I made a reservation on Open Table for two to watch the Raptors game and it was very easy. While on my way though, I was surprised at the poor reviews this location has received. Between the two of us, we checked in through Yelp and received a free app ($15-20 each). We had the artichoke dip (free), mussels (free), 2lbs of wings ($29) (Cajun and honey garlic) and two beers. Our total amounted to $44 in the end after taxes. Artichoke and cheese dip was good. It was extra cheesy and hot, just the way I like it! The mussels were good. It was simple but they did leave a few closed ones. The wings were ok and tasted good. Overall, it wasn't a mind blowing experience, however we both still had a good time at the bar watching the game. The service was great and fast. I recently visited Fox On John to dine in at their beautiful patio and, I have to confront that their drinks are wild as those who drink them (from the imaginative triples, like Pitaya to their sub-zero draught to worldly whiskies), the food will take your taste buds on a wild hunt (from starters, entrees and desserts). I visited the fox for my best friends birthday and I was super excited for her to experience it as I had previously visited and had a great experience! (WHERE IS JOHN?!?! He was AMAZING) but ended up so disappointed by the service we received. It was very lack luster and left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. We arrived at 12:45pm, was seated at 1 ( no issue with this, you're busy). No one came and greeted our table until 1:28pm. Imagine my surprise and confusion as multiple tables around us were getting served with a smile. We didn't get greeted at our table until I had gotten up to notify the host. Then another 15 minutes had passed before even glasses came to the table, and when they arrived they were cracked. Service continued to teeter on the low end, no one checked on us no water nothing. Until my friend had to get up and find the host to ask for our waitress. Ordered food, not everything came. No one checked if we got all our food. We really enjoyed the food but I dont think I will be recommending this restaurant as I have been before to the many people I come across in my work. I went on Christmas day and the service for that day was excellent. I liked the food, the presentation was very pleasing to the eye and the taste was wonderful. The best of the whole experience was the interior, it was beautiful and I could hear my partner talk. The high ceilings, ensured that there was no excessive noise, bouncing back from all the other patrons yet it retained a warm and welcoming ambiance. Food quality is closer to 2.5 stars but Fox on John is deserving of 3 because the patio here is not bad (lots of seating, umbrellas, heat lamps, and best of all dog friendly). Decent place to grab a bite before a ball game if you are in the area. On Thursdays the mussels are half price - I tried the one with marinara sauce but you can also get it in the white wine garlic sauce. Portion is rather small but the bread that it comes with is warm and pretty good! At half price it is a good deal. Decided to check this location out without reservations and we got outdoor seating immediately Ambiance: you cannot beat a live DJ who loves 2000s music. We were jamming the whole time to the music. The outdoor space is also nicely decorated so they definitely get points for that. Food: the food was great. We all got several items on the menu and everyone was satisfied. Staff: very courteous, even brought an umbrella as they suspected it might rain... so when it did start pouring we were happy to be covered. read more

