Had higher hopes for the French Quarter Grille if we're being honest. As you walk in, the ambiance was rather cool! Unique antique chandeliers, French artwork and wine bottles make up the decor as you walk through the dining room to your table. The service overall was just okay and it seemed there often were times we had dirty plates on the table which didn't get cleared and we didn't receive new utensils after we used them for the the first course. We started with fried oysters which had decent taste and were definitely fresh but the composition of the dish was just lacking overall. We also had a cup of crab gumbo which was extremely disappointing. Not much flavor, not enough spice, and the crab was almost non existent within the dish. It seemed like stuff just thrown together and sent out to the table. I ordered the catfish for my main course and although not too fishy it was rather plain. The dirty rice that came with the fish was super dry and the Brussels were still whole and undercooked. They could've used some type of sauce or seasoning for sure. My friend and I were trying to find a place to have dinner, and he had heard about FQG from a coworker. We decided to give it a try after reading the reviews on YELP. This restaurant is tucked away in a small strip of stores, so it's easy to miss. The parking is adequate - what you would expect. We were greeted with a smile and sat at a table right away! The restaurant is small, but cozy. The music and decor was perfect, as it was NOLA without the in your face purple and green and loud music. Don't get me wrong, I love NOLA! One of my favorite places to escape to and have some great food and good times. The meal we had took me back to my food vacations to NOLA. I am so happy we found this place! Our server was perfect. Nice and polite, attentive, and checked in with us enough to make sure we had everything we needed, but not too many interruptions. I had the French Quarter Salmon, with dirty rice and Brussel sprouts, and my friend had the special of the night that was a redfish with crawfish on top. Forgive me for not having the descriptions as well as the menu, or how wonderfully our server described, but the food was perfect. Beautifully presented, and melt in your mouth flavoring. We ended up being the last people in the restaurant (without noticing because no one ever made us feel rushed, and we were finishing up our meal). They even asked us if we wanted dessert! I definitely loved the New Orleans themed decor of the restaurant. But the food didn't really do it for me. I've had crawfish begniets-- which I've had at an authentic New Orleans restaurant, and they weren't the same at all. These were more like crawfish hushpuppies. The wine was great with the bread. Garlic butter was mixed in house and the bread was fresh baked. J Lohr's Cab was to taste, as expected. The gumbo could offer more brightness/acidity from tomatoes. Went here for the first time this weekend. It wasn't packed and we were seated pretty quickly without reservation on a Friday night. The food is amazing. So great and very large portions. More of an older crowd vibe which I enjoyed. Loved the dessert options as well. Unfortunately we had a very busy and forgetful server. Oh my gosh! D-licious!!! This was great. We had dinner here. Ordered a app, entrees and dessert. Oyster Rockefeller for an appetizer. Good and hot. 4 star. Fish Pontchartrain and Chicken Oscar. An amazing experience! My wife and I made reservations on a Friday night. We got some seafood gumbo as an appetizer. I make my own killer gumbo if I do say so myself, and we have been to NOLA many times. This might be some of the best gumbo ever. Full of seafood and a dark, silky roux. Went here for dinner with a group of coworkers. Hidden in the Walmart shopping center some may miss it since in a strip mall part of the center. I had the Chicken Oscar which had an abundance of crab meat. The chicken was still moist and the flavor of the oscar sauce was wonderful. The veggies on the side were still crisp which I always prefer. The calamari was not simple rings but the larger pieces which is always a pleasure to have. Came here for lunch with the family. We were greeted & seated immediately & drinks were done while waiting for the rest of our party. The waitress, Brittany was very friendly and checked on us consistently. We started off with crawfish tails and the calamari. Most of us ordered the special of the day which was a generous portion of catfish, grilled mixed veggies & etouffee. Again, because of my shellfish allergy, I asked if there was shrimp or crab in the dish. She said they could make it without. They are always accommodating with it & the food was delicious! Hot, fresh, soft, crusty rolls with mounds of whipped herb butter to start. Escargot, piping hot, garlicy & tender. We had to ask for more bread to sop up the remaining pools of butter. We decided to try something new and I had this place bookmarked. Glad we did! I ordered the shrimp poor boy. Bread was good, with a good amount of fried shrimp. French fries were good too. I watch my carbs so I couldn't order this everyday but I ditched most of the bread. Hubby ordered the onion crusted cat fish special that was served over a creole tomato sauce with lump crab meat on top. He really liked it. Very large portion for lunch. We tried the fried green tomatoes with their garlic ranch, my boyfriend had the stuffed catfish with red beans and rice. The catfish was spicy to me but enjoyable. This place is superb and reminds you to not judge a book by its cover (great food can, in fact, be found in never-ending Texas strip malls next to a Wal-Mart). Before we get too deep, you'll be mighty disappointed if you come here expecting to find something paleo or low carb or low fat. It's worth it, though. You'll also leave here starving if you are a vegetarian or a vegan. Among my favorite items are the fried green tomatoes (topped with crab, huge portion!), the chicken bacon poboy, the shrimp and crawfish pasta, and fish ponchatrain. But seriously, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. So fresh and well prepared. So much flavor. Huge portions. Fried green tomato was perfect--tasted good without any overwhelming flavors. Definitely recommend eating them with the salad underneath! I've never had such good fried catfish, and the etouffee really complimented it. I loved how wet the jambalaya was, as well as how it tasted good even when my bites didn't include any seafood or meat. They were generous with the seafood in the jambalaya. In my opinion they should have included more green beans, which were of course good, and went well with the rest of the plate. Very interesting butter--looked almost like a small scoop of ice cream or fancy mashed potato. I didn't enjoy the bread, but I'm more a sourdough/baguette/wheat person so that may be why. read more

This pains me to not give this place a 5 * review. The food was fantastic and the service was outstanding! The owner, Scott, came to our table and talked with us about wine. The waitress was so sweet! HOWEVER, we stressed and stressed to both owner and waitress that my son has a dairy allergy. They promised to use oil and no butter (he had the pork tenderloin with the cabbage). He had an adverse reaction to whatever they used (butter, we're sure).
