Out of three meals a day, breakfast is usually the one I least enjoy. We were visiting the area, looking for a local breakfast spot and came across Fred's Coffee Shop on Yelp. Given my name is Fred, my wife insisted we give it a try. We sat outside, enjoying the fresh air, the marina across the street, and NO HUMIDITY. We are from Florida. We had a platter of eggs, well done hash browns, pancakes and french toast. I have never had such great french toast.... unbelievable. The pancakes were fantastic! Hash browns done exactly as requested. Service was slow, but the server kept apologizing. With the quality... and quantity of food, well worth the wait. read more

We stopped by for breakfast on our way to the airport. We live out of state and realized a member of our party left his phone behind. We called to see if the phone was there and they confirmed. We asked if we could pay them to send it, we offered to Venmo or how ever they preferred. And offered extra for their time. They refused to help. Food was very mediocre. read more

Great breakfast spot. We had a pancake that had a nice buttermilk taste. I had the Greek omelet, added tomatoes and made it egg whites. It came with toast and a choice of potatoes or homefries. I had the homefries, they lacked flavor. The omelet was very good and large. I had a tropical ice tea, which had free refills. My husband created his own omelet. He had asked for swiss, but was given cheddar. He also asked for egg whites and was given regular. He said it was very good though. He loved the lemonade. Servers were friendly. We sat outside. Came here super early on a Sunday morning. Service was friendly and efficient. I got the Spanish saute scrambled eggs with hash browns and whole wheat toast. It was a pretty big plate which met my expectations for the price. The scrambled came out more like an omelette but I liked that everything overall wasn't greasy or salty. Hash browns were amazing. The best breakfast ever!!!! We come from Sebastopol to Sausalito every year for our wedding anniversary and we always hit Fred's on the way out of town on our way home. We got married in SF/Sausalito and come back every year to relive the memories of our wedding day. We came to Fred's the morning of our wedding before the madness and we come every year since! we'd eat here every week if we were closer!! It's a funky old, small place, but the food is always consistent and delicious. They are ALWAYS packed and busy and the servers work hard!!! I've tried many different breakfast dishes but I usually get the fat Fred, deep fried French toast cause it's the best thing!! Also, The eggs Benedict are the best eggs benny I've had! They have a little bar you can sit at and watch those amazing cooks make your food. They work like a well oiled machine and work so hard too!! It's so fun to watch!!! The rest of the main seating is communal, so you share tables with other people. It's kinda cool!! Also try to come during non peak hours, or you'll be waiting ! What a surprise gem. I have to admit I wasn't expecting much from this little old school shop, but it was exactly what I was craving post hike. I got the turkey sandwich (roasted turkey breast, arugula, roasted tomato, basil, fresh mozzarella), which was so good. I forgot how delicious a turkey sandwich could be when done right. The turkey breast was super juicy (like ham levels of juiciness), and the mozzarella and roasted tomatoes paired so well together with the dresser arugula. For my side I got the sweet potato fries which weren't the most amazing (some fries were too hard) but hard to dislike sweet potato fries. Also took a bite of the Swedish pancakes and eggs and was really impressed as well. The eggs were folded like a French omelette and super soft and buttery, which I wasn't expecting from the diner like menu (which usually cook eggs more overcooked / with large curds). And the Swedish pancake despite being super thin still tasted fluffy and I liked the ever so slight crispiness of the edges. read more

