The food is delicious and good portioned like always, cannot criticize that, but the service was lackluster. A couple of ladies who also had a reservation decided to leave because they were kept waiting, and the hostess gave us the reason that tables are taking their time with the check. This place held up to the hype. Service was great and during the 4+ visits I made we never had any issues. The place is packed and busy and still amazingly clean and ready to party! We went for dinner then returned the next morning for breakfast! it made an impression on us for sure. When i returned to DC a month later I had to come back! so i did a few times. They have some other locations and they offer some cool stuff, The location near the Carnegie library does a Buffay on the weekend. I went check it out. I tried the corn chicken salad, which was surprisingly delicious despite my initial skepticism about there being popcorn instead of croutons on top. The cornbread starter is a must-try and ideal for sharing with the table; even with six of us, one serving was sufficient. I made reservations for 3 at 7:30PM and were seated once our entire party had arrived. The restaurant was surprisingly busy at 7:30 on a Wednesday. So busy in fact that walk-ins were waiting around 2 hours for a table. If you can make reservations, that is highly recommended to avoid the longer wait times. After being seated, we were greeted immediately and asked for drink orders. Our waiter was very attentive and even recommended a few dishes when I was stuck between three - crab cake, salmon or thyme chicken. Based on our waiter's recommendation, I went with the chicken. For the price, it was pretty bland and not something that I would order again. The best thing we ordered was the cornbread appetizer. But even that was a underwhelming. Also, the restaurant was very loud. I had difficulty hearing the people at my table, which took away from the experience of connecting with my party. This restaurant was truly OUTSTANDING. We had a large group, but they were very accommodating and had a table prepared for us exactly at our reservation time, despite being super busy! We did wait a bit longer than I would have liked for a waiter to take our drink orders, but they were very apologetic and made up for it with a (delicious) free appetizer! The food itself was incredible, and menu had so many great options! While they do appear on the pricier side, the portion sizes are huge. The food is also set apart in its quality, freshness, and locality of ingredients! Recently stopped in for dinner during our stay in DC and must say, I really wanted to like the place. After reading reviews and then seeing the side of the building which said "eat breakfast all day" or something similar, I was disappointed to learn they don't actually offer breakfast food all day. Ordered the biscuit appetizer, which came out dry, but a good portion size and overall, tasty. I ordered the spatchcocked chicken while my wife got the grilled cheese and tomato soup. I've grilled and smoked spatchcocked meats many times and will say the chicken was waaaay too thin to spatchcock. They tried to compensate the dryness with a glaze, but it couldn't sufficiently mask the shoe leather-esque chicken. Mashed potatoes were a little soupy, as pointed out by my wife across the table. Her grilled cheese was also dry and under cheesed for the thickness of bread. The inside has lots of seating options and the atmosphere is nice. Very lively and clean inside. The menu has lots of options for fun drinks and good food from sandwiches to salads to lots of different entrees. My friend and I split the crab dip and it was so warm and cheesy and delicious! I loved it! I then ordered the poke salad and it was also good. A little small but I left a good amount full with the appetizer. The salad felt very fresh with good ingredients. I had a lovely meal! Best part of the visit was by far the stuffed French toast with strawberries and cream! The syrup had cinnamon sticks in it, it was so tasty! We shared the french toast and he had the southwest scramble while I had the pastrami hash. I ordered coffee and it was super strong! He was pretty disappointed in his scramble. The dish in general was cold but the jalepeno tasted as if it came right out of the fridge he was also sad there was no protein and found the random strips of tortillas to be unnecessary. This place is overrated. Before going to DC, I read on Reddit that many people don't actually recommend trying Founding Farmers. I thought there must be a reason it's so famous and popular, since it's close to where we stayed, we decided to try it and be my own judge. Each location's menu is slightly different, this location does not have buffet brunch. We also went to another two popular restaurants, Succotash and Pisco y Nazca, so we learned to make reservations at these popular places. Our reservation for Founding Farmers was 12:45pm, got there around 12:30pm, it was packed as expected. The host checked us in and told us to wait, so we checked out the Western Market next door to kill time. When we came back and waited for few minutes, we were seated just on time. Our waitress was busy but polite. We got the farmhouse platter and chicken fried steak and waffles. We were not impressed by either dish we got. We did like the corns, coleslaw and string beans, but the stars of the dishes were mediocre. Maybe we didn't order the right dish, but I don't think it's worth the wait. read more

