This is an awesome brunch place for families or date. It was her first time however I have been her twice and have always had a great experience. It was the first time I indulged in the southern Benny and I must say it was good choice. I, personally feel that it could have done without either one (the eggs or the pimento cheese), or just less cheese. The home fries was great and satisfying being that I like a little spice. The country skillet was great too but I'm sure I was missing the sausage element (only because I don't do pork. Nope no pork on my fork un huh. The restaurant is a little tucked away but not hard too find and the intimate environment makes the food very close to home style. All the staff was awesome; very patient and welcoming. I was in town to visit relatives and we decided to have breakfast here. It was fabulous! I ordered the Southern Benny, which is eggs Benedict with a southern twist. It included a crab cake, a fried green tomato, pimento cheese (that I left off), a poached egg and Old Bay Hollandaise. OMG, it was awesome! It came with a side of grits that were the best I've ever had. They were stone ground local grits with cheese and bacon, but the bacon did not overpower the flavor. My wife had chicken and waffles. The chicken was perfectly fried, very moist and flavorful. The waffle was topped with homemade cinnamon and maple butter and accompanied by bourbon pecan syrup. There is a story on the menu about the provisions necessary due to COVID-19. There is an environmental fee (4%) that is assessed to help offset the cost of PPE for the employees, which is not bad at all. They are serving a reduced menu due to not being able to seat 100% yet, but they clearly put 2 of the best dishes on the menu. We will DEFINITELY be returning for breakfast the next time we're in town. read more

Our family's first meal at Five Loaves since the pandemic, and we are happy to report that Five Loaves is still amazing. Service, food, atmosphere and safety precautions are spot on! Our family is now vaccinated, but my mom is very nervous about dining out. But everything was so clean and the Five Loaves' staff was so good about masking and sanitation that my mom felt comfortable enough to eat inside. That's a huge deal for my mom. The food is still OMG! Everyone but me had the filet, and they couldn't stop talking about how good the filet, veggies and demi-glacé sauce tasted and looked. I had the Thai hot pot, which was filled with superbly fresh veggies finely chopped. Our waitress Des is fantastic! She never let our water glasses go empty, was very attentive and friendly but very conscious of social distancing, was fully masked all the time, was so very helpful with suggestions, packed up my soup leftover skillfully, and was patient as the family is a little rusty when it comes to restaurant dining. read more

this is a great place for lunch! i also love the fact that it's in an old house and all of the ambiance that comes with that. the food is always good. i love their flc Caesar salad...it has tortellini in it! and i usually add chicken. it is my favorite thing there. and if you get the full size portion you had better be hungry. my aunt has had the cobb salad and the hot ham and brie and said both were very good. so if you're by downtown Summerville and are looking for a great lunch and something more on the healthier side, i would very much recommend five loaves. read more

Had a great lunch at five loaves. I'm a stickler for the front of the house. They are the first impression someone had when coming to dine, and the woman here, must have been having an off day, because she wasn't too inviting. I don't expect you to jump through hoops, but make eye contact at least. Our meal was amazing. I got the flat bread pesto pizza and it was so good. Then the sampler of soups. Five Loaves is in a refurbished house in Summerville that oozes charm. I'm totally obsessed with the mason jar light fixtures on the front porch. The inside is equally charming (love the fireplace!). Five Loaves is definitely my go-to salad place. The half salads are huge and usually under $5. I went to lunch with my stepmom last week and convinced her to go for the smaller portion and she ended up taking half of it home. I powered through and finished mine though (like a BOSS). I love that they have daily specials. My most recent salad (the cow pea one, pictured) was off that menu and it was delicious. read more

