Ate at this establishment compliments of Pierce. The waitstaff was serving a group of 20 and they did an excellent job. Drink orders and appetizers were delivered to the table in very quick order and our main entrees were ordered and delivered without any lapse in time. The appetizers were many and delicious. My favorite, the fried chicken tender has a captain crunch crust that was sweet and salty, was delicious. The bruschetta and other appetizers were also really good. I ordered the ribeye with potatoes and asparagus for my entree and all was really excellent. I will be back in Wisconsin in a few months and hope Pierce decided to bring us back to this restaurant. Booked reservations on may 15th at 7:45 pm, we were seated not by the windows near the water front after are original reservation was for seats near the Windows 2 waiters have gone up and asked the blonde hostess and nothing was done till she seated a different group at are original table we were supposed to be at, not once or twice but it took 3 separate people from are table to go up and ask the hostess nicely if we can change seatings, didn't bother to even tell us if we can wait a little till one was available, she had a terrible and sucky attitude! She wasn't polite or offered anything for us . Don't know why you would hire children to represent you're restaurant to be a hostess and have such terrible work ethics ... besides that after 15 mins of trying to get are original table, we ordered and went in for the night, after a hour and a half of waiting it's going on 9:15 pm, " after closing hours ... are waitress tells us that the wait and hold up was because of Newley trained cooks ... zero excuse for you to be waiting that long, if you can't train staff to do there job then don't even bother opening a restaurant, this should have never happened and was 100% preventable overall after we got are food surprisingly are food was absolutely amazing, everything was more then we expected after as much inconvenience was caused the only comprises that was offered was a free desert after spending over $120 and waiting for a hour and a half .... you need to get a grip on your restaurant and train your staff this was ridiculous that any of this would have happened and it's a disgrace to the name of frattelos . We went there for appetizers and drinks. A 5 stars for location being water front and all and a great service. The star of this review is Arugula Pizza. I hesitated to order something gluten free because most of the time, gluten free pizza tastes like cardboards. Not this pizza! The crust is somewhat in the texture of a flatbread but I was forgetting that this was a gluten-free pizza because of different flavors hitting my palate in different notes, front and back, and the lingering after taste is rich - a much coveted invitation to the next bite and the next bite. Perfect amount of cheese paired superbly with sweet caramelization of the sliced onion and pears, layered in prosciutto for salt and familiar taste, it completely changes the flavor profile of each ingredient. Instead, a Beethoven tune was played, in flavors! Coupled with perfect setting of the location on the river, the experience was unforgettable. We also ordered Charcuterie & Cheese and Spinach & Artichoke dishes. They were also very good, just pale in comparison of the pizza. We were very disappointed with our meal at Fratellos. Two of the meals (sirloin and crispy gnocchi) came out with cold carrots and the gnocchi wasn't warm, not crispy at all and very dense. They were under seasoned also. The hamburger was just OK and the Chicken Parmesan meals were under seasoned also. We did enjoy their beer selections. The service was good. The best thing about this restaurant was our waiter. We ordered 4 entrees and we were not impressed. The almond crusted walleye was the best entree we ordered. The filet was awful....not flavorful and definitely not tender. The squash ravioli was bland. The ambience was nice but the food was not anything g to rave about. Okay overpriced menu items and rude manager/lead host. I went there for lunch with my husband and 1 year old. I took my daughter to change her diaper and they didn't have a changing table in the bathroom - annoying. The manager/host (a vain blonde woman who was staring at herself in the mirror every time I saw her - you can't mistake her) didn't apologize, or give me a solution, but made me feel like I was at fault for bringing a baby to her pretentious restaurant. I had to go out to the car to change my daughter. All the manager said was, "we don't get a lot of toddlers in here." My response: "then why do you have high chairs?" We won't be returning. Great food, good service, and a hell of a venue. Adds up to a good meal in Appleton. On a recommendation, we headed here for dinner, while in town for business. A bit out of the way, but right near downtown, the venue floored us. Built in the shell of a 19th century power plant, right on the Fox River, you have a majestic view of the rapids from the locks, mixed with the good contract of the exposed industrial architecture and clever artistic touches. A note on wine: I'm a Northern California wine snob. There, I said it. When I pick up a wine list in a smaller Midwest city I am traveling to, I expect to cringe with overpriced bottles of Mondavi Coastal or Kendall Jackson. Much to my surprise, there is a very diverse list here, with many wines by the glass, and a wide section of regions, countries, and flavors available. Being slightly warmer, I enjoyed a Spanish Rioja at a very inexpensive price. My companion ordered one of the beers (honey wheat, maybe? I just remember shuddering at the mention of a Blueberry Ale), and agreed it was super. Based on Yelps I read, we started with the Chicken Crunch strips. While they were good, the included waffle fries were equally good, when covered with that honey mustard dressing. The Caesar salad was a surprise, with good flavor, and an ample addition of sliced egg on the side, though the cheese was a bit hard. Main courses were Fish N' Chips, which our waitress exclaimed, "Oh, that is SO Wisconsin!" (after learning we were from San Francisco), which were good, and a Shrimp Pad Thai, which, while heavy on the peanut sauce (which I like) also proved to double as a paint splatterer (note: don't order this if you are wearing any light clothing). Overall, very good. My only quibble with the place was the price of the entrees. Yes, you got a good selection of the food, and the food was good, but the prices for most were on the upper range. Given the venue and the inexpensive (but good!) wine and beer, it balances out, but if they offered 3-4 main courses at the $12-13 range as a specials list, instead of another $22 meat dish, I can see this place being THE summer hotspot. Fantastic food and beer selection. I happened to stroll in right before the dinner crowd came in. I sat at the bar and was able to have a great view of the water by sitting at the end of the bar. I had a blueberry ale beer, which was great, and the seared Ahi Tuna pizza, both which I highly recommend. I did see a number of people try the white chicken chili, which appeared to be a favorite of the locals. If you are in the area I suggest giving them a try. read more

