Started out with French Onion Soup. Good soup, lots of flavor, and generous portion. Black truffle potato gnocchi was delicious. Not overwhelming on the truffle flavor, which I enjoy. I am sorry to say, I was not impressed. The seating in the "chalet" is cute! The ambiance was fantastic since it was snowing outside! The wait staff less than inviting! One waiter on his phone most of the evening. And it was quite disgusting when a waiter was bringing in more glasses for the tables and he was holding the top glass with his chin in the glass. Not sanitary by any means! The food was not fantastic. We ordered the escargot and it was ok. More sauce than escargot. There was more bread than escargot. It's not an appetizer for more than two people because you only get 6 escargot. The Raclette.....disappointing! Really only cheese with a little bit of meats. It's definitely not charcuterie! Got plenty of cornichons. Maybe four pieces of a small loaf of bread not a baguette! This is definitely not something worth ordering. The duck was pretty good. We were here for christmas eve and everything was decent besides the fact that our reservation was at 7:15 and we ended up getting seated at 7:40. The food was pretty good and our waiter was very nice, however we are here today on the 26th for a brunch and our waitress is very rude. first she cuts me off when i'm ordering the starters because she was so compelled to tell me what the special was even though it was basically the same as the other day. we then started off to order our mains and asked for a burger. and my boyfriend also asked for a diet coke. however as more food started to come our diet coke never came and they gave us the wrong order. when I confronted her about getting the wrong order. her first reaction was not to apologize but to (in a very nasty tone) question why we didn't stop her when she was repeating the order to us. to be honest she speaks like a mosquito where i couldn't hear shit. later on her manager came to apologize. Visited here in March 2022 - Amazing experience! Very cozy and inviting, I loved the rustic vibes. It really transported me to France. It was like a whole other world. And even though it was chilly outside, inside was comfortable and warm. We came here for a late after dinner snack / drinks - 9pm. Had the cheese fondue with the charcuterie and a bottle of wine (no corkage fee!!! so awesome especially when visiting from the east coast where everywhere has a corkage fee). This place was such a delight. We were in town for a destination wedding and our hiking plans for the day were interrupted by rain, so we decided to go for an early lunch instead. We got here early enough to get a nice cozy table right before the place filled up. Everything about this place is delightful starting with the cozy chic ambiance and views of the mountain to the French music and extremely kind and professional staff to their delicious food. You are paying for the ambiance here! And do not let it fool you... We walked in and granted we were not dressed in furs and heels (just lululemon) but I honestly have not felt more out of place. We were put in a corner and ordered a charcuterie platter and wine, which came out pretty fast and was decent. After that we ordered dinner and watched two other tables arrive after us, eat three courses, and leave. Someone then asked us if we wanted a dessert menu and we hadn't gotten the food yet- when it came the gnocchi was oily and over cooked and the French market crepe or whatever it was is basically an unwrapped burrito pinned together on top like a giant dumpling. We were extremely excited for the season's opening and made a reservation in advance in order to enjoy what looked to be a fantastic spot in downtown Aspen. Making and securing a reservation was a bit precarious (my husband made the reservation online but then received no less than 5 calls trying to confirm the time and date the day before the reservation which was a bit taxing). We arrived about 20 minutes early and saw a lovely fire and benches and simply wanted to see if we could enjoy a drink prior to being seated. We were promptly told our table was ready so we gladly followed to hostess into the "chalet" (an outdoor extension of the main restaurant). We were sat next to a party of at least 10 people (half of them loud children). We were immediately put off as this was not the quiet, romantic French bistro experience we were hoping for. Many servers buzzed around us while we waited - many tables sat after us were attended to while we...waited. Finally, we asked two servers if someone could come to take our drink order - we were curtly told our server was downstairs and would be a while. We were disappointed with this response as numerous other tables around us were readily receiving drinks and attention from staff. Finally, a server took our drink order. We also asked if we could be seated elsewhere as the loud party next to us was, well, very