NOT open when website says - 7am Sunday. Arrived at 7:24 to be told in a rude, blunt manner that they're not open until 7:30 am. We sit in car. Another couple walks in and we enter shortly after only to witness the same rude waitress speak in a blunt, negative manner. Whatever happened to - "Sorry, we open at 7:30 even though everywhere online says 7 am. Grab a seat and I'll be with you shortly." I had a really delightful breakfast here with a friend after we did an open water training swim. It's casual enough that we felt comfortable coming in bike gear and sweats with salty wet hair; we got zero side-eye from other Saturday breakfasters. Every inch of space is maximized inside and out, but the feel is cozy rather than crowded. We sat outside and appreciated the overhead heaters, which kept the Fogust chill at bay. When I went in to wash up, I was impressed with how clean and airy the gender-neutral bathroom was. I had the Captain Mike's scramble. The pico de gallo was homemade and fresh, with plenty of cilantro. The potatoes were perfectly roasted, with a blend of fingerlings and sweet potatoes. I liked the eggs, but in a perfect world without cholesterol worries, I definitely would add cheese. I didn't try the super-thick-sliced house bacon, but it might be worth a second visit just to try it. The staff was very friendly and prompt. They kept the coffee coming and kept offering even after our plates were cleared. Seeing how busy it was we didn't linger long, but I appreciated not being rushed as soon as the bill was settled. One of our favorite breakfast joints in Sausalito and Marin County. We came here to meet some family from out of town who were visiting and to celebrate my birthday with them. This place is definitely always hoping with people. It is first come first serve and one of the few places that can accommodate a group of 9 people. The menu selection is vast and plentiful. The service has always been great and the food is fantastic even for a picky eater such as myself..lol You have to try the French Toast and the Million Dollar Bacon if you go. Although this review is being posted later than intended, I wanted to make sure it was done because this place truly deserves the praise. A couple of weekends ago, my girlfriend and I came here for a delightful Sausalito brunch. Despite not being located directly by the water, we took a pleasant walk from the pier, and the experience was well worth it. The staff members were exceptionally friendly. The atmosphere felt like a family-owned establishment, and I just had such a positive time eating there. They were happy to help answer our questions and checked in on us every now and again to make sure we were having a good meal. For our brunch, we ordered the 'Fat Fred' - a fried French Toast with banana and candied walnuts, accompanied with a 'side' of Fred's Hash Browns. We also indulged in the bottomless mimosas; I got the bitter (grapefruit) and she got the classic (orange). Honestly my only suggestion would be to consider elevating the Fred's Hash Brown to a main menu item. I believe it could become what the place is known for (if it is not already). Just one suggestion, please remove the portion at the top of the menu where is says you can substitute Millionaire's Bacon for $3. I tried to substitute the Canadian bacon on the Classic Benedict for Millionaire's Bacon & the server was thrown off & I was like well it says it here on the menu... Anyways. We came here twice for breakfast while traveling in Sausalito a few weeks ago. We got there right when they opened for breakfast each time. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Our server was so kind and kept our coffee mugs filled. The coffee was good and all of the ingredients used in our meals were fresh and good quality. We enjoyed the waffles with fresh fruit, blackstone benedict with Fred's sweet bacon, the corned beef hash and egg plates. Everything was hot and delicious. This place is really cute! My friends and I came here after a long hike nearby and our hanger was real! I bookmarked a few places near by and we picked this spot. It was a nice day so we decided to eat outside. I ordered an omelette ( forgot the name, sorry!) And it came with what I call rainbow potatoes, not your normal house potatoes but the are delish! Service was really friendly and fast, despite having a lot of customers! Very welcoming small business. Definitely a good and yummy alternative to more pricey brunch spots off of Bridgeway. After a morning hike at Muir Woods, my friends and I came here for brunch to revive our energy. We were seated right away at 11:30am on a Saturday. Their indoors seating is a bit strange with large round tables as we almost had to share our table with another party. Instead, we decided to chose a table outside despite it being a bit windy. While my friends ordered brunch items, I decided to go for the Bacon Cheeseburger ($14) with fries. If only you could see everyone's faces as they walked pass our table staring at my burger, you'd understand how epic this burger was. It may be an understatement to say that it's huge! I honestly had to take a bite from the top half of the burger and then the bottom because it was impossible to eat it in one bite. The burger was yummy and stacked with ingredients, which I'd totally order again. I do wish the fries it came with were more crisp and flavorful though. As for my friends' meals, they had the Avocado Scramble ($17) and Crab Scramble ($19). I was quite disappointed with the presentation of the food, which just looked very standard and plain. We arrived bright and early on Father's Day Sunday and were able to get a table for six outside with no problem. We were able to move an umbrella to give ourselves a little shade, since it was already sunny and warm at 830 a.m. The menu is expansive and full of what you would expect from a breakfast/brunch/lunch diner, plus a few other things. We got a mix of omelettes (I got the Greek, which was great) and scrambles, plus some french toast and sides of sausage and bacon. We saw a podium against the wall that was not staffed. The sign read "wait to be seated". The podium had disposable utensils on it and looked more like a work station. We walked in to talk to the host/hostess to get on the waiting list past a couple drinking coffee standing up. We were rudely told to wait outside by an employee. Another employee outside rudely handed us a clipboard and told us to sign up and that the couple drinking coffee were in front of us. That was the same employee we walked past while he was serving a table outside. He dropped a plate on the table and spilled a drink and was loudly telling the patrons that it was OK and not a big deal. There was no sign indicating to sign up. The place is small, loud and smelled like frying oil. Needless to say that we felt that paying customers should not be treated rudely. It doesn't take much to be polite no matter how busy or understaffed. We left and went to Anchorage 5. We gave it a 5 star! read more

I heard of this place for a while and keep seeing it on Places to Eat in Sausalito lists, so finally gave it a try. Came here for brunch recently and had an egg dish with hashbrowns & toast. I picked one that had a lot of good ingredients and it was marked as hot/spicy and it was kind of bland for my taste. Hash browns were okay, as was the toast, but nothing special.
