My neighbor brought me here for a belated birthday dinner. I was pleased to see their dinner menu differs from what they have posted online - huge plus "Fish of the Day" made my choice so much easier from having to modify what they had posted online. Had their menus actually jived, I may have given them 5 stars - because less anxiety for the picky girl. But I digress. I ordered the fish of the day - Salmon grilled to perfection, flaky, moist, yummy. It was delicious. My friend ordered the ribeye medium rare, but it came out medium. She was going to keep it, but when the manager came to the table, I convinced her to "get what she ordered". It took a few minutes, but she was glad she sent it back. It was just what she wanted. The sides were good. The sauces were awesome. The wine was good. The desserts were really good. Orange creme brûlée & chocolate raspberry creme brûlée. I'm a creme brûlée snob. I'm not a huge fan of either orange, chocolate or raspberries, and would have preferred the option of a traditional creme brûlée, but that's probably boring. Anyway, surprisingly, the orange creme brûlée kicked the chocolate raspberry creme brûlée's butt. Seriously - it tasted like a dreamsicle (only better) & the chocolate raspberry tasted more like a mousse with the crunchy top. Anyway, it's fun to say (and write) creme brûlée, but even more fun to eat it. Yum! Not a perfect experience, but it was really good food & good service. I would probably come back again. Cute and quiet atmosphere, affordable menu and friendly staff. The food selection is nice. My husband and I went on a Saturday afternoon and enjoyed the calamari, catfish ponchartrain and peppered pork tenderloin. Everything had a nice flavor and the quality was nice. The side options are good, too. They have the usual rice, but also include a vegetable and potato option if rice isn't your thing. The menu has a variety of Gluten free options and also marks items that include pork, if that's something you avoid. The food was flavorful and filling. read more

What a find! My server, Brooke, was great, as was the food. I ordered seafood gumbo which came out of the kitchen so hot, I had to let it cool before I could eat it! It was as good as any gumbo I've had, and I've eaten a lot of gumbo! I ordered the fried shrimp, which were truly remarkable in that they were not covered up with superfluous spices. They were perfectly fried and served piping hot with a nice tartar sauce and grilled corn ( I declined the additional side that came with the shrimp). Ten fried jumbo shrimp were $18.95... a true bargain in Austin! read more

Cozy cajun shop that still has that New Orleans flair. They have a great menu at a nice price, so its easy to have a great meal, especially considering how much some other cajun places are in town. Wife and I came here for our anniversary after years of scheming to come here and finally, we did it. The bread they start you off with has a compound butter on the side which was quite nice. As for the bread itself, it isn't your traditional New Orleans style french bread - its softer on the inside and more pillowy. Not a bad thing necessarily, just not what I expected. For appetizers, we started with the crawfish beignets. These things are amazing. They're the size of hushpuppies with the texture of a beignet. There's large chunks of crawfish in there and dunk perfectly in the tartar sauce and remoulade. For my lunch, I got a catfish gumbo plate with red beans and rice - seasonal veggies turned out to be squash. The red beans and rice are some of the best I've had anywhere - I could definitely see myself just ordering a bowl of that on it's on. It's more gumbo like than other red beans and rice I've had elsewhere and the beans aren't exploded either, which is great in my book. The gumbo over the catfish has the dark smoky flavor from a well cooked roux and the blackened catfish is large, moist and well seasoned. Dirty rice adds another flavor bomb on top of that. Wife got a fried shrimp etouffee which was also very good. Jumbo shrimp, dusted in cornmeal and fried to perfection over a nice buttery etouffee. Some of the best shrimp I've had. Service could have been a bit better, but they're packed at lunch time. It's easy to see why though, and will definitely be back one day. read more

Why have I only lived here for 22 years and it's only 10 min from my house ! Took my mother in law here for dinner for her birthday. Everything we ordered was phenomenal but wished we could have tried the crawfish beignet but our waitress forgot to place it in .. bummer! I had the chicken Oscar and the chicken was cooked to perfect with the buttery lemon sauce! My daughter had the Chicken Pesto Pasta and was very delicious too! The other two had one of the main salmon entrees. Seems a little small but was very tasty. We ordered the key lime cheesecake and again delicious! Came on a Saturday at 7, not busy, cute little restaurant just across from Walmart. The decor is very ole school booth/ table mix with fleur de lis and mardi gras mask scattered throughout. The wait staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The seafood gumbo was really good but wasn't as spicy as I was expecting. The reason for the three stars: being a Louisiana girl I can say that French bread or crackers are a staple when it comes to gumbo and neither were available. While it was served with a roll, French bread wasn't even an option and left me disappointed. I ordered the French quarter salmon however the combination of the salmon and balsamic reduction/oil with tomatoes didn't end up being a good combination and ended up tasting sour. I came searching for a little taste of home, with jazz and gumbo but between the 80s music and no French bread just felt it missed the mark and couldn't rate it 5 stars. Tip for the owner: Swap out the 80s music for a streaming jazz channel on Spotify. Trade out the rolls for French bread. Ditch