For food I ordered the Founding Farmers Breakfast- two eggs, veggie patty, hash browns, 2blueberry pancakes. The founding farmers breakfast is customizable so there is definitely something for everyone. For vegans the Veggie patty has brown rice, black beans, beets, green bell pepper Seriously great service, Sanovia treated us exceptionally well! The service here was decent, bathrooms clean, restaurant clean Maybe we picked the wrong food choices. I ordered a side of carrots and they were rock hard. The glaze on them was good but they were severely undercooked. I appreciate the carrots are heirloom- light white in color, not orange but the pieces were unevenly cut. So many were super thick and undercooked I was able to jab a knife in them and it stayed upright. I am not sure if that's how they are supposed to be.. but I've never had roasted carrots that were raw but warmed over with a glaze. My partner took one bite out of the hotdog and had to spit it out. It looked so good but he said the hot dog was mushy, the texture was unlike any hot dog he's ever had before and he could not stomach it. The fries were good, though! My son had the chicken and waffles with mac/cheese and green beans- now that delicious! I highly recommend that dish. We all ate off his plate and ours sat. We didn't feel the need to complain about our food or try to get it taken off because maybe that's how it was supposed to come out and we made the wrong food choice for ourselves. We arrived this morning right as Founding Farmers was opening, in hopes of getting a seat on the patio without a reservation. Lucky for us we were seated almost right away! The staff was very polite and willing to help us make menu choices. We decided on biscuits and beignets to start: the biscuits are huge, in the south we call them cathead biscuits. They were perfectly baked and delicious with a side of gravy. The beignets were light and tender, accompanied by a chocolate sauce, caramel sauce and raspberry sauce. The raspberry was the best accompaniment!! My egg scramble was wonderful, I subbed the cheddar cheese for goat cheese and it was a solid choice. I'll start by saying that I am willing to give them another chance. The good... hostess was friendly and even though we were late for our breakfast reservation they got us in pretty quickly. Ambience was great and we were happy with the feel of the place. The not so good... we ordered the classic French toast and the breakfast tacos. Within 3 mins of placing our order our food was delivered! Presentation was a little lacking, both the French toast and tacos were lukewarm. Also since our food was out so fast, our drinks didn't arrive until we were almost finished with our food! We were a little parched. Luckily there was water on the table. I have never been to founding farmers. I asked our Server Jorge what he recommended. He recommend the prosciutto bread. It was fantastic! For lunch I had the beef bugoo. Founding Farmers seems to be known for being overpriced and pretty mid (and full of tourists) and unfortunately my visit last week confirmed that. They used to be known as a restaurant with a large menu that could accommodate almost any tastes, but that's sadly not the case anymore--when I first went six years ago there were many clearly labeled options on the menu for different diets, but this last time, ordering plant-based was a real struggle. No dish on the menu is plant-based as-is. Apparently even none of their breads are vegan, which struck me as really weird. I was the only vegan diner in my group but no one else was too impressed with their dishes either. Hope they reconsider their menu. The extra star here is for the staff, who seemed quite busy but tried to be accommodating and helpful despite the menu! read more

I went here for Restaurant Week in January 2023 and it was a great deal! I got the Brie Farm Bread, Steak and Enchildas, and Death by Chocolate (with vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate ice cream). The Brie Farm bread was excellent! Crispy toast, bold flavors, and a large serving size for an appetizer. I would definitely order one of their farm breads again. The Steak and Enchiladas were good but not mindblowing. The steak was marinated in a chimichurri-esque sauce. My girlfriend got the seven cheese macaroni and it was too bland and not very enjoyable. However, we split the Death by Choclate sundae and it was to die for. I would highly recommend it for dessert! Apparently they churn their own ice cream. The service was good. The ambience was a little noisy since the tables are close together and families witch children can be loud. Overall very solid brunch/lunch spot. Some menu items are better than others. read more

