My wife and I came here a short while ago and enjoyed the simple decor and good food. I had the pork belly. The waiter said it was fried in bacon fat. I really liked that the portions weren't outrageous. I'm getting sick of huge portions. read more

This is a great dinner place, especially if you're into sharing lots of small plates. We got the devilish eggs to start, which were super delicious, then the caesar, chicken wings, a cheese plate, and a trout and potato special. Everything was super yummy, though our trout was slightly under and the potatoes were a little less crispy than advertised (minor gripes about an overall good dish). We got the madeleines for dessert, and they were super scrumptious. Service was really good as well, and their happy hour bites and wine are a sweet deal. I was skeptical. I'm not a French food guy. It was an amazing experience. The Almost Devilish Eggs, were surprising, and ooh so delicious. I went on to the Sautéed Carrot Dog. I thought it was a joke. Oh to the contrary!! It was perfectly grilled with a grilled hot dog bun. I returned to somewhat normal with the hamburger layered with Guyere cheese, caramelized onions, and their house aoili. Very tasty, and cooked to perfection. Their french fries were vertically sliced, and fried crisp and hot. They too were served to perfection. Overall, French"ish" is a very respectable restaurant with some items that will impress those who love French cuisine. If you're in Albuquerque, look this place up. Jennifer James does it again, completely different from her last venture. I ordered the fixed price menu, which was a simple salad, steak fries and a small pot du creme. The portions were small, but more than ample. The emphasis was on quality over quantity. The steak was tiny (4 ounces), but it was among the best I have ever had. The fries were crisp and flavorful. Meal prices are moderate for the quality ($25 for my meal), but wine prices were another story. The selection of French wines were expensive, and there were no house wine alternatives. We ended up ordering beer. You can take the family - there were two hamburgers on the carefully selected/limited menu. read more

Let me just preface this by saying I live within walking distance to Frenchish. I went to the restaurant with a genuine interest but left thoroughly disappointed. This is the classic example of don't trust early reviews. Albuquerque is a bit lacking on good French restaurants, and Frenchish certainly does not help in that regard, if it can even be considered French cuisine. The service is the satisfactory part of the restaurant. Our waitress was very pleasant even when we sent back barely eaten dishes. All of the appetizers and entrees between 3 people were are mediocre and some were downright inedible. One of the appetizers we got was endive. The flavor of the blue cheese and endive do not bland well together. You are left with a sour cheese flavor that lingers unpleasantly after a taste, making it impossible to take another bite. The entrees that we got, pork pot at feu, duck a l'orange and the ribeye, were all mediocre. For it's price range, the dishes at Frenchish really don't have much to offer in terms of both presentation and flavor. If you are looking for a decent French restaurant, you'd find more luck at P'tit Louis Bistro, which is similarly priced but much better in quality. read more

Disappointed with the service. Our server was not attentive. Here is a list of disappointments tonight: slow service, took 30+ minutes for food to come out, delivered the wrong plates for two burgers that we asked to be cooked differently, the fries were hard as rocks, no one checked up on us, and had to hunt down the server when we wanted to order dessert and get the check. The food was good besides the fries. I know the server was not ill-intentioned but his bad service made our visit disappointing. I won't recommend this place to others. read more

Great atmosphere, friendly service, happy hour is top notch, and the food is so fun and delicious. I had the pleasure of enjoying the Frenchish experience on my birthday a few day sago and I was very pleased. The service was not pretentious but very friendly, easy going, and attentive. We tried the carrot dog as an app and it was outstanding. I am mostly grain free, even without the bun it was like the best carrot i have ever eaten. As a party of 3 we all exchanged bites of our entrees and not one was better than the other. We were beside our selves by the end of the meal. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Glad some one can bring inventive food and a good environment to the Albuquerque culinary scene. So needed and so appreciated. read more

The food is excellent. However, be sure it's open before arriving for a happy hour. My friend and I finally got a chance to go just to find they were closed the entire week. This was during the fourth of July week though not on the holiday itself. It was especially frustrating because employees were in the restaurant and came out when to let us know. It was puzzling that they would close during a holiday week like that. If you have kids that you need to get from daycare they don't open at all until 5 PM, an hour later than every other restaurant and happy hour on the strip. A quick after work drink and snack isn't really an option most days. So it was especially disappointing when we found out they were closed. We have yet to be able to go again. We probably won't unless they open earlier. I did eat dinner there, my friend has yet to go. While the food was interesting and delicious, I feel that the owner is not hungry enough to be running a restaurant. If she pulled this in New York or LA she'd be out of business despite her lovely cuisine. read more

JustUpscale, in a cool space, this joint has a short menu with a wide range of prices. This night the only thing that appealed to me was a burger, for 10 bucks, it turned out to be a remarkable burger, cooked perfectly, good quality meat. My wife's chicken also turned out to be more remarkable than it sounded on the menu. The crowd here was of the more mature variety this night. In the end, for $50 we had a solid meal and two beers, not bad. Are the pricy meals worthy​? I don't know, but I'd be willing to try, just wish the menu was a bit more appealing. read more

Great meal last night and we will be back soon! The ambience was excellent along with the food and service.

