I have now been to Friedman's three times -- once during my summer 2022 trip to New York, and twice during my December 2022 trip. Clearly I'm a fan! We chose Friedman's for lunch during our summer visit because it offered gluten-free items. I ordered a Reuben sandwich which was delicious, but it was so filling that I only ate half and I saved the rest to eat the next day. Unfortunately, due to the housekeeping staff at the hotel bothering us several times while we were trying to pack up, I forgot my sandwich. I was so annoyed because I was really looking forward to eating it, so when my husband and I went back to Friedman's in December, I ordered another Reuben, and my husband ordered the meatloaf. A couple of days later we went back to Friedman's, and this time I had the beef dip and my husband had the steak with creamed spinach and fries. Friedman's isn't cheap, but the food is delicious. My son and I ate here before attending Hamilton and wish I would have known about it when I was in NYC with my daughter in December. The menu was great...something for everyone. Pricing reasonable (2 entrees, a soda and glass of wine was $100 with a generous tip). Server was wonderful and her voice amazing. Loved the entertainment element! It's amazing the gems you find in NY. It was going to be a rainy day but I was out walking around anyway when I stumbled upon Friedman's. I was hungry so I went inside and was sat at the bar. It is a very quaint place. I ordered the cobb salad with the herb fries and an iced tea. Everything was delicious the fries were amazing. I ended up talking to a nice girl sitting next to me about travel and art. Since I was visiting she asked if I had plans for the day and I said I had no idea. She suggested the Met and I thought how perfect since it was supposed to rain. After my fantastic meal with awesome service I went through the park to go to the Met got caught in a downpour. But like my grandpa always said you're not made of shit or sugar you won't melt! Made it to the met and spent 7 hours what a great way to spend a day. Ever had yucca fries? Nope, me either. So of course we had to try them! We stopped in for mid day drinks and snacks, so were focused on the starter and sides sections of the menu but saw a number of yummy looking plates pass by while we were there. We ordered the mixed starter plate with yucca fries, French fries and Brussels sprouts. The yucca fries were a little bland - they taste lime mashed potatoes and mashed turnips had a an affair so really needed the aioli dipping sauce (which I'll never say no to anyway). This isn't the first time I've been to Friedman's, but it is my first for this location! If you're looking for a cozier, less busy location, then this is the one for you. I was able to catch the tail end of their happy hour deal, which gave you all their cocktails for $10! The Spring Fever was a nice, fruity drink that me and my friend enjoyed. I got the Meatloaf & Mash, and wow. It was a hearty, good meal. The meat was moist, and the sauce paired so well with the dish. The string beans were also surprisingly tasty and garlicky, and I'm usually a string bean hater! Definitely recommend this dish to anyone who comes! My friend had the 3 Piece Chicken with fries on the side, and from the few pieces I stole, they were also delicious! Is the chef a fried man? Seems like this place is famous for burgers, sandwiches, and other various fried food including fried chicken. Going against the grain, I ended up eating a flank steak with fries and creamed spinach which is a strak frites +1. 10oz steak is a good portion, and although this cut of steak is no A5 wagyu, it's still quite flavorful with an aiolo sauce on top. Fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The lobster mac and cheese had a more beschamel sauce and not the degenerate Velveeta orange goo which I actually would have preferred. Overall, not bad, and there were generous portions of lobster, which are probably not 100% fresh(probably frozen and leftovers from the Red lobster bankruptcy). read more

Had a 630 reservation and walked right in with no wait. First up the crispy rice appetizer. There are 6 smaller portions and they are delicious. Just enough flavors that are all working in unison. I had the 3 pieces of fried chicken w the sweet potato fries and brussel sprouts. Everything was delicious especially when I paired the chicken with the hot honey that my wife had w her chicken and waffles. She enjoyed that as well. I wish there was a little bit more herbed mayo on the sandwich, but the bacon and eggs were both yummy. The banana bread was good as well, with just the right amount of chocolate chips. My friend and I walked into Friedman's around 3:30pm on a Sunday. There were a few open tables, and the restaurant did not show signs of significant slowdown at any point we were there. The ambiance is typical of your average American restaurant in NYC. My friend has celiac, along with other several other dietary restrictions, and Friedman's has done a good job preparing food in that regard. My friend noted that this location in particular prepares tasty food. I got the Friedman's Burger ($23), and my friend got the Turkey Club ($22) with only turkey, avocado, and bacon on gluten-free bread. I ordered my burger medium rare, and they nailed that, so the burger was juicy. I thought flavoring did not come through, either naturally or through seasoning. My fries were also extra crispy, so much that it was like biting into a carrot. While the cook on the burger was perfect, $23 is a lot for a standard burger (cheese and other things are extra), and the lack of flavor definitely does not justify the price. I would never go out of my way for Friedman's, but if you're in the area, it's not a bad choice, especially for people looking for gluten-free dining! The highlight of our experience was Victoria, our server. Victoria was so accommodating of my friend's needs and did multiple check-backs on us. She seemed genuinely interested in making sure we had the best experience! My friend commented that good service has been the norm at this location, so that's another bonus if that is something you value. read more

I was passed by several times upon entering for pick up without any greeting. When I was finally approached and showed my pick up receipt on the toast app. The woman who greeted me asked where my name was on the receipt. It's a receipt that's generated by the toast app so that question was ridiculous to me. I scrolled through the receipt to show her the full receipt but she only repeated her question. She also got louder each time she repeated herself until I looked at her crazy and responded that I didn't know just as loud as she had gotten. At that point she said "Oh I don't need ur name" and finally handed over my package. It was my worst experience picking up an order at any restaurant and it should have never been that difficult or handled so rudely. The menu for the entirety of the restaurant, amazing plus vegan options too! My French toast was fluffy (you can also have the option to select how many pieces of toast you want), fully cooked and just tasted LIKE WHAT FRENCH TOAST WITH POWDERED SUGAR should taste like.
