Went here for brunch on Labor Day. Pretty short wait for a party of 6. Service was great. Everything on the menu sounded great but the execution was sub-par. Got the tartine with prosciutto, arugula, fig jam and goat cheese. Sounds amazing! But the bread was cut a little thin, the fig jam was spread too thick so it was too sweet, and the goat cheese was just in crumbles?? This would have been way better/easier to eat with a goat cheese spread. Quality ingredients but poor execution. The Greek quinoa salad had very little dressing/flavor, also disappointing. Got the caramel latte iced but when it got to our table, the ice was already melted and it tasted like watery milk. Gross. Great ambiance and liked the outdoor patio a lot, but I would not come back because of the food. No one at our table was impressed by their dishes. The side of potatoes was the best item. This a trendy cafe that has a wide variety of breakfast options and brunch options. I came here around 10am and the wait was 30 min which wasn't too bad. I ordered the Jameson (Johnston?) omelet. I forgot which name it was but it was pretty good. I enjoyed the chicken and avocado in it. The potatoes look better than they tasted. I expected them to taste more like "potatoes" if that makes sense. More crunchy and richer in flavor. Still enjoyed them though. My partner ordered the chilaquiles and hated them. They were not authentic Mexican chilaquiles but that was to be expected. They just didn't taste right (if you've had good chilaquiles, you know what I mean). I wanted to see what all the hype was about, but the food was just okay. I got the chilaquiles and the chips were soggy. My sister got the spicy chicken wrap, which I thought was very good. Next time I think I'll try the traditional breakfast items (French toast, waffles, etc). It's one of those restaurants where you have to order up front and then sit down with a number, so it's a very casual atmosphere. Favorite breakfast burritos and potatoes! We've come here during COVID and they have safe social distancing and outdoor dining but do get pretty busy on the weekends. Every entree we've had was delicious but their breakfast potatoes are SO SO good! They're flavorful and crispy and I can't get enough of them. The service was excellent! You do order at the cashier and they serve you...and they check on you! Sit yourself inside or on the patio. I had a BLT salad and it was yummy with a good amount of smoked bacon in bite size pieces. I also treated myself to the Neapolitan Crepe...mmmmmmm! The unsweetened peach tea hit the spot! We found this place on yelp today and we were very excited to eat here but did not have the best experience. First we waited around 45 minutes or more for our food, some of the food was cold or not very worth the wait, and then we watched others get food faster than us right when they were seated. Once we finally got our food we asked for condiments and never received them. We had to go get them ourselves and get up and ask again. Overall, as a restaurant workers ourselves to continue improving your business you need to recognize when you mistreat or don't provide good customer service and that was not shown today. No apologies were made from any workers. MUST READ!!! I know it's long but please don't skip this - the one star I gave is really a zero. I had to put at least one star in order to post this review ATTENTION BLACK PPL - & any other person with a half decent heart & regard for humanity don't give your money to this establishment. I went there today with 2 friends after we did a 5 mile hike in the hills. So needless to say we were not in our fanciest threads. We added our names to the wait list and waited about 40 minutes until we received a text notifying us that we were next in line. So we're excited and as I'm sure you can imagine we were also VERY hungry at this point considering the fact that we had been burning calories since 6am on the trail. We approached the hosts podium and stated that we got our message that we were next. & the asshole working the front says in the nastiest and most off putting tone "Okay y'all need to wait over there, you can't be in this area." & he pointed to the side. Basically saying to keep the entrance area clear. Which made sense, but there's a proper way to say things. Though his tone was uncalled for we just stepped to the side. He starts talking to another group who were waiting & I have to mention his tone was MUCH different than the one he just gave us because of course they weren't black. & in the middle of assisting the other ppl he turns to us and says again in his demeaning and diminishing tone "NOT RIGHT THERE, OVER THERE AROUND THE CORNER WHERE THE LINE IS, GO ALL THR WAY AROUND THE CORNER!" Mind you, both instances that he spoke to us in this derogatory fashion it's in front of a crowd full of ppl. There's outdoor dining so there's ppl right there eating who he's doing