This is the absolute best place in Charleston to get Gelato. The gelato is creamy, rich, and flavorful. 100% recommend this place to any locals and any tourist that want to get a taste gelato! They're empandas are also wonderful. Delicious, warm, and filled with tons of flavor!! Don't forget to ask for the chimichurri sauce it goes great with the empanada! Service is wonderful too. Went for Second Sunday and it was packed. They probably had about 7 or 8 employees working in that tiny place, too. But that was a good thing and made the line move pretty quickly. A girl even came out to us while we were halfway in the doorway to ask if we wanted to try any samples. Uh, yes, please. I tried the dulce de leche temptation, which was really good but then I ended up getting the banana split and the italian mascapone. Both were super tasty but I'm in love with the italian mascapone because of those raspberry swirls. My friend and I agreed that there was way too much caramel in the banana split. I know, I know, how dare they overload my gelato with delicious caramel! But seriously, we were missing the banana flavor because all we could taste was caramel. It was $5 and some change for a small bowl, which is on par with other places like Jeni's. The bowl looks pretty small but it ended up being the perfect size when you don't want to overindulge. I'll definitely be back to try some more flavors. read more

Ice Cream was yummy and they give you a good amount! Line was a little long and they only had two people working so they seemed a little short staffed! They do have limited toppings to select from so that was also a bummer.. but the ice cream was good ! read more

The boy making our milkshakes kept touching his hair,face, and especially around his nose area around five times. It was very liquidity and the boy working when told the just shrugged his shoulders and did not offer to fix it. Affagato was not worth the price it was little and the ice cream had fully melted by the time it was given to me. There are better places to go but I would give it another chance. read more

Omg the gelato here is so yummy! If you're shopping on King Street and need a little respite from the heat, duck into Freddo. We ordered a scoop of the Italian mascarpone which is apparently "semifreddo with raspberry purée" and a scoop of passion fruit sorbet. The mascarpone was creamy and delicious and the sorbet was sweet and refreshing. Definitely some of the best gelato I had outside of Italy. read more

This is currently my favorite ice gelato place in Charleston. Though known for their dulce de leche flavor, which comes in traditional, temptation and a version with chocolate shavings, they also have a variety of other flavors AND sorbets. This being said: GET THE DULCHE DE LECHE. It's rich, creamy, decadent and a wonderful example of traditional dulce de leche. For those without as strong of a sweet tooth, more traditional flavors and sorbets are offered. Also, they have more than "just" gelato. They offer some pastries and drinks (such as teas) and mix-ins/ sundaes. Having a few more options is a really nice perk, though absolutely don't leave without getting that dulce de leche gelato! read more

The gelato here is absolutely delicious. But, you definitely pay for it. We got a brownie bite and two small, no topping, gelatos (chocolate, mango sorbet) and paid $12. I'm glad they have sorbet options because myself and my youngest daughter are both lactards. Obviously the location is very convenient but do not go in here looking to take a bathroom break or get out of the sun/heat. The 'lobby' area is quite small. Best gelato I've ever tried!!!! You can't leave without trying the Dulce de Leche!! My new favorite.. All flavors are super rich and delicious. And prices are very reasonable once you see how much you can fit in that cup (considering you can have 2 flavors). And the girls are very helpful, I sampled a bunch of flavors before making up my mind. I had a regular size cup with dulce de Leche temptation and the Tramontana cookie. I was searching for a coffee in the early afternoon when I came across Freddo Helado. At first, I walked into Starbucks and got in a massive line. I took a look at the ~20 people in front of me, decided that this was not going to work, and walked outside. My husband and I came to Charleston for a romantic trip and happened across Freddo Helado during a stroll through the neighborhood around our hotel. I am a fanatic for gelato,and they advertised Affogato on their menu of specialty items. I was sold. I ordered a gluten free chocolate chip Affogato looking forward to a small bowl of gelato with a glorious rich espresso shot poured over. My husband ordered the Nutella latte. He was handed a hot drink made from an instant Keurig style espresso machine. It was very hot and very watered down. The line was growing steadily longer and longer and the two girls working were getting flustered. At one point, one of them spoke to my husband and said that his latte was coming. We pointed out that he already had his latte and we were waiting on the Affogato. They said that what they had given us was the Affogato. This was NOT an Affogato, I explained an Affogato is not a drink, but a dessert of ice cream with espresso poured over. She got another coffee cup, put one small scoop of the gelato in and more of the instant espresso. Then she handed me a small sample spoon. Eventually when my husband got his drink several minutes later, he found it was also watered down and overly sweet. Neither drink was palatable and we tossed them at the first opportunity. The "Affogato" provided was very unsatisfactory as the gelato was grainy and the presentation showed a lack of interest in us and providing any sort of customer service. Freddo in Argentina is considered the best gelato in the world made with the best natural ingredients. We were so happy to learn Freddo was in Charleston and this location did not disappoint! We opted for a bigger cup to share so we could try more flavors (and offer better value). Our favorites are Dulce de Leche, Chocolates and Creams. The service is great and I really enjoy seeing Paige who works there often, we often talk while I eat my gelato there. Shes aways nice when i come in regularly. The prices are very high, but that is typical for this part of town and in the same Price range as competitors in the area. As for the gelato, it is very good, but I would say that there are better options in town as far as gelato quality goes. Paulos gelato takes the cake on that one. So really this is just your average downtown gelato shop. read more

First off, the helado is tasty and fresh...you can tell it has quality ingredients. That said, the prices are ridiculously high for what you get and the service is subpar. We ordered a sundae and a trifreddo, and none of the added toppings enhanced the dessert. If I were to return, I would just get the helado on its own...but I won't be back, because there are many other places I find more satisfying for $18 read more