I've been constantly dinning here for 4 years and can easily say it is one of my favorite places to eat in Summerville. The inside decor is so welcoming and have a cozy trendy "Summerville" feeling. The food is always fresh and tasty. The specials are always delicious and well thought out with great flavors and local items. But now they are under new ownership and they have a new menu and some local favorites are gone. I loved the uniqueness of all the meals here and I feel that it might be taken away. Hopefully it's not!! This particular visit I got the chilled smoked salmon salad with lemon thyme dressing and tomato tarragon crab soup. This soup is always my go to because it is delicious! The last few visits have been uneventful and lackluster. It was a party of 2 and the waitress brought out one dish at a time over ten minutes for the actual meal. It was like a piece meal? How can you get that wrong? It should have been on one platter. You can tell the cook was not interested in the order because it was bland and boring. Tried this place for the first time earlier this week. Had a 35 minute wait which I'm not a fan of but it was totally worth it. Their food was great, portions and size were on point. Visiting Angels has started a "Hangry Marketer" Campaign to support and fund a local lowcountry place of business every Friday. We chose Five Loaves Cafe at their Summerville location because I had not been here in over a year and a half! The greeter heard our request for a quiet and comfortable seating, takinus to the long back room and booths they have. The waiter Derrick was humorous, polite, and a great sport for a photo for the review. I had Udis Gluten Free bread with their Chicken Feta Oregano Burger and I absolutely loved it. I so wanted to love this place! The bread they give as a starter was really good. The broccoli potato cheese soup (not pictured) was very heavy and disappointing. It tasted like soupy mashed potatoes with light broccoli. Our server was friendly, but it took FOREVER, for us to get our food... at least 45 minutes. With two 5 year olds, that was a bit too long. The portobello burger was okay, a bit dry. The eggplant parmesan was subpar. The pasta below the eggplant was clumpy and not consistently cooked. The marinara sauce was good. The cheese on top was delicious. The eggplant was also not cooked completely and parts of it were raw. The Hot pot was DELISH! It was great flavor and would be perfect for a cold day! Male manager (I think his name is Josh) is very rude! My order was not correct. Instead of owning the mistake and apologizing, he said that I ordered the salad incorrectly. However, my receipt says otherwise. Said salad was also $24 (including service fee and chips), so I would like the salad the way in which it was ordered. I order from this place several times per week, because it is close to my office. Over the past couple months, customer service is slipping. This is the 3rd or 4th time in a about 6 weeks that something has been forgotten. I did mention this to him, but he did not seem to be concerned in any way. It was a great atmosphere, our food came quickly considering how many people were sat at once. Our server was more than friendly and accommodating. She made sure to check on us multiple times. The eggplant salad was delicious and fresh. A bed of arugula, topped with goat cheese, topped with two eggplant patties, topped with two perfectly prepared asparagus spears. The dressing was honey, Balsamic vinegar and it was the delectable compliment to the dish. Healthy doesn't always mean tasty, in this case it does! We arrived at 430. Service was great and although we arrived before dinner time the server allowed us to get items off the dinner menu. We order a cup of potato and broccoli soup and smoked salmon for apps. Wife like the soup. The salmon was good but the left off the pickled onions, which would have added to the dish. No big deal just some missing onions. We order the chicken Marsala and 7oz fillet as our entrees The chicken and filet were both completely smothered in a brown sauce along with all my sides. The sauce covered the chicken and the fettuccine which were overcooked. The chicken Marsala resembled soup. My steak, potatoes,and veggies were all covered in this sauce so everything tasted the same. The steak was to be medium rare. However, it was burnt on the outside and very rare on the Inside. When I saw the plates come to the table my reactions as anyone's would have been. Was wow, there is a lot of sauce. I know restaurants have their good and bad moments. I hope next time someone takes a little time to prepare the dinners and not just slop sauce over everything. read more

My mom and I stopped by Five Loaves Cafe in Oct 2017 for some lunch. I'd never been to the Summerville location! It's in what clearly used to be a house but not too small which is sometimes the case with restaurants that set up shop in a house. The parking lot is big so parking isn't an issue though we came when it had been raining so we had to traverse a few muddy puddles. We both really enjoyed our food! I'd ordered the chicken cobb salad, just the half size and it was so much food! My only issue was it was served on a plate that was too small to do anything but gingerly eat the salad and hope it didn't fall off. Since most salads need some mixing of ingredients (this salad being no exception), I asked our waitress for a bigger plate. BINGO! All was well after that. The amount of dressing served was perfect and the salad was delicious. I was a bit sad that the avocado got lost in the mix, but I'd order the salad again. All of the servers that I have had have all been very polite and knowledgeable about the menu. Able to offer help in deciding if you're unable to choose. As for the food, it's hard to be beat for lunch. Their sandwiches are second to none this goes for both size and flavor. My two favorites are the coriander roast beef and the ultimate blt. Both of these sandwiches have unique sauces that's applied to the bread. For me, I always get a half sandwich and half salad. Which may at first seems like that's may not be enough to fill someone up. But I can ensure you, doing a half and half will be more than enough. Their salad choice are sure to please everyone. I happen to enjoy the tomato mozzarella salad. But the eggplant fritter salad is also great. Overall Five Loaves is a good restaurant. With something for everyone.
