Our group of six had reservations and were seated quickly. The seating is tight and the restaurant was loud. If you're looking for a quiet place, this isn't it. We all liked our food. I was not a fan of the cocktail but I think that's a risk you take with chocolate liqueur. The French toast was delicious. The edges were a little too crispy for my liking but overall good flavor and great portion size. The bacon was my favorite part and the potato hash came as expected. We were seated quickly, although they were quite busy. The staff were friendly and courteous. We ordered the nova belly, which has a seasoned potatoe cake on the bottom, with smoked salmon, kale, and poached eggs topped with hollandaise. This dish was pretty, well seasoned, and just really tasty. This can be recreated at home, except I will have to spend some time on perfecting the potatoe cake. We also had the matza ball soup that was served piping hot with large matza balls. It had a good savory, broth, and veggies. The mushroom soup was a little thick and was more like gravy but had a rich taste. The servers seemed to enjoy working there because we observed friendly conversations and smiles among the staff. I've been here 3x, each for the singing servers experience as I eat. The food has always been good, but I would say it's a bit pricey. However, this is Times Square and it's also connected to a hotel, so of course it is. Today, I got the Turkey Burger which comes with Herb Fries for $20. I also got a This Is My Jam cocktail which was $16. My friend and I sat at the bar, which is common if you don't make a reservation with Gayle's Broadway Rose, because it will be a fully booked house. But I like the bar because you can find a seat easily if you wait and you still get to eat and hear the waiters sing around you! The burger was quite good and not too dry for turkey meat and the fries are hot and crisp. The drink was very refreshing too. One thing I wasn't that fond of was this lady coming around to ask us if we'd like to contribute cash to tip the singing servers. They will come up behind you and ask you in your ear if you can drop a tip in a hat for the servers. I think it's fine to suggest tip via an announcement by the host or leaving tip jars on tables or by the entrance/exit for the singing servers, but guests already are leaving tips on the bills for their meal and service, so the additional tip request in this economy especially was a bit much. Came to Friedman's last Saturday with my girlfriend on one of the coldest days we've had. Literally around 7 degrees outside. The kind of cold that cuts right through you. Walking into Freedman's felt like instant relief. The ambiance was cozy, inviting, and exactly what you want on a blistering winter day. From the warm lighting to the overall vibe, it felt like a place meant for slowing down and enjoying the moment. The soup was incredible comforting, flavorful, and honestly everything I needed to thaw out. You can tell real care goes into the food here. Let's start with I went to this location a week ago and we probably went at time before some broadway shows as the wait time was quite long even when you had a reservation. We had a reservation but still took awhile for us to get seated (they did forget about us) but on a good note glad we found a spot at the bar. Also of note, it's a singing waiters/waitress, the concept is exciting and fun but I could barely hear myself think and talk to my girlfriend peacefully. Onto the food, the food is always amazing and we made the following foods gluten free. Vegetable dumpling most definitely quality dumpling. Grilled cheese with the tomato soup is so simple but my god it was delicious and the pastrami sandwich melted in your mouth, I will get that again for sure. The good is that the location is convenient, the atmosphere is fun and the food is very mediocre. I was very disappointed with my fish and chips. The fish was sent back as it was very thin and tasted fishy. The french fries were very ordinary. The only good thing was the coleslaw was fresh and tasty. Service was good. I did resent the fact that on the bill they offered you 2022 or 24% as a tip. I don't mind 20% but I do not like having it done in that. Overall, a very Soso meal. Hands-down, one of my favorite places to eat whenever I'm visiting NYC! Being a celiac, it's hard to find good quality gf food but Friedmans makes it super easy. The fact that I can have gluten-free spinach artichoke dip (which is surprisingly hard to find), chicken wings, gf Mac and cheese, and more, makes me a happy gal. The options are endless and they're very catering to any allergies. I happen to work a few doors down and went there for a late lunch today with a couple of colleagues. First the hostess wouldn't seat us in a booth, even though there was empty booths / tables available and half the room was full. She was rude and short with us , not helpful at all. We were seated at a table, Natalie was our waitress. She had a friendly personality, we ordered Mac & cheese , fish and chips and the third order was a chicken sandwich. I asked if she could bring us mayo with the ketchup and Natalie said yes. Received the order without mayo , had to ask 3 different people if someone could. The Mac and cheese was non existent, we received penne pasta with cheese ,when I asked why did we receive penne when we ordered Mac and cheese , I was told it's gluten free, the fish was very fishy and dry even after squeezing fresh lemon juice on it, the Cole slaw had no taste , bland and no sauce on , it was dry. We ordered dry martinis with olives and only the olives tasted okay. I would absolutely not recommend this place, bad service and the food was awful. read more

On a recent weekend visit to NYC (we're from Boston), a friend who lives across the river in NJ came into the city to meet us for brunch. She suggested Friedmans because it was close to our hotel and had previously visited this location. It was a solid choice. They have a large and varied menu with something for everyone. Our friend from NJ had an egg scramble with cheese, veggies, and wheat toast. My S.O. had avocado toast on challah with poached eggs. I had the pastrami hash with two eggs over easy. We were all happy with our dishes. We found the waitstaff to be very attentive. It's the sort of place where all the waitstaff keep an eye on every table they pass ("Would you like more coffee, sir?" "Can I get you your check?"), even when it was not their table. Ditto with the bussers -- always around, filling your water glass, removing the empty plates, etc. Kudos to management for training their staff well. The Edison Hotel location was interesting/cool, architecturally, and reasonably clean. However, you do have to leave the restaurant to find the restrooms in the hotel lobby (where you may be challenged by hotel staff to ensure you came from the restaurant or are a hotel guest before you can use them). We all found Friedmans a good choice for a NYC Sunday morning breakfast/brunch. read more

It also came with dessert so we got the apple pie, the carrot cake, and the cheesecake - all were good. The matzoh ball soup that was included was not matzoh ball soup at all - it was chicken noodle soup and the waiter didn't say anything so not sure if they ran out or what. It was advertised that seconds were included, we didn't ask for seconds but when I asked for extra gravy because they did not put a lot on the turkey, I got charged $5 for a ramekin of gravy. ?? It was an interesting substitute for syrup and the berry flavor really added to the french toast. I thought the toast was a little dry, but it was good! Next time, I would probably get pancakes instead. My dad got the blueberry ones and they looked so fluffy and delicious! My crispy bacon wasn't crispy, my friend's french toast was cold and my bland uncrispy hashbrowns were a notch below room temp. I'm unsure about what our long wait was for as it clearly had nothing to do w our food. We ate as much as we could and was ready to leave.
