I've been meaning to try this restaurant since it was featured on one of the news channels, I believe possibly FYI Philly; so I saved it in this app. Our hotel was within walking distance so we tried it out. The waiter seemed a little bit snobby which would've been fine if the food was actually great and there was a bigger menu. We went for lunch there were very few things on the menu so we figured well they must do the things that are actually on the menu well and neither of us really particularly liked our burger. The role was completely saturated in grease and it was over salted. The restaurant itself was beautiful. I have noticed the quality just about everywhere has declined recently due to covid issues so this is actually probably one of the better places to go. read more

Fork is such a vibe. If you want a laid back, cool but a fine dining experience, this is your spot. I love the dimly lit ambience with a bar in the center. The service is impeccable and the menu drool worthy. We started off with a beet salad with spiced cashews and ricotta. It was a good starter. Next we had the focaccia bread with onion jam. I love it because it was not dry and a good doughy texture. The onion jam consisted of caramelised onions. The octopus was probably the best dish on the menu and we almost did not order it and were so glad we did. It was charred and seasoned well and also had a hint of lime. Wild rice was our main and nothing wrong with it, but would probably not go back for it again. It was my husband's birthday so we ordered the coconut custard and the flourless chocolate cake. Loved the cake- very rich, decadent and just perfection. The coconut custard was slightly lumpy and a little underwhelming. I only eat halal and kosher meat so was super sad that I couldn't try the burger. It sounded amazing. But overall, very happy with our experience. Made reservations for a rainy Saturday night at Fork for my boyfriend and I. Restaurant was pretty full, dim lighting, very romantic vibe. We had the house tasting menu, which comes with a starter, pasta, entree + dessert. We got the oysters + sweetbreads (very juicy and flavorful!), gnocchi and bucatini, bouillabaisse (to die for!) and lamb, and the pain perdu + panna cotta. Everything was absolutely wonderful, including the wine we ordered. Service was super attentive and polite. We were the last couple in the restaurant and did not feel rushed at any point to leave. Went here for a date yesterday. The servers were attentive and knowledgeable. They really knew their wine. My date and I were used to Franzia (don't come for me, okay?). So our server recommended a wine that paired with both our meals and we got a bottle for the table. Not a wine connoisseur, but I remember it being red. I had the lamb & sausage, date had the red snapper. We both enjoyed our entrees. Can't speak for his food, but saw he finished before I did, so it must've been good. My lamb & sausage was amazing. Lamb was not gamey-tasting, tender, and well-seasoned. Sausage was smokey, salty, herby without being overpowering. The dessert menu looked great, but alas we both opted for coffee to power our night stroll around Old City. Maybe next time :) Would highly recommend Fork and would go again! read more

I can not rave about this place enough. From the service to the food to the ambience! Started with the charcuterie platter with fresh bread. No cheese on this board but the home made pates and meats were fantastic. The chef then surprised us with a visit to the table where he brought two items that he was "working on." What a treat. One was a buffalo heart which looked like pastrami. And the other was mushroom roll with truffle salt I believe. Both were fantastic and we devoured all of it! Then for the main attraction. Prime rib for two. There were 4 of us and we ordered two. Completely overboard but we ate the majority of it. Cooked to perfection and full of flavor. Finished the evening with dessert coffees and after dinner drinks. Three hours of pure bliss. Not once were we rushed or felt like we were taking too much time. I held my sister's bridal shower at Fork something like six or seven years ago (lovely), but we'd never actually eaten a regular meal there. So when I was home visiting, we went out to dinner with my sister and her husband at this kind of "historic" place for my family. I remember the food during her shower being great, and the food during our dinner was equally so. We started with some oysters - they were fresh, well-shucked and generally pretty good. I did wish there were maybe some more varieties, but they were good. We also got the tartare (which was really unique in presentation and lovely) and the foie gras appetizer because I love foie gras. That was also very good (but should be served with more little cracker things). For dinner, the table was divided. My brother in law and I both got the filet, which was really delicious and well-cooked. It was served on a very small bed of some roasted veggies like carrots and potatoes. Team fish was on the other side of the table - my sister and my husband. She got the salmon, he got the halibut. Both reported the fish was excellent but I have to say the portion sizes were pretty tiny and I think they had some ordering envy. Team steak definitely won on that one. We totally would have done dessert but we have a tradition