My Previous Order was subpar. I ordered the steak to be well done but juicy. My steak came out extremely rare. I told the staff and they girl's we're snooty and said I ordered my steak rare. I reinterpreted to them previously that I wanted my steak cook well done as I always have. They did not offer to fix it and I left with raw steak. I have been coming to flower child for five years now. The staff never once told me that I could download the app and accumulate points towards my future meal's. If I had known this I would have had the app from the very beginning. I believe it is imperative that that staff alert their customers about their app and how to accumulate points. Guys.. this is the best place in Phoenix. Period. There is an overwhelming emphasis on healthy all-natural food. You taste it in the bread, the dressings, the soy-based vegan meats and tofu substitutes -- it reminded me of what real food actually tastes like. Just FYI; the place is not strictly vegan but has several vegan/vegetarian choices along with the ability to change anything on the menu for a vegan-friendly option.. I would be amiss here if I didn't remark about the service. The people working here are absolutely impeccable. We asked for a box to-go to a busy waiter who wasn't even serving our table, and he stopped what he was doing, brought us a box with a smile, helped us pack things, and even made sure we had plastic utensils for later. And he did it all with a genuine appreciation for our shared humanity that could only be achieved through a culture of the restaurant that promotes health, well-being, and free expression. We came to Flower Child as a party of 5 with a 16 month old baby. The place has hanging baskets with water misters over them which is good to keep not only the hanging baskets happy, but the patrons who sit outside right next to them. Very nice feature in the desert heat! Inside, the layout is great and can a accommodate many people. We all ordered up front and I personally got the glow bowl with chicken. What's great combination of flavors put together here. I got a hint of peanut mixed with some mushrooms, onions, and jalapeños. A flavor bomb to my taste buds! I also got the black cherry Sangria, which was very flavorful with hints of black cherry and a blend of wines and juices. A perfect compliment to my Glow Bowl. Places like Flowerchild are what make up the "Scottsdale" cuisine I really miss having moved out to New York - so many options for healthy, quick food at reasonable prices with great combinations of ingredients. Not that we don't have spots like that in New York - but something about the Arizona gaggle of restaurants ranging from Flowerchild to Chop Shop, True Foods, and Farm & Craft makes me so nostalgic for the AZ cuisine. A lot of stuff is good here, but my favorite is the chopped kale salad. The apple, almonds, white cheddar, and pink grapefruit make this such a uniquely delicious salad (there's other ingredients too but those are the standouts). I honestly think that's what I ordered 70% of the time I came here. Alternately, the forbidden rice bowl is good. And then there's the easy option to just do a protein and sides, which I probably did most of the time I wasn't getting the kale salad. The Yuzu brussel sprouts, gluten-free mac and cheese, sweet potato, and sweet corn and quinoa are all great options. I actually found the proteins here to be a little bland so I would usually just do veggie only plates if I was doing the plated combo and skip the protein. Service is always fast and friendly. However, this visit redeemed my faith in FowerChild, as I had an amazing employee named Annah help me not only to navigate the menu, but she was extremely helpful in assisting me with my food allergies and how to work around them. The menu is a tad overwhelming, so I had to ask the lady at the cash register where you order how it works. At first she looked at me crazy as if to say "how do you not know?!" Did not have the greatest experience. I was really excited to visit because Flower Child is typically really conscious of food allergies and uses organic food based on the dirty dozen. However, there were very few things that were dairy free, and the only things that were gluten free were salads and rice. Even their broccoli had bread crumbs. When I asked questions about the menu, the host (or whoever was working the front kiosk) was disinterested and quite rude. They wouldn't speak up, so we could barely hear them. The food was decent, but it lacked flavor and the portions were small (especially in comparison to the price). The best part of the place was the atmosphere and decorations. Finally gave Flower Child a try! Absolutely delicious flavor with whole ingredients. I got the Mother Earth bowl with added chicken and the Glow Bowl. I liked the flavor of the Glow Bowl a bit more but both are must haves! The only caveat is their portion sizes are small for their price, especially when they don't include a protein. Both bowls with added chicken in only one came out to $25. I'd still recommend this place as the staff was very friendly and the food didn't take long to prepare. Flower Child is by far my favorite chain in the valley. I love the healthy options and how fresh everything usually is. I've been to this location before and everything was great as great. However, I came in this weekend for Arizona Restaurant Week ($33 for 2 meals, 2 drinks, an appetizer, and 2 cookies). I was excited to see my favorite meal, the Mother Earth bowl, was on the menu! I'm giving them 3 stars because after