We walked right in and were given a table right at lunch time, just as promised. Alex our server was fantastic, so helpful answering all our questions and filling my water bottle for me. The food was a delicious experience! The waffles were so light and crunchy, the chicken was so crispy and tasty. Best waffles I've ever had, truly. The salad.....was a symphony of flavors and textures. Tomatoes, grapes, Kalamata olives, date halves and pecorino cheese shavings all together in the lettuce, with corn bread and biscuit croutons? Yes please! The plates I saw passing by our table made me want to come back for more.? This was a recommendation from a delightful DC regular I met on the plane. I'm SO glad we went in! It was quite busy when we went in, so a little loud in there, but it was relaxing and enjoyable just the same. We arrived this morning right as Founding Farmers was opening, in hopes of getting a seat on the patio without a reservation. Lucky for us we were seated almost right away! The staff was very polite and willing to help us make menu choices. We decided on biscuits and beignets to start: the biscuits are huge, in the south we call them cathead biscuits. They were perfectly baked and delicious with a side of gravy. The beignets were light and tender, accompanied by a chocolate sauce, caramel sauce and raspberry sauce. The raspberry was the best accompaniment!! My egg scramble was wonderful, I subbed the cheddar cheese for goat cheese and it was a solid choice. Everyone's food was delicious, the coffee is strong and the service was quick. A wonderful place for breakfast or brunch in the city. read more

The hashbrowns needed more of a crunch to them, the sausage was okay, the jam was really good but overall the breakfast was just okay. I went here for Restaurant Week in January 2023 and it was a great deal! I got the Brie Farm Bread, Steak and Enchildas, and Death by Chocolate (with vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate ice cream). The Brie Farm bread was excellent! Crispy toast, bold flavors, and a large serving size for an appetizer. I would definitely order one of their farm breads again. The Steak and Enchiladas were good but not mindblowing. The steak was marinated in a chimichurri-esque sauce. My girlfriend got the seven cheese macaroni and it was too bland and not very enjoyable. However, we split the Death by Choclate sundae and it was to die for. I would highly recommend it for dessert! Apparently they churn their own ice cream. The service was good. The ambience was a little noisy since the tables are close together and families witch children can be loud. Overall very solid brunch/lunch spot. Some menu items are better than others. read more

My husband and I are big fans of the farm to table style meals, so while in DC this was a must try. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was excellent. Our meal was delicious, my husband noting the mussels were the best he's ever had in America. I do wish the vegetables I had were cooked a little more as they were firm, but that's just a personal preference probably. However, my steak was cooked perfectly. We also enjoyed the crab dip and spicy tuna wontons. I got one of their seasonal cocktails which was delicious and fresh, and their house made candy bars were incredible. We'd certainly go again when visiting, or to one of their other locations. read more

Anytime I'm in DC, Founding Farmers is my first stop! I would suggest making a reservation if you plan to go on the weekend because there is always a wait. I've been here several times & each time it was as good as the last. The staff is always welcoming & friendly enough thou I can tell it's challenging dealing with the crowd this restaurant draws in on weekend. They do a good job, just be patient it's worth the wait. One of the reason I perfer Founding Farmers over most of the other restaurants is DC, is that you can taste the difference in the food when you're eating at a farm to table restaurant. Everything taste fresh, no processed meats, if I'm not mistake all of their condiments are made in house as well. If you're a fan of good quality food, great service all packaged up in a beautiful decor, this is the place for you. read more

We sat outside and it was such a lovely dining experience. Our waitress was so nice and patient with us. We never felt rushed. The food was also very delicious! Artichoke and crab dip: 9.5/10 This is better than any spinach and artichoke dip I have had. It is so good. I only wish it was a bit more crispy on the top and the bread was crispier and not as soggy. I highly recommend this dish!!! Corn bread skillet: 8.5/10 Lots of talk over this cornbread, and it was good! There is so much corn in this bread you will have a corn kernel in every bite. It is super moist on the inside and it doesn't taste too sugary and sweet. I just think that overall even though it's good, the taste itself is very strong. I don't know how to further describe it. Yankee Pot Roast: 9/10 Yum! This dish was surprisingly really good. There was a massive chunk of meat but it was so soft and juicy. Combined with the crazy and mashed potatoes this dish is like a warm hug that you didn't know you needed. Highly recommend! I wish there were a few more chunks of cooked vegetables. Tuna Poke: 8/10 I don't know if I'd consider this poke but more of a Chinese Sesame Tuna Salad. The salad part is mainly cabbage, which isn't very good. There should have been more chips because I don't want to eat a bowl of cabbage. The tuna was a little too minced, which is why I wouldn't consider it poke. It was more mashed. It was refreshing but not what I was expecting. Overall, this is a great place to go at least once! Classic American staples that are very homey and delicious. read more

