We had the pleasure of speaking with Ashley C, one of the managers. We thought she was the owner because of her level of care with the food, the staff, and the customers. It was truly a busy lunch hour and she came to our table to ask how we are doing. We were so engaged in our conversation with her and her wonderful cheery disposition despite how busy it was. She was still able to work with staff, and maintain the flow within the restaurant. Also wonderful was Allan, at the order counter. He made us feel so happy with our choices and our questions about the different dishes. He is so knowledgable and pleasant. He is another reason why we love it here. The food is delicious. Gluten-free Mac & Cheese is superb. I typically get the eggplant dish which was not on the menu as it is likely seasonal. The Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon side salad was tasty but perhaps needed to be in smaller bites, a matter of personal preference. Pickup during Covid was efficient and service was friendly, seamless. My only complaint is that for the price of $13.90 the size of Mother Earth bowl has shrunk considerably compared to my past to go orders. I have eaten it in the restaurant pre-Covid and probably got twice the amount of Mother Earth bowl as this time. The broccoli pesto was about a tablespoon and hardly any sweet potatoes. Although delicious, this left me a bit disappointed. Confession: I've been watching the Jersey Shore Family Vacation. :-0 As embarrassed as I am to admit I've been sucked into something so overproduced and terrible, I can't say that I haven't learned anything from the addiction. They heavily reference this thing called the Keto diet where you get to eat all sorts of fatty and delicious foods as long as you almost completely cut out carbs. I've been doing Keto for over a week now, and Flower Child has been the most friendly menu to the plan so far. Yes, they have several salads that are super low-carb, but the "Plates" portion of their menu is so much more satisfying if you're trying out this regiment. You pick a protein and pair it with your choice of sides. Almost all of the ones on the menu are clean, low-carb, and they even have the option of adding straight avocado which is a superfood if you're on this diet. Price point definitely wasn't a bargain, but the food was really tasty, and they made it extremely simple to order. It's easy to fall off a meal plan because you don't want to be that obnoxious person asking for all sorts modifications. That won't happen at Flower Child though. Not sure how long I'll last with the Keto diet, but as long as I'm giving it a go these guys will be a regular in my lunch rotation. read more

I have been here before/after a Hot Power Fusion class, and I usually sit outside. But today, I took things to go, & the packaging is clean & compact. A creature of habit, it is hard for me to stay away from the "Late Riser," which is this protein-packed egg scramble concoction, containing a splash of yogurt & queso with a kiss of avocado slices on top. While there are a wide assortment of drinks, I go for my usual: "Liquid Sunshine," because who DOESN'T want Liquid Sunshine in their lives?!!! I already feel like ten years younger every time I drink it which makes me about 15 years old @ this point LOL. This is a great place that has lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Upon my last visit, I had the green chile stew and avocado toast which are both flavorful and filling. They have bowls, mix-n-match plate options of veggies, wraps, and more. It's a casual place that has a beautiful indoor space and relaxing outdoor area. You order at the counter and then, they bring your food out to you. The area has ample parking thanks to the garage next to the shops and restaurants here. Excellent food, friendly service. However, the place is simply too loud. We went with my team from work for lunch as the place accommodates everything from Vegans to Carnivores with a really good selection of tasty foods, however, our conversations were drowned out by music on the upper level and the echo acoustics on the lower level. I'd like it a little less noisy, something that could easily be done by choosing some sound dampening materials. read more

The menu at this place strives to be so clean and healthy I feel like I'm detoxing by just reading the specials. 5 stars for that. Be prepared to pay though, for the serving sizes it's pretty pricy (dock one star for that) I guess not as pricy as health insurance though. UPDATE 3/3/2018: After having the experience I did last time, Jess, the general manager reached out to me apologizing and offering to have me come back in. I am so happy she did!! I got the vegan poke bowl and the kombucha on tap. Both were delicious! The poke bowl came with beets, mushrooms, avo, and ponzu sauce. I added some Siracha to spice it up a bit. It had great flavors and felt good in my belly! Jess was so friendly and so accommodating. The staff was also friendly. I also got a salad and a wrap to go. Both got raving reviews! It came on a small piece of toast, not good bread, with avocado on top and a COLD egg. Plus it came out about 5 minutes before everything else. Good thing it was cold when it came so she didn't have to worry about it getting cold while waiting for the other food to come out. It was so disappointing. I can make better avocado toast myself. And it was $7, so over priced. My sister got a green bowl hash and stopped eating it and got something from Whole Foods instead. It needed more salt. I finally got the chance to try this restaurant and I appreciate the healthy food that they serve, but the food was decent for me. I got the Mix 'N' Match with three choices ($9): Yuzu Brussels Sprouts, Gluten-Free Mac & Cheese, Simple Sauteed Broccoli, and added Organic Non-GMO Tofu (+$4). The Brussels Sprouts (with golden miso and thai basil) and the Tofu were my favorite. The sprouts being very flavorful and the tofu being very firm and well seasoned with herbs. The Mac & Cheese pasta were strange. They were small, broken, and mushy. It was good, I just expected the pasta to be different. I don't know why I expected the Simple Sauteed Broccoli to be something special, because it clearly was "Simple Sauteed Broccoli with Parmesan" as stated on the menu. It tasted more like boiled broccoli than sauteed and the pieces were huge, making it hard to eat. Again, I thought the the food was decent. From what I tried, there is nothing I am wanting to come back for, but it's nice to have this restaurant in mind for having healthy vegetarian options. P.S. I've been here twice and each time the experience was superb! The food is absolutely delicious and full of flavor. It's a little on the pricier side, but worth it. Both times I sat on the lower patio with children. I love how the tables are spaced so you feel like you have your own space and can hear each other. Being able to watch the kids play in the play area is just the icing on the cake! The staff is sweet, responsive and accommodating. Tried this place during my time in Newport Beach! It's definitely a healthier option place for those who want to try something more healthy per se. They also have a lot of vegan/vegetarian options as well. I can only attest to their wraps which are really good imo, my favorite is the Turkey Avocado Wrap aka "Flying Avocado" which has a nice hummus dressing in it. I also tried their "The Rebel" wrap, which really tastes like a cheesesteak in a wrap and was honestly really good. They also give you a nice generous salad on the side. Forbidden Rice with Salmon is fantastic! Super fresh, healthy and delicious! The cook on this is usually excellent. Perfectly cooked and moist. Sometimes Salmon gets slightly overcooked or salty, because they get really slammed sometimes, but they are quick to rectify if you let them know. Staff are nice and accommodating. The Olive Oil Cake is also really tasty. Highly recommend this place, I go often. read more

Flower Child in Del Mar has been one of my favorite "go to" restaurants for a quick lunch or dinner. Unfortunately the quality on the last two visits were not up to standards. The food has been overly salty to the point where it's almost inedible. In addition, on my visit today the avocados were literally rotten, barf! We had the "crushed avocado toast" and 2 "Mother Earth bowls", in which all dishes had avocado with very visible brown/black moldy spots. I'm not a nutritionist, but this was clearly not something to be serving any customer. I really hope they get their standards back up and start providing proper quality control. read more

It's my 1st time here and I walked in right before they technically were open (ready to order). The staff was very friendly and told me how it works.
