It has been almost a year since I've been back at Fresh Ocean Market. Here is an updated review! I was helped by Tammy and she was great! She helped me picked the best for my sashimi dinner. I went with the Ōra King Salmon ($36/lbs), Yellowfin Tuna ($21/lbs), and Santa Barbara Uni ($30/tray). They offer three different types of salmon - Atlantic, Scottish, and Ōra King. I had the Atlantic and Scottish before, so I thought I'd give the pricey crème de la crème of salmon (Ōra King) a try this time. Man, the Ōra King was really good - buttery with a very nice salmon taste. Even the leaner parts tasted very buttery! I really liked the Yellowfin Tuna - no sinew and great flavor! Santa Barbara Uni is such a delicious luxury and well worth it! I will be back! read more

Came here to get some oysters. They had a good variety of oysters as well as other fresh seafood such as sushi grade fish. The guys that work there are very nice and knowledgeable of their products. Definitely a great place to go if you're looking for this type of seafood. read more

Oysters and sushi are delicious! We enjoyed every bite of our meal. We ordered: - 3 types of oysters: Fat Bastards, Kushi, and Kumamoto. The Fat Bastards were the favorite. - Salmon Sashimi - Premium Sushi Omakase - Hokkaido Scallop Sushi - Black Cod Sushi - Yellowtail Sashimi The Sushi and oysters were so fresh and you want more. Came here because a coworker and I saw Sandra L. post some seriously delicious-looking pictures, and we had to check it out for ourselves. We stopped by on a Friday before noon, originally just planning to grab some frozen black cod. But while browsing the market, we spotted sea bream, which is much harder to come by, so we ended up picking up about 1.6 lbs ($35/lb). Haven't tried it yet, but will definitely update this review once we do. This review is actually for the bar seating area, which I believe operates as a separate restaurant under the same owner. You get to taste sushi made from the same fresh seafood being sold in the market. Of course I can't talk about the food without talking about the prices. They have a Happy Hour menu (the green one -- see photos), and when we went, they were also running a BOGO deal on several items and one being black cod $10 for 4 pieces. Such a steal. The slices were on the thinner side, but the quality was still amazing, especially for the price point. Fresh, clean flavors, and you can tell the fish is high quality. I totally wish we could've tried more items, but we had just eaten lunch beforehand. The employees and the owner, I think, was really friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Between the market and the bar, this place is a win. I'll definitely be coming back, both for the fresh fish selection and for a sit down. read more

My boyfriend was wanting some oysters and we were in the Anaheim area that day, about to head to Disneyland. I was looking for a local, laidback spot that we could spend time and have oysters. There were a lot of great nearby local seafood chains as well but we decided to come here. When we arrived, there was another couple who knew of this local gem and came to have the variety plate of oysters (their daily specials) as well. The owner was pretty cool and hospitable, and said he offers to shuck and prepare oysters to those who come to have some, & many customers came for specific pickup orders of oysters or other seafood thats available in the freezers to the left. If we lived closer, we would definitely like to shop here too for seafood and other meat types. For the price, intimate vibe, & getting to know about the industry was a neat experience. Love, love, love their sushi rolls! The seared salmon sushi and their wagyu roll are delishhhhh. Their customer service is attentive and they're super helpful. Full disclosure: This market is a take out omakase/a la carte spot. If you wanna dine in at their small bar, RSVP is a Must. It is not a full dine in restaurant. We have been looking for a good sushi grade fish place for a long time. We walked in and were immediately greeted. Any questions we had were answered and we never felt pressured to buy the more expensive fish. We made poke for dinner with the fish and it was the fresh and the most delicious salmon we've had. This place is an absolute hidden gem. It's not your typical restaurant. It's more like a high end seafood market that also serves sushi, kind of like how an Italian deli sits next to an Italian restaurant... but honestly, the quality here is straight-up fine dining level. Huge shoutout to Sushi Chef Raul. You can tell he takes real pride in what he's doing. Every piece was dialed in. The A5 Wagyu nigiri was unreal. Perfectly seared, buttery, and just melts. The Kumamoto oysters were fresh, clean, and exactly what you want. And the rolls... easily some of the best I've had. Super balanced, not overloaded, just done right. Also have to mention Tania, who was incredibly warm and welcoming. She made the whole experience feel comfortable and personal, which you don't always get at places putting out food at this level. Don't let the "market" or To-Go vibe fool you. This is high end sushi without the high end attitude. If you know, you know. This shop is small and hidden in an unassuming plaza but has an excellent selection of items. FOWM offers high-quality seafood, oysters, wagyu meats, sausages, and various sauces and condiments to satisfy anyone's hunger. The first time I visited this place after searching for Cham sauce. A friend highly recommended the sauce, which compliments many foods, especially fried fish. I walked in, and James, the owner, was quick with a friendly greeting and provided fantastic help. Always bought our lobster tails from here. Catered multiple events with their lobster boxes/bags and also purchased oysters. I recommend the tails, but not the oysters. Their selection has diversified to include a small selection of cuts of meat, a small selection of soft drinks, and the basics for plating (butter, sauces, spices, etc). Really enjoyed this place. Great choices for our seafood boil. Everything tasted great! They even carry sausage and sauces and corn to complete the meal. Most of the seafood is frozen whole, or frozen pieces, but also carry sliced fish for sushi. Service was good and helpful on selections. The store is very clean. read more

Purchased a Wagyu steak and some beautiful oysters. The Wagyu steak was perfect. My one Wagyu steak contributed to some fantastic ground beef that I purchased the chuck ribeye and Wagyu steak contributes to some of the best ground meat. From the reviews we were expecting fresh fish but sadly all the fish is frozen the only fresh seafood is oysters. We bought frozen salmon and we were very disappointed - when it was thawed out, there was a lot of water in the fish and it had a strong fishy odor and taste. Found this little hidden gen through yelp! I was browsing on yelp last minute for some wholesale seafood and we're so glad we came across this place. we got a box of snow crab legs (10 pounds) for $130. The crab was delicious! They sell all different kinds of seafood from oysters to uni, to fish, shrimp, caviar etc. Prices are great! They also have alligator meat if you're into that. This place is well stocked with sushi grade fish and shrimp. They have all sorts of seafood, all you gotta do is ask! The owner was there and walked around the counter to help and show me what was in the fridges and recommended a few types of fish. Don't let the neighborhood/shopping center prevent you from visiting. The inside is relatively small with a few sections still "under construction" but it's just to expand what on what they can offer. I went there expecting a nice selection of fresh fish, but they don't do that. It's a very small space with freezers for sashimi grade fish, and a fridge for oysters. We ended up getting a dozen of the large grilling oysters and two dozen Kumamotos. The kumamotos were fairly easy to shuck, and were fantastic. $2 per oyster. The staff here are the best people, super nice and helpful when you don't know what to get. On top of such delicious seafood, the value is so great. The place isn't your typical grocery store when you first walk in and small. However, they had all the delicacies that I was looking for. I also met James, the owner, and he was very helpful and ensured that the food was fresh! His service was as impeccable and provided me instructions on what I needed to do to store and preparation before consuming!