They also have a good Bloody Mary and great Blueberry Beer (not too sweet or fruity) I don't recommend this place for the food, though. Avoid anything that takes much culinary skill to prepare. Located in absolutely stunning setting, in an old powerplant building, with huge windows opening up to roaring water spilling out of from what I can tell, is an old dam, this restaurant takes your breath away as you walk in. Make sure to come in when there is still daylight outside and try to get a seat next to the window. For groups of 5 or more there are two great corner tables on both levels. The interior designer also did a great job of keeping some elements of the powerplant to remind of the industrial past of the restaurant. All in all you cant find a better place for a date or for a special occassion in Appleton. Most entrees are $20-25, appetizers are split into smaller and bigger portions with the indication of how many people can share it and that was very convinient. Good wine selection. We had ahi tuna lollipops for a split appetizer ($8) and special of the day pepper-crusted cod entree for $25. Overall all food we had was great. The best part of the evening though was the service. The waitress went above and beyond trying to accomodate us. Very attentive but not too overbearing she put a lot of effort into accommodating our grandma who had very bad hearing. In the end we were surprised with 3 complementary cupcakes (for the 6 of us) in different flavors and that was the great finishing touch to the overall meal. read more

Fratellos Riverfront Restaurant is a great place. The quality of food compared with the prices are perfectly reasonable. If you are going with a large group the menu has a wide range of foods that would please any palate. The decor is modern and has a great view of the river from almost any seat in the house which makes it a great place for a romantic evening if you are looking to save a couple bucks and still make a big impact this is the place to go. Have always had great service every time and have never been disappointed with our food choices. Tasty pizza, soups, pastas and sandwiches. We met for lunch (it happened to be restaurant week) and it had been a year + since I had been there. Oh well...it was ok. Had the soup (pretty good) and salad - clearly mass pre-prepared and was just plopped on the plate. The place needs a chef - it's such a great location...it could be amazing. My girlfriend and I had dinner here on Friday night and it was a wonderful experience. I had two of their maple old fashioneds which were both excellent. My girlfriend ordered the salmon and I got the walleye and both of them were beautifully prepared and absolutely phenomenal. We ate at the bar and Marty was our bartender/server and he was awesome. In Appleton, the venue really can't be beat with a beautiful view of the water (a dam?) and a classy and historical interior. I have dined here exactly two times: for my one-year and two-year anniversaries. For the purposes of this review, I'll focus on my most recent dining experience. We were seated immediately in a cozy corner on the lower level with a gorgeous view of the water. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We shared a mango lemonade that was a little on the sweet side, but maybe that's just the nature of a lemonade. We enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer, although it was a little heavy on the cream and less on the melted on cheese. The lettuce leaves in my caesar salad were a little wilted, which could be attributed to the heavy amount of dressing. Next time, I'll see if I can get it on the side. My chef's mac and cheese was really creamy and I loved the crumbs on the top. It is probably the best mac and cheese I've ever had at a restaurant! I know it's a total comfort food and that I should explore more of the menu next time, but it was simple and completely delicious. Our server ended up surprising us with a delectable chocolate cupcake for dessert because he noticed us doodling with crayon "two-year anniversary" with a bunch of hearts on the paper "tablecloth." It was the perfect end to a lovely dining experience! Fratello's is a very solid restaurant and I will certainly return the next time I'm in the area. read more