Upon entering we were informed that due to lack of reservation we would have to sit at the various counter seats they have. We were a party of 2 so no big deal. Appetizers were good, as was the beer. Ordered the entrees and waited, and waited and waited..... Now, during our waiting we watched all of the tables that were "reserved" sit empty which was frustrating. Total wait time was about 40-45 minutes to get a crepe and a burger. Obviously way to long for these types of dishes. The crepe was ill conceived and basically filled with bland lentils and topped with some caramelized onions and cheese. The burger was way undercooked (the menu specifically says cooked through) and just nothing special. Only ate about 2 bites of it and set it aside. Our waitress barely checked on us during the wait time and it took our questioning her to get any "answers" about the food. We were told that a crepe takes about 20 minutes to make even after she admitted that it had been about 35 minutes since the entree orders were placed. It still took another 10 minutes or so to be served. Another staff member thanked us for our patience and remarked at how we came in during "Saturday night crunch time". Total nonsense since we watched plate after plate of food go out to other tables, plus that's what the restaurant business is all about!! If you can't handle the busy times then why are you in business? Total waste of time and money for my wife and I on our date night. Now we are at home making a frozen pizza and at least we know what we will be getting. read more

Wonderful. The staff are gracious and knowledgeable. The menu is creative and the wine list contains gems (ask your server what s/he recommends). The food is "clean," which means the duck tastes like duck, the beef tastes like beef, and the sauces complement but do not try to steal the show. This is not your mother's kitchen. This is our new favorite restaurant in Albuquerque. Dare I say it compares favorably to Geronimo in Santa Fe. Bon Appetit! read more

You don't need to look to the skies for your thrills; just go to French-ish, Jennifer James new restaurant in Nob Hill. She continues to surprise and delight with each new culinary adventure - and this one is the best yet. While she only opened on October 25, it was running better than a Rolex when I visited on the 27th: great food, creative décor, friendly and amazing staff. The menu itself offers diverse temptations (from very reasonable to somewhat pricey), more often than not with a French twist. My two companions and I started off with several appetizers, all of which were good but don't miss the potted pork spread; they both enjoyed their Caesar salads, while I opted for herbed beignets; duck, trout, and steak were all excellent entrée choices. We also ordered sides of mac and cheese and baked potatoes in duck fat - wonderful. But the DESSERTS - absolutely the BEST in town (baked Alaska, lemon tart, madeleines - Oh, so, good!). What I can't get over is there were no false steps along with way and it was only their second day in operation. WOW! It's relaxed, efficient, tempting, and delightful. read more

My new favorite by far. We arrived around 6pm and were seated immediately by a hostess. Ordered 2 happy hour wines for us, which we squeezed in another round before 6:30 ended happy hour. Open kitchen design which gives the large room energy, which began to fill quickly with diners. We started with the cold corn puréed soup which was delicious. Bread costs extra which we don't mind, but is strange in a restaurant with the word French in it. Lots of delicious sounding entrees to chose from including a 3-course price-fix offering. The parmesan encrusted veal sounded more like a Wiener schnitzel which I didn't know I was jonesing for until the thought entered my brain. I guess my wife didn't know it either until I asked our waiter if he thought it was prepared like a schnitzel and he agreed so two were ordered. No mistake there as we both had no trouble polishing off each of our generous size portions along with a large side of frites. Did I mention that the restaurant has the word French in it. I've been meaning to write this review since Frenchish opened but have been remiss. Nob Hill hit the jackpot when Jennifer James decided to return to her old stomping grounds. Diners no longer have to rely on the "fine dining" experiences of Scalo and Elaine's. There's real competition in the neighborhood and, frankly, no one can compete with Frenchish. Happy Hour (and a half) includes some nice nibbles and beverages, including High Life ponies! The dinner menu isn't lengthy but it offers a fabulous array of choices--small plates, salads, burgers, entrees--for any palate and any wallet. The full wine list is well chosen and accessible. (We've ordered some nice bottles from the $25 list.) They change the menu every few months to reflect seasonal changes and they feature a few specials every night. Foie gras is always on the menu and I've LOVED every version that Jennifer has churned out. Come here for a special occasion or just swing by after work. The vibe suits either. I've been here at least a dozen times and have yet to be disappointed. read more
