The food was amazing, and the service was great. Our food was plated in a very cute manner. Our spicy California roll had a swan made of cucumber and oranges, and after eating our dragon fly roll we saw that the cucumbers formed hearts with a carrot butterfly resting on an orange flower. Adorable! Appearance aside, the food tasted great and came out quickly. Our server was super attentive and very kind. Overall a great experience and can't wait to return to try other dishes!

The food was incredible! I got a lunch sashimi bento box that was delicious. It came with super thick cut sashimi, and was a lot of food for the price. Great lunch spot!

This place continue to be fantastic, a great sushi happy hour choice. I wish there were more alcoholic offerings for HH, as I'm not big on martinis, but still the food variety is great. This time we started off as usual with an avocado bomb and heart attack - these are must order items!! Then we tried 2 new things - the spicy pork bulgogi lettuce wrap, which were very great and a nice way to vary up what we ordered, and for sushi we decide to try the Oakley Dokey. This roll was good but I think I still prefer the Firecracker off the HH menu - although there are a few more I want to try that I haven't yet that could change that. Service during happy hour has always been good and quick to get food out. Definitely the most affordable and delicious sushi option that I know of in the area!

Amazing sushi and service, the vibe was nice and there is a nice patio you can sit at and enjoy the music from the chop shop. Location is perfect and parking was easy. The sushi was very fresh we will be coming back for sure

I'm a fan of Fosters. I've been here now twice I think and it has fresh sushi and tasty. Had love at first sight roll and some sake salmon. The martini I wasn't a fan of but. Everything else was excellent and service was good.

Fosters is a hidden gem amongst downtown Roanoke. They have great selection of rolls and appetizers. The servers are very helpful and the Sushi chefs are absolutely dialed in. The panfried dumplings are some of the best i've ever had. They also have hibachi on the menu as well, which is very nicely priced. It's in a great location and the inside is clean and nicely decorated. Give it a shot the next time you're craving sushi.

I like that they have combinations (e.g. filet mignon&chicken). We loved the filet mignon. The chicken was a little dry both times we have ordered it; ask the hibachi chef for some of the teriyaki sauce on the side. I am not a shrimp fan, but shrimp in their yum yum sauce - holy cow! I am seriously considering ordering shrimp and scallops as my meal next time, because the seafood in yum yum sauce is amazing here. The staff is super friendly and readily accommodated my husband's endless requests. (Can I get mine with a double portion of fried rice? Two soups instead of soup and salad? A dish of that teriyaki sauce on the side?) Our favorite hibachi chef is Antonio. He was creative, friendly, and jived well with the family extroverts. The interior looks classiest after dark because of the lighting, so we will make a habit of coming more often in the winter. In the daylight it's just all right. The noise level and seating arrangements may make it difficult to have a conversation with more than one or two other people at your table, which is common in a hibachi restaurant. There was also a vent in the exhaust hood that rattled loudly over my head the whole time, but we were still able to carry on a conversation between four of us when we brought my husband's parents. Overall a decent choice for a good hibachi dinner.

If you've been wanting to try this place, I'd definitely recommend arriving early. Parking was probably the most challenging part of the visit. There was a rummage sale happening nearby, so the area was busier than usual. They do have a designated parking lot, but it's very small and fills up quickly. Most people will likely need to rely on street parking, which took a little patience that day. The restaurant itself is tiny, but that's part of the charm. There's a bar area that seats around 10 to 12 people and only a handful of tables. We were a party of three and were seated right away, but I could see larger groups having a harder time finding space together. The tables are also on the smaller side, so once the food starts arriving things can get a little crowded. That said, the food completely lived up to the hype. Everything we ordered was delicious. The chicken karaage was crispy and flavorful, the marinated ribeye was tender and packed with flavor, and my favorite dish of the night was easily the beef yakisoba. We each ordered a starter, three skewers, and a side that our server recommended, and every plate disappeared quickly. The atmosphere felt lively and busy, with Japanese figurines and decorations displayed throughout the restaurant. I overheard another guest mention that it reminded them of places they had visited in Japan, which made me appreciate the attention to detail even more. One thing to note - we were told they don't split bills, which wasn't a problem for our group, but it's something to know ahead of time if you're dining with friends.

