We hired this company for a local move from Culver City area to Long Beach and were expecting a move that would take 4-6 hours. Before you hire them, go ahead and at least DOUBLE the price they quote you at. Our quote for a 3-hour move was $542. They tried to charge almost triple the estimate (over $1300), which we eventually negotiated down to $1100 after calling the company multiple times. Having just completed the same move (but across the country and with TVs, artwork, and several items we moved ourselves this time around), our last company cleared out our 2-bedroom apartment in 1.5 hours. However, after 4 hours, these movers were still dawdling, spending 15 minutes at a time with all 3 movers in their truck, slowly wrapping furniture in plastic wrap, and taking nearly 40 minutes to disassemble a basic, bare-bones queen size bed frame. They know they make more money the longer they take and they intentionally dragged their feet to increase the price of the move. Do sofa cushions need to be plastic-wrapped? Absolutely not. Can they waste 20 minutes doing it? You bet. This company intentionally quotes low and then moves at a snail pace to jack up the price. It is completely deceptive. The customer service representative/manager ("Greg") was also very rude when we called 5 hours into the move (not even having left our starting point) to let him know that the team was moving too slowly. Never again would I use or recommend this company to anyone. To add insult to injury, they left piles of plastic wrap at both locations and refused to take it with them or put it in a dumpster. read more

I had a really hard time finding a reliable mover; one guy cancelled on me last minute! I was so relieved when Five Star had availability last minute that I honestly didn't even bother reading all the comments here.. I'm happy to say my experience was...five star :) Alex and Ilay ( ) arrived right on time and took extreme care of everything they touched. They didn't drag their feet or try to milk the time they spent on the project, rather they worked diligently and briskly. I really thought at least one thing was going to break in this process, but I'm happy to say I was wrong. Nothing was even scratched. These guys know what they're doing and they are honest. No hidden fees or surprises. And the rate was great too, not the cheapest option, but for the price, I'm happy to say it was the best one. I initially left a positive review but need to change it. After my move the storage facility I used called and told me several of my items were left on the floor of the facility. The items were random and packed away in a box. I couldn't figure out how they ended up on the floor. After I unpacked, I never found my scale which is odd. I called the company to see if it was possibly left in the truck. They said no (rather defensively I might add). It is my belief that the movers Eric, Issac and Emir dropped a box damaged my glass scale and unknowingly left items on the floor. Instead of telling me, they accepted a tip and asked me to leave a positive review before I could figure it out. Do not recommend. Dishonest and unethical. I am old and it was my first time using a moving company. Some of the quotes l got were scary. Luckily someone recommended Five Star. Chris is very helpful explaining everything, but my frazzled brain only comprehended some of it. The movers did their best to protect all my belongings, most of it was glass and none of it broke. This is my first 1 star review but I thought I needed to say something. We scheduled a junk removal and was quoted $150 two separate times. One day before the scheduled date, we get a call saying the price went up to $250 and that the pick up time needed to be changed to the afternoon. When I called to get an explanation, I was told the prices are subject to change at their discretion anytime. So I cancelled the removal. Who does business like this? I hope you guys realize this is not an ethical way to conduct business. Even if the quote was a mistake, which I'm being told was not, you guys should honor it. Terrible experience. Took two days to move us out and three days to move us to our new location. They were totally unprepared to move a house our size ( 2600 square feet). The price they quoted over the phone was significantly less than the actual charge. Each day we had trucks there was a different crew. For the most part, the people that moved us out were different than those that moved us in. It was like the right hand didn't know what the left was doing. Terrible communications with the office. Very defensive attitude. Included in our move were two large trash bags of clothing and shoes from some other customers. I initially had booked a different company for my move and they canceled on me on my scheduled time. I was left desperate at 3:00pm "on the street" with all my furniture, and Chris from 5 Star Moving was able to get me at the last minute two movers. They severely damaged most of our furniture. The two movers were pretty friendly, and the reviews were glowing, so I thought our stuff was safe in their hands. Not so. Our brand new fridge we'd just bought for $580 was in perfect condition. Now it has deep, foot long cuts that are carved into the metal on three sides, and dents and scuffs on the door. A large, white Kallax shelving unit from IKEA that was also in perfect condition now has deep gashes that expose the interior of the wood. My professional workstation desk was already in moderate condition with a few scuffs and drink-rings from the start, but even that is considerably scratched up from the moving. Even if they gave all my money back, it wouldn't cover half the resale equity I've lost from my now badly damaged fridge and Kallax. And that's just covering the damage! They also entered our apartment complex without masks (during the COVID-19 pandemic) and acted indignant when I asked them to put on masks for the safety of my pregnant, asthmatic wife. When we got to the new apartment, they were handling our stuff without masks again!! They also spoke to each other in a different language the whole time even though their English was excellent. The last point isn't really a huge flaw, but it is a bit disrespectful and is bad customer service(again, considering their English was so effortlessly good.) I don't know how all the reviews are so positive. Buyer beware. Your stuff is not safe in their hands! read more

As usual they were on time, very professional and thorough with packing/unpacking however the only issue was the movers (Balto/Dan/Urmat) were very slow and took 6 hrs for a 1 bedroom apartment. I needed to do a temporary move for several months from Rancho Palos Verdes, up north to Ventura County. Besides wanting to hire a competent company who would move my household goods safely and in a professional manner, I was particularly concerned about moving a very heavy wine refrigerator - a little over 1,000 lbs. empty!!! As is common on the Palos Verdes peninsula, every home is on a hill. That means that the front of the home is lower than the rear and a moving company has to go down hill as they carry everything to the truck! These guys were amazing as they carried this be behemoth of a wine cabinet very carefully to the truck - Wow!!! What a feat!!! The cabinet and all of my goods arrived safely and the guys were so nice and professional. About 5 months later, I moved back down to the South Bay, to a new home in Redondo Beach. I hired these guys again and had the same head crewman and a couple of guys I had not previously met. Once again, they had to move the gigantic wine cabinet, and one again they moved it securely and unscathed. The owner Mike made sure that everything was handled right and that I was happy with their service. It's hard to find good movers and it's always a stressful experience to move. I am an Air Force wife and my husband and I have moved many time over the years. I can confidently say that this is the best and most honest company I have ever had the pleasure to work with!!! We had five star move us. They are very unprofessional! They didn't wear any face masks to begin with. We had hidden charges every day. They broke furniture and never said anything to us until we saw it. They flooded the restroom two times and said nothing to us and left us to clean up water. They left trash, empty water bottles, paper, empty rolls of tape and other things. They didn't clean until I started too complain too them. And the response I received from the supervisor was ( If you're not satisfied with our work we will bring it back your furniture and boxes, unwrap it and you can find somebody else, with no refund!!!) and then had the nerve to tell me that the Misses, is rude and complains too much.
