When we go to dallas, I enjoy hitting the fried fish places. We usually go to one in Plano but were going to the botanic gardens, got lost, and saw this place and knew we couldn't go too wrong. It wasn't as good as the place in plano, but we probably got a good representation of what this place has to officer. We were early for lunch so it wasn't crowded yet, but it surely gets there. You stand in line to get to a window and tell the guy what you want. He gives you a beeper thing and you head to a table. Beeper goes off, you go get your food, and start eating. They have a side table with extra sauces. I say extra because a cup of each came with each of ours and I wouldn't have needed so much extra if I had known that. Tip: they have some term for a special treatment of their fish or shrimp that means it is the spicy version. I didn't care for it and I love spicy. I wished I had just ordered the normal and spiced it up myself. Decent sized servings and I don't remember feeling gouged on the price. I saw lots of regulars eating there and talked to a guy that goes out of his way twice a week to eat lunch there. I would go back if I was in the area. The location is very family oriented and a great place to bond with friends. The food proportions were reasonable. However, the prices were not reasonable. I had a Shrimp dinner and added a piece of Tilapia fish. The hush puppies were delicious, shrimp had a small amount of seasoning and tilapia as no seasoning. There is limited table service. The way they keep the dining room and kitchen spotlessly clean. The row of employee/customer(?) photos that circle the dining room. The building, the employees, and the customers are glowing with a lust for life, possibly captured from the glorious, shining animals who lost their lives so that we can come to Flying Fish to feast on their tender wholesome flesh. Flying Fish honors these animals by preparing them with zest and care. The sign in the dining room that encourages customers to let a manager know right away if anything isn't right. Something about the place and the people lets me know they take this seriously. The way they shout with relish when a guest orders their dish snappy style. Photos of giddy fishermen and women with their fresh catches. The manager who asked a guest for a sample of his special seasonings. I also like the tacos. The tacos are the life. Get them grilled. The snapper was dry and over cooked. The squash had been sitting out long enough that it was cold. We had rice and beans with three out of the four meals that we ordered. All of them had crusted over on the top because they had sat out for so long. The shrimp tacos had no slaw and the tiny shrimp that were fried were mostly breading, fried in catfish batter (ew) and were ice cold. Not just room temperature cold, but I bit into one and it felt like it has just left the refrigerator. The mahi was covered in so much seasoning that it was caked on and mostly just a salty mess. All of this after ordering a margarita that has a couple of layers of salt in the bottom that made it taste horrible. When I brought the shrimp back up to be remade, there was no apology, no "please go sit while you wait and we will bring it to you". Nothing. For $75, that was by far the worst meal I have ever had in Fort Worth. I wont step foot back through those doors. I don't mind paying extra for things. The service here is friendly, the ambiance is relaxing, the restaurant is clean. It's a nice, quiet place to talk and grab a bite to eat. They have hot sauce on the table, which I love. I always order the Salmon tacos! I've ordered them to-go and dine-in. When I've gotten them to-go, they come disassembled so that they don't get soggy as they are in a hard taco shell. They have like a sort of coleslaw mix, which I would normally not like but theirs is very good, then grilled salmon, and a slightly sweet sauce. They're served with rice and beans that are well seasoned, but of course I load them up with hot sauce. For ~$13 the portion of salmon is generous. I also really like their hush puppies. I love coming here on a cloudy day or a lazy Friday night for the relaxing ambiance and the good food. They have blue plaid table cloths, and fishing related knick knacks all over the walls. They have a well covered outside area with tables and the inside is decently sized. I really like it here! They also have a punch card so after so many visits you get something. I wouldn't know - I always lose my punch card... I wish they would switch to a digital program. Came here for lunch with the hubster, and his brother and his family. Came not very hungry but somehow managed to SCARF down the boiled crab legs which were delish! Must better than Joe's Crab Shack. Husband had the grilled snapper. He said it was mild, light and best of all healthy. Everyone else had the fried catfish; deep fried just perfect with no grease when you bit in to them. The hushpuppies are beer battered and non greasy as well. The banana pudding, however seemed to be mysteriously missing the pudding! Too much whipped cream. They weren't greasy at all & breaded just right. I had a shrimp too & it also was cooked well. I can't speak for any of their other fried items, but it seemed like this place was pretty popular. If you can't find parking, there's more spots behind the restaurant along Vickery heading towards Rosedale. I will definitely go here again. I went to Flying Fish with my husband. He ordered fish tacos and I ordered lightly fried grits with gumbo. Ratings for each Fish taco: 5 stars Grits and gumbo: 1 star or zero... The fish taco was fabulous, the best I'd ever tasted which is why I'm averaging the food to three stars. The grits and gumbo, however, were terrible. There was only one shrimp in my "shrimp gumbo" and the roux was beyond burned and soaked through the remnants of what used to be vegetables. It was probably the worst thing I've ever tasted. I can still remember the flavor of burned. I should have told the manager since they have this big sign saying they'll happily fix any problems with the food but I didn't see it until after I went back up to order catfish and fries since my dinner was inedible. OMG!!! YUM YUM and YUM! This place is not fancy - when busy, hard to find a place to sit - crowded parking lot - but oh so worth it!!!! Catfish is fried to perfection and crispy! They have those yummy thin French fries - hush puppies have a little sweetness to them - just incredible. Fried shrimp is very tasty too! Saw many customers with grilled fish and craw dads - they looked really enticing - we will have to try them when we visit again. After 4 years, I decided to try the food at this establishment along with my girl friend. We ordered take out and were not impressed with the quality of food. We ordered the tilapia fish tacos and the 4 shrimp and catfish valet. I noticed that Creole dishes were served here but I never expected red beans and rice to be alongside with the store-bought taco shells served with the tilapia filets. The presentation was horrid and the condiments did them no justice in preparing the tacos. Maybe the palate of the Texas patrons is accustomed to dried and fried instead of moist and tasty, a taste that is synonymous to fish tacos I have had elsewhere. It was not "bien sabroso" or delicious as described by the cashier. In regards to the shrimp and catfish filet served with the cold fries, it was mediocre to say the least. Needless to say, we will not frequent this location or intend returning to dine with its pricey menu. I enjoy good food and I do not mind paying the price if the food is good, but in this instance, this was not the case. I find the seafood at another restaurant nearby on Camp Bowie to be superior in its presentation, the temperature and the quality of the meal. Bon apetit! read more

A very fun find. This was recommended by my hotel and I almost didn't go. Very eclectic, almost diner atmosphere. Good Louisiana style seafood or you could have it prepared healthier.