the checkered paper liners. My wife and I had planned our visit to French Quarter Grille and made reservations for Valentine's Day. When we got there we were greeted they were very friendly and seated us right away as we were right on time for our time. We got a booth seating and our waitress was very friendly and knew the menu she did a great job. The food was super delicious . The depth of flavor and seasoning was well done. We will be back and we have decided to make this one of our traditions. Price wise it was on par for the quality of food and customer service. If you come to eat here and you get appetizers and entrees with desserts it is gonna be expensive but the price is priced well considering quality of food and the great customer service! If we had one thing we wished was different is table spacing. Seating is a bit close but overall experience and food to include ambiance is an A . Great place to eat. French Quarter Grille is beyond it's caliber. From the clean romantic atmosphere, to the quick and friendly service, with decedent food; This restaurant is for sure to go in my book. Service- Upon arrival the host was very quick witted and sharp. She told us it would take about 30 minutes to be seated which we were ok with. Surprisingly it only took 10 minutes to be seated. I'm so terrible with names but I believe it was only one lady with glasses serving us. She was very attentive and friendly. You can tell she loved what she does and not being fake for a tip. One other server was short and made sure we NEVER run out of water. We have halfway full glasses and he would come fill it every time. We also were greeted by an older gentleman that asked us about our first time being at the restaurant. I want to believe he was the owner but I'm not quit sure. I'm assuming as he stood by and occasionally partakes in exchange of pleasantries with customers. The staff are absolutely amazing. Everyone does their job exemplary well and a positive attitude and quick service Food- Man. I don't even have the word for the food. Soo very fresh and full all flavor. Growing up in a Southern Louisiana household, I'm very picky about creole/Cajun food. The crawfish beignets taste like a warm, soft, and fresh meat pie you would get in New Orleans. It came with two dipping sauces one tasted like jalapeño and the other tasted like remoulade sauce which is my favorite. I also had the Chicken Benjamin. Oh man when I say explosive euphoric texture, taste and flavor; I mean that from the depth of my soul. Soft, juicy, a little crunchy from the fry, wrapped in a thin salty layer of Salomon, topped with crawfish and wrapped around a puddle of etouffe (etouffee was not brown, my real Louisianians will understand this statement). This chicken Benjamin is a seafood lovers dream. It was served with delicious zucchini and yellow squash which is my absolute favorite. To top it off you have the choice to eat it with white, dirty rice, or jalapeño mashed potatoes. I've never had jalapeño mashed potatoes so I decided to give it a try and was absolutely sensational. As the night we looked at the dessert menu that had a lot of great choices. I choose the chocolate raspberry creamer brûlée'. I love chocolate, I love crime brûlée, and raspberries so you definitely can't go wrong with that. I do wish the top layer had a thicker layer for the crunch but I assume because it's chocolate it would have a different texture. I also wish there were more raspberries on top or maybe inside. Just a wild thought but a raspberry purre drizzled on top with raspberries. To add a little more tartness to a big sweet chocolate brûlée. Overall this restaurant is definitely one to try. We were lucky to have cozy table in the corner bench seat. Love the fact that they don't have tables for two people so that you can sit side by side. The lighting is low and the ambiance feels upscale though dress is casual. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and attentive. They are prompt in refilling your water glass which they give you with a fresh lemon wedge. The food is well prepared and fresh tasting. The portion sizes are not large. It is the type of place where you go for the atmosphere, to experience foods that are well presented, drink wine, and eat amazing deserts .. a dining experience. They start you off with fresh baked bread that is warm. The shrimp gumbo soup is fresh and flavorful. The mahi mahi fish is fresh tasting and prepared to perfection. The French Quarter Grille sits in a strip center in the middle of a Walmart parking lot. I have been going to various businesses in the strip center since it was built and have never noticed the French Quarter Grille. Several days ago I was looking for a steak for dinner, so I consulted Yelp. The French Quarter Grille came up in my search. I almost had a difficult time finding it because I had driven past it so many times without recognizing that it was a restaurant. I was extremely happy with all of the recommendations on Yelp. This restaurant seems to be a small family run operation. There are approximately 25 tables in the entire restaurant in the kitchen is visible from most of the tables. I believe there were three waiters the night I was there. When I arrived there were only several tables occupied but by the time I left there was a crowd waiting at the door. My waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the wine selections and steak options. I elected to eat an approximately 12 oz. Ribeye steak that was covered in caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms. I also had grilled asparagus and a bowl of red beans and rice. I ordered the steak medium rare. They served my meal with homemade bread and some sort of seasoned butter. My entire meal tasted very good the vegetables were cooked perfectly the red beans and rice was hot with just the right amount of Cajun seasoning. Although I ordered my steak medium rare it came to my table more like medium well. Despite being overcooked it was still very tasty and juicy. My waiter talked me into a piece of homemade cheesecake with chocolate and caramel turtle. I ate several pieces of the cheesecake but it was so large I had to take most of it home. This place would've gotten five stars from me had the steak been cooked as ordered. I did see other people ordering a filet of beef entrée that looked very good. This restaurant had about six or seven desserts to choose from all that were homemade. So if you go save room for the desert. read more