so we went down the street to the Franklin Fountain instead. But the dessert menu looked great too. Service was very good. Had a dinner here to celebrate my friend's birthday in April. First thing's first: the food was great. My party ordered Whole Wheat Miche and Local Cheese Shaded Platters for appetizers. I ordered Rohan Duck (picture attached) and several of my friends ordered the Dry-aged Burger and Fries, and Seared Scallop and Squid for entree. The dishes were not lacking in flavor; I think they were seasoned very well and my duck was cooked to how I like it done, which is medium rare. The quantity I received for my duck was satisfactory for its price. Though I wouldn't say the same about the shared platters: the flavors were spectacular but the quantity was lacking. The server specified many times that the whole wheat miche only had 3 slices of bread and insinuated that there would be an additional fee to get more bread. I think that was ridiculous and I don't think the restaurant would go bankrupt for providing more slices of bread. Overall: Flavors/Taste: 5/5 Price-point: 3/5 Quantity: 3.5/5 The food was great, but I can't say the same about the service. We mentioned to the server that we were interested to do the Dry-aged Grass-fed Ribeye for the table, and she was initially nice to give us more time to think about how many pounds to order. However, we changed our mind and didn't want to do it anymore. When we let her know, her demeanor and attitude slightly changed as if she was annoyed. She didn't give off a friendly, open vibe overall that night. It felt like she was looking down upon us when we didn't order more food and alcohol and/or more expensive dishes in general. She still gave us a bare minimum of service, but it left a bad impression and an unpleasant experience. I also found it weird that she didn't ask how I like my duck cooked, as I had been asked in other restaurants previously. The duck was cooked to how I liked it, which was fortunate, but it's another testament of the weird service. I like to give the benefits of the doubt, but I'm writing a review of how my experience went that night and it could've been better. A factor could have been our young appearance, but that's just bad best practice if it was; that's ageism. So, Service: 1/5 P.S. I do want to note that there was a lady who was dressed like the supervisor/manager of the place who tried to be friendly and struck a conversation with us that night. It's safe to assume she was the manager. I appreciate her efforts but the damage had been done. She took pictures of us at the end though, so go her. The ambiance was perfect for a date night! It was dimly lit with old-school fancy decor/look but it was a little simple and boring for my liking. I'm indifferent. It's one of those fancy dinner vibes that I'm very well used to, so it didn't wow me. The location is in Old City so you'd best get uber or go early to find parking. What an overrated restaurant. I'm actually appalled that his restaurant was recognized (or at least the owner of the restaurant) was recognized for a James Beard Award. I came here for brunch because of all of the buzz this restaurant was getting for brunch (ie Eater) but I was extremely disappointed. 1. I asked for a refill on my coffee to one of the waiters. He continued to pass by my table and ignored my table without providing a refill. It was only the extremely kind hostess, not the waiter who I asked multiple times for coffee, did I ask and she was extremely helpful and was able to get me a refill. This entire process took at least 20 minutes. 2. The waiters are not attentive at all. There's like 10-20 waiters here for only about 5 parties during the time I was here for brunch and they were all standing around and talking without paying attention to any of the customers. Also, see point 1. 3. The food isn't that impressive. The steak and eggs were decent but for some reason the jus was really sweet which was really surprising. The eggs were overcooked and tasted like scrambled eggs on my steak dish but because we had timed parking at the Bourge parking garage it wasn't worth resending the dish back, although we really wanted to. Overcooked eggs is a big no-no. The French toast wasn't terrible, but definitely not the best French toast I've ever had by any means. It was a hefty portion for the price but what a disappointment. 4. Parking garage is validated at the parking garage around the corner which is really nice and probably the only positive note. read more

I had been to Fork once before, during their 20th anniversary celebration, for their "20 bites for 20 years" menu - everything was outstanding! So I was super excited to return for a work dinner recently. Everything was outstanding again! Even 5 years later. Ambience: 5. Seriously. So. Beautiful. High ceilings. Old, wood bar in the center. Perfectly lit, not too loud, intimate booths/tables with plenty of space between them. Service: 5. From the moment we walked in until we left we were well taken care of. Food came out quickly but not too fast - we had plenty of time to have a conversation in between courses. Food: 5. Really just SO excellent!!! Shared the brussel sprout starter, and then I had the monkfish. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned (I am one of those salters... and this did not need a single grain of salt). Portion size was also great - not overwhelming, but I was definitely full. Desserts (we tried one of each) were also great! Wine: 5. Wine list felt pricey? But glasses were reasonable and bottles based on glasses seemed more reasonable. We did not try cocktails (work dinner, remember?). I am already looking forward to my next trip to Fork! read more