loud. We were told they had paid and should be leaving soon and that we could not be moved. Again, this was ruining our experience before we even started. We noticed someone walking to each table and quickly realized it was the owner. We expressed our dissatisfaction and she apologized profusely and offered us a round of drinks. We ordered the fondue for three and charcuterie and honestly, the food was fabulous. We came for the fondue and it delivered for sure - delicious melted cheese, meats and bread. We were surprised by how filling it was and then ordered a midnight in Paris crepe for dessert. We asked for whipped cream and sadly, the crepe came without the cream. We ended up waiting almost 10 minutes for the cream to arrive so it was cold by the time we were able to dig in. It was delicious albeit again, it did not arrive as we wanted and in a timely fashion. The bill arrived and we were disappointed to see the free drinks on the bill. We did mention this to our server who did remove them along with a beer. Overall, the food was a 5- it was absolutely fabulous. The wine and cocktail selection is also a 5. The space, experience and ambience, a 2 at best. The outdoor extension was not cozy and felt cold (it was also super loud because of the large party next to us). The music was also Spanish, not French which also was strange given the expected atmosphere. It was opening night of the season so hopefully the service issues will work themselves out. A hidden gem in Aspen. The decor of this restaurant speaks to its French theme. It is a small place underneath the Radio ski shop but that shouldn't be a deterrent. You can sit at a bar but they have one large table for large groups, so you'll need a reservation. The service was excellent and so was the food. Their menu is expansive! Hard to think how they could have so many different dishes. As many have said the French Onion soup is a MUST! Falling back on my Italian roots I had the Truffle Nookies (Knochis to those who aren't Italian) which were flavored deliciously. I've had a lot in my day and these were immaculate. Although I sat at the bar, the manager made sure I was attended to the moment I closed my menu, and were very accessible. When I come to a place like Aspen, this is what I'm looking for, not all the cookie cutter steak houses and other restaurants that are more plastic than my skis! DELICIOUS. So so so worth it. We wandered into French Alpine Bistro just based on a very quick Yelp review. I didn't want something entirely pretentious in Aspen, and I also wanted something quickly because I was so so hungry. We were seated in their super beautiful outdoor patio (it is DECKED out, great for Instagram photos), and sat down for a fulfilling lunch. Got the French onion soup, beef bourguignon, and a crepe. Each dish hit exactly what you'd expect a French bistro to provide. Eating each bite was pure joy and bliss. I would say that the crepe probably was the least exciting of all the dishes we had. On the day I arrived, and had made a reservation for 5:00 so that I could eat outside. The table for four outdoors at the base of the stairs on the right was not available, so I was told, but there was another one that was fully outside beside an ineffective heater which I could have. We did. As a result, despite the blankets, we were cold. The food was cold too. The menu has eroded and the prices have gone up. The table I wanted? Unfortunately, we did not have the best experience at French Alpine Bistro. We saved this dining experience for our last night in Aspen, as we had heard it was supposed to be a special restaurant. We took our time exploring the menu, starting with cocktails and French onion soup. We later ordered the fondue, which was delicious. There was an extremely rude hostess (blonde/brown hair, wearing an orange turtleneck on Saturday 10/7) that cleared our fondue dishes. We told her we would like to talk with our server, Emiliano (who was fabulous), and order the Midnight in Paris because it had come highly recommended. She announced loudly that "your table was for 1 hr and 45 minutes and you have been here over two hours. We need to give your table to another guest and you cannot order dessert". There is nothing on the website that mentions a time limit and we were never informed of a time limit upon checking in for our reservation. Furthermore, this reservation was made by the concierge team at the St. Regis Aspen, who was also never notified of a time limit. I told her that this was a special weekend trip for my mother, and that we were excited to order the Midnight in Paris as it was recommended from a prior manager of the French Alpine Bistro (Bradley). She said she would need to speak to the manager and get back to us. She never returned. Five minutes later, a dessert showed up on our table. We felt extremely uncomfortable, ate our dessert and left as soon as we could pay the bill. The servers were lovely but we will never forget