Ya know - there are a lot of good restaurants in Austin and we have certain favs for special occasions versus everyday sustenance, but folks should be aware of a 'tweener - not too expensive, but terribly good Louisiana cuisine. I shouldn't even classify it as Louisiana cuisine, and thereby pigeon hole it as a certain type, as it satisfies a broader need, ergo, a really good menu at a non-outlandish price point, but with some pricy flavor levels. Yes for those frequent, or infrequent N'Orleans visitors, or East Texas ex-pats, or any other classifications of gumbo enthusiasts, it does satisfy that niche of food crave, but it is more. Beyond the crawdads, the roux, and or the okra, it simply satisfies - well conceived and performed recipes that just hit the spot. Flavor, filling, sumptuous, and ahhhhh. Misty is an excellent bartender btw, for that "other" niche fulfillment, and Scott, the head honcho and story teller has all the interesting background to this really very necessary stop. A night after soaking in another fav, Uchiko (or could have easily been BarleySwine, for the special occasion) the urge for gumbo and a good cocktail hit - bingo - "French Quarter", yes. So glad we did. The food was excellent - appetizers - calamari, and shrimp yolli, and Gumbo for dessert, LOL. The calamari is not the puny onion ring style so often found locally, but more the west coast "thick" squid meat that is oh so tender and oh so flavorful. The shrimp yolli, I highly recommend, is seasoned grilled shrimp with slices of equally seasoned and grilled bread in a base sauce that is at best described as an original, creamy, spicy, delectable sauce that defies you to soak the bread in and gobble up, as well as a truly matched in heaven shrimp dip. Objectivity out the window, I do not kid, I would be surprised to have anyone not agree. Gumbo anyone ? Would you believe that a cup is huge and a bowl you can almost bathe in ? After the appetizers, we went for cups, and that was plenty. A rich roux broth with typical gumbo veggies can be supplemented with your choice of meat - chicken and sausage, seafood, shrimp, crawfish, crab, etc., or your choice of some combination of most of those. We went for andouille sausage, crawfish, and crab and simply reveled in it. Yumm. A touch of tobasco and I was home free ! I won't even mention the fresh bread roll and herb butter for dipping. Ewwww weee, I guarantee. Hits the spot ! We heartily recommend. Do it if you have any sense. You won't regret it. AMAZING food, service and special touches! About a month ago, my boyfriend made a comment that he really wanted Beef Wellington. The thought of making it myself was completely daunting, so I set out to find a place that served it. I am a member of a Pflugerville food group, so I turned to them for suggestions. Dave from French Quarter Grill reached out to me personally, offering to make it for us. Since it is an off menu item and one that you have to request in advance, Dave worked with me to plan a perfect birthday dinner for our group of five. We went last night and the dinner was simply delectable. The first "plus" of the evening was the staff. We were immediately greeted, they instantly knew of our party and seated us at a special table they had reserved. Our server, Leah, was wonderful, friendly and went out of her way to make us all feel special, especially the birthday boy. Scott, the owner, checked on us often and was so inviting and friendly. Based on what I just described from the staff, I knew we would be back. The food was the cherry on the sundae. As cliché as it sounds...they made us feel like part of the family. We started with the escargot which was perfectly cooked. I am not sure if Emily Post would approve of us dunking their fresh baked bread into the escargot wells of buttery goodness, but meh...we did not care. It was divine. Their wine selection was very good and we ended up with two bottles of the J Lohr Cab. It was perfect with the steak. Our Beef Wellingtons were served with the veggie of the day (squash) and our choice of an additional side. Four of us had the parmesan mashed potatoes and one had the dirty rice. All sides were wonderful, but come on...if you have limited room in your stomach for food, the Beef Wellington is going to have to take precedence. To say the Beef Wellington was perfectly done is an understatement. It runs up there in the my top five favorite dishes ever. I will admit it, I was nervous...but as soon as I cut into it, I knew we had a winner. It was a perfect medium rare. The tenderloin inside was obviously an incredible cut of meat...I almost did not need a knife. The pastry was right on target, and the red wine demi-glace was the perfect pairing with the dish. All of the flavors and textures joined together for simply a remarkable dish. My boyfriend captured it wonderfully on the drive home..."That was just a joy to eat." I smiled, I knew I had chosen wisely for his birthday dinner, and let me just say, he is very picky (in a good way) about his food. The staff was very sweet in recognizing his birthday. They surprised us with a bread pudding, complete with a candle, and Scott even gave my boyfriend a special gift. Again, the fine touches with the impeccable service and kindness just made a wonderful experience that much better. Thank you to FQG for a unique and memorable evening.
