Folks reading my various posts to Yelp know I generally rate businesses highly when they seem to have earned it. Our latest FSE experience went poorly but the problem may have arisen about two years ago when the service tech advised me that our system seemed to have a "pin-hole" leak which might require more attention in the future. Fine and no surprise to me as any equipment--especially a central HVAC system--can have many things go wrong with time. So now we come to April 2014 and I arrange another annual routine check on our AC and this tech tells me we need a major cleaning of our outdoor condensor unit which will run a few hundred dollars (which I need to postpone for personal financial reasons at the time) so he proceeds with the rest of the system check and then tells me that the R22 refrigerant in our unit (probably installed 1998-'99 when our home was built as a model) was severely if not dangerously low and should no longer be operated. The impression I received was that the pressure test indicated a dramatically low sixty pounds PSI because of the leakage problem giving us a choice of trying to replace the lost R22 and order a leakage check (a very expensive proposition) or go to the more costly option of a brand new HVAC system which would run several thousand dollars at least. Now this is very sobering news to someone who means what he says about what's affordable especially at the present. So I postponed any action until we hit another hot spell in early June except that I did call another HVAC service company but did not choose to set an appointment. And it DID get hot in Pittsburg so finally I called still another company with a Diamond Certified rating (I will identify them elsewhere) for an inspection visit. Their tech and I noted screws missing in the unit and we observed that the spinning exhaust fan was actually striking one or more of the electric wires inside the unit. Still more eye-opening was his explanation of his formal test results: our AC unit which an FSE technican said should not be run at all was operating "normally" even though it's been fighting the heat for more than fourteen summers. And there was NO indication according to his testing of any leak at all, pinhole or larger. No refrigerant had leaked out and we didi NOT desperately need to buy a brand-new unit. The Technician Notes from FSE make clear that our unit had a "big" leak of refrigerant and that the temperature split was only eight degrees (I think normal range is 18-20) when comparing the indoor AC intake temperature to the temp of cold air outflow at one or more ceiling grills. Let me point out that our household has a great deal of small business experience and that we are still recovering financially from a recent major loss. I have spoken and written well of FSE in the past and offer no apology for doing so. I hope the problem I experienced came from a rogue element within FSE who are indifferent to the good name and reputation of Freschi. My husband and I could not be more elated !! Ron Cirino is our hero! We bought a HAVC system from Freschi 6 months ago. Although everything was working perfectly, was approved by Walnut Creek and Rossmoor inspectors, once in a while the CO alarm went off. My husband, being a chemical engineer, simply was stumped why it was happening. We called Freschi two times previously, but this weekend the alarm went off again. Ron came to our home 2 hours after our call. After thoroughly checking the equipment, Ron was stumped as well. But to his credit he listened to what we said, that we could smell something and something definitely was going on. As we all stood in the laundry room, location of the heating unit, Ron looked towards a door and asked if that was a storage closet. No, it is where our water heater is located. Next Ron asked if he could use a lighter. He used the lighter near the draft hood of the water heater to see if the flame was pulling toward the furnace return or if it was properly venting. He found the flame wouldn't even stay lit because the furnace blower was too strong and drawing the flame away. Ron then looked at the door entering the laundry room and realized that we had covered the slats with a shoe bag. By covering the laundry room door, the return air from the furnace was pulling the water heater exhaust straight into the venting system and distributing carbon monoxide to every room in our house. WOW! So, we removed the shoe bag, now have the necessary ventilation, and this serious problem was solved! We thank Ron profusely for listening to us, for being patient, and then most importantly, knowledgeable enough to respond to the situation. read more

Have had annual maintenance plan with Freschi for several years, and their excellent service and diagnostics have kept my ancient HVAC system running well. Juwan serviced my AC this spring and found a major problem with the electrical conduits, which he fixed the next day after explaining what was wrong and showing me the old parts. Fixed it next day, and system ran beautifully through hot summer. Ron, Chris, and Ren did the furnace maintenance today, running diagnostics, cleaning, replacing dirty air filters, etc. System is 21 years old, but thanks to Freschi and their great technicians like Ron, Chris, Ren, Juwan and the others before them, it's still alive and kicking. RON saved our Thanksgiving by coming out early this morning to replace a broken inducer motor which prevented our home from being heated. Purchased a new system from Freschi last year. Time for annual furnace tuneup. Did have a call from scheduler the evening before appointment asking if we could shift our appointment window back a couple of hours due to a scheduling conflict. Ron arrived on time for the new service window. He was professional, courteous and followed up with a complete explanation of what was done, and a recommendation for installing a surge protector. He took time to answer our questions. The work area was left clean (heater unit is located in a cramped area in the attic with blown insulation). read more

