There is no kids menu but there was plenty to choose from. My son had Mac and cheese bites from the app menu, for example. One thing to just know is that the restrooms are not gender specific. There's one restroom with several stalls for all patrons. This in theory doesn't bother us, we're accepting of whatever you want to do or whoever you are. Friedman's was a lucky find on my Yelp feed when it was freezing cold and raining in New York. They came through with some delicious warm matzo ball soup and pastrami sandwiches on rye that absolutely hit the spot. The entire group was super happy. Even though it was crowded service was attentive, and the server was super friendly. She also brought a special piece of cake out for my daughter's birthday, which everyone also really liked. The inside is classic diner, and it is a bit upscale as well, which made for a pleasant dining experience. I enjoy Friedman's. This is my second location I've been at. The Nova Benny was my favorite dish by far. Delicious salmon. Great poached eggs. Tasty fritter bottom that's crunchy. The lemon ricotta pancakes are also tasty. They forgot to give us syrup and then when they brought us syrup, they didn't give us enough. That was a little annoying. I also feel that the syrup is very watery and doesn't have a great thick consistency so it soaks right into the pancake. You can taste the lemon inside, which is really unique. The homemade banana bread was yummy so I didn't try any of the strawberry. I don't know that it's worth $15, that feels a little exorbitant. We had a lovely waitress who was funny and charming, and add added to the experience. I love the interior inside this place. You feel like you're back in time somewhere. After being told that the French fries were not safe for a child with sesame allergy they wanted to substitute it with a salad (they have 2 sesame salads!) All around just a very average brunch spot here in the city. I had high hopes coming in, however, the food did not exceed expectations. First, the broccoli, falafel burger is pretty dry and a little bland. Even with the lettuce and tomato as well as the sauce that they put on it, it still has no flavor. The french fries, however, were crispy and tasty. Next, the lemon ricotta pancakes were again unimpressive. These tasted like extremely simple pancakes, however, the lemon zest on top was actually nice. The best part of the dish was the maple syrup, which is obviously some store-bought variety. Lastly, the Shakshuka was pretty good! Not really any complaints on this dish. It is intentionally supposed to be mildly spiced, and the bread that is served with was delicious. The eggs were cooked appropriately, and this was the highlight of the brunch. Next on the service, this was one where again I felt it could've been a lot better. The staff aggressively come to your tables and take away plates, even if you are still eating. They did this five or six times over the span of one and a half hours, and this leads to a pretty poor experience overall having to be interrupted and tell staff that you are still working on your food. Atmosphere is also fine. Pretty noisy and loud, however, it doesn't feel too cramped despite the smallest establishment. read more

We had an excellent brunch on a Monday afternoon at the suggestion of one of the staff at a nearby Marriott we were lodging at. His recommendation proved to be valuable. We were a group of three and arrived in the noon hour after a long morning of air travel. I ordered an omelette breakfast and shared an order of pancakes with one of our group because both options looked delicious and I was at the epitome of famine. One ordered the popular banana bread along with her breakfast. We all agreed it was good but not epic as it was a bit on the dry side. The pancakes were dynamite and didn't disappoint. We stopped into Friedman's on 12/31. It's a busy day but they still sat us right away. Let's end in a high note by starting with complaints. The chairs are horribly uncomfortable and the tables are VERY close together. If we had been dining with the table next to us it would have been perfect! We weren't... so it was awkward. I also get tired of being seated across from my husband, rather than next to him, but it was a busy day, so I get it. The majority of their menu is gluten free. It really does not seem like it would take much for them to develop an entirely gluten free restaurant. Our food was divine. I had the Nova Benny. I couldn't finish mine but I wish I could have. It had a bit too much spinach on it but that's easily remedied. I would have loved more hollandaise but most people probably would have found more to be too much. My husband had the fish and chips. I couldn't believe it was also gluten free! So good! I did fine it odd that I left feeling sick despite ordering a gluten free meal. When gluten is involved I usually feel sick quickly and I didn't have gluten for breakfast. I'm not really sure what to make of it. They have dedicated fryers. Perhaps because I tried one of my husband's fries? They were labeled gluten free on the menu but maybe since he didn't ask for them to be gluten free? This is just something that I feel should be better understood. I ordered from a gluten free item so I feel that I shouldn't have had to inform them of a gluten allergy, but maybe we do need to? Someone nearby had a birthday and they stuck the candle in their sandwich to sing to them. That was a nice touch. Not everyone wants sweets but having a birthday recognized so kindly is fun! Friedman's has several locations in the city and this one has been on my list for years, though for some reason have never had the chance to stop by. Finally came for brunch for two on a Sunday around 1:30pm and was seated within 5 minutes of arrival without reservations. There's room for maybe 5-6 people to wait at the host counter. The restaurant is larger than it looks from the outside, with seating for probably over 100 people taking into account the original and expanded sections. Food was very solid and I can see why they have so many locations if they're able to maintain this level of consistency. My friend got the lemon ricotta pancakes $19 which were, light, fluffy without being dry, and you could taste the lemon and ricotta clearly. Nice that it wasn't too sweet and the healthy dollop of whipped cream, fresh-cut strawberries and a drizzle of maple syrup went well with it. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich $21 that came with bacon jam, gruyere, lettuce, avocado aioli, on a ciabatta roll. That bacon jam and avocado aioli were delicious and added the right amount of salty-sweetness and creaminess to the sandwich. The chicken was tender and moist too. The herb fries that came with it were a bit of a let down, some parts were soggy and the herb flavor wasn't particularly present. Solid serving sizes for the price and location. Staff was pretty good about checking in, food came out quickly within 10 minutes of ordering. There are gender-neutral bathrooms in the back of the restaurant. read more
