Simply horrible, best describes my dining experience on Monday - July 2, 2018. The service was painfully slow, and we had to chase down the staff to get requested items. I ordered cream chipped beef on toast, sausage links side dish, and coffee. The coffee which took forever to get because the waiter claimed he waited for "fresh brewed" was so strong that it barely changed color when half n half was added. A nasty, cheap, bitter, brew, best describes the cup of tragedy, which I sent back. There is a difference between stronger than I prefer, but flavorful, and what is being served here. The cream chipped beef was yellowish in color, lacking in both cream, and chipped beef. It was basically flour & water, with a minuscule amount of chipped beef, over burnt toast. At this point, I just suffered through the over cooked, mushy tasting, sausage links side dish, and actually enjoyed some of the home fried potatoes, but could not eat what I would truly categorize as S.O.S. I have always loved Jersey diners, and look forward to breakfast at one when I visit my home state from time to time. This place is a blight upon all the great Jersey diners, and the hardworking staff which makes them so good. Drive past this one folks! read more

I had breakfast here on Mother's Day. Coffee and food were great diner quality. I had the french toast and eggs. Serving size was more than enough for one, but not quite enough for two. My friend and I were unable to finish our plates, but left happy. Reasonably priced. Staff was friendly and accommodating. WARNING - new owners. This used to be a great place to go on holidays like Mother's Day, but it has really dissappointed this year. They have a very limited and significantly more expensive menu and they are literally adding up charges for the kids menu because it's a holiday. The poor wait staff is spologetic. Rude host. We went there a total of 3 times in 1 month. The first time was ok. The 2nd time the host only wanted to do take out although the outdoor seating was set up. We left. Decided to give them one last chance to redeem themselves as we like the food on the first visit. There were some folks there eating. We had a party of 6. Last time they put 2 tables together for a party of 7 for us this time (we had a mixed group of Asian and Caucasian), they said we would have to sit a separate tables in groups of 3?! Really, you will separate a family of 6 because you can't put 2 tables together and there were at least 7 vacant tables. The host just shook his shoulders at me. I hate to bring race into it but maybe being Asian doesn't fit their demographic? Whatever we went to Clinton Station Diner. It was 10 minutes away. Advice to owner: businesses are struggling during COVID you should welcome EVERY customer because you will end up closed like many other places. Flavorless pancakes and french toast. Watery syrup. Eggshells in scrambled eggs. Bacon and sausage was good. I even complained and they did not take anything off of my bill. $26 for nothing and we barely ate it. Service was bad he never asked how the food was or if we needed anything else. Will not return. I've been here over a handful of times and have never had a bad experience. Last night was another example of this. Our server was Brian C and he was excellent. He kept us laughing, made good suggestions for menu choices, and didn't rush us at all. I got the Cobb salad and asked for olive oil and vinegar dressing and he suggested I try their homemade olive oil vinaigrette- I am sooo happy I listened because it was DELICIOUS! The salad portion was huge so I took half home and asked for a to go container of the dressing. He brought me a huge plastic container of it so now I can have it all week! He also gave us a free cookie. It was just another reason why I will always be coming back to this diner! read more

Food was decent but still prefer Bridgewater diner by a long shot. Avoid ordering the "large" orange juice unless you want to pay $3.79 for 8 oz. of Minute Maid. Besides the food being better, the OJ at Bridgewater is twice the size and fresh squeezed. read more

I am extremely disappointed by my experience at the flemington diner. I got a simple egg white omelette with 4 vegetables and was shocked when I got the check. They charged me 9 dollars for the omelette itself and then 1 dollar for each topping. My total was 15 dollars for an omelette that I barely even ate because it was so unappetizing. To make it worse, the management was incredibly rude and insensitive to my concern. DON'T GO HERE... Not worth it read more

Our waitress was extremely rude, when I called to speak to management she was just as bad. She couldn't be bothered so put a male host on the phone to speak to me and he was polite and apologetic which I did appreciate. The 2 stars are for him. read more

This was my third time at this diner. The food is good, nothing to write home about. It is very clean, and the wait staff (even if they are young) are very attentive! The HUGE problem here is the owners !!!!! Every time I have been here, my appetite is ruined due to the owners berating the wait staff constantly!! If you are going to reprimand your staff, do it behind closed doors you Neanderthals!!! It was so bad at one of my visits that I actually had to walk up to one of the owners and tell him to step away from the waitress ... He was following her around pointing in her face calling her names and such!!! I complained , but of course he is one of the owners!! I even asked one of the teenagers why they work there under those conditions ..and the person told me they get a lot of hours there so they need to make money . It looks nice on the outside, is nice on the inside, but when it comes to the food it's very typical diner fare. Some hits and some misses. Sandwich platters are good and there is plenty to eat. Breakfasts are just so-so, and they fill the plate with potatoes instead of the main meal. It works for most everyone but just don't expect too much. read more