So so so disappointing! I'm surprised that this restaurant continues to be popular despite the rip off in quality of food. I'd been to Founding Farmers a few years back and didn't recall it being an extremely bad experience. I decided to try it again but unfortunately as vegetarians we were left disappointed. They do have a whole meatless section and side dishes, but wow, the taste was barely anything and just cooked with no seasoning. We got the sides of French-Cut Green Beans (neither any flavor nor interesting texture whatsoever and a little undercooked). The Zucchini & Peas was the bare minimum in taste value. For the veggie main options, quite a few could only be made using egg (e.g. the bread of the sandwich and bun of burger are made with egg). They couldn't even replace them with regular store quality bread or buns, which I would think is not too much to ask for. We ended up having a Salad, Cauliflower Steak, Veggie Cheeseburger, and Veggie Loaf. Funnily enough, after figuring out what we could have for a long time, the salad came with a bread on top. We easily removed it, but still that was funny. I had the Cauliflower Steak. I'm not one to choose that dish often, but I thought they might give an interesting spin on it. I was so wrong. It came with the same tasteless green beans, tasteless mushroom risotto (I don't even remember really tasting mushroom) and really not memorable cauliflower. Everyone else didn't really thoroughly enjoy their dishes. Probably the Veggie Loaf was the most doable, but still the least that can be expected from this caliber of a restaurant. For dessert, I got one of the few eggless options, which was the Chocolate Strawberries. I got the 5 for $10.99 option. The presentation was so bad lol, they were just placed on a plate, no effort, like if one were to haphazardly place them at home after they're just made. They were alright in taste, but for the price and reputation of the restaurant, extremely disappointing. Given the long wait time, steep prices and the additional service charge for the sub-par quality in food, I would not recommend coming here, especially as vegetarians. I increased the stars to two stars from one because my mom had left her phone in the restaurant and they put it in their safe, so we were able to pick it up the next day. Thank you! read more

I really love Founding Farmers. I see why it's a staple in the DC metro area. I have been here a few times for a casual breakfast and then also for dinner. My food hit 8 times out of 10 (it missed for dinner for ME but I definitely prefer them for breakfast.) The quick breakfast hit the spot as always and out server stayed a moment to chat with us about his baby when he saw my baby in the carrier. I don't do well with long waits so I was able to snag a spot for us at the bar after about 10 mins. Be sure to cancel your place in line if you sit at the bar. The menu options are endless and you can order breakfast, lunch or brunch items so I was a little overwhelmed, but she guided me with a list of her favorites. I got the pickled veggies and the shrimp bucatini. THAT PASTA WAS AMAZING! It's handmade and worth every single bite. My partner got the mini cheeseburgers, fries and Mac and cheese. We visited DC for the weekend, and although this place wasn't our first choice among the many great food options in the city, we're so glad we went. The atmosphere was lively, fast-paced, and full of energy. The servers had great attitudes, and the service was quick! Everything was delicious but not necessarily mind blowing. Some dishes are portioned a lot larger than others- for example, the pancake plate was massive and overhelming while the "farmers breakfast" (two eggs, choice of meat/bread/side) was very small and hardly filled the plate. I will say the pancakes are incredibly yummy and fluffy, just way too much. The farmers breakfast is average, I've had better at other places- scrambled eggs are good but the sausages are very greasy and the bacon is not generously portioned. However, they have great oatmeal, which is not something often on breakfast menus. Otherwise, the waiters and staff are friendly and food comes out quickly. And the service is typically outstanding. On our visit in August 2025, we enjoyed expected high levels of service, food quality, taste, and comfort. Our server Ty was outstanding.