What a waste of time. I placed a request for service as my AC is running, but it's not cooling my house as it normally does during these heatwaves. Additionally, cold air can be felt coming from under my house (ductwork is in the crawl space) through the vents on the outside. I'm pretty sure there is a hole or seal that needs to be repaired in the ductwork so all the cold air can come in the house. When I made the appointment for the time slot of 4-6pm, I was warned that if the tech showed up after 7pm, I would be charged the after hours service charge of $149 instead of $99. So if their tech is late to your appointment, you get to pay extra. I went ahead and scheduled because everyone else I called was completely booked. The tech showed at 4pm. Came in, asked what is the warmest room in the house. Stuck his hand in the vent in that room and said the air flow felt ok. He opened the door to the closet where the main part of the system is located. He looked at the tag on it, said its old, you need a whole new system, it's about $15,000 and that was it. No diagnostics to see if anything could be done, just it's old buy a new one. The ductwork was not looked at, which was what I wanted checked. The only reason I am ok with giving one star is because I was not charged for the visit. When they called to confirm a tune up appointment I had previously made with them, I told them to cancel it because of how unhappy I was with the first appointment this week and the caller just said oh sorry about that, and told me to have a nice night. Customer satisfaction is obviously not a concern. read more

I highly recommend Freschi Service Experts. We were referred to them by Costco for replacement of our HVAC systems. We have a large home with three separate systems that were not efficient, noisy and leaky. We had recently installed a solar photovoltaic system and it made sense to install Lennox heat pumps rather than gas heaters. Our job was large and complicated but Freschi was great to work with. They were always on the job on time, clean and polite. Cleaned up after each day, no damage. They responded to any concerns my wife and I had and were willing to make changes without resistance or a ton of paperwork! They explained everything they were doing and took care to see that we knew how to operate and service the new equipment. We initially received bids from three contractors. Freschi was not the cheapest but we liked their knowledge of the equipment and their understanding of what was appropriate for our home. For sure we are happy with our decision and feel that we got more than we paid for. read more

Don't waste your time with this company. We got transferred to them by Lennox when they changed their service territories 2 years ago. When we installed our system 12 years ago we purchased a extended warranty from a third party company. Even though I have the contract and have given it to them 3 times they continue to argue with me every time I call them with an issue. They did go ahead and honor the warranty for a couple services but now refuse to make me any further service appointments. Really? I spoke with the service manager and he was very unprofessional and rude. No good customer service attitude there for sure. The schedulers are very rude and uncaring as well. Top all this off with the fact that they could not diagnose my A/C issue and left me with a hot house. Thank goodness I was able to find a company who actually knows what they are doing to fix my A/C or I would still be sitting here hot with no hope! No help from Freschi for sure! read more

We have had a very expensive and frustrating experienced with Service Experts. We converted our heating/AC system to a "zone system" a few years back and were generally pleased with it's performance. It was very expensive ($5000.00), which was just for the thermostats, the damper installation and the system that controls the dampers. 5 years ago one of the computer boards failed and had to be replaced. That was $900.00. This past month, a second computer, that communicates with the wireless thermostats failed. $1100.00 to fix this. It took 3 service calls to fix this problem. Today, our heater turned on but upstairs, which it was not supposed to do. The technician had reversed the thermostats, with the downstairs thermostat heating the upstairs and vice versa. I have to wait home AGAIN tomorrow for a 4th service call. They are very prompt when scheduling timely service calls but offered no help in fighting with Honeywell on the failure of these systems. Additionally, when I asked for an itemized receipt (they charged a flat $1100.00 with no cost breakdown) I was told that there wasn't one available. I called the Antioch office and was told that a branch manager would call me back. No call back. Service Experts isn't entirely to blame but I would have hoped that there would have been better customer service after dropping over $7000.00 on thermostats, dampers and the control boards. We will look somewhere else when we need help with our HVAC system in the future. read more

I really don't know where to start. I usually don't like to write a bad review but this company deserves not even one star. If you are looking to get new heat/air conditioning please shop around because this place is way over priced. I made a appointment for free estimate with service expert Heating and air conditioning through Costco around summer time. The person who came for estimate was late and very pushy. Prior to that we had couple of more estimate from some other local company that were way more reasonable so we decided to go with different company. Since then I've been getting phone calls for their services. I called a few times and asked to be removed from their contact list But they just keep calling. I asked the person who came for estimate why their price is a lot higher than other places? He said because we have a bigger overhead. It makes Sense if the bigger overhead means have more people to make all those annoying/harassing phone calls. I'm going to make a complaint with Costco. read more

