Freedman not only had the largest selection of diamonds with the specs I was considering, but also had the best prices. I went to five other jewelers, and none of them came close with price or selection. Further, the experience was wonderful. They spent so much time teaching me about diamonds, comparing stones in different lights, and finally helping me custom design the mounting. This last part was incredible, as they digitally designed the entire ring, revised it in CAD several times, then 3D printed it in wax to ensure it was right. She loved it and the ring is STUNNING. We randomly bumped into the store one day when we were looking for a different store in the building. We worked with Josh to find the perfect ring for me. I liked during our first meeting, he wasn't pushy in making a sale and worked with us to find suggestions to match the Etsy ring my fiancee bought me. He provided great insight and suggestions on the center stone and the width of the band. He also made suggestions when we were picking out the center stone and ended with a stone that was within our budget and still looks nice :) Josh kept us in the loop with updates before the ring was made and in the end, we ended up with a custom ring (mash up of three rings they had). That's the kind of referral people want, to know that this place has been helping out you know well for a long time. I went to a ton of places but a strong referral and my overall experience with Freedmans is what led to me choosing them. Buying and engagement ring: I believed I was really smart about buying an engagement ring, I bought my own diamond off blue nile and thought I was going to make out way better just asking Freedmans to set the stone. While they didn't say I shouldn't follow through with my original plan, I was convinced within 2 visits that Freedmans provided much better options for stones. The blue nile stones just had all the same specs and ratings on paper but side by side physically they did not look as good compared to the GIA stones Freedmans provided. I consider it the reason why blue nile stones are slighty cheaper ( because they are slightly lower quality) While Freedmans was agnostic and willing to accommodate any scenario, I ultimately chose one of the many stones they provided and sent my blue nile one back. I had a pretty specific idea of what I wanted for a custom engagement ring and Robert worked with me custom make that ring idea into reality. He custom created a perfect ring within my budget and worked with me on the pricing. They were very patient the whole time and payed for my parking every visit at their garage. Most importantly: The end result could not have come out better. 11 months later I asked them to make a matching wedding band, Robert got all of the same matching side stones and same quality and created a perfectly matching custom wedding band. Yelp removed my original review because they said I didn't give enough details... So here goes round two: We have been shopping for diamonds now for at least a month and have visited multiple vendors both inside and outside of the jewelry district. We found Freedman to offer the best prices out of everyone for quality stones. Steve may not have as many unique cut stones (as we were looking for asschers) in stock at the store as other vendors but was more than happy to order a few for us to look at. I definitely suggest you shop around but I recommend shopping Freedmans last as they offer the same quality stones as everyone else for thousands less (no joke we made an excel sheet to comparison shop). Do your homework and then go see Steve. He's a little intense but a super nice guy and a straight shooter. read more

A family friend had recommended this jeweler to me for sometime, and I spoke and met with Rob at Freedman Jewelers in my search for an engagement ring last month. From our first conversation, I knew I was talking to a true professional who wasn't feeding me fluff in any way. Rob gave me a full breakdown of certified stones, which is something a lot of other jewelers in the area seemed to skip around. He recommended buying only GIA cert stones, and maybe sometimes AGA certs, which after some thorough review since then, I have found is so very important. When I went engagement ring shopping, I visited three jewelers in Boston. One was Joseph Gann, one was Freedman's, and one was ADCO Diamonds, each highly rated on yelp and google. I had great experiences at the other two jewelers. At Freedman's within about 5 minutes of sitting down with a salesman, it was clear to both of us that there would be no sale. It was not that he was pushy, but it really felt like I was buying a used car that day. When you go to a jewelery store, one of the most important things is that they make you feel comfortable in the surroundings, and with your purchase. Freedman's made me feel uncomfortable within just a few minutes. With so many other jewelers in Boston, I don't see any reason to shop here. read more

I had the same experience as Paul G. when I bought my wife's engagement ring in June of 2004. I did actually know a little about diamonds going in, I had been looking at rings at a few other places. I worked with Rob (can't recall his last name) and told him exactly what I was looking for and what price range, and he actually showed me a number of loose diamonds and let me choose the one that fit my budget and had the cut, clarity, color, and carat weight I was looking for. I had the stone set in white gold with sapphire sidestones which I hadn't picked out, but they turned out to be of very high quality when I picked up the ring (as well as the setting itself). The price was very reasonable, the atmosphere friendly and informative and not pushy at all - as if they actually care about educating their customers and aren't just after a sale. My wife and I went here to purchase an anniversary ring and we were assisted by one of the wife of the owner, who was VERY helpful, friendly and welcoming. We were very happy with the purchase. Two days later one of the diamonds fell out of the ring. Fortunately we found it and they put it back in. Stones fall out, but they shouldn't that quickly. Overall we were happy with them so we've tried to use them again now twice and both interactions have been negative. The first time we went to have a stone set--something they previously said would be no problem--and they said they rudely said they couldn't do it. More recently, I called to ask if they could resize a few rings. The person I spoke to over the phone was very unhelpful and wouldn't even provide an estimate of price or time unless I came in--three other jewelers I called had no problem doing so. Based on our last in-person visit, we'll go elsewhere now. I hate to leave such a bad review for a small business, but they really need to improve their customer service. read more

First and foremost - she said yes - The entire team at Freedman Jewelers is amazing, there is no other way to put it. I was thrilled when a friend told me he had an amazing experience getting his ring made there and passed me along to Josh who end to end handled every question I had. The team was able to give me clear information about all aspects of the ring, from stone sizing, to different cuts and the advantages of each style, everything that I didn't even know I should have known about they helped me understand. And not once over the entire process did I feel pressured or encouraged into making a choice that I was not 100% confident in. I was able to see multiple stones, multiple settings, and combinations in one sitting with ease. Once I chose the perfect stone it was a seamless process to designing a band and setting to fit it properly to highlight the diamonds brilliance. I do not live in Boston so putting a lot of faith in the experts was a hesitation at first, but I was given daily updates, pictures, and even descriptions of what was going on by phone, text, and email every step of the way. After the big day the ring was not the perfect size (that was my fault! Not wanting to tip my fiancé off) but the team immediately suggested that I bring it in (send it to them) and they had it back to us within 24 hours! Unbelievable level of service. About 2 months ago, I went to Freedman Jewelers to purchase an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I had a very specific idea in mind and wanted to make sure that was exactly what I was looking for, as well getting it at a good price. My experience working with Robert Van, who is one of the jewelers there, was better than anything I could have asked for. He has a keen eye for detail and was able to make the ring look better than anything I had thought of. He was also very respectful in helping me work within my budget and getting the best bang or my buck, better than any chain jeweler I had looked at previously. Through out the process, I got regular updates and CAD drawings of what the ring was going to look like. The final product was beautiful and my now fiancé adores it. After 9 years I finally got to pick a ring. Exciting but daunting...we contacted Freedman Jewelers for general info and Robert responded. We tried two other jewelers in the building but were severely disappointed at their level of service. If we're giving you thousands of dollars you should at the very least treat us with respect, right? Robert went beyond respect. He helped us pick a beautiful diamond and took us down a notch when it looked like we were going out of budget. He also helped me to get in a ring that was not in stock. It turns it that the ring co has strict regulations on samples. He went way out of his way to get it in store. And when they sent the wrong one he managed to get the right one delivered overnight on a Saturday! It wasn't perfect so he also worked to have it customized at no additional charge.