the way we were treated or made to feel by this particular hostess. As patrons of many fine dining establishments, we have never been treated this way before. We would have respected a time limit if we had been informed, but we were never made aware and then shamed into leaving as soon as possible in front of other guests (the outside patio is quite small). We returned to our hotel and told the concierge team at the St. Regis and they were stunned. They then asked if the dessert was comped, we said no. They were speechless. We are happy to pay in full, but no one came over to even apologize for this individual's behavior. It put a damper on our last evening and we will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to our many friends that frequent Aspen, as well as will be writing an email to the concierge team at the St. Regis to no longer advise their guests to dine there. read more

The aromas and smells of the dinners and desserts brought my wife and I in off the street. We had already eaten dinner elsewhere and we thought we were too full for dessert, but we couldn't resist. We first sat at the bar as we waited for a table to open. We ordered a Schokoladepalatschinke and from our seat at the bar we could see them make this unpronounceable treat. My wife had actually read about this dish before we got to town. When a table opened, we moved to a two person table and ate our dessert there. It was delicious. We ate every morsel. The atmosphere was perfect. Nobody pressed us to eat and make room for others. I'm not quite sure how to say something is overpriced for the value received when I'm dining in a high dollar tourist-centric town, but this place was Late lunch at about 2:45, hostess was very friendly, and seated us promptly in the " chalet" area of the restaurant. We were given water and menus and then waited. We were seated very close to another 2 diners that had obviously been enjoying a bottle of wine for a bit, and had developed a relationship with the server, with whom they continued to chat, the server no more than 2 feet from me. After an extended time the other diners cajoled the server into preparing something special for them, and the server left the area- no acknowledgement of our existence. Several other servers were busy in the area, but always moving too fast or too far away for us to hail. Still waiting and trying to discern who, if any server had been assigned to us, the server from the next table appeared and seemed as if she had just seen us for the first time... Nothing worthy of typing more after this- the food arrived it was adequate, nothing worthy of the price or hype I had the Farmer's Market Quiche ( dried out and not fresh tasting) and the Salade de Chèvre Chaud , my dining partner had the Salade Légère and Caprese Panini with chips Our server was obviously not interested nor engaged in serving us, and checked back immediately after we had gotten our entrees, hadn't a chance to taste, then was gone for the remainder of our time there. Tourist trap. Definitely not worth the money. There are so many fondue and crepe places around. They do take advantage of tourists. 1st- $35 a person w a minimum of two ppl for the fondue. And the waiter tried to up-sell us at every chance. We ordered the fondue and we expected to have some veggies come with it. No, the fondue came with stale bread, Granny Smith apples and 4 pieces of terrible salami, which both I and my daughter spit out. They brought it out with a huge pot of cheese but the salami and the apples are only brought out on a 3x8 inches wooden plate. So you have to ask for more, which they will bring out more apples but will charge more for the salami (ironic). We didn't ask for more of any of it. The bread was too hard to where I thought it was last night's left over bread. 2- $42 a person w a minimum of two ppl need to order. We ordered the steak, which we cooked on a hot stone. There was plenty of steak and it was ok. The sides of the sauces were very small. (Annoying have to ask for more) 3- the croque monseur was delicious. 4- the waiter acted as if every question was the first time he'd ever been asked it. We asked how long to cook the steak. He had no clue. We had to ask for extra fondue sticks. And every request was met with a look of horror. Maybe they don't have enough to go around? 