Being new to the area, I am still getting my footing but my friend who is a native urged me for months to try this place! The food was to die for! I had the chicken and waffles! The chicken was seasoned to perfection and the waffles had the perfect blend of softness and a crunch. The chai latte was the best ive ever had; perfect amount of creaminess with the perfect amount of spice. We made a reservation and were seated right away. Our server was awesome, he was super knowledgeable about the place and food being offered. Caesar salad was a little above average. What really sold me was the "cornbread croutons" which was a little false advertising in my opinion. When you think croutons, you want the texture element. Here, it was just soft cornbread pieces which didn't do much for the salad that was already soft. You needed that texture. The hot crab and artichoke dip had chunks of crab and artichoke in it, but heavily lacked seasoning. Salt and pepper was needed at the very least and that would have made all the difference. The spicy sausage mussels dish had an awesome base, but again severely lacked seasoning. SALT & PEPPER PLEASE!!! The sauce it was in was broken as well, so very oily instead of a consistency you'd want to bathe in. Honestly what I ended up doing was combining both of those dishes on the bread and it was DELISH then. I can say this place was good enough to come back, but not good enough to choose over other restaurants in DC...as there are a lot to discover here! read more

We came here for brunch and overall it was ok. Although the staff was friendly, they didn't really seem on top of things. First of all, our food took over 30 minutes to order. Also, we didn't have utensils and basically had to ask for them. My utensils were super hot, probably because they had just come out of the dishwasher. I also had to separately ask for a spoon since I got a yogurt bowl. The food itself was very mediocre. We got a yogurt bowl, eggs and toast, and chicken and waffles. The yogurt bowl was ok, but could have at least been chilled. I also got a blueberry muffin, and although fresh out the oven, could have been better. The eggs were ok, but the bread had an odd texture. It felt like it was reheated in the microwave or something. Knowing that we needed reservations for this very popular DC restaurant (just look at how many reviews this place has), my husband and I checked in with the hostesses when we arrived. Since we were early, we were told we'd be texted when our table was ready and were free to go to the shopping plaza across the street. We did just that, got our text at our reservation time, and checked in again with the hostesses, who told us to step to the side and our table would be ready in a few minutes. The lobby on a Sunday morning there is very crowded, with people constantly arriving and getting in line for a table. After a good 30 minutes, my husband went back to the hostess stand and checked on our table only to find that they'd listed us as NO-SHOWS! Yes, we should have checked on our table earlier, but we didn't, assuming they were just so busy. Anyway, they seated us right away after the error was pointed out, and from then on, we had a great brunch experience. Our server was fantastic, the food was delicious, and I'd definitely come back here. For my beverage, I ordered "Today's Rickey" which happened to be cherry, apropos for cherry blossom season. A rickey has lime juice, seltzer, and today's syrup (cherry)--so refreshing and not too sweet. My husband and I ordered some biscuits to start and those were tasty. For my entree, I had the Chicken Pot Pie, which was a deconstructed version, with the filling separated from the "pie" part--so good! My husband had the Fried Chicken and Waffle, also good, especially the mac n cheese that come with the dish. I can see why this place is so popular; there were several large parties and it is definitely a place I would frequent for special events if I lived here. Threw back an old fashioned or two while at FF last week. I'm pretty sure I could have made it three, but the service outside was just a bit on the slow side. I appreciate a bar that utilizes a large block ice cube in their whiskey creations. The lemon twist was unexpected, as usually an old fashioned features an orange twist I didn't hate the change.
