I have lived in Marathon since 2007 and in 2017 started also traveling to manage after Irma. Food for Thought has always been a favorite place of mine and the owner(s) always kind and helpful. I was in there today looking for a few things and my girlfriend was getting food at the counter...she let a woman go before her as she hadn't fully made up her mind and then stepped up after to order and a taller man came up behind her and just started speaking and ordering over the top of her head. She said excuse me and he shooed her away with his hands and the employee waved his hand at her and said in a min and continued to help this rude man who had literally just started speaking over the top of her after she had clearly been waiting first... The employee's response and not stopping him and helping the person who had been there waiting... I was stunned and disgusted. I did not buy the 100$ plus dollars worth of product I needed and I left as she did and will not return. I will support The Food Conspiracy in Big Pine before supporting a place that blatantly treated someone that way...someone with a local trying to support local business... Very very disappointed .... Would have never thought something like that would have happened there!! Times they are a changing...unfortunate. read more

Great smoothies!! Loved the avocado toast and portobello mushroom burger! Everything tasted very fresh and was made as we ordered.

This is a small health food store but has a surprisingly large menu. The food was great, and the smoothie was amazing!! Highly recommend it for a good healthy, veg meal in Marathon. read more

This became our go-to place when we didn't want to spend $30 a person for fish and fries. They prepared lots of really great vegan/raw foods - had the best gluten-free muffin I've ever had, and really interesting prepared salads. The books they had on display were interesting. So glad there was somewhere like this to go to get away from Publix/Winn Dixie and high end eateries with the same food offered. Really friendly employees, too. read more

Great place with really healthy food! Cafe and shop. I love it! Recommend to all vegetarians. Everything that we have tried was good, fresh, tasty. True life food. No over-salted, over-sugared or overcooked like in most food places in US. I am really happy to find this piece of heaven among Americans restaurants. I wish the same place in Massachusetts. It's okay. My husband and I sat here and did some homework over smoothies and soup. The cafe is pretty good and the staff was freindly. Definitely worth stopping by if you crave a smoothie or lunch. The health food store side is alright, but not great. One of the women running the shop the day we visited was a bit curt and quick to accuse us of unplugging a sign. Uh, okay, lady. We where on our way down from miami to key west for a wedding and since most likely we weren't going to eat anything at the wedding... We decided to stop here... It turned out to be a great call! Cozy cafe/store. I came here on my drive down from mainland FL to keywest craving a green juice. Juice bars are few and far between on the stretch. I got the green juice large which was tasty. Kale lemon ginger apple celery. They had a 10 credit card minimum so I had to pick up something to make up the 2 buck difference. Service was great. Juice was good. It would be nice if they had more of a menu or recipe juices to choose from. Either way The juice hit the spot and I was on my way!! read more

Obsessed with this little place! While on vacation I was in need of a juice and luckily I found this little gem here on yelp. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They have a cute little cafe inside what is a healthy/organic store. I purchased the green energy juice and it was full of tasty vegetables. I felt right at home with a lot of the products they sell at traders joes and Whole Foods back at home. read more

Stopped here on vacation as we were driving through the keys. It was one of the only vegan/'health' conscious restaurants we could find. It did not disappoint! A small operation that is creating some great, fresh, healthy food. We got the hummus wrap, falafel burger, a bowl of soup and smoothie. Everything was excellent. I was very excited to find this place during my trip to Marathon. It is in a shopping center and easy to miss, but they do have an "Organic Cafe" sign out front. In my first visit, I had an Açaí Bowl and my husband had the mango smoothie. Both were delicious! I also bought some vegan muffins for later- mint chocolate chip and berry- and they did not disappoint. I do not eat dairy and also eat pretty clean at home, so after several days of grilled fish and french fries (the only non-dairy side at Marathon restaurants it seems), I was ready to come to Food for Thought for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the remainder of my trip! In my last night, I was determined to eat a healthy dinner and arrived at the cafe shortly before closing. I did not catch the chef's name, but he was so friendly and was nice enough to whip up a to-go order right before they closed for the day. I had a hummus wrap with a side salad, and a cup of the potato leek soup. Everything was fantastic and I was a huge fan of their hummus! The portions were very generous and the produce was fresh and tasty. I also had to grab another vegan muffin for breakfast the next morning. If you like fresh juices and smoothies, this is a great place to come. If you care about the quality of the food you are eating, even on vacation- this is the place! I will definitely return when I come back to the Keys. Added bonus- they have a natural foods market inside also. Lots of organic and gluten free staples, fresh produce. This was a great stop for my family on our drive out of the keys. We ate a lot of key lime pie and heavy seafood during our trip so we were looking for something lighter and healthier, and Food For Thought was perfect. It has a casual atmosphere (it is located inside a health food grocery store) but the food was great! We had the falafel burger, hummus wrap, avocado toast and two specials (black bean burger wrap and quinoa curry stuffed squash), and enjoyed them all. I was super excited to run into this vegan friendly cafe in Marathon! The cafe/store was clean and organized, and staff there were kind and personable. The menu is completely vegetarian, and most items are vegan (or can be made vegan upon request). I ordered a green lemonade and a portobello burger, both of which came out in a pretty good amount of time. I really enjoyed roaming around the store while waiting for my food, and I found some pretty neat goodies! The green lemonade was super good, and the kale and celery in it were not overbearing whatsoever. The portobello burger was solid, though it could definitely have used some more flavor and the bun became very soggy almost immediately. The burger was served with a side salad that I really loved, and I ended up getting a blueberry muffin afterwards that was super yummy! I'll definitely be coming back! read more

