Flower Child is an innovative eatery focused on serving healthy food in Del Mar. Located within Flower Field Promenade, Flower Child offers patrons a large selection of salads, plates, bowls, and wraps made. Not only is all the food made from scratch, there are also numerous vegan, paleo, and gluten-free options. Flower Child is run under the Fox Restaurant Concept, a company that focuses on outstanding food, hospitality, kitchens, gathering places, and vibes. The atmosphere was peaceful, yet fun. After viewing the many different options, I decided to try the Mother Earth bowl. This vegan bowl comes with an ancient grain base, sweet potato, portobello mushroom, avocado, cucumber, pistachio pesto, charred onion, and leafy greens all drizzles in red pepper miso vinaigrette and topped with hemp seeds. The bowl was bursting with flavors and the textures all mixed perfectly. I opted to pay a little extra to add tofu to the bowl. The food was delicious and service was satisfactory. While the food was prepared fairly quickly, my to-go order was handed to me without a bag, utensils, or napkins. Although the food is at a slightly higher price than average, Flower Child serves food you can feel good about eating. I would certainly return to this location! read more

We come here for brunch or lunch most of the time, the restaurant is very trendy and is decorated with lots of flower boutiques. There's a designated kid's play area, lots of shades and seating, so it's very easy for family to hang out. The menu provides healthy dining options, like the quinoa breakfast burrito we get most of the time, it's delicious and lots of great ingredient inside. You can imagine the blonde, bronzed, skinny and healthy (and many wealthy, lucky them!) of North County going there with their progeny for gluten free, fat free, something something. Your coffee will be served in Le Creuset mugs, the lemon dispenser is Le Creuset too...Beautiful good vibes poshland seduced me incredibly! Specially the decor. I am a sucker for pretty places, a coffee in a paper cup is just dirty water. Ambience and presentation are both very aesthetically pleasing. I ordered a Mother Earth bowl with tofu (+4$) and my friend had the Bird is the Word wrap. My friend enjoyed his wrap and I wanted to like my bowl, but the flavor profiles didn't complement each other well and I only got six small slices of tofu. The portobello mushrooms were my favorites; on the other hand, the broccoli pesto and sweet potato were added tastes and textures that did not mesh well with the other ingredients. Super boho and hippie; much of the service is self as drinks, utensils, condiments, and to-go boxes are on a shelf for customers to utilize themselves. Not extremely costly - if anything, you are simply paying for the neighborhood and it's vicinity to the ocean - but price to portion ratio could certainly use some looking into. read more

We came here for dinner last night after a business meeting since it was close by. SERVICE - The cashier who took our order was really sweet and made great suggestions. You order at the register, grab a number, and then find your seat. The restaurant had ample seating and the interior was modern and cute. FOOD The Rebel - This was okay. The steak wasn't super juicy or tender but it wasn't incredibly chewy either. The side salad was tasty. I liked the dressing! Flying Avocado - I got this but replaced the turkey with the steak. I didn't particular enjoy this one because there was a weird after taste to it. Same deal with the steak though as the one above. Mac n Cheese - Not impressed. The noodles were a little over cooked and the cheese sauce was alright. Red Chili Glazed Sweet Potatoes - This was probably my favorite thing of the night. I didn't taste too much of the chili sauce but they cooked the potatoes really well. The food here was okay. Nothing over the top but it wasn't bad. Just standard. I was originally sad to hear that Sea & Smoke had closed but this place is a solid addition to the shopping center. It is very reminiscent of Tender Greens, UP, and Lemonade that have been so popular. INTERIOR (5/5) The interior is so cute! It's decorated with the cutest, hippie but still chic decorations. I appreciate how they have free infused water outside. There's lots of seating on the first level, on the lower level, and out on the patio. Service is very friendly and food comes out in an average pace. FOOD (5/5) + Kale Salad with Salmon (5/5): All of their ingredients are as fresh as can be and are healthy but filling. I loved the combination of the light dressing, the salty cheese, the sweet apples, and the crunchy almonds. The salmon tasted really freshly cooked and was not too overly seasoned. Delicious! + Steak (5/5): I love how soft their steak is. It's much easier to chew than Tender Greens steak and it was cooked perfectly. + Mac and Cheese (4/5): This was more alfredo like than mac and cheese like but the overall flavor was pretty good. + Mashed Potatoes (5/5): Very silky and smooth. No complaints here. + Pomegranate Ginger Lemonade: I don't think their drinks are a must order but this one was definitely my favorite and I tried all of them. It didn't taste much like lemonade but it was delicious anyways. - My only complaint with their protein is that they don't give you much for how much additionally you're paying. I was skeptical at first because a lot of the reviews were of people who received a free meal and wrote a review afterwards. I have seen this place and been wanting to try it and finally got the chance to do so with a few of my friends. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered a kids meal. It came with a few slices of chicken breast and 2 small sides. The mac and cheese was absolutely the best mac and cheese I have had in a really long time (and it's gluten free.... didn't even taste like it)!!!! I am giving this place 5 stars for its mac and cheese. I got some smashed potatoes and they were really good as well. All my friends enjoyed their food so I know that their stuff is really good. I think this place is a little pricey because after you add a protein to your salad/bowl/wrap, it comes to be over $15 per person. My kids meal was $7. The portions are small (for us fat Americans) for the price but I highly recommend this place anyway because the food is really, REALLY, REALLY good. Flower Child is a great little health food joint located in the busy Flower Hill center just east of the 5 in Del Mar. This place has a great menu with a nice selection of salads, wraps and sides. I occasionally come here for lunch and the staff is always super friendly to go along with a chic/lively ambiance. I absolutely love the "flying avocado" wrap as it's prepared delicious and fairly large in portions. I also must give a huge shoutout to the quinoa/corn side, as that thing is freaking delicious. Wash all of this down with their fantastic selection of lemonades and teas and you have yourself a solid dining establishment. I had high hopes for this place since it's really aesthetically pleasing (even the name). I came during restaurant week, so we got a pretty good deal on the food. I think it's a tad on the pricey side, in general, but everything is organic so it's understandable. I got salmon, eggplant, spinach, and brown rice. My salmon was a bit dry and the spinach was as expected. The best part was definitely the eggplant, so I'd recommend that if you try this place. I love this place !! There are so many options for food and the dining area is super cute too. There is a rather large indoor dining area with lots of tables as well as front and back patio seating. I ordered the Thai Dye Wrap with a side of brussel sprouts. Their brussel sprouts aren't as crispy as I usually prefer, but the flavoring is still really good. I would definitely recommend trying the brussel sprouts. The Thai Dye Wrap was so good and had a very clear thai flavor which I appreciated. I reckon Flower Child is busier since Whole Foods closed their self-serve food area. Of the salads, I like the Vietnamese salad. I thought it would taste sort of like the Asian style salad kit they sell at Trader Joe's but I was wrong. Flower Child's Vietnamese salad is more creative because it uses a lemongrass vinaigrette. The spicy flavor of the vinaigrette goes well with the avocado and savoy cabbage. Yuzu brussel sprouts: a nice rest from the usual garlic or balsamic flavored brussels served in most restaurants here. The dish is creamy due to the miso (but not too salty) and the yuzu's lemony flavor is refreshing. Indian-spiced cauliflower: is a lighter alternative if you do not want to eat the curry. read more

I was lucky enough to score a reservation for the complimentary soft opening on Friday night at Flower Child. They are very heavy on the vegetables, but you can get meat or tofu proteins added to the base bowl, wrap, or salad. Everything tasted very fresh, and there were tons of choices, including gluten free options. We were greeted by several friendly staff members, and they explained the menu choices to us. I had checked out the other locations' menus ahead of time, so I had a head start on what we wanted to order. We chose the Sunshine salad with steak, and it was delicious. Arugala with grains, apples, cranberries, goat cheese, butternut squash, and clementines. We subbed the avocado dressing. The Madras curry with chicken was a lighter version of a traditional curry, with more vegetables. Green beans, potatoes, onions, carrots, and raisins in a light curry sauce. Also very good, and not as spicy or intense as traditional. We also tried the 3 kinds of sides, with gluten-free Mac N cheese, and spicy sweet potato with bok choy. All were good! We also had dessert: a GF brownie, and a mini lemon cake. Good, and good! I do wish they had one of the craft soda machines. They have lemonades and teas, but they only have stevia and natural sugar. I hate the taste of stevia. Plenty of seating downstairs, plus patios front & larger in back. The tons of staff did an awesome job wrangling the packed crowd. I was invited to dine here before the official grand opening tomorrow and got an early look at their new location in San Diego. They are located at the Flower Hill Promenade and replaced Sea & Smoke, so the atmosphere looked very familiar to me. This place is huge! It has two stories and outdoor patio seating in the front as well as a bigger area in the back. I absolutely love the cute decor here! It's very vibrant and there was an abundance of fresh flowers in the front of the eatery and single flowers in light bulbs on every table. Since it is a fast casual restaurant, you order at the counter and receive a number and seat yourself. We shared the crushed avocado toast, winter sunshine salad with salmon, forbidden rice bowl with chicken, and The Rebel wrap. For drinks, we tried the Kombucha on tap and a mix of their seasonal lemonades and teas. Our food was ready so fast and all the employees were really friendly and welcoming too! Everything I tried was very fresh, healthy, filling, and delicious. The only thing I didn't like very much was the beef wrap. It had a slightly bitter taste to me. I wanted to get a couple desserts before leaving, so I chose a chocolate chip cookie and an olive oil lemon muffin for later since I needed to head back to work. I had the pleasure of attending a soft opening for Flower Child as research for an article I was writing for a website. My boyfriend and I were able to choose anything off the menu in exchange for our feedback on the comment card. I admit that I was a bit apprehensive at first. The menu is full of healthy options and I've never been a super healthy eater. In fact, vegetables generally terrify me. Thankfully, my boyfriend is a vegetarian and was able to help me out with some feedback on the more veggie-centric dishes. While most of the menu is either vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free, there are some options for carnivores too. I ended up choosing a plate