We enjoyed a nearly perfect birthday lunch. Our server - John K- was attentive and well informed and his recommendations were spot on. The ambiance was classic rock (Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, etc) meets vaguely eastern woodland abstraction. The food was off the chart. Their sparking water is carbonated in house, a good thing. Our first course was the beet salad - delicious and surprising in that persimmons were included with the arugula and a refreshingly light dressing. For mains the birthday girl enjoyed the Steelhead Trout with roasted? Cauliflower and a cauliflower purée, which she thought exceptionally delicious (and moist!) I chose what turned-out to be one of the two or three best burgers I've ever had! Two dry aged patties with caramelized onions and lots of raclette- on a fresh, in house baked bun- wow, every bite a party! But wait, there's more. We weren't really hungry at this point, but everything was so spot on, we ordered the recommended Coconut Custard for dessert- what a lovely and delicious surprise - which I could describe, but will not, so that you may enjoy this incredible treat without knowing what tasty bits are beneath the perfectly glazed meringue. All in all an exceptionally rewarding dining experience even if Philly in general is going through a period with more boarded-up buildings than one would hope for. read more

One of my absolute favorite restaurants in Philadelphia and a definite must try. I've been here 3x now, most recently for my birthday celebration and their Christmas Eve Feast of Seven Fishes special. Ambience: We're always greeted promptly by the front host(ess), and COVID precautions are maintained with mask wearing, proof of vaccination, etc. They have indoor and outdoor dining. Indoor dining has an intimate mood lighting with table side candles. Reservations are highly encouraged, but they do have a bar as well. Their open kitchen in the back is really quite beautiful to watch. The bathrooms have hand sanitizer and a nice wrist handle to open the door. Service: Always so attentive, and even the owner can be seen walking around greeting tables, serving dishes and engaging with guests. I always feel so welcomed here. We've had drinks before and they even split the wine into two glasses so my guest and I could each sample them separately. Most recently for the Feast of Seven Fishes: Oysters - so smooth, so flavorful Clam toast - such a surprise, one of the highlights Uni & apple - the apple really stood out as something fresh and light Scallop crudo - definitely fish forward Brioche loaf - a bit heavy, but it was interesting to try the smoked butter, maybe a bit too sweet Monkfish liver terrine - not my favorite, a bit too bitter/pungent Spanish mackerel crudo - a pretty large serving of the fish mid dish Fried smelts - nice and crisp Whole branzino - TO DIE FOR - I could eat this for days without getting bored. The lemon, the wild mushroms, freekah and capers all just paired together so nicely. The whole fish was so beautiful. It just melted in your mouth and you could just keep going in for more bites. The final desserts with the Buche de noel and Christmas cookies actually tasted so good the day of and in our takeaway container for the day after, (maybe even better as a leftover). It just had the perfect amount of rich chocolatey goodness. Other times I have been and tried their Octopus appetizer and Duck/Sausage dishes - I've also been thoroughly impressed. The octopus is so smooth and tender, it's absurd how easy it is to eat through it. The duck/sausage entree packs a good meaty flavor and leaves you satisfied. Fork is a fantastic and beautifully decorated spot in Old Town. We made a reservation for dinner and were seated just a few minutes after arriving. Our server was very friendly, and service was great. We elected to go with a few small plates to share and didn't regret it! The half dozen oysters--Marasheen Bays from Newfoundland--were perfectly chilled, very fresh, and had a lovely brine. The scallop crudo was just lovely; there's a light spicy kick to balance out the citrus (which isn't overwhelming but may be a bit much if you're very spice sensitive). The celery root soup was very well done, and the flavor of the wine really came through. The spatchcocked quail was a delight--it's lightly grilled and well cooked, but might be a bit salty for your average patron. The "Asheville" cheese is basically a baked chunk of a Camembert-esque cheese, and it's very nice, if a bit light. And, to wrap things up, the basque cheesecake was a delight--beautifully crisped on the outside but rich and light on the inside. The seating area is just gorgeous, too. It's an open kitchen concept, but that doesn't translate to a noisy or hot experience. The locally sourced ingredients are matched by the forest theme, reflected in the small shrubs on each table and the beautiful forests painted on each wall. Hadn't been to Fork in over 20 yrs but I can see why it's had