Great place in Appleton for a business dinner. We had drinks in the bar beforehand as we were a little early for our reservation. Love the look of the place; an old industrial location next to the river. We had a good view of the river watching small icebergs coming by. The service, food, wine, and beer were excellent. We had a range of dishes from appetizers to pizza to entrees to a burger, and everyone liked their food. One thing I would change is the crayons on the table with the server writing his name upside down when he greets you. This may have been an original "cool" thing to do in 1985, but now it just feels that it detracts from the class of the restaurant. I don't want that at a place where I'm paying $30 for an entrée. I get that this chain of restaurants does the crayon thing. What is good for Fox River Brewing at the Mall (lots of kids), is not good for Fratello's. It makes your chain of restaurants feel like a Macaroni Grill, which I don't think is your market. read more

Unfortunately underwhelmed by Fratellos. We're new to the area and went to check it out for my husband's birthday. In my online reservation, I stated it was his bday and that we would prefer a table close to the windows for a nice view.. upon arrival we weren't seated next to a window despite numerous open tables by them. We started with cheese curds which were average and not fresh tasting. My paella was also very average and small in the amount of seafood in it. My husband did like his fish fry but again wasn't as "wowed" as we should of been for the price. We won't be back anytime soon. read more

We had out door seating, on a holiday when other places were closed; Here, you are at the crossroads of history and habitat, by this old Mill, overlooking the Grand Chute of the Fox River. The Chicken Alfredo that I had here was better that it's award winning counter part at my home restaurant in Milwaukee.And that's a well won accomplishment. I took notice of the small sized landscapes. They are in between parking lot and restaurant proper, and in the whiskey barrels at the door. Innovative, as is the indoor space, as well. read more

This kind of place is a great way to revitalize the area. Currently in an old lumber factory along the river. Menu has a lot of options, which makes me wary - because how can one place be great at ALL of these dishes. Then again, everything I've tried has been spot on. We came here for my parents last night from California. We wanted them to be able to see the river for one last time. I was worried that I wasn't going to get a window table because you can't add that in your reservation. But don't worry about that at all. You can see the river from any table in restaurant. The windows go from floor to ceiling. Such a beautiful dining experience. Service was excellent and food was exquisite. I had to have the clam chowder because I had read that it was the best. And it was! The fried shrimp appetizer was also fantastic. The shrimps were plump and juicy. The cheese tray was also a favorite. It was filled with almonds, olives, dried cherries, cheese, and honey. I was also worried about bringing the kids here. But it was totally okay. The kids loved it and their were plenty of other kids there. This is a perfect date place but can also pass for a celebration with the whole family. read more

Right on the river, overlooking the lake, how could you really go wrong with such a location? On a nice summer day, I could see how this would be a favorite of mine if I lived in Appleton. Young, fun crowd, and young fun staff. We sat outside of course, and had Captain Crunch Chicken Tenders with honey mustard sauce, Fish and Chips, garlic bread, Polynesian Platter, and the Spinach and Artichoke Dip. All of it was DEEE-LICIOUS! My favorite standout was the Captain Crunch Chicken Tenders because those were great: unique yummy flavor, and the honey mustard sauce was the perfect complement. I ordered the curry chicken stir fry, hubby had the Fratello Burger, Dad ordered the chicken alfredo, and Mom chose the bruschetta chicken. All of us had the same consensus: boring and bland. I mean, I ordered *curry*, and it barely had any flavor! A curry! Dad's chicken alfredo and Mom's bruschetta chicken were also bland, Mom's dish only saved by the riscotto sauce which barely added at least a little bit of flavor. We all had to add salt to our dishes just to make it palatable. Hubby's dish was also nothing spectacular. He ordered his burger medium and it arrived well done. Fries were also limp and nothing special, but had a good flavor for being french fries. I bumped it up to three stars given the great location and atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. But will we come here again? Probably not. :( read more

Went here last night and loved the food. I had a cup if soup with chorizo and it was just the right amount of spicy. My entree was perfectly done and the serving size was just right. The prices are a tad high so would definitely save it for a "date night". If you are in Appleton, and looking for a fancier meal...certainly worth looking into. read more