5. We don't mind paying a lot for great quality. I had really high expectations for this place, and was super excited for our dinner. We made a reservation for Saturday night but it wasn't needed as the place was 60% empty the entire time we were there. It was a good experience overall but it didn't wow me at all. French Alpine Bistro is a bit tucked away and located on a basement of a corner building but it's impossible to miss. They have an outdoor area and seems like it's super popular as you can just relax, have a glass of wine and people watch. We opted out for the inside area as the weather didn't look too promising. Decor: cute! Food ok...presentation could be better. French onion was not bad but there was nothing different from any other places. Truffle gnocchis were soft little pillows of yumminess but presentation needs some work. Menu was limited but I was fine with it, however, my friend said that she wished they had a better selection for people with low carb diet restrictions. We visited French Alpine for dinner last month during our stay in Aspen. The location is a tucked away in a small but intimate downtown Aspen. The ambiance is breath-taking and very warm for an intimate date. I had a generic drink which did not need too much craftness so I am unable to review the drinks and their creativity. The food however could be better from both the appetizer and the main course. We started with the steak tarter and the french onion soup. The tartar was bland and perhaps for more of a softer pallet. The main course was also bland in taste. The establishment was very busy while we visited, thus I am sure they do host delicious food. I will try it again for perhaps a better experience. Walking out of the restaurant, I was not only still hungry, but knowing I just paid $105 (including the tip) for an unsatisfying meal made me a bit sick to my stomach. It's possible to get a great experience for that price: you've been to that fancy restaurant before, the one that serves you a small portion but, in that small portion, there is a culinary experience that makes you appreciate the time and effort the kitchen staff put behind delivering that special meal. This is not the place for that experience. For about $40 per small entree, you definitely get the tourist bill but in my opinion, the meal was subpar. On top of everything, our server ask us if we want bread, he brings some over and says it is from lunch and is hard. He sets it down and then tells us if we want fresh bread to let him know. We browsed yelp for lunch restaurants and were intrigued by the French cuisine. Boy did we have no idea what we were in for! Cozy doesn't even begin to describe this. WOW! Honestly the best meal we had in Aspen. Pricy? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely. Our lunch began with craft cocktails, a spicy jalapeño margarita and an old fashioned with local breckenridge bourbon. Awesome drinks, wine is also offered by the glass or bottle. We split the French onion soup as an app, delicious with oozing guyere cheese. Another app option we were torn between was the escargot. One entree was the wagyu burger, which we ordered medium rare, but it came out medium well. Nevertheless, the burger was very filling and the French fries were extremely fresh, like they just chopped the potatoes while we were there. The gnocchi was soft, savory and full of flavor with pieces of bacon and melted cheese. As an option, you can add black truffle topping. I choose to do that, but I will warn you -- the menu says market price and market price was $40, $3 more than my gnocchi entree. Thus, the entree with black truffle with run you about $77. I was very full and took about half of my food back to the hotel. Made for great leftovers the next day, tastes just as fresh. Lunch ran us about $200 with 1 app, 2 drinks and 2 entrees. There is an option for $150/pp for a 3 course meal that includes an app, entree, and a dessert. The creme brûlée looked bomb, but they also have crepes if that's your thing. Service was awesome, the vibe was very cozy and we will be back! read more

Went there on a week night with my wife. Reservation is needed. We wanted to try fondue and this is a famous place for it. I also wanted to try other entrees but minimum fondue is order for 2. I enjoyed the fondue experience as it is a different way of dining. After few dipped bread pieces in melted cheese, the experience gets old quickly and for that part, I give 3 stars but then comes the chocolate crepe and they gets 5 stars so the average is 4 star overall. The crepe was so tasty chocolate thin layers rolled and filled with strawberry and banana. If I had to do it over, I would skip the fondu and try different crepes or other entrees but for now, I can say, I did try fondue so mission was accomplished! The most wonderful little dinner in all of Aspen! Easy to make a reservation, and we were seated in one of the best seats in the house--downstairs overlooking the patio and the stars above. We had escargots for starters, hubby had the boeuf bourguignon and I tried the Nirvana--a thai green curry crépe that was outstanding, and I'm glad I ventured off the "French" path! Hubby's beef dish was excellent, with soft, fresh pappardelle out of this world! We finished it off with the Midnight in Paris, of course--absolutely delicious and such a thoughtful dessert! Very romantic ambiance and lovely wine list. Our server was an absolute sweetheart--I regret that I can't remember his name, but nonetheless, everyone we encountered during our visit was welcoming and sincerely friendly.
