Unfortunately, I cannot say I am overly impressed with this place. That's a shame, because I work at the courthouse and we're already hurtin' for decent food options within walking distance. My first visit was probably a year or so ago; I had a mediocre chicken Caesar salad. My second visit: some co-workers took me to lunch for my birthday. It was a later lunch than usual, but when we walked in we were told they were basically out of everything. Out. Of. Everything?!? Sounds like bad management, right? Yesterday, I decided to give it another go with some co-workers. My chicken sandwich had tomatoes on it even though I ordered it without. No big deal, took 'em off. In general, though, the sandwich was bland, and had not nearly enough chicken. My co-workers food came out several minutes before my sandwich. Then, when it did come, it came without chips, but a promise to get me some. The chips took so long to arrive I almost forgot about them...we were literally getting ready to get up and leave when the chips arrived at the table. I was so looking forward to homemade Italian food for lunch today. I wasn't sure if I wanted lasagna or ravioli. They had no lasagna ready. I got the lunch special ravioli with soup. My mom decided to treat me on a lunch date to one of her go to spots just a block away from the Courthouse. This little gem is located in a very quiet area with quick access to side street parking and the metro bus. Their menu choices are endless and if you are still unsure what to get, there is a lunch special they have everyday that you can opt for. I tried a slice of their pepperoni pizza with a side house salad. My mother had half of a turkey sandwich with a house salad as well. The pizza itself was pretty large for a slice and slightly on the oily side but topped with some grated Parmesan red peppers and I was in heaven! The salad was on the lighter side and complimented the pizza. The bed of spring mix was topped with some red onions, olives and grated Parmesan and a light vinegarette. The staff is friendly and the ambience of the place is quiet nice with nice natural daylight streaming into the restaurant. I would come back to try their pasta dishes! read more

I have to say my favorite dish from here is actually the Italian Wedding Soup. And it's not to say that the rest of the food isn't good because much of what I've had so far has been terrific. It's just that something so simple can taste so complex and delicious always throws me in for a loop. And quite honestly, I can't seem to get enough of it. Visiting San Antonio on St. Patrick's Day today, we decided to give the downtown Fratello's Centro Citta a try in the hopes of being in and out with a quick lunch. Our first disappointment was to be told they were already out of soup (1:15pm), and out of pizza dough--both what we had hoped to order! We went with our second choice and ordered the daily special "Salad and 1/2 Sandwich." After more than 30 minutes, our salads still had not arrived. There were only two other tables with customers and they were all served their orders while we continued to wait. Figuring they had possibly overlooked our order, I went up to the counter to ask about the salads. Within a few minutes, they arrived. We then had to make a second trip to the counter to ask for napkins. Again, we waited and waited on the sandwiches (now more than an hour.) A third trip was made to the counter to ask about our sandwiches. Apparently, the sandwiches had long been made but were just sitting there behind the counter the whole time! To say we were disappointed in the service is an understatement. $50 for three salads and sandwiches for lunch is not something we will be repeating or recommending to friends or family. read more

Garbage. The entire place smelled like toilet cleaner. The staff was rude and the person who took my order argued with me when I told her nicely that I thought she had told me one thing. It would have been fine if she corrected me, but I'm a very voice she said, NO NO I didn't tell you that. I DEFINITELY did not say that. Also, she absolutely told me I could pull up on the street when there is no where to pull up because of the construction. There are also no clear signs for the minimal parking they have. But ultimately the food is what matters. I had a meatball sub. It was garbage. Seven inch sub with four tiny tiny meatballs. It was all bread. Oh and the bread was soggy in the middle and burnt to a crisp on the edges. And they serve it with stale kettle chips. And they charged me $15! It was at best a $10 sandwich anywhere else. I will never go here again. One of the worst experiences I've had in San Antonio. Rip off. read more

We are first timers from Houston. Spectacular is the only word that comes to mind. In fact, we were here for lunch and are headed back to try something different tonight for dinner. We had the Eggplant Parmesan, Caesar salad and the Basil Triple Leches cake. All incredibly fresh and made from scratch. The restaurant was really clean and had a really neat vibe. We noticed the owner walking around chatting with the guests. It was a very cozy, family friendly, relaxing atmosphere. If there were 10 stars we would have given them 10! I already frequented the Broadway location so I was thrilled when their second location opened downtown so now I go multiple times a week for lunch. SERVICE- Customer service is amazing. Managers Janelle and Chris both work so hard and go above and beyond to provide wonderful customer service. The cooks also always offer a smile while they work. AMBIENCE - Tons of light, really well laid out to fit a lot of people. I see a lot of business lunches taking place here. Since City Hall is about 50 ft. away you are bound to see someone important if not tons of city employees. FOOD - GREAT selection for whatever you're in the mood for! Breakfast pizza and pastries. I've only had the blueberry muffin but they make them in house and they're amazing. For lunch they have a great special where you can pick two (half a sandwich, side salad, or soup) and it also comes with chips or parm. fries. Both of which have great seasoning! Great deal. They also have the traditional italian favs. Like I mentioned, I eat here very regularly and the selection is so good I rarely get the same thing. DRINKS - REALLY good selection of drinks. From Wine and beer, espresso drinks, topo chico, flavored pellegrino, and tons of juices -- basically a mini convenience store of all the best drinks. **Perfect for a drink stop on a hot SA day if you're a tourist walking from central downtown to Market Square rather than going into a sketchy 7-11. Food isn't the worst, Now service? So my experience I went at noon during lunch time. WORST experience! Yes I understand that your busy but it's a business and people are going to eat. Now I ordered a slice of cheese pizza and a soup and my friend ordered the chicken Alfredo pasta (his got there maybe 20 min after we ordered). I waited over 45 minutes for the woman to come and tell me it's going to be an additional 15 minutes because they RAN OUT OF DOUGH! It's took over 15 minutes and when she brought me my pizza she didn't apologize and just seemed annoyed with us. I took an almost 2 HOUR lunch because of this place. This place is excellent. It is a little pricy for lunch but they are passionate about their food. Quality and preparation are excellent. They have lunch specials that average around $10. It is a little cheaper if you order the pizza. They have sandwiches, pasta, and excellent soup. The owners are very kind and you can see the care they put into their restaurant. It is always clean and has a very modern interior. Please note it can get very busy during the lunch hour! Despite the relatively low number of yelp reviews (at the time of posting) this place is a local hot spot. There are large numbers of police officers and other employees from around the area that like to eat here! Also they have a perfect 100 from the health department but it's hidden in a corner.... I hate to give a negative review, especially after having good experiences here and the main location previously. However, today I showed up for the lunch special at 11 and the pizza was very subpar.... I'm sorry I have to use this comparison but it was similar to cafeteria/7-11 pizza, which is a shame because I've had fantastic top notch pizza in the past here, even when getting the special. It seems the quality of the lunch special pizza has been compromised as it isn't the same level as my past experiences here. It's a shame because there are few really awesome original independent pizza spots in SA, let alone downtown. Normally I recommend this place to co-workers downtown but I feel the quality has gone down. Perhaps a full pizza would be higher in quality which I've also had before, but it shouldn't depend on the price of pizza to determine quality. The caprese tower (not served as a tower) consisted of a few small slices of a very small tomato and hardish, dry mozzarella over which some pretty bland balsamic vinegar was poured. There was one tiny piece of basil in the dish. The soup was almost room temperature and the bread is more like white bread than an italian loaf. Fratello's gets plenty of five star ratings!
