I was really hoping this would be a great new spot. We went for the first time last night and tried it our for dinner. There was about a 30 min wait for our table but that was totally fine since we didnt have reservations, and we were happy to grab some drinks at the bar. Like most places there are good things and bad things. First the good: - Bartenders made really good drinks - bar lounge area is really big - it has an open kitchen which i always like The bad: - too bright at night. Dim the lights! Feels like a cafeteria - we went on a sat night and no music was playing. Feel like they should have some kind of background music on inside and on the patio. - we were sat out on the patio, and service was super slow out there. Our waitress was friendly but next time i think we will for sure sit inside - the food we ordered was ok at best. Steak was over cooked and enchiladas were really dry... - The decor, uggh..it inspired me to yawn...they 'remodeled ' before they opened but its a shame they didnt put much effort into a creative design...it looks like they just repainted the place then went to pier one imports to furnish it,. Overall i know this place just opened so I'm sure they will work out some of the 'bugs', we will most likey be back to give it another shot but will sit in the lounge read more

My husband and I just moved into La Quinta less than a week ago. We stumbled into Fortun's Kitchen + Bar based on convenient parking. Ambience was fine and very PS old school. Service was fine until the food came out. I ordered Vegan Pizza and tater tots for dinner. My husband had clam chowder soup for an app and the chicken plate for dinner. They food came out like this: His clam chowder soup and my tater tots and pizza all at the same time. I commented the pizza coming with his soup was a surprise. I finished the three pieces of pizza and half the tater tots and was done. He had long finished his soup. While we were waiting for his main dish we realized they may have made a mistake on the chicken and I asked the waitress where his main course was. She said she was sorry for the delay and blamed the kitchen/chef for the mistake. A second waitress came to the table and said it was our servers fault and she didn't hear the order. (We told her there was a detailed discussion with our waitress between the chicken and another item on the menu and she helped my husband decide on selecting the chicken) We waited 20 MINUTES for his dinner to come. And fyi, I was lonnnnng done with my dinner when his finally came out. (Total buzz kill on a dining experience) Other than a weak apology, there was never any other compensation. I was certain they would take the chicken off the bill or at the very least, offer a free desert. I mean..... I finished my meal and my husband sat there starving. HOW DO THEY NOT OFFER COMPENSATION FOR SUCH A HUGE SCREW UP? I work in the service industry and when there was NOTHING to compensate, I was angry and floored! What BAD business! It was CLEAR we were not happy about the screw up and they did not care we walked out upset. I will NEVER go back to Fortun's restaurant. Side bar...... I gave two stars because the food was very good! Bummer because we most likely would have eaten there on a regular basis. read more

The crowds, the modern, sleek decor, the snazzy bar without a standard piano nearby, and the comfortable, cool ambiance will raise your expectations. Unfortunately the food doesn't rise to the same level. It's fine for a bite... but nothing special. The thin crust Neopolitan style pizza is probably the best choice on the menu. Burnt Ends another solid bet. Onion soup is generous with cheese. And the wedge is tasty and well presented. Otherwise manage your expectations. They are a bit understaffed, so expect somewhat of a wait for drinks, orders, check. Main Street Grill down the block slightly better. Both don't match the quality of Daily Grill in Palm Desert, the best grill in the Valley... with Kaiser's a distant second. read more

Enjoyed a fun evening at Fortun's. Started with appetizers that included fried artichokes, brisket, and pizza. All were delicious! So much so, our group ordered seconds. I ate so much I did not order an entree. However, my friends ordered the salmon, mac & cheese, a burger, soup, and chicken pot pie. All were very pleased with their selections. I did order dessert. The coconut cream pie is fantastic! Server was pleasent and attentive. Chef and Owner stopped by our table to ask if all was good. Atmosphere varies, cozy bar, and nooks near the wood fire pizza oven, open and airy (the ceiling actually retracts to reveal the sky) in the central area of the restaurant, and nice outdoor seating in the front. Don't order the Wagyu Burger. It was our first time here and it would have been pleasant if we weren't sweating inside the place. I asked if their A/C was out and they said no. I asked waitress if they had a Rose' and she said no. Then I looked at menu, table top specials and bar wall and they had 3 Lol! She needs to know their menus. The Wagyu Burger didn't taste any different then any regular one and the patty was way too thin. The pizza was nothing special. I was hoping for that puffy charred look and taste being that it's "wood fire" cooked but was disappointed. It tasted the same as Whole Foods one or the one at Enzo's right next door. The chili was not great but cures your craving. Honestly the best thing was the Burnt Ends. I'd come back for that. I was a little mad the cornbread was cold. The 4 of us had dinner here. The burger was greasy with no taste of things promised on the menu. The Hen of the Woods mushrooms were tasteless. With so many mushrooms to choose from Mitake are not a good choice. The arugula became stringy after the hot burger was put on top of it. Very difficult to eat. Again, once you heat arugula it losses any pepper flavor it might have had fresh. The rotisserie chicken was good. The salmon was good but very small in size. Service was good. Would I go back, no. I've had better burgers in a lot of places and this wasn't one of them. I shouldn't have to contact Jen to get a good meal . Sorry but a good burger is not rocket science. We really enjoyed our dinner here last night. The hostess was very accommodating; changing out our bar stools to high-backed chairs. The place was nice and cool, which is much appreciated when it's desert hot. I had the Ruby martini (I think??) and it was tasty. Split a burger and fries with a friend and it was delicious! Did not care for the Caesar salad at all and it was pretty pricey for what it was ($11). They were nice enough to take it off the bill for us. My friend really enjoyed her spaghetti bolognese. Came here on super bowl night & I thought it would be extremely busy, but to my surprised it wasn't! it was perfect. I had the Hawaiian pizza, which I'm not a big Hawaiian pizza lover, but this one was delicious! There was some confusion when we arrived. The hostess said the bar was open seating, but then said she was holding a table for the managers friend so it wasn't totally open. And then she strangely said you needed to put you name on the list for any of the high top tables in the bar area. But our experience improved after that ... We sat at a community table and it wasn't as unromantic as anticipated. The wait staff (especially Marco) were busy but attentive. The head chef was working the floor and ensuring everything was ok. We had a reservation for US Thanksgiving . They placed us in the bar instead of the restaurant (which had lots of empty tables ).The bar is noisy with lots of tv's. The meal was good, but we had to order off the minimal bar menu as the regular menu was not available. There was also a special Thanksgiving menu for $55, which we declined When I asked if I could have a piece of pumpkin pie( on the menu included with the Thanksgiving dinner) they told me it would be $10.95 for a piece of pie.. Ridiculous! As a relatively new restaurant, you would think they would try harder. I will not return. They have a lot to learn about customer service!!! read more

