If you've never been to this east coast transplant chain, get your first burger "all the way" for it is their signature product and, along with their ridiculously good and generous fresh French fries, what they deserve to be judged on first. At first the toppings were not quite what I would have chosen, but an "All the Way" burger is greater than the sum of it's parts. It was awesome. Two words: Condiment Synergy! I've read they're the east coast "answer to In-N-Out." In terms of freshness and quality, I would agree. Sitting there my first time I heard someone opine for a competitor's freshness...but, it's easy to taste fresh when you only have lettuce and tomato, and onions at your party--and a ton of lettuce at that. The Guys bring those as well as sauteed mushrooms, some of the best pickles ever, along with a wider array of sauces. Besides, you here for the salad or are you here for the burger, baby? Somehow here in Vacaville, there seems to be some rivalry generated with In-N-Out in the hearts and minds of diners...and I have to say that when it comes to the burgers...well Five guys has bacon (optional) and sauteed mushrooms, so they automatically win. When it comes to hot dogs, Five guys wins because there is no contestant from the other side. And when it comes to soft drinks, Five Guys wins for having the entire Coca-Cola line up includining Coke Zero, Cherry Coke, and Power Ade. In-N-Out does win on milkshakes, however because Five Giys just doesn't have them. With the fries...its a no-contest, In-N-Out fries are and have always been limp, bland, weak-sauce generally speaking and 5 guys are epic proportions and flavor... But really, to me, it's about what you're in the mood for. They are each a different taste in burgers. If you're driving, you have to go In-N-Out because of the drive-thru but also a double-double can be contained. A Five Guys "All The Way" Cheeseburger (two bigger patties, by the way) cannot and demands your full attention. Comparing these two is like comparing pancakes and waffles, each has their own strengths...there is no point in saying one is better than the other, they're both great, especially when you don't have to make them yourself. read more

I had never heard of five guys until i was with my friend who was born in jersey and we saw one being built in Sacramento. She flipped out and said that it is the best burger place hands down and that she was shocked to see them in Cali. I immediately wanted to try it, and soon enough I had that opportunity. Can I say AMAZING? Amazingly super bomb delicious burger!! The burgers are so meaty and cheesey. The toppings are oh so delicious. With so many to choose from such as peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes shredded lettuce and many more. Also their Cajun Fries are yummy and they even post where the potatoes for the fries are from on that particular day. So I have grown up in Cali and I have always thought IN-N-OUT was pretty good. So much hype...if I never had In N Out and Five Guys Burgers and Fries, I'd say In N Out is the clear winner because of its special sauce. However, I don't really crave In N Out so I'd say this place is pretty refreshing if you're craving clearly fresh patties and fresh toppings. The bread is just okay. Normal cheeseburger/hamburgers have 2 patties, so you have to order a junior to get only 1 patty. I got the "all the way", which includes all toppings listed in black (mayo, mushrooms, grilled onions, tomato, lettuce, mustard, and ketchup), but I also ordered jalapenos as all the toppings are free :) I didn't order fries but I liked how fat they were and how they still had the potato skin on them. Their burgers are tasty but what I really loved about this place was their fries and so on a recent outlet excursion we decided we had to hit up 5 guys! For $2.69 (small size) you get enough fries to feed a small country (no idea what the large would look like) and the mini burgers are definitely not mini (i only ate 1/2 of mine and saved the rest for a snack later). My first impression of this place, upon walking into the establishment, is that this is by far one of the smallest Five Guys locations that I've ever stepped foot in. The are a decent amount of tables to dine at; however, I'm sure once the place gets fairly busy they run out of seating in no time. Anyway, the service here is about average. I love how the guy packed my meal to go when I specifically told him that I would be dining there when i ordered my meal at the cash register. It seems crazy to compare this place to In 'N Out Burger. The burgers here are clearly superior. You get the sense that you're going back in time and eating real American food, not just a pseudo-facsimile. Like the real thing in days of old, they are going to drip with grease. The one thing I don't like is how the bun falls apart. I like that the french fries still have the skin on them. They have a great listing of free toppings. for example, there's no extra charge for adding grilled mushrooms. They also have free peanut. It was about 3x the amount I fries I was expecting. -Soda: they have coke zero and sprite zero in addition to the usual coke offerings. The total was just about $15 and both my boyfriend and I were completely stuffed. We sat there for quite some time eating more fries than we probably should have eaten, and in the end, we still had leftovers. Overall, I think I like it. I don't understand why there's so much hype around this place. There is no reason why anyone should even compare this place to In-N-Out. I ordered a small bacon burger from here with grilled onions, cheese, bacon, tomatoes, lettuce, and mushrooms and for $6, it was the most disappointing burger I've ever had in my life. Ever aspect of the burger was a huge disappointment: - The buns, while slightly toasted, was soggy when it arrived at my table. And even as the buns was toasted, it was heated unevenly so the top of the bun was still cold, and slightly stale tasting. - Lettuce was packaged lettuce, and doesn't compare to the hand leafed lettuce of in-n-out. Same with tomatoes. Not fresh cut. - Cheese: unmelted. This is unacceptable. Who eats a burger with unmelted cheese? Almost made me gag. - Grilled onions tasted more like stir fried onions. No caramelization like the grilled onions of in-n-out, and very bland tasting. - Mushrooms were unseasoned, and added no flavors to the burger. - Bacon was passable, but was on the soggy side. It's all about preference. I'm an In-N-Out fan. Five Guys is way too greasy for my liking. They have fresh ingredients, which are delicious of course. Made to order burgers and hot dogs. The fries aren't something to rave about, they're comparable to wing stop fries IMO. The place in Vacaville is rather crowded, the tables are really close together. Caution to parents with babies- don't bring a stroller inside. A big con for me- no shakes!!! read more