Anytime I'm in DC, Founding Farmers is my first stop! I would suggest making a reservation if you plan to go on the weekend because there is always a wait. I've been here several times & each time it was as good as the last. The staff is always welcoming & friendly enough thou I can tell it's challenging dealing with the crowd this restaurant draws in on weekend. They do a good job, just be patient it's worth the wait. One of the reason I perfer Founding Farmers over most of the other restaurants is DC, is that you can taste the difference in the food when you're eating at a farm to table restaurant. Everything taste fresh, no processed meats, if I'm not mistake all of their condiments are made in house as well. Found this place from a Google search for best places to eat in Washington DC, and Founding Farmers was the first on the list. I made a reservation online for 6:30 since that was the soonest available for a party of 3 after leaving the Capitol around 5ish. We got there just before 5:40, and they checked us in but said we would likely be called closer to our reservation time. To our delight, we were seated by 6. Our server, Victor, was lovely. He shared that the restaurant is a farm to table establishment which is owned by (I believe) either a farm in North Dakota or the North Dakota Farmers Union. Everything was made from scratch, including their cocktails and syrups. We started with the brie bread and the skillet cornbread. Both tasty - the corn bread was less sweet and more corny. And the brie was nice with the caramelized onions a nice touch. My son had a strawberry lemonade that used their house-made strawberry syrup that he really enjoyed, and my husband had an old fashion. I was boring and stuck with water. We enjoyed our food (my husband: yankee pot pie, son: chicken soup, and me: fish of the day mahi-mahi with hazelnut butter). For dessert, we got an affogato, a cup of coffee ice cream, and a chocolate chip cookie. All tasty, especially the cookie which was a little warm. Came last night for a late dinner with family. Balsamic blue bacon cheeseburger, shrimp and sun dried tomato pasta, turkey avocado blt and the shrimp and grits were our entrees. All very good but I believe that our server was a little slow on picking them up as all were not temperature hot but relatively warm. (Shrimp and grits sauce had congealed on the top). Artichoke and crab dip: 9.5/10 This is better than any spinach and artichoke dip I have had. It is so good. It is super moist on the inside and it doesn't taste too sugary and sweet. I just think that overall even though it's good, the taste itself is very strong. I don't know how to further describe it. Yankee Pot Roast: 9/10 Yum! This dish was surprisingly really good. There was a massive chunk of meat but it was so soft and juicy. Combined with the crazy and mashed potatoes this dish is like a warm hug that you didn't know you needed. Highly recommend! I wish there were a few more chunks of cooked vegetables. Tuna Poke: 8/10 I don't know if I'd consider this poke but more of a Chinese Sesame Tuna Salad. The salad part is mainly cabbage, which isn't very good. There should have been more chips because I don't want to eat a bowl of cabbage. The tuna was a little too minced, which is why I wouldn't consider it poke. It was more mashed. I had the eggs, bacon and seasoned tomatoes and upgraded my meal with the French toast. The crisp on the French toast was unreal. I almost felt fried, but it was so lite on the inside. We made a reservation and were seated right away. Our server was awesome, he was super knowledgeable about the place and food being offered. Caesar salad was a little above average. What really sold me was the "cornbread croutons" which was a little false advertising in my opinion. When you think croutons, you want the texture element. Here, it was just soft cornbread pieces which didn't do much for the salad that was already soft. You needed that texture. The hot crab and artichoke dip had chunks of crab and artichoke in it, but heavily lacked seasoning. Salt and pepper was needed at the very least and that would have made all the difference. The spicy sausage mussels dish had an awesome base, but again severely lacked seasoning. SALT & PEPPER PLEASE!!! The sauce it was in was broken as well, so very oily instead of a consistency you'd want to bathe in. Honestly what I ended up doing was combining both of those dishes on the bread and it was DELISH then. I can say this place was good enough to come back, but not good enough to choose over other restaurants in DC...as there are a lot to discover here! read more

We asked for hollandaise sauce on the side and the dish came out with the sauce on top. We asked for it to be remade and by the time it came back out, I was done with my breakfast. Great food, ambiance, and service AFTER we got seated. Knowing that we needed reservations for this very popular DC restaurant (just look at how many reviews this place has), my husband and I checked in with the hostesses when we arrived. Since we were early, we were told we'd be texted when our table was ready and were free to go to the shopping plaza across the street. We did just that, got our text at our reservation time, and checked in again with the hostesses, who told us to step to the side and our table would be ready in a few minutes. The lobby on a Sunday morning there is very crowded, with people constantly arriving and getting in line for a table. After a good 30 minutes, my husband went back to the hostess stand and checked on our table only to find that they'd listed us as NO-SHOWS! Yes, we should have checked on our table earlier, but we didn't, assuming they were just so busy. Anyway, they seated us right away after the error was pointed out, and from then on, we had a great brunch experience. Our server was fantastic, the food was delicious, and I'd definitely come back here. For my beverage, I ordered "Today's Rickey" which happened to be cherry, apropos for cherry blossom season. A rickey has lime juice, seltzer, and today's syrup (cherry)--so refreshing and not too sweet. My husband and I ordered some biscuits to start and those were tasty. For my entree, I had the Chicken Pot Pie, which was a deconstructed version, with the filling separated from the "pie" part--so good! My husband had the Fried Chicken and Waffle, also good, especially the mac n cheese that come with the dish. I can see why this place is so popular; there were several large parties and it is definitely a place I would frequent for special events if I lived here.