When our air conditioner blower quit working I called Freschi to repair it as they had installed the system in 1999. I called about 5pm and was told someone would be out that night to repair it. Jeff called about 7pm and said he could not get to it until 9 or 10 that night, so I suggested to re-scheduling to the next morning. He sounded relieved and said someone would be there between 8 and 10 the next morning. Nobody showed but the office called around 10 and said someone would be there by noon. At noon I called them again and was told someone would be on their way. Finally at 1pm the tech showed up, with apologies, and proceeded to replace a circuit board in the unit, and to give the system a brief check up. He said the board cost $550 and the service call was $100 but later gave me a "discount" on the part to $451 for a total of $551. I later found the circuit board on the internet for less than $200 shipped, so I think Freschi is making a lot of money on parts. Maybe this is what all of the service companies do, but considering the inconvenience of waiting around for the promised arrival of the tech plus the expense, three stars is all I'll give them. read more

We paid 50.00 for a service call and the tech came out to troulbeshoot our problem, he said he would call the next day to get us an estimate to repair our AC unit, we never got that phone call and the check has been cashed already, called them 2 times to ask for an estimate, but the said it's not ready yet. It has been almost 4 weeks and we still do not have an estimate or a call from these people. With hard times like these, you figure they would be more customer friendly, but I guess they will go out of business soon. do not be fooled by this company. read more

They couldn't find the problem with my furnace. After first time showing up never followed up with me. They never told me whether they ordered limit switch for me or not. My furnace still doesn't work after the technician charged me more than $300. The limit switch part is $13.50 on Amazon.com, but they charge for $365. They take your money much faster than refund. When I request to cancel my service, I have to call them more than 3 times. Finally, I contacted my credit card company for dispute. read more

DON'T EVER USE FRESCHI/SERVICE EXPERTS. Our furnace went out Christmas night and they came out the next day. They gave us an estimate and said they needed to ordr parts which should have been in on 12/28. That day came and went and we didn't hear from them, mean while we've been freezing. We keep calling and they keep telling us they don't know where the parts are but they are hoping it will be in soon. I asked them to trace it, I know that can be done. They can't seem to do that. What kind of business is this that they can't even trace a package they ordered? I don't think they ordered it. They have never called us once. My husband and I have called them almost every day more than once inquiring about our parts and have gotten nowhere. We are now going somewhere else and will be filing a complaint with the BBB. read more

I am in desperate need of heating and air and am looking at the split unit ductless option.. I have called 4 different companies, with mixed reviews. Freshci came out over 2 weeks ago, I was impressed with thier professionalism, I recieved an initial quote, I am ready to move. However, I have not heard from them since. I requested the estimate be emailed to me, I still not have heard anything. I would appreciate offers being made, however, I am now wondering if I even want to start the process with them, especially given the mixed reviews I am seeing. i recently had a furnace/a-c installed and was told that freschi air an outside contractor for c o s t c o stores in vallejo would do the install, i would pay in advance before the job was completed and be given a 10% refund after the job was done. almost a month after the job was done, costco stores sent me a letter stating that they had given me an instore cash card, not the cash refund that i was led to believe costco would rebate me after installation, but costco's instore cash card...not the cash refund i was led to believe that would be given to me. if the consumers out there likes this type of refund use all those services that costco hawks as you exit the store...but if you're expecting your money ($$$$) think again!!!! m medina ; duped costco consumer read more

The technician was on time, competent, and polite for my furnace tune up. I liked that they always have someone to answer the phone when you need to make an appointment. You can also make appointments on their website. The technician was honest and didn't try to sell me some service that I didn't need. He just explained the current status of the furnace and made recommendations about preventative maintenance. I signed up for a one year maintenance program which gives you two visits a year (separate furnace and air conditioner tune ups). This program offers a 15% discount on any parts and service during the contract term. read more

I'm not one into leaving bad reviews but I have to on this one. I had this company come out in the past and they did a tune up and replaced a capacitor on my AC unit. Then I had them come out earlier this year to do another routine tune up and the guy forgot to change out the filter in the room and then never said bye or care back to replace it. That is all part of the tune up. So I get a phone call a week later demanding payment. I said that the job never was completed. Then the lady (Pam) was very rude. She demanded payment before coming back out. I was appalled. So I paid it but she made me feel as if I was trying to get out of not paying. So, I let it go and then I needed them to come out because the motor was doing the same thing as before and I got the same lady (Pam) and this time she said I needed to give her the credit card info before they can even come out. I feel very bad about my experience with this company! They need to fire Pam and then the company will run way smoother! read more