We dropped by on this Friday for a few drinks and a bite to eat. While the pub was reasonably busy when we arrived, it filled up quickly as 9pm approached and the bar took on more of a club vibe. They had a DJ to get the crowd going and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. It was clear that they were very understaffed, however, and the manager was clearing tables and delivering food and drinks to tables. Our server (Renee) was pleasant and reasonably attentive, given that she had an entire section or two to herself and was clearly very busy. I ordered 1lb of chicken wings and fries, and my partner ordered the calamari and pasta carbonara. His food arrived within 10 minutes (actually, the main arrived while he was still eating his starter) but mine took another 10-15 minutes after that. The calamari and pasta were pretty good (3 stars) but my wing portion was tiny (I'd say 1/2lb at most) and didn't come with the extra side of hot sauce I asked for. A small detail but given that it was pretty hard to track down our server I ended up going without in the end. In terms of price, our meals and a drink each came to over $80 which is not cheap but then again nothing is these days. I'd definitely give this place another try but not on a Friday night as it ended up being far too packed and service suffered as a result. Finally, despite advertising a free dessert with any main for the month of February, we weren't offered that either. Their house beer (John Street Lager) was $6 after 9pm and we actually found it pretty good. I went there for my birthday and have reservations for 5. The start, I almost walked out as they want us to cramped in the sofa side who can barely fit two person and they want to put three of us there just because no extra chair for the person in our group like it was our fault even if we specifically booked for 5. Finally we were moved to the other table. The ambience and the noise level was minimal. As Foodie as I am, I would like to try most of their menu but we have limited table space so we had some nachos and calamari to start which is tasty and cooked properly. Nachos are crispy even with cheese on top since the guacamole, and other sauce are on the side. The calamari cooked perfectly. Most of us got the ribeye steak although not cooked the way we like it. It is still pretty good. The pasta and fish was good too. We supposed to order dessert but I feel like we don't have time as the staff told us that if we order dessert we only have this time left. A tacos and tequila night with friends. My order of tacos were mixed up or made incorrectly, and sent back four times. Each time taking about 20 minutes. Almost an hour and a half later - after my entire group had already finished eating their second round of tacos - I finally got to eat what I originally ordered. The tacos weren't great. Nothing I would ever go out of my way to order again. The drinks and food were overall reasonably priced. The service was almost terrible. Although very friendly, the waitress would constantly disappear. We would completely sober up before we could order another round. When we finally got our bill in the end - we were charged for additional items. We did not even argue, we just paid the full bill and could not wait to just get out of there. The manager did the best he could to rectify. He diffused tons of frustration and made sure we left smiling. He is the only reason I did not give this place one star. Overall, I would only recommend this place if you were already in the area, and only going to have some drinks. read more

Can't speak for the food, but the drinks were okay. I came on a weekday to find a pretty empty space with plenty of open seats. When we sat ourselves by a set of comfy couches by the window, we were told that they were reserved and invited to move to a back table. Happy to do so, don't want to take someone else's table. We got drinks and spent a 2 hours chatting there before leaving for dinner. On our way out, we noticed that both couch areas were still empty..... which was strange and kinda weird. First time I went to this location and the place looks really nice! It's a different vibe from other location that I used to go. The service was a little slow, specially because it was not busy at all, it was a bit of struggle to get to call the waitress to order things but she was nice and kind. YES - Chicken bites: it comes only 3 pieces, really small portion, but it was tasting fresh and juicy, so good! YES - Calamari: portion was bigger and it was tasty, the sauce that comes with it was also good! NO - Nachos: disgusting, nobody could eat it. Almost no cheese, after baking it they put cream and guacamole on top (and it was not even guacamole, it was avocado paste, not even salt added) and really little of tomato and jalapeño. Terrible! MAYBE - Poutine: If you are looking for the traditional dish with French fries, then don't order it. But it's really good, it's made with tarter tots and gravy and cheese on top! I liked it, but it's not poutine! To drink I ordered red sangria, not good! Just juice with wine, not a real sangria. The glass/quantity is small and I could barely feel the wine on it. I wouldn't recommend. But my friends got pitchers of beer and cider and it was cold and great! Washroom is clean and good. It could be a way better place, nice structure and potencial to have a better service and food. But not good yet. read more

The cauliflower bites were really flavourful and had a great sauce over them. The carbonara was loaded with chicken and bacon. The brownie was really fudgey and the almonds went perfectly. Charlie was our server, he was very friendly and easy going, he guided us through the menu and helped us order the best choices. How sad this place is. They are still brand new but lack in everyway. Too bad because they are in a great location !!! The place is tiny and narrow. I sat at the bar. Bartender was not fun or friendly. To me a bartender should not only know how to make drinks but also converse with the customer and entertain !!! Maybe he was having a bad day? Drinks were good, I had a John Collins but the Rosemary was not fresh! And a dirty glass was left in front of us for way too long... Food: Buffalo bites were a huge disappointment.
