A tacos and tequila night with friends. My order of tacos were mixed up or made incorrectly, and sent back four times. Each time taking about 20 minutes. Almost an hour and a half later - after my entire group had already finished eating their second round of tacos - I finally got to eat what I originally ordered. The tacos weren't great. Nothing I would ever go out of my way to order again. The drinks and food were overall reasonably priced. The service was almost terrible. Although very friendly, the waitress would constantly disappear. We would completely sober up before we could order another round. When we finally got our bill in the end - we were charged for additional items. We did not even argue, we just paid the full bill and could not wait to just get out of there. The manager did the best he could to rectify. He diffused tons of frustration and made sure we left smiling. He is the only reason I did not give this place one star. Can't speak for the food, but the drinks were okay. I came on a weekday to find a pretty empty space with plenty of open seats. When we sat ourselves by a set of comfy couches by the window, we were told that they were reserved and invited to move to a back table. Happy to do so, don't want to take someone else's table. First time I went to this location and the place looks really nice! It's a different vibe from other location that I used to go. The service was a little slow, specially because it was not busy at all, it was a bit of struggle to get to call the waitress to order things but she was nice and kind. YES - Chicken bites: it comes only 3 pieces, really small portion, but it was tasting fresh and juicy, so good! YES - Calamari: portion was bigger and it was tasty, the sauce that comes with it was also good! NO - Nachos: disgusting, nobody could eat it. Almost no cheese, after baking it they put cream and guacamole on top (and it was not even guacamole, it was avocado paste, not even salt added) and really little of tomato and jalapeño. Terrible! MAYBE - Poutine: If you are looking for the traditional dish with French fries, then don't order it. But it's really good, it's made with tarter tots and gravy and cheese on top! I liked it, but it's not poutine! To drink I ordered red sangria, not good! Just juice with wine, not a real sangria. The glass/quantity is small and I could barely feel the wine on it. I wouldn't recommend. But my friends got pitchers of beer and cider and it was cold and great! Washroom is clean and good. It could be a way better place, nice structure and potencial to have a better service and food. But not good yet. read more

The cauliflower bites were really flavourful and had a great sauce over them. The carbonara was loaded with chicken and bacon. The brownie was really fudgey and the almonds went perfectly. How sad this place is. They are still brand new but lack in everyway. Too bad because they are in a great location !!! The place is tiny and narrow. I sat at the bar. Bartender was not fun or friendly. To me a bartender should not only know how to make drinks but also converse with the customer and entertain !!! Maybe he was having a bad day? Drinks were good, I had a John Collins but the Rosemary was not fresh! And a dirty glass was left in front of us for way too long... Food: Buffalo bites were a huge disappointment. Every summer I walk by Fox and Fiddle's undeniably amazing patio and wish I were eating a burger and drinking a beer there. I finally got my chance during TIFF this year and, honestly, it was a hit-and-miss experience. On the hit side of things, the patio is indeed glorious. And, even better, I got a pint of an in-house pilsner called John St. and it was four dollars. Four dollars for a pint of beer! In Toronto! This is pretty much unheard of. And it wasn't bad, honestly. On the miss side, though, I decided to order the Banquet Burger with Fries and the food was...not good, to put it mildly. This was one of the driest, least appetizing hamburgers I can easily recall eating. It didn't come topped with any wet condiments, which certainly made the dryness of the patty all-the-worse. It got to the point where I had to take the thing apart and eat all the components separately just to make it edible. It's bad. The fries didn't fare much better, as they seemed to have emerged directly from a freezer. But that patio! And that cheap beer! I might return if only for those things, but I'll never, ever order food again. read more

I went to a place beside fox on John a while back and their music was so good that I knew o had to come back and go here for myself. I was not disappointed. I tried their calamari and two pizzas (one with cheese and spinach, one with mushrooms and olives). I definitely favour the pizza over the calamari, but that's mainly just because of who I am as a person. But their pizza is amazing. I don't even like black olives and I ate that whole pizza. To pair, they have a really nice house wine and, as suspected, their music is awesome. I would definitely add this to your list!! read more