With our 26 year old heater/air conditioner beginning to sound like it was on its last leg, I decided to bite the bullet and get a new one. Having done a lot of business with Costco and perfectly satisfied with all transactions, I saw a display kiosk there and called the 800 number for an appointment with a sales rep. I promptly received a reply from Dominic Freschi of Service Experts who came to the house. After looking at both the heater and air conditioning units as well as inspecting the ductwork, he presented us with several options which would work for us. We opted for a two-stage, dual zone system which was not cheap, but seemed the most appropriate for our house. I should mention that when he was running late with his previous appointment, Mr. Freschi phoned us to advise of his revised ETA. That was on a Friday, January 27th, and as he promised, Mr. Freschi had two crews here on Monday morning, January 29th to begin installation, which took two days. At the end of the first day, we were able to use the heater although the bells & whistles were not yet installed, so we did not have to suffer through a night with no heat. But, when Service Experts left that Monday afternoon, we noticed that debris from an overhead duct had been wiped off of a brand new chest of drawers in the master bedroom, scratching the surface. We called Dominic immediately and he said that Service Experts would accept full responsibility for repairs even if it meant transporting the piece back to the place of purchase. Now, it's always nice when things go perfectly and no mistakes are made. But when stuff happens (and it usually does) and someone steps up the the plate to correct a mistake, I'm impressed! We have already received a check from Service Experts covering the full amount of the repair cost, and an extra year of free service for our trouble. I am also impressed with the efforts the installers made (cardboard and padding taped into place) to protect our new hardwood floors. Day 2 of installation went without a hitch, and new attic insulation was part of the package we purchased. The installers took the time to familiarize us with the new system and thermostats. We have not yet had a chance to experience the air conditioner and probably won't until June. But I can say for certain that the new heater keeps our two story house quite comfortable on both floors, which the old system didn't. Also, our first PG&E bill since installation showed a substantial reduction. All in All, I am very happy with the product and the service we got from Service Experts and highly recommend them. read more

We had a fire in our furnace which the manufacturer replaced free of charge. Service Experts did quality, timely, work in installing the replacment but I feel I was overbilled for labor costs for just 3 hrs of actual work at my house. I have paid the entire $1800 bill as do not want to tarnish my name or credit but still protest the amount. I've expressed my unhappiness to the Service Experts office and written the General Manager. My house could have burn down with my wife and young daughter in it and now I feel like I'm being taken advantage of by unreasonable pricing practices. We have used Service Experts (Freschi) in the past and they do quailty work, it's just this current situation that I feel placed over a barrel with no recourse that has driven the writing of a review. read more

We contacted Service Experts through Costco after meeting a satisfied customer. The team not only had to replace the heating and a/c, we needed all the ducts replaced and to our dismay found we had asbestos in our home that needed to be removed. This company was comparable in price to some others, but took a much more professional approach. Dominic was able to answer all our questions, arranged for an asbestos (Synergy) removal company to come in and cleanly remove all our asbestos. (Synergy not only removed the asbestos they also provided us with an air quality test after to ease our concerns about any remaining material left behind.) The new system is so amazing, the service and the quality of workmanship left us feeling good about our purchase and giving them a good review. I recommend doing your do-diligence get bids, but make sure the people you work with understand your needs, know heating and a/c, and work cleanly and competently. Finally, bids and work were all completed within one week, during the peak season. Pretty amazing. read more

I called Service Experts Heating & Air because the HVAC air exchange unit in my condo was not working properly. The young man that came out was on time and as helpful as he could be under the circumstances. He told me that my unit could not be repaired and had to be replaced. He called his boss to confirm. I could hear his boss because the young man had his phone on speaker. The boss person seemed sarcastic and rude. I asked for a quote to fix or replace the unit so the boss said to call scheduling and make an appointment. I made an appointment for the next morning between 8:00 & 11:00 but no one showed up. I called the appointment hot line and they told me they would re schedule for between 5:00 and 8:00 that evening. No one had showed up by 7:45 so I called back to see if it was going to happen and the operator said she had to put me on hold and would be right back. I waited on hold for 20 minutes and finally gave up. The young man that came out the first time was nice and as helpful as he could be. He is a filter and gas guy and if that is all you need I am pretty sure he would do satisfactory work. I would not trust Service Experts to do anything requiring anything more than minor maintenance. You will lose a half day of work waiting for them and they will never show up. read more

Came home on a Friday, holiday weekend afternoon to find air conditioner not working properly. Realizing it would be difficult -- to say the least -- to find someone willing to fix it over the weekend I began calling various companies. Freschi/Service Experts not only promised someone would be here -- on the Fourth of July -- to repair my system, but that there would be no extra charge. With such a promise, I quit calling around and prepared to have Freschi show up the next day. What I got instead was a morning phone call from a Freschi rep telling me they had "no idea" why an appointment was scheduled as they had given all their techs the weekend off, and that they couldn't arrange to even look at the system for another 3 days. I get that techs want holidays off, too and, had they told me originally that they were unable to help, I simply would have kept looking for a company willing to help. Instead, I'm left scrambling, trying to contact someone else ON A HOLIDAY. Don't know where the disconnect is at Freschi, but this kind of experience makes them wholly unreliable in my book. read more