Cool. It's all good. No problem Very healthy and tasty vegetarian/health food cafe. Smoothie at $11 stopped me a bit but it did have a lot of stuff in it and tasted good and cold after the beach. Until the other restaurants in Marathon figure out that fish is not healthy if it's fried and serves only with fried potatoes, this is your best bet for a vegetable fix. read more

Thank you for being an alternative to high priced, neutral-quality food joints frequented by the majority of tourists. My finicky kids sucked back a couple of smoothies while I had the tasty walnut 'meatball' wrap, and bought some bars from the well stocked shop. I'm visiting the Florida Keys for my best friends wedding. Marathon Key is a beautiful place but not many options for vegans unless you go all the way south to Key West. Food for Thought saved my life! Super low key (get it) joint. Book store, health food store with a small cafe nestled in the back. It was awesome to not be looked at like a wack job when asking for something with no meat or dairy. Helpful staff made recommendations and made me an americano w/ almond milk. Food for Thought met and exceeded my snobby New York vegan standards. Definitely check this place out and support people who own progressive businesses. read more

In a strip mall along US 1 but an absolute gold mine in the world of roadside fried fish & BBQ....huge list of smoothies and make your own. Vegan, soy, regular, bananas, mangos, raspberries. Espresso bar and what looked like a great selection of salads, soups and sandwiches - all the freshest of fresh. Great respite from the typical heavy, fatty breakfasts with all the same energy and satisfaction for a day in the sun! Definitely worth seeking out! read more

We live in Fort Lauderdale and decided to spend Thanksgiving on Fiesta Key. I really want to love this place, but I just wasn't feeling the love while there. Honestly, the food is delicious and I loved perusing the store. In fact, I dropped almost three hundred dollars during my visit. I found one of the staff members very friendly and helpful, but the rest had bad attitudes (especially in the cafe) it really turned me off. After much time and care and selection of trinkets, oils, and supplements I unfortunately had a bad reaction to one of the supplements I purchased. When I called the store, the person I spoke with sounded mildly annoyed and confused, as if to say, "and what do you want me to do about it?" Again, attitude I found quite disappointing especially in the face of such a delicate situation. I specifically said that I had not had any luck getting in contact with the manufacturer, but that I would be in the area the following month I would like to return the barely used product. The response I got was very wishy-washy. I don't think the woman really wanted to say whether or not my request would be honored or denied and asked me to call the next day to speak with the owner. I know this place is in the Keys, but this isn't the Stone Age. Under the circumstances, I was interested to know what their policy was, but she could provide no information to me about this. Again disappointing. So, I walk away feeling as though this place has no problem taking whatever money I want to give them, but should I have a problem I'm left disappointed, confused, and taken advantage of. I guess I could always do what the woman on the phone suggested and just give the supplement that I had a bad reaction to, to a friend. Because that's a really good idea... And the twist.. The manufacturer I was trying to get in touch with contacted me. Their first concern was whether I was OK or not, if I had received any medical attention, and wanted the batch number of the product so if there was something wrong they could pull it from the shelves. So in the end, I'm walking away with the refund I asked for and a sincere apology. Customer service lives! read more

Innovative food using healthy ingredients. Had the vegetable soup which was flavorful and had nice chunks of veggies in a puree "broth". Hubby had the faux meatball wrap and I had the pad thai wrap. They had gluten free wraps as well. Excellently flavored so it did not require my usual hot sauce dousing.Juices were fresh and tasty. Also the latte was perfect..yup we ate gluttonously. Simple decor in the health food store which was also reasonably priced and stocked superbly. read more