Overall, I did enjoy the restaurant, but I think you have to go into it with some insights that…read morewould've been much appreciated if I had them prior to going. First and foremost, the bill cannot be split per an item ordered by an individual. You either split it equally, or it's paid in full. I went to dine with two other individuals, and we all ordered without knowing this which was rather confusing when the check came. Next, while they recommend what you order in select categories, be aware that your food is not going to be coming out in the order with which each the categories sit. We were getting items that were listed in the third category, so what should've been eaten prior to dessert before we got any of the yakitori. The location is downtown so be aware of parking, I recommend coming early, or when they open because it gets full quickly we got there at opening, but there was already a line to get in and eat by the time we were leaving. The restaurant is also relatively small, so leave what you can in the car. We didn't have anywhere to place purses so I ended up sitting with mine behind me. It was also difficult because the plates didn't fit on the table as they brought them out because we weren't eating in the course order. Lastly, remember the name of everything that you get. I ordered mushrooms, shiitake, we got mushrooms dropped to the table, but they weren't the correct ones and that seemed like a bit of an issue. The food was good, I would say the best part was definitely the yakitori, and the main dish items. I could take or leave the appetizers, the tonkatsu wasn't memorable for me, it tasted like the meat wasn't seasoned enough with salt and pepper prior to coating in flour and breadcrumbs. I also think the tonkatsu sauce was a bit bland that sat on top of it and it's something I prefer to have on the side. The highlights my meal were all of the yakitori, I enjoyed the chicken breast, soy ribeye, and shiitake mushrooms. I also liked the beef yakisoba, it's nice that they had the Japanese mayo on the side of it. I think when that's included, it always adds a nice richness. I was also a bit disappointed with the yuzu lemonade since it didn't have dried citrus in it, I'd seen prior. I thought about getting the high ball, but that was because I like the look of it overall so I was happy I didn't. If my friends wanted to go back, I would, but I don't think this is something I'd seek out

Though everyone who ended up being sat after me were immediately taken care of. I ordered the sushi and sashimi bento box. I sat at the sushi bar so I was able to watch how things were prepared. Everything comes out quickly, as all of the proteins are pre sliced and ready to go. They were busy and the turn around is quick. They also do a lot of to go orders, and those were stacked up by the front door. I thought the quality of the fish was good for the price. I really liked the ginger dressing that comes on the salad, though it is a wild color. The gyoza just tasted like frozen dumplings you can buy at the store, and then deep fried. But they were good. The rice was cooked properly, and not mushy at all. The only thing I didn't care for was the California roll. It was super goopy and just tasted like mayo. I had to leave that alone. The atmosphere is very noisy and if you are sitting at the sushi bar, you hear the constant beeping of their order machine. I may try them again for dinner if it is a bit quieter, or takout seems like a good option, though there is no online ordering on their website.

We had a reservation, which I'd definitely recommend because it gets busy especially on a Friday and parking is limited. Once we were seated, the server gave us a nice rundown of the menu. We also ordered calamari, which arrived a bit later. It was okay, nothing spectacular, not as crispy as I hoped but the rest of the meal more than made up for it. For sushi, I had the Spicy Atlantic Salmon and the Kani Koi. I absolutely loved the Spicy Atlantic Salmon...it was definitely a favorite but my fiancé preferred the Kanikoi, so everyone wins. We also tried the Kamasu - Barracuda, which was just as delicious. Overall, everything was perfect, and I can't wait to come back to try more hand rolls and a few other dishes.

I base sushi restaurants off of these 1 simple rolls. It was good, but for the price... Prices- very high. The simple rolls were much higher than my normal sushi spot (almost 50% higher), & the rest of the menu was well over $20+ & up! I'm way too frugal to be a sushi connoisseur Service- it was great. Eric did a great job, very friendly, & kept my water filled up. The host was very friendly as well (forgot his name, had a cast on his hand), & as well as the woman who told me they no longer served the açaí bowls Environment- very upscale. Definitely would be a hopping place to go in the evenings. It's a dark restaurant, so it's got great ambience, but I could see it being a loud place as well for something that is as fancy as it is. I will go back when I'm in the mood for sushi (which is rare), & will update this review once I try out a different roll or entree

I made the classic mistake, as usual, of eating the takoyaki while it was still pretty hot. Despite the burns to the inside of my mouth, it was definitely worth it. The karage was was absolutely delicious as well. Perfect amount of crunch with moist chicken on the inside. Pairs very well with the spicy mayo that is served on the side. I enjoyed my bowl. The hubby liked the pork broth in his bowl, but the pork belly on top was tough. We also got appetizers. The Japanese pancake was crispy, but greasy. The fries were good and not at all greasy and dusted with a touch of spicy Asian inspired seasoning. They were OK. The ramen portions are large, so that was nice. Service is very good here.