Our family of four enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving dinner here at Fortun's Kitchen. Our server was fantastic even though it was a very busy night for the restaurant. The pre-fixe Thanksgiving menu offered something for all. My sentimentalist selected the Turkey entree - he couldn't help himself as it was well - Thanksgiving. Although, had it not been the special holiday of turkey indulging, he might have opted for something else as Turkey is really hard to pull off on a large scale. All is forgiven for the dry Turkey and stuffing as everything else was perfect and fun! Two of us opted for the prime rib dinner... top shelf all the way. Temperature and seasoning were spot on. Our last guest - an adult on the autism spectrum- couldn't really find the right thing on the set menu- and our server went above and beyond to accommodate our gal with a kids menu which saved the day. As mentioned, our service was well above what we expected and a true pleasure. We enjoyed the wine list with options for every palate from California wines to French and Italian choices. While hubs and I were not on the same page for wines - they had many exceptional bottle choices! We both opted for by the glass choices so we could pair with our entrees and not have to compromise on a one-size-fits-all wine. We will definitely return. It arrived not cooked as ordered. Two people disappointed. Two of ordered the chicken pot pie, they arrived with a nice , puffy crust . First bite below the crust and both pot pies were cold. Both sent back to me he kitchen. Two more disappointed. Wife ordered the shrimp scampi and artichoke. She is now sitting in the toilet with the after affect. Disappointed. Slow on refill of drinks . My first time wasn't impressed at all. Bartender very unfriendly and took his time knowledge me, maybe because was by myself?? Finally when he decided to take my order I order the Caesar salad and the short rib. It was ok bartender never checked if I was ok or the food. The only good thing about the place, was a lady behind the bar giving little free samples. I think was a margarita she never mention what it was. Couple next to me having chili did look good. Went to Fortun's on February 3rd with a party of 4 - We all ordered drinks which were pretty good. After we finished our drinks we had to flag down a busboy to get the waitress to order another round. We all ordered dinner, 45 minutes later nobody received their food. Once again, we had to flag down a busboy to get our waitress and find out where the food was, she apologized and 3 of us got our order 20 minutes later. My wife ordered chicken pot pie and that never came out. We all finished eating and my wife said forget the dinner, It's been hours and I still have nothing. The manager came out to apologize, said they were short on help and they would comp my wife"s dinner. I said how can you comp a dinner she never received? That's all she offered, so we said can you comp one of her cocktails and she reluctantly agreed. The food that we did get was pretty good, but I've never had worse service. Came here for dinner Friday night . Patio was packed but got a good seat inside to watch the hockey games. Hostess was super nice and got me seated right away. Just went with a large group of friends this week. (First visit). Love the location, easy to get to. We started out sitting inside at two big tables that they had setup for us, but because it was louder inside we asked if we could sit outside. They were so accommodating and had the table setup in minutes without any fuss whatsoever. The food was great, didn't hear any complaints from the our group. Myself and some others had the Chicken Pot Pie and it was delicious! The menu was very nice, and the prices were good. Service was fantastic! If you do have a larger group I would recommend reservations. They were very busy and this was on a Tuesday. The atmosphere was very nice inside and out, very hip and modern decor. Inside is like a sports bar with the TV's & tall tables. We all agreed we will be going back to this great restaurant for a fun evening! read more

Words cannot describe the flavors in all the food...from the appetizers to the main course. Chef Keith was incredible cooking my filet to perfection. First time I did not have to complain or send back. I recommend the beef stroganoff that we shared as an appetizer...melt in your mouth beef checks...OMG...I never chewed it just melted. Owner Kevin Fortun came to our table and made our night we will never forget! Oh btw the roof opens up to the beautiful stars...details of this place are incredible!! Cannot wait to visit again!