this in front of plus all the ppl waiting to be seated or have their name added to the waitlist. Hello, it's LA so you know it's a crowd full. So he's publicly reprimanding us at this point. Again, we didn't react we just went around the corner. We go around the corner but stay towards the front of the line because as previously stated, we were NEXT in line to be seated. He then leaves his podium and approaches us around the corner and needless to say in his same nasty tone "Guys you need to go to the back of the line, you can't stand here go all the way to the end." Again this is being done in front of a crowd full of ppl. Completely dehumanizing us in the public & tlkn to us like we're not ppl after we've waited almost an hour on empty stomachs to spend our money in this establishment & this is strike 3. So at this point we don't even want to eat here anymore. This is the introduction to our overall dining experience. The host/greeter's job is to create a welcoming and inviting nature to the guests and set the tone for a quality dining experience. But we were instead belittled and mistreated on a very public scale because of our skin and the way we were dressed. So I had some choice words for the racist asshole and me & my friends decided we would not be spending our money there. Even though we had waited all this time and were starving. Talk about being inconvenienced! My friend calls the restaurant and asks to speak to the manager to explain the mistreatment we were just subjected to. The manager who gives his fake ass meaningless apology fixes his mouth to say I'm sorry he was rude to you but he's not racist. So to add insult to injury, your establishment has not only wasted our time, mistreated us & publicly tried to embarrass and dehumanize us, but now you're gonna tell me that I don't know racism as if I haven't experienced it & been on the unfavorable side of it my entire life. So on top of all that I just mentioned you're insulting my intelligence by telling me I didn't experience wtf I just experienced. I'm tired of ppl who have never had to endure what we have just feeling like they have the right to dilute the adverse circumstances that we have to face for no damn reason. You're not even qualified to tell me what a racist encounter is because you've never been on the ugly side of it. & to my black ppl we need to start standing up for ourselves and demanding our human rights. I've NEVER written a Yelp review before in my entire life. This is the first & it's sad that it had to be of this nature. The ppl giving this place 5 stars because the food is good which I'm sure it is. It smelled damn good while we were standing out there waiting for almost an hour. & sadly we didn't even get to experience the food because of racism and classism. Among the 3 of us, we had 2 of the Smokey Ben, a Greens Eggs + Ben, the Croissant French Toast, an almond milk latte and chai tea lattes. Overall, everything was bland and lacked flavor. The eggs on both the Smokey Bens were overdone and not runny at all. My Green Eggs and Ben was bland, I gave pieces of bacon to my friends and you'd be surprised how flavorless and not salty it was. Hollandaise sauce needed seasoning. The drinks were all super dilute as well. The Croissant French Toast was the only thing that we really liked, but not enough to come back. Fratelli Cafe came though when our brunch plans fell through the cracks. We discovered this place on Yelp and took a kinda scary Uber to the restaurant. We did add our names to the wait list, but because our Uber ride was cray, we were a couple minutes late. The hostess was still able to check us in and seat us rather quickly for it being a Sunday. The space is really nice and they also seat those drinking alcohol in a different section than those who aren't. Not sure why, but it seems like a good idea to me. We obviously sat in the alcoholic - i mean - alcohol section. Our bottle of champagne arrived with freshly squeezed orange juice and our food was right behind it. The food was delicious. The potatoes were drowning in thyme seasoning, but the omelette and breakfast tacos made up for it. We were able to sit outside once we were done eating and just enjoy our second bottle of champagne until the place closed down. We were never rushed or told to leave since they were closed. Came here on a Sunday morning at 7:30am and not busy at all so parking was very easy. Their coffee is very dark and a little bitter, I prefer more smooth and less strong but appreciated that at $3.50 you could get refills. We sat on the patio because of our dog, lots of space. It's counter order which is nice, no need to wait on a server. Got the croissant French toast, chicken and waffles, and a side of turkey sausage and biscuit. Over it was a solid breakfast. I wish they had more than small packets of smuckers jam and that the butter was whipped or soft not rock hard in the foil packets. read more