with steak, smashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The latter is actually a gluten-free version, which I don't think I've had before, but it was delicious! I'll definitely be recommending this to anyone who is gluten-free. I honestly didn't know that gluten-free noodles could taste this good! The cheese sauce was incredible and I could happily eat this all the time! The smashed potatoes are mixed with garlic and are super flavorful. While my two chosen sides are probably not the healthiest options at Flower Child, they were definitely delicious and worth the splurge! The steak was very tender and cooked to a perfect medium too. My only regret was not eating all the steak in the restaurant because the leftover steak didn't compare once reheated. My boyfriend ordered the Late Riser bowl, which included eggs, beans, quinoa, chile, salsa, avocado, corn, Greek yogurt and queso blanco. He described it as a healthier version of huevos rancheros. While he thought the flavor was good, he was disappointed in the amount of food. For a big guy, it wasn't nearly enough to fill him up. Even I, a rather light eater, could have easily finished the bowl. The lemonade selection at Flower Child is amazing. I tried a sip of all three to decide which one I wanted to drink and it was a very difficult decision. I ended up choosing the Apple Cinnamon lemonade, which is a seasonal flavor. If you love apple cider, this lemonade may be your favorite too. Their standard Flower Child lemonade, which has a rose petal infusion, is also delicious. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. This place has both vegetarian options and meat options. There is plenty of parking. I got the earth bowl with steak, it was really good. Portions are smaller than usual places. It's a bit expensive but definitely healthy. I also got their seasonal sangria and I was not happy with it. They make it with Malbec and other ingredients but does not taste like a regular sangria. I took it back and the person over the counter was nice enough to add more wine. It was better but still in my opinion the worst sangria I have ever had. read more

I think this was okay, but it was missing the avocado, and the salsa was almost non existent. The shredded white cheese saved the day by giving a little bite to an otherwise boring plate. Madras Curry ( organic potato, heirloom carrot, green bean, sweet onion, cilantro, garam masala, coconut) This was heavy on the crunchy green beans and was full of thick flavorful curry. It originally was supposed to come with potatoes but we subbed that out for more vegetables like green beans. They were very accommodating when ordering. Kids plates with mac and cheese as a side. I liked the mac and cheese, they hated it.. At 6.50 they were a good value. In Summation, if you don't order protein you could get away with a nice healthy lunch. Tho, I still think you'll get more bang for your buck at Tender Greens. Tips - Skip the madness and park in the garage. This is probably my new go-to spot for a bowl! I've always enjoyed the bowl that has the sweet potato, mushrooms, quinoa, avocado, etc. This place beat my usual pick: True Foods' "Ancient Grains." The portion is significantly bigger, that is two people could share the bowl and not leave hungry. I also just found the proportionality of the varying components to be more satisfactory. So apparently "curbside delivery" is just another word for extra parking spaces. Don't bother calling the phone number that you get when you place your order, because once you make the selection for curbside delivery it rings out of service. Basically find a parking spot where you can in a parking lot that's always packed from all of the other businesses in the area, then go inside. Inside there were two people sitting on the bench by the door....I'm assuming they were the people from the two cars in the "curbside delivery" area, just sitting inside waiting for their food. This place is pretty unique with 3 seating areas: outside patio, inside by the kitchen, and downstairs. The patio is rather intimate but the inside spaces would be great for large groups. They kind of have an upscale cafeteria vibe. You order from the counter, then find a table. They have lemonade and tea fountains to choose from. My 5 year old Kid, my wife and I played white elephant gift exchange, pretty much. Poppy's Parfait: I ordered Parfait, which ended up on my Kids table, not sure how. The parfait has perfect arrangement of blueberry greek yogurt, pomegranate molasses, dried cranberry, organic strawberry, banana, flax seed, sprouted almond, toasted oats & coconut chips. The seeds were perfect and crispy. Traditional Scrambled Eggs, my son ordered and my wife grabbed it. potato hash, seeded grain toast. Toast was so perfect with sting of butter in every bite. Despite requesting to substitute the grain for sweet corn quinoa (as I have done multiple time) the server completely disregarded my request, faked checking with others to see if the substitution was possible and ended up overcharging me for the unnecessary side. He then proceeded to ring me up and say "Feel free to tip". The lack of competence and rude attitude ruined what could have been a decent meal. Came here with my mom for a nice Sunday lunch. We couldn't decide what to get, so we split the Green Garden and Yellow Curry bowls. I thought both tasted great, full of fresh flavor. They were definitely on the pricier side, as each cost $11, and $4 for added Tofu. I liked the portion sizes because they were perfect for one person. Normally when I go out to eat there's always leftovers or I eat everything and feel stuffed, but this didn't do that. I finished my meal and was very content with how full I was. The seating area is expansive and very open. There are lots of indoor and outdoor spots, and if it's a nice day I definitely suggest sitting outside. They bring the food to you and they also buss your dishes. It's a slightly more "full-service" than a regular fast-food place.