a few bites of my vegetarian bowl, I found a few small pieces of chicken that somehow made their way into the bowl (can be noticed in the photo, but I didn't notice until I almost ate it!). For a restaurant that seems so conscious of dietary restrictions, I was appalled to find meat in my vegetarian dish and that is very concerning to me. I understand that accidents happen, but cross-contamination like that absolutely should not. On a brighter note, the waitress brought me a new bowl within 2 minutes and apologized multiple times. However, the bowl did not have the same flavor it normally did. Overall, a bit disappointed with this experience but I will continue to go to Flower Child. Man, I'm totally into Flower Child. I'm not a hippie, I love red meat, and I eat sugar, so you can trust me when I say that this place is one of my favorite lunch spots, especially when I'm trying not to be a fatty. For starters, it's gorgeously designed, airy and vibrant, super clean and feels healthy/green just being inside. There is honestly something for everyone, whether you only eat lettuce, if you're five and live of mac and cheese, or if you just want a modest semi-healthy meal--they have wraps, plates and bowls and you can pick your veggie/starch and add protein (chicken, steak, salmon) if you're feeling particularly wild. I love that the options are clearly chef-driven, focused on bold, exciting flavors, and cooked to order. They have fresh lemonades and iced teas with unique pairings. And everything is reasonably priced at a perfect portion...which is USUALLY consistent (clears throat). It's as upscale as a fast casual restaurant can be, health-conscious, sophisticated and it's BRILLIANT. My go-to meal is the yuzu Brussels sprouts and Sichuan green beans PLUS salmon (med-rare please). My toddlers love the steak, brown rice, buttered noodles, and most importantly, the chocolate brownies. Oh and the chocolate chip cookie is delicious. I can't believe it took me this long to visit Flower Child! Everyone has been raving about this place, and I finally made my way over. If you're looking for somewhere to grab lunch after a personal training session at The Village next door, this is the place! The food is light and healthy, so you don't have to feel guilty eating out after working out. I had a pick-three plate ($9) with brussel sprouts, indian-spiced cauliflower, and spicy japanese eggplant. These were some of the best veggies I've ever had! I also tried some of the forbidden rice with shaved beef, which was good as well but quite a bit pricier for the amount of food you get ($15.50). I cannot stress how excited I am to see more healthy places to dine popping up. This was my second visit to this Flower Child. My first experience was a good one and the wrap I had was good as well. This time I was slightly irritated that they open at 11:00 they had people one their patio and what looked to be servers on the patio assisting customers. However, as the line formed in front of us (we were the first ones there) they made sure to keep those doors locked until exactly 11:00 am. We lined up behind all of the people who were crammed up to the glass as we sat in the hightop chairs just to the right of the main entrance. I ended up getting the Mother Earth bowl with chicken. Perfect portion size, delicious preparation and I left feeling fed, not stuffed. The staff was very tentative and took away items that needed to be and asked if we needed anything else. TL;DR: The food at Flower Child is fairly ace. They have plenty of healthy, fresh options, and the chefs genuinely seem to care about the meals they prepare. I've been to Flower Child on more than several occasions, both for takeout and dine-in. I've rarely been disappointed with their fare, but there were a couple of times it ranged from slightly below average to mediocre. Let's be real: Flower Child is a Fox Restaurant. If you're not a privileged WASP, you know what that entails: tacky, corporate interiors, upper echelon yuppies without taste or class, above-average food (and prices). Outside of the food being above average, everything else about these restaurants is spirit-crushing. The service is virtually nonexistant since it's more of a café situation where you order at a register and someone brings your food out when it's ready. Wait times can vary based on how busy they happen to be. They're usually fairly busy. There have been a couple occasions where I waited quite awhile, but nothing too extreme. Servers are always young attractive people, which, that's standard Fox. The portions are small. This can be good if you don't want to overeat; but one feels a bit overcharged, and one could even be tempted to declare one's frustration over such measly portions if one were hungry enough. In any case, they got rid of my favorite dish over a year ago, which happened to be a yellow curry with brown rice. And before that, a mushroom ramen. Since then, I usually order the three entreés deal for $13: mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, and whatever else tempts me at the time - maybe broccoli or green beans. Don't bother ordering a drink or dessert, unless you want to spend around $25 on a lunch for one. But this isn't New York City, so don't be a schlemiel. Got it. Pal. What else is there to say about Flower Child? If you generally like Fox restaurants, give it a shot - it won't disappoint. If you've never been to a Fox restaurant, this would be a good place to start. Clean interiors, quality food. But ugly interiors, and high prices. It's a trade-off.
