over 250,000 ways that you can order one of their burgers, considering the fifteen different free toppings that are available, but I beg to differ. The ONLY way to order one of these tasty meaty treats is with jalapeno peppers and bacon. Okay, you can add ketchup or BBQ sauce but my do not forget the bacon and peppers. You'll be doing your taste buds a favor. read more

I'm a Five Guys fan! Their burgers are simple and tasty in a backyard BBQ sort of way, but they have enough topping choices to keep things interesting. They're greasy, filling, and huge, with a price that's wonderfully acceptable. Their fries are awesome if a little greasy, and they give you more than you could possibly eat. I like them Cajun Style, but both styles are great. My only complaints are small ones, which are both particularly fussy. First, if you order "for here" they still put your food in a paper bag. Your burger will be at the bottom, and your fries will be on top, and spilling out everywhere, so the only way to get your burger out is to reach your hand into the bag and through the pile of greasy fries and pull it out, so your hands are gonna be super greasy before you've even begun eating. I know it's a very small thing to complain about, but would it kill them to have for-here baskets to avoid the mess? Second complaint, also small, is that their buns can't quite live up to the wetness of the toppings between them. Even eating my burger at the place seconds after it appeared, the bottom bun was already soggy. If you're eating it there it's not a huge deal, but if you ordered to go and tried to eat at home your burger would be a mess. Perhaps toast the buns a bit longer? All in all, Five Guys is a great choice if you want a simple, no-frills, straight-forward burger eating experience. read more

The fry quantity is always super generous since they're overflowing in the bag as well. I really feel sorry for those people with peanut allergies, they will never be able to taste the "Willy Wonkas of Burgercraft" & the mouth watering French fries of course.. I've only come here a handful of times, whenever I like treating myself since their prices are a little too much for burgers and fries.. The free peanuts make the seating area messy at times, it's not always clean and makes it hard to pick a table.. Another burger chain; whooptie-damn-do! I kid, I kid. There's always room for more burgers in LA. How else are we supposed to light a fire under PETA's arse? Five Guys serves up some pretty tasty burgers with good amounts of customization. You are paying a bit more for these luxuries, though. A basic, single-patty burger will run you about $5 - a far cry from the value you can get at In-N-Out. FG does have more to offer with hot dogs and chicken sandwiches. Also, their boardwalk style fries are incredibly tasty. Customer service was incredible; are these couture burgers or something? Everyone is super friendly! Also, they have free peanuts and their soda fountain touch-screen thing is pretty fun to mess with. My only complaint is that their buns are on the flimsy side. My burger kinda got soggy and fell apart towards the end. Since this will never be addressed, I can only give FG 4-stars. It's a great alternative to In-N-Out, The Habit, and Fatburger if you ever get tired of those chains. read more

The amount of grease you're consuming is enough for a two star rating! I work directly upstairs from them so I have a bit of a different insight. First off, if you're going to skip anything on the menu skip the bacon! Although the location opens at 11am, they have personal start at 8am designated to fry ALL the BACON for the ENTIRE DAY! So if you're enjoying a bacon burger at 9 at night, you're basically consuming 13 hour old bacon that they store in a bin. Our office discovered this after complaining to property management that our office has this potent grease smell every morning. Everything else for the most part is fresh. A lot of people compare Five Guys to In-n-Out and really the only comparison is that they are both a burger joint with simple (or limited depending on how you look at it) menus. Five Guys does however have more food item options in addition to burgers like Hot Dogs, Sandwiches and regular and Cajun Fried (High Recommend you try). They have two size burgers so be careful when you're ordering for the first time. Their regular size burgers consist of two patties, for lack of a better description, they "glue" the patties together with yummy melted cheese. If you don't want that much meat get the "Little" size (one patty). You have a lot more to choose from as far as the Mix-in/sauces goes at no additional cost. While you're waiting for you meal you can enjoy peanuts. They food if good, I went the day they opened and I enjoyed the burger and they've only improved with time/experience. They recently added outdoor seating. Their portions are large, even the "Little". When you order fries they put them in a cup, which I'm not particularly fond of because the bottom fries get soggy. In addition, when they are preparing your order and you've ordered fries, they pour additional fries into the bag. Great that you get more food, but a real turn off when you look at all the grease on the brown paper bag. Their staff is nice and another plus side is that you can order online! read more

YES! YEEEESSS!! I don't know why it took me so long to find this place. I had my first 5 Guys experience when I was on a roadtrip back to LA from Temecula. After a crazy 5K of being chased by zombies, I couldn't imagine a better recovery meal. So, the question is, was it only delicious because my completely abused body needed any form of nutrition it could find and was a desperate place? The verdict: No. Fully recovered, all I could think about was that juicy burger that I had slathered in ketchup, mayo, and grilled onions... The cheese perfectly melted, completely encompassing that perfectly grilled patty. I visited the Sherman Oaks location, to satisfy this urge. A burger to-go. It was easily just as delicious as the first time! This time with the grilled mushrooms added to the mix. It's been a long time since I've had a burger so good, you could actually savor the dripping goodness of real beef. Many other burger joints have tasteless meat patties OR meat patties bigger than my head, that I can't even enjoy them for fear of just completely wasting a cow's life if I didn't eat every bit of the oversized burger.