longevity. Our server Rodney was fantastic- right level of wit, knowledge and attentiveness. I had the squash soup- it had a tartness which I enjoyed, plus I liked the addition of Thai basil. I got monk fish and the portion was huge- sat atop buttered leeks and came with roasted veggies. Dessert was a delicious coconut custard. The only downside was a ridiculously week coffee- seems to be a trend in the reviews. The host attended to other parties who were leaving, without telling us anything like "oh, let me attend to these guests and get back to you". We were eventually seated and our coats were checked. (Yes, we had reservations.) Our food was generally so-so. The non-vegetarian plates were very good. The vegetarian plates were subpar. Weird spices / textures, generally very unappetizing. Service as a whole was very slow. Waiting to give our orders and to get drink refills for some time. Asked for a specific drink, was given a different more expensive drink and charged for it. Total bill was $300 for 2 people. Appetizer, shared bread plate, main entree, 3 drinks each and dessert. Does anyone have anything bad to say about Forks? I've loved this place since my first meal there during restaurant week many moons ago. I still remember the bartender, and the lesson he gave my girlfriend and in on wine tasting and selection. I'm sure he's probably long gone by now but I recently returned to Forks for a dinner date after a long hiatus, and my experience was still very pleasant. Disappointed. The attention to detail expected from the establishment such as Fork was simply not there. Since it was brunch, maybe the A-team was not in the kitchen. Here are my gripes: - for whatever reason, fried kale was added to my charred broccoli appetizer. I am not a fan of it to begin with, and it was greasy. The broccoli florets were bigger than a bite size, but since they were almost raw, I had a hard time slicing them with the knife provided - my partner's soup was OK, but $14 portion was for the birds - my partner's burger was good, but the french fries were over salted to the extent he barely touched them. - the fish collar for my main was served with fin attached. Not a problem in itself, but the fin was crispy, small and sharp bits and pieces of it broke off and were floating freely in saffron broth between couscous pearls. Did not enjoy fishing them out and since the dish was served in a bowl, it was impossible to move inedible pieces to the side. There was a small improvisation on the part of the kitchen yet again: the dish was served with charred broccoli, rather than charred onions as the menu stated. OK, I get it: broccoli is great for my health, and I should have a lot of vegetables in my diet, but I do not love it to the extent that I would commit eating it for every course of my meal. l hope the kitchen did not run out of onions. - wine was good, but charging retail price * 5 is a bit too much. - 20% service charge was automatically added to the bill. I have so many praises to sing but I want to keep this review really concise and elegant which perfectly describes this restaurant. The service is impeccable. From the hostess to the bartender to the waiters everyone was so attentive and displayed lots of foresight into what you might need or want. I went with a group of friends who were visiting from New Zealand and they were blown away. As was I. We did the chefs menu so all the dishes were left up to the creativity of the kitchen but nothing disappointed. The food I would describe as classic yet inspiring. Overall, a pretty nice evening. Positives: -the appetizers were fantastic!!! They were large, flavorful and unique. -the waitstaff was friendly and attentive -the outdoor space was quaint and comfortable. Negative: -the actual entrees were small and the mackerel was extremely fishy. It was hard to get any flavor that wasn't the deep sea. Additionally the pork rib and sausage was just that ONE single rib and some small pieces of sausage. With such great apps this was a slight disappointment. -the cocktails only had four options which were all quite sweet and unbalanced. None of us (and we got all four) were impressed. What a memorable and delicious experience! We had an amazing dinner here the other night. We enjoyed a warm welcome and had superior service from our waiter, Matt and the manager who checked in several times on our group. The owner Ellen even stopped by to see how our night was going. Went to Fork for a post-graduation family lunch! My parents are big fans of French food (myself not particularly) so I chose this place for them. Ended up being very happy with the choice - my dad who's rather picky normally loved it! Pros: - Servers are very nice - they noticed it was my graduation without me saying anything and gave me a complimentary drink! - I ordered the salmon dish for lunch and the fish was cooked perfectly! For our first course, our party shared a cheese plate appetizer and charcuterie, both of which had lovely and surprising flavors! For our second course, we ordered one of each of the 5 entrees and shared around, as everything sounded fabulous and we all honestly wanted to try it all. The tilefish was prepared perfectly and had a fantastic texture and flavor profile. The pork chop had great flavor, but we found it just a smidge dry. "I'll leave that to you." was her response... Fork