Our waiter hardly checked up on us.. we had to ask other waiters to find our waiter to order/ask for stuff. The food was alright. We were a table of 4, ordered a few drinks, and the decided on some snacks The nachos, wings, and Poutine. The order took 20 mins to get to table - and we were the only ones on the entire patio and no customers inside! The Poutine were wedge fries with very little cheese curds, really - what's a Poutine without curds? The nachos were a large size. Limited again in cheese. No offering of any chili or anything. The food was decent and the service from our waitress was good, but the level of service from management/hostesses was deplorable and quite frankly, unacceptable. We had made a reservation for a table for 3 on the patio and once seated had proceeded to order over $200 worth of food/drink in the span of 90 minutes. At this point one of the hostesses came over and told us we would have to leave because they had another reservation for the table we were sitting at. At this point we all had drinks in front of us and 1/2 a pitcher of beer remaining (the pitcher had only been delivered about 10 minutes prior to that). I asked where we were supposed to go to finish our drinks, which we had paid for and hostess didn't know. Despite the request for a good seating, for a cozy bday celebration, we were given the corner most table, close to the back of their restaurant place..the seats were unstable Lol, and the view was a black masking :) We switched to another table (without sitting on or touching the given table) and the hostess/server comes to us and snaps at us as if we did a crime! Then we get a server, who apparently is in so much rush that he forgets to ask what beer we'd call for, or we even need cutlery with our rice dish that we called for, and then when we ask him to click a picture of us.. we get a blurry click, as if it was clicked in somebody's pocket..and he leaves without even acknowledging it. There are some hiccups depending what time of day it is but those who usually go above and beyond when it comes to service deserve to be acknowleged because this place gets pretty busy and they have a lotta cool staff and their food is great and they have good deals. Came here on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch catch up session with a girlfriend. The restaurant was very quit and there was only another table or two in the restaurant. I thought this bar was super cool, and definitely one of the best I encountered in Toronto. We spent most of our time on the second level, so if the first is anything different I can't really speak to it, although I did notice they had a nice large outdoor patio down there (signaled by the rising stacks of cigarette smoke) when I was on my way in. The bar is very spacious, with another outdoor patio on the second level that looked like it could hold quite a large party. We were here on Monday night for the football game and they had a huge screen draped down the biggest wall showing the game, a nice surprise to see our sports displayed so prominently outside of the States. The bar service was always pretty quick, even with it being extremely crowded. There seemed to be some really great deals going on for the Monday night game, although I didn't take advantage of any of them as I had already eaten and didn't want to drink piss beer. Apparently the pitchers of Molson or some other Canadian stuff was only about $10, while a regular pint (I was drinking Black & Tans) ran $6 or $7. I believe someone also said they sold wings by the pound, and they were apparently really cheap as well. I didn't eat any but the ones I saw leftover were huge, much better than what's offered across the street at Hooters. read more

Fulfilling food feast for Fred featuring Fox and Fiddle; Fred's famish forgotten. I've been to a few Fox and Fiddles in the past and this is hands down the best location. They've upgraded their decor with artwork (predominantly featuring foxes) and furniture that looks like it was pulled out of a fancy cabin/mansion; it has the vibe of a refined old boys club. There is an elevated area near the washrooms that is always full because it is a nicer dining area. This is without mentioning their great outdoor patio (also always packed) during the summer months. The menu is also upgraded from other locations. Drinks & cocktails are great, and the food is different and tasteful. So far, I've tried the cubano sandwich, the mini falafel pita, and the baked mac n cheese. Cubano was loaded with some succulent pork shoulder and was more filling than I thought. The mini falafel pita are tasty little bites you can pop in as appetizers and were a fun snack for the table. Last but not least, the baked mac n cheese was some of the best I've had; they pair the gooey cheese with breadcrumbs and jalapeno and you find yourself wishing they served it in larger portions. This location is great for its fixtures and the patio, but you cannot go wrong with the food or drinks. Kick back and enjoy your meal! read more

Went here on Friday after work to check out their patio since it was a nice day out. I really liked the patio as it was spacious and is along the street with less cars passing by. Beer pitchers are reasonably priced. A pitcher of Belgian Moon is $20, which is about 4 pints. So it's pretty reasonable for downtown. Their calamari ($13) was good. They use the big round squid, which normally I don't like as much compared to the smaller rings, but they were good here. It still had the squid flavour and the breading was also good. AVOID the Brisket Sliders ($13). You get three small pieces - I know sliders are supposed to be small but the brisket itself was small like just one thin layer per slider. And the WORST part, the brisket didn't taste like beef brisket. It tasted like Ham to me! So if you want Ham Sliders, go for this dish. The service was a bit lacking. I went with a friend and had a table for two. There was a couch area that seats 4. And when the people in the couch left, we asked if we can move there because we were expecting another friend to come join us. Instead of saying that it's unavailable in a nice way, what we got was: "No, this seating is for 4 people" (in a rude way) and then another server who overheard our inquiry as he was passing by adds "Those seats are already taken". Turns out, the people who sat there was just a group of 3, not 4 as we were rudely informed. We weren't happy by this turn of event that when our friend arrived, we just quickly finished our drinks and left. That friend was starving anyway and food was disappointing. So, I think I'd only come back here for patio and drinks. Even then, only when my usual go-to cheap drinks + patio places are full. Definitely need to plan to pre- or post- eat when coming here since food is not good. read more