We just had breakfast there this morning and it was as hoped/ expected, good size omelets and quality coffee. The diner seemed roomier then most thus avoiding that cramped feeling you get in some other diners. The ambiance was new and warm . A good solid jersey diner. Had lunch there today and food was fine, as was the service. Why the one star??? There were two tables who were conducting business on their phones using the speaker and no matter where you were seated in the diner you couldn't get away from the racket. Our waitress was upset as other tables were complaining. I asked her to speak to the owner/manager, which she did, but he was clearly afraid to speak to them and rectify the situation, so therefore did nothing. As we were leaving I complained about the phones and asked him why he didn't address the situation and he just kept saying " yea, yea, yea" over and over again. What exactly does that mean? My boyfriend and I came to this diner for lunch. We both ordered cheeseburgers. The burgers were delicious and portions were large. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the coleslaw. Service was great! The restaurant was very clean. Price was average. We definitely will come back. read more

Maybe I am a diner snob. I grew up in this great state, and my expectations are pretty high. Not everyone can or should open a diner in New Jersey. There are specific dishes that are featured here in NJ. You can't screw up fries with mozzarella and gravy, and expect a passing grade on your review. Eggs - they shall be real and freshly made. Egg beaters are a no no. Clearly, they have struggled since opening day, to achieve a passing grade. The problem with Flemington, is that they are in dire need of good restaurants. read more

The Hunterdon County Retired Educators had their Holiday Brunch at the Flemington-Raritan Diner yesterday, Dec. 5. We could not have been more pleased. AUG 2015: We went for dinner the other night and the New England Clam Chowder was so incredibly salty I sent it back. It tasted like it had actually been made with ocean water. The flavor was great, but the amount of salt was ridiculous. This is the third visit I had to send the soup back. This time, I asked our adorable & friendly waitress if she had experienced this before.... her answer was "a lot". She told me a lot of people complain about the soups being too salty. Well, helloooo..... why don't they fix this? I got the matzo ball soup in place of it and while I would like less salt, or better yet, salt it to my taste, it was better. I had a dish with chicken, shrimp and scallops with linguini in a white sauce or gravy that pretty much had no flavor at all. I took half home and threw away the chicken chunks because they were like dense chunks of boiled chicken with no seasoning. I don't know what has happened to this diner that we loved and enjoyed so much before. .......... MY OLDER REVIEW This was our # one, go to, favorite diner. We have been going almost since they opened, and used to go a lot ... but, the soups are almost consistently salty for some reason, and we have noted this to them several times and were told others have said this as well. I even had to send some back because it was too salty to eat. As we get older, we need lower salt foods, and are quite capable of salting our own food if we need to. As diabetics, we are also limited to what we can eat, but one of our favorites was the broiled seafood combo, only they no longer have scallops on the plate and the last two times, the shrimp was dried out and tasteless. The lovely presentation is not consistent like it was for a long time before either. Once, my broiled combo was swimming in a pool of butter or oil and I had to send it back. BUT ... the food is still pretty good & the staff has always been very friendly and excellent! We just feel that before this spring, they were a superior diner, and sadly now, just pretty good as far as our dinners have gone. I don't know why that is, but it has effected the frequency of our diner visits. I would still recommend it to friends. read more

Service, staff and food choice is excellent. You're always greeted immediately and seated quickly. Food served promptly. Portions so large always in need of a to-go container. My family and I frequent the diner due to the friendly atmosphere, the variety of menu selections, affordable prices and not to mention the cleanliness. No need to go elsewhere! read more

This is my favorite place for breakfast on the road. The eggs Benedict are done perfect and the hollandaise sauce is delicious. The French toast made with challah is also a favorite. I always get the link sausage....it's big, juicy and meaty. read more

We finally tried out this new diner and are happy to finally have a real diner in Flemington. As stated in other reviews the menu is IDENTICAL to Bridgewater diner. It looks like they hired every local high school kid in Flemington. When we went here, my boyfriend and I split a thing of nachos (minus the chili) and I had a Greek omelet wrap and my boyfriend had a steak sandwich on a garlic roll. The nachos were below average--cheap nacho dip cheese and not that great. My Greek omelet roll was very good but the home fries were more like hash browns then real home fries. My boyfriend was not impressed with the steak. Service was friendly and attentive consistently refilling our glasses. I would return but we both agree we prefer country griddle's menu for breakfast. read more