Restaurant at 306 Market St. has long been on my "List of Restaurants to Try!". Fork is a "farm to table" restaurant with a menu that changes with the seasons. Fork locally sources all of its ingredients. The Chef, Eli Kulp came to Fork from New York City in 2012, when Fork owner Ellen Yin offered Kulp the opportunity to run his own kitchen in Philadelphia. Right away, Kulp earned a 2013 Star Chefs Rising Stars Award. In 2014, he was named a Food & Wine "Best New Chef." In 2016, he was nominated for the James Beard's "Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic." We arrived at Fork at 5:30 and were seated at a table for two, as the concrete bar in front of the open kitchen was full. We met our server, Rodney as he brought us a seeded Roll with Smoked Butter. The Butter had such a mysteriously wonderful and familiar flavor... I had to ask what it was! I ordered a Vodka and Tonic with Lime and Dana ordered an Iced Tea as we surveyed the menu. We decided to share The Scallops Crudo. The raw, Scallops were marinated in Passion Fruit, Blood Orange and Ginger. They were dressed in Caviar... They were SOOOO GOOD! The sweetness of The thinly sliced and marinated Scallops was a wonderful contrast to the savory taste of the Caviar. The flavors seemed like they were meant to be together!, Rodney, recommended a Loureiro White Wine from Aphros, Portugal. It had a bright pale yellow citrus hue and a fruity flavor that complimented the Scallops well! We then shared a Pennsylvania Whole Trout. It was cooked with Caper Brown Butter and Baharat,(A blend of spices) It was served atop an Israeli Couscous, Carrots and Greens. Rodney recommended A White Sauvignon that was the perfect pairing! The whole Trout was sliced and easy to eat. The Baharat Spices tasted a bit like a blackening mix and allowed the fresh Trout flavor to shine! The Israeli Couscous was the perfect base to contain the flavors of the seasoned Trout. We savored every bite! I should preface this review though by saying that if there was an option for 3.5 stars I would have chosen that - I kept wavering back and forth between a 3 and a 4 but felt our experience fell short of a 4. So we came here for an anniversary dinner and decided to go all out with the chefs tasting menu. My boyfriend started with some sort of pear salad and I started with the peekytoe crab salad. I'd say this was my favorite dish of the evening. It was very fresh tasting, was packed with a ton of crab and just the right amount of acid. The pear salad however had a type of green that was really hard to chew and was kind of off putting. We then had the gnocchi and dry aged steak tartare. The gnocchi was pretty good and was my boyfriend's favorite dish. The tartare started off really promising until I got a bite with a TON of wasabi/mustard that I immediately felt up my to my nose and proceeded to make me tear up at the table. I feel just a tad of wasabi was enough to make the dish a bit different but that amount was not warranted. For the main dish he had the pork belly and I had the scallops and uni dish on top of mashed sweet potato. The pork belly was cooked well but I found it hard to fully understand how the sweet potato went with the scallops and the uni and so this dish missed the mark for me. For dessert we just had the sorbets which were fine. The service was good but we were kind of confused when our waiter switched on us really early in the beginning without any explanation or introduction to our new waitress. We had a bottle of wine that was placed on the cabinet next to our table and my boyfriend and I actually had to have a discussion about whether we were allowed to pour our own wine since my glass had been empty for a while. A little history...our evening started with reservations at a competing restaurant. Trying to get in earlier, our plans were foiled and we attempted to eat at a 2nd restaurant. As customer service was clearly not their strong suit, we were fortunate to get a seat at Fork. It was the best mistake ever. Ever. The service was impeccable. When we initially walked in, the host sounded like he was waiting for us to arrive. His demeanor and hospitality put us in the right frame of mind. Ellen Yin, the owner, was so hands on...she literally brought an amouse bouche and one of our dishes. The drinks were incredibly well created. The decor and hospitality were absolutely top notch. The food? Whatever small bite we were served was explained so intricately, so perfectly, you knew what it would taste like before it hit your mouth. It was the perfect start to a meal. Ms. Yin deserves extra praise for her attentiveness to detail. The opening bite was fresh, robust, and creative. Our mushroom tempura was light and refreshing. The 5 mushroom combo offered a variety of textures and tastes. The duck 2 ways with pasta was INSANE....the pumpkin spice burst through the delicate pasta like a 7 year old at a toy store. We shared a burrata that was so out of this world it should be called Neptune. The cheese was so light and delicate, a cloud should take notes. The scallop dish was so perfectly cooked it should be illegal and offensive to living scallops. I'd be scared out of my mind. Overall, a misstep lead to one of my more memorable Philly dining experiences. Can't wait to come back. And again, much respect to Ms Yin for her approach and vision.
