We went here on a Saturday for lunch. We arrived at 11:30 a.m. No line! My partner had the Crispy Catfish Salad, I had the Tilapia Grilled Plate. The catfish was breaded perfectly, and fried with little grease left over. The tilapia was tasty, and served with beans and rice. No 'fishy' taste here. The decor is ironic and tacky, with a ton of photos of people showing off their day's catch. One wall is covered in Singing Billy Bass fish. They pumped classic blues numbers through their stereo system to complete the experience. I noted that by noon there was a pretty long line in the main dining room. It pays to arrive early, though I think the patio will help thin the crowd on cooler days. The line does move fast! read more

They hand you a buzzer that's been handled by 800 strangers, so you have to wash your hands the minute you place your order. When the thing buzzes, you have to pick it up again and go to the front and get your own food; nobody will bring it to you, so you wonder why the help stares at you like, "Where's my friggin' tip, sukkah?" The portions are small for the price, and the price is 20% above their competition, right down the street... with the same fresh oysters and seafood without the cattle car atmosphere for customers... and there are other places to get casual sea food in Fort Worth. I ordered the 1 chicken strip 1 fried catfish filet basket with hush puppies and I substituted fried onion rings for fries. My chicken strip was severely over cooked. Very hard and chewy. The catfish filet was fine but being from a shore town along the gulf I've definitely had better. The fries were old and stiff and the onion rings were also overcooked. My dad took me here last week, and I was somewhat skeptical at first but all doubts went out the door once I ordered and got my food! Our first voyage to Flying Fish. Fairly decent sized crowd for a Weds. Found out that Weds is all you can eat catfish. Three dining areas. Main area, with TVs and lots of old style cafe seating. We didn't find anything there, and it was a bit noisy, so we opted for the smaller area, nearby. Could have gone outside to a covered dining area, but didn't want the breeze. It didn't take long before I noticed a feedback type whistling noise that would come and go. Thought it might have been that song that was playing in the background, but, Nooooooooooo. I walked back to the order counter, since staff makes no attempt at checking on those dining. After telling a guy. He came back, acknowledged the sound and said that he'd turn in down. Sound went down, and so did the irritating noise..... about 20%. About that time I noticed a sign on the wall saying, (something like) "If you don't like your meal, tell the manager so we can fix it now." Again I went to the manager about the nauseating noise. This time he said that he'd turn it off. He didn't. While eating my great tasting catfish, my wife asked how many "hush-puppies" I received with my meal. Let's just say that it was a small litter of hush-puppies (2). They were great, but we each only got two. Lots of fries though. Someone cleaning tables came by and I asked her for another order of hush-puppies. She said, "huch-poopies?" and I said, "yes" figuring that was close enough. The "huch-poopies" must have been picked up by animal control, because we didn't see them the rest of the night. Wife had the oxymoronic "jumbo shrimp" and really enjoyed them. Think of this place as a seafood version of "Kinkaids Hamburgers" with sound that keeps the crowd from getting too comfortable. Good food. Decent price. Self serve on refills. Visited here for first time back in February with family. Got some fried pickles to share, which were good. Daughter got kids cheeseburger, which she liked. I got the 4 shrimp, 1 catfish combo, and really enjoyed it. Could have had a bit more spice, but was well cooked and hot. Iced tea was really good. read more

My all time favorite Grilled Barbecue Shrimp was Horrible here. The shrimp was not grilled, but tasted like left over boiled shrimp that had been doused in barbecue sauce. Do not go for crawfish, it sucks! We were looking for a crawfish place here in Fort Worth so we came here after our first option was too packed. Since we mainly cane for crawfish, we ordered about 16 lbs and several appetizers. The appetizers were fine, nothing amazing. The crawfish, however, was awful. WAAAAAH why are all the good BBQ places closed on Sunday? Since all the ones I wanted to go to were closed we ended up at the Flying Fish. Walk in and wait in line for your turn at the counter while you read the menu located above the counter or on brochures located at the entrance. You can also look at all the pictures plastered on the wall: there's a picture of a person and then underneath it will have fishing stories from that person. Where the hell did they find all those people? This places is all about catfish (fried or grilled), oysters (raw or fried), shrimp, and even crab legs and crawfish. They have a million basket choices that include fries and hushpuppies. I opted for the two filet fried catfish basket and we also got some fried jalapeno chips. The menu says everywhere "make it "snappy" which I assume means spicy but the guy spoke so little English that he couldn't understand the question. Sooooo I didn't make it snappy but maybe you should! Once you put in your order, grab your buzzer and find a table anywhere. The fish was tasty as fried fish normally is and although they were smaller than I expected, they were a nice normal serving size. The fries were just ok, nothing special. I really liked the hushpuppies but I think they could have been a whole lot bigger because I wanted MORE of that fried deliciousness. The jalapeno chips were just slices of jalapeno, seeds removed, that had been fried in what looked like the same batter that the catfish was fried in. I only go here Sundays for .50 cent oysters and drinks. Usually during football season! They have nice corner booths with TVs right above. I was here new years day this year and I was pleased they handed out tiny sides of blacked eyed peas to everyone. Oysters are always good. They have tasty blackened tilapia too. This was the worst meal I have had in Ft. Worth since we moved here.I had the grilled Tilapia it was dry & tasteless. I added alot of lemon to it & tons of salt & nothing helped that poor fish.Even the rice & beans & the summer squash had no flavor.We got there at 6.00 & went to sit on patio to wait for the food & the manager came out & told us we have to be off the patio by 7.00. they had a private party coming at 7.00. So by the time we got are food it was already 6.20. Oh yeah we ordered a bucket of beer.too. We had to drink fast & eat fast with this manger looking out the door all the time. Someone suggested this restaurant who is a total food snob and hates on Fuzzy Tacos. It is worth the drive and the food is really good. There isn't enough parking so sometimes you have to park elsewhere. Once you get inside, it's a setup where you stand in line, place your order, pay,and they call your name. If you want a beer, you grab it when you pay, but I couldn't find a beer opener so I had to bug the busy guy behind the counter. The food is good and plentiful, I always order the fried catfish, but the salmon is good too. One of my friends would wholeheartedly suggest the cobbler for dessert- I think it's the real reason he goes there with me! There is also outside seating when the weather is nice. read more

Kitschy, Cheap, Delicious: this is how I like my restaurants. Walk in and you'll find walls covered in fish with fake wings and fishing memorabilia, you know, classy stuff. We stopped by last Saturday around 9pm and the restaurant was still busy (always a good sign). After approaching the front counter I was immediately overwhelmed with all my options and struggled to choose between Oysters, Crawfish, Steamed Shrimp and Crab Legs, Fried Catfish, etc. I chose the crawfish for three reasons: mudbugs taste good, they're a deal at $6.99 a pound w/corn and a potato included, and it's crawfish season...'nuff said. My mudbugs came out within 15 minutes and I couldn't wait to rip those little guys open and dig in. They were spicy and flavorful; my mouth was ON FIRE. Good thing I had a whole goblet of Shiner to cool down (they have a decent selection)! Peeling crawfish is kind of a lot of work, and even though a pound looks like a lot I was actually pretty hungry after making such a mess. Inspired by the season, I went back to the counter and ordered some crawfish chowder. I can't say I've ever had crawfish chowder before, so I don't have any point of comparison, but I found the soup delicious and lighter than I expected. I was pretty full after my chowder, but third time's a charm so I went back to the front counter and ordered myself some bread pudding. I like to think that Flying Fish requires patron to order from a counter so that we get exercise in between each dish...very necessary, especially if you plan on ordering dessert!