I came here with my wife and some family members for the first time the other day. I'm not exactly sure when this place officially opened, but you can tell that it's brand new. Everything is incredibly clean and still brand new looking. When we first arrived, the place was absolutely packed - there were people standing outside. We gave our name and were told it would be about a 10-15 minute wait. Not too bad, I thought. We were seated in about that timeframe. The place isn't as big as I thought it would be inside. We were given our menus and our waitress took our drink menu. Service was pretty good throughout the meal. No major complaints from me there. The menu is absolutely massive and they pretty much have everything. It's your typical diner menu but maybe even slightly bigger. A nice perk is that it seemed like almost everything came with a cup of soup. I was pretty torn on what to get but ended up ordering the reuben. I went with a cup of the chicken noodle soup, too. The soup was actually very good - I was very impressed. The meals came out and they looked awesome. It's also worth noting that the portion sizes are absolutely huge. My reuben was massive and they gave me a ton of fries. I have to say that the fries were great - definitely some of the better french fries I have had in a while. The sandwich was great and they gave you a lot of pastrami - I would easily order it again. Even the cole slaw and the pickle that came with the sandwich were very good. If you're a cole slaw fan, make sure to get it and try it. I really liked it. I would have to imagine that most of the sandwiches are very good here. The menu is huge, but I'm actually looking forward to trying some other menu items on future visits. I will probably go with a wrap on my next visit or maybe even some breakfast food - who knows? It's a nice diner, but my waiter was horrible. He was not friendly at all, and was pretty sloppy. When he was walking with our coffee, it was spilling out all over the sides. He served the food the same way. By the time it was on the table the food shifted to the edge of the plate. Food was OK. Nothing spectacular. I would not make the drive there just to eat. We were in the area so we stopped by. I'd be willing to go there again as sometimes I know the server is just bad. read more

BEWARE OF MOLD. I ordered a florentine eggs Benedict which comes with fruit on the sides. My grapes clearly had mold and when I told the waiter he denied it! He kept insisting that it was the sauce that comes with the eggs but I don't think sauce is fuzzy. Never once apologised but just kept denying it! I shouldn't have paid for my meal, but I ended up paying and never receiving an apology. Disgusting, I will not be returning. read more

It's a diner! It's very clean and the service is fast enough. Not the best service or people but again, it's a diner. Quick meal for a decent price is what you expect and that is what they deliver. Typical diner which has a huge menu but nothing that you would say, " I can't wait to go back and get that!" Not bad, not great either. I really wanted to like this place but I just wasn't impressed. Nice decor. It was still fairly new when we went so we had a 20 minute wait. Got to be closer to lunch time so I ordered a burger (probably should've ordered breakfast) turkey burger was a plain frozen patty(cooked, of course), not much flavor, fries were cold. Never got my soup. The waiter brought out food & never came back to check on us again until we were done with our meal. And then there was the check... We have been long time customers of the Spinning Wheel Diner and couldn't wait for these folks to open a location closer to where we live. If this were a gourmet restaurant, it wouldn't deserve five stars. But this is a Jersey diner and a very good one at that. Very nice inside. A little noisy because of the open design. Prices are about average. Portions are anything but! We have experienced breakfast, lunch, and dinner and we have ended up taking food home with us from all three meals. While all of the regular dinners are reasonably priced, seniors will save even more with a special menu of entrees that include soup or salad as well as dessert. The management and staff are friendly and attentive. NOTE: 8/26/2013. I have reduced my rating just a bit. Dinner entrees could stand some improvement. Any parm dish is to be avoided in my opinion. Chicken is dry. Veal is greasy. Egg plant... Well you can't really find it amidst the heavy breading. read more

I've never went here and had a bad experience. There food is always great cooked perfectly and served in a timely order. I work close by and have went for lunch before and been in and out in 30min. They also have THE BEST waffle fries period. Even when I go for breakfast I still order waffle fries they are irresistible. read more

This place has great potential, good parking and a decent atmosphere but the food and service need work. I ordered 2 cups of soup, both served very messy and lukewarm borderline cold. It happens, I ordered the ribeye it was a GREAT size and opted for a side of spinach and rice. The steak was med rare but lukewarm, sauteed spinach was cold. The rice was nice and hot. Our server was sweet and asked how everything was and I told her the issue, she offered something else and apologized not her fault but detail is important. The prices are extremely reasonable. I will go back and will make sure my food is hot! The steak although cold was still delicious my 7 year old loved it! read more

The food at this Diner is really excellent since the new owners took over about 6 months ago! Everything is made fresh including the calamari which was very tender. The Greek salad is very fresh with a wonderful seasoned dressing. And breakfasts is great every time! Consistently good we highly recommend it! read more

Well my Girlfriend and I finally stopped in here for the first time and let me say Raritan diner is the best we have found since moving out here. The outside is nice more like a restaurant than a diner and is welcoming. As for the inside it is very spacious compared to normal diners, but you certainly get the feel you'd expect. The food was good and came out quick and hot even tho the place was packed. I ended up getting stuffed filet soul sandwich with fries. When I ordered I didn't realize I asked for the stuffed fish but it was still good. I can be picky when it comes to fries and their fries are delicious. She had the chicken Marsala, and for $14 it was much more than we both expected basically three full chicken breasts she couldn't even eat I third of it all. Raritan diner will be our go to diner from now on. A plus!!! read more
