Went back again and he tells me to take it to a general mechanic to figure out if I need a tie rod or not. Anyways I just saw Shack and he let me know my bearings in my axle are bad, yeah the one I got from AutoZone. So he basically told me to replace the axle first then come back for an alignment. Unfortunately, I received no phone call or email beforehand letting me know, so I made the trip unnecessarily. I was rescheduled for 8:00 AM the following morning. I arrived on time Friday, but it took approximately 3.5 hours to install and balance my tires. While waiting, I also observed several interactions between the service representative and other customers that I felt were unnecessarily rude and defensive. Two customers ultimately left without having their vehicles serviced. The representative did apologize to me for the long wait when it was time to pay, which I appreciated. However, after two appointments, poor communication, a 3.5-hour wait, and the overall customer service I observed, I left very disappointed with the experience. I understand that delays happen and businesses sometimes get short-staffed. My biggest issue was how those circumstances were communicated and handled. There are other automotive shops in Vallejo that I would feel more comfortable giving my business to in the future.

As soon as I parked, one of the technicians came over to greet me. I told him I was there for an oil change, and he asked if it was my first time visiting. When I told him no, he asked if I wanted the same service as last time. I said yes, and he replied, "Have a seat in the lobby, and someone will be right with you." I really appreciated that he already knew my service history and got straight to the point. It made the check-in process quick and easy. I waited in the lobby for no more than three minutes before my name was called. That actually caught me off guard because I had forgotten they already had my information in their system. The advisor confirmed the service I wanted and let me know it would take no more than 30 minutes, which I thought was a very reasonable wait time. The lobby is on the smaller side, but that's not a big deal since they only service three or four cars at a time. There was a TV to watch while waiting, along with complimentary self-serve water, which was a nice touch. The only part of my visit that left me with mixed feelings was at checkout. After my oil change was finished, the technician asked me when I had last had my brakes serviced. She mentioned that my brakes felt unusual when she was moving my car. Since I had my brakes done about a year and a half ago, her comment made me wonder if something was actually wrong. I asked how much a brake inspection would cost, and she explained the price and mentioned it also included a tire rotation and would only add another 30 to 40 minutes. Based on what she told me, I agreed to have it done because I didn't want to take any chances. When everything was finished, she told me my brakes were completely fine. While I was relieved nothing was wrong, I couldn't help but feel like I had been talked into an additional service that I probably didn't need. I'm not saying she intentionally tried to mislead me, but the way the conversation was presented made it seem like there was likely an issue with my brakes, and that concern is what convinced me to authorize the inspection. I think the experience would have felt much better if, after finding nothing wrong, there had been some acknowledgment that the concern turned out to be unfounded whether that was waiving or discounting the inspection or simply apologizing for the unnecessary worry. Instead, I left feeling like I had paid for a service based on a possible issue that didn't actually exist.

Gil is super attentive and very honest. Less than a week ago, I took my son's car to Gil. It is a 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid that needed a catalytic converter. Rather than take the job, which costs a decent amount of money, Gil asked me, considering the age and mileage of the car, if we really wanted to proceed with the repair. He said the Honda has two catalytic converters and, while the second unit did not register as defective, there is a good chance it will soon. So, we decided against fixing it. In my book, that is a remarkable trait for an auto shop owner to possess. He will not say what the customer wants to hear, like how soon the car will be ready, just to get their business. When he says the car will be ready at a certain time, it usually is. In fact, I do not remember him ever missing a completion date/time.
