I love the food and the service! The restaurant is very nice, and is in a great location!

I was super impressed with this place, especially since my wife is celiac. From the warm welcome and immediate seating to the cozy vibe, everything was on point. The hostess (manager? owner?) sat us right away, and our waitress came over immediately to walk us through the menu and our options. We started with the fried zucchini, which was a great call thin, crispy, and flavorful, with a marinara dip that didn't disappoint. For mains, my wife had the lasagna and I got the chicken parm with bucatini, both gluten free. Not just "good for gluten free" genuinely great by any standard. The chicken was thin with cheese baked almost crispy on top. Amazing. And I'm not even a lasagna person, but hers won me over too. To drink, we had some kind of spritz that we both loved enough to order twice. Our waitress was fantastic, but honestly the whole staff was in sync different people kept stopping by to check on us without ever feeling intrusive. They even offered to hold our leftovers in the fridge for us to pick up later, but we knew we wouldn't make it back after our concert. 10000% will be back. read more

So delicious! Started off with the crispy zucchini and meatballs - both were delicious and well cooked. I usually don't eat meatballs and these made me want to eat more! Loved the ricotta on top, too. For the main entree I had the angnolotti and it was so yummy and fresh. It came with some tomatoes which I wasn't crazy about but the pasta and flavor itself would make me order this again. I had it with a chicken cutlet which was cooked to perfection and well seasoned. Please go here for the fried zucchini appetizer and the marinara sauce!! Our appetizer was the best Italian dish I've had in a while. The marinara tastes just like the best marinara you can get in Italy. We did not order the right entrees. And they were super busy it being Valentine's Day, so I don't fault them for some of the errors made. If I was to go back, which I will if I'm in New York midtown again, I would get lasagna and any pasta dish with marinara sauce. The restaurant was a super cute with great decor and ambience. The server was so sweet and super attentive and fast. They were out of lasagna which was disappointing. So my husband got the pepperoni pizza which was so so. We took it back to our hotel and didn't end up finishing it. I had vodka rigatoni. The pasta was a perfect Al dente like it was fresh made in house. The sauce was good but not great. I've had better vodka sauce. I had to salt it a lot. I ordered it with chicken and the kitchen forgot to add the chicken. But you should still eat here. When I say this place is one of the best Italian places I've ever been I'm not joking!! I might be slightly biased since mostly everything there is gluten free/ has a gluten free option but truly everything was just spectacular. Great Italian spot in NYC! Serano's offers classic Italian dishes, with a focus on pizza, pasta, and paninis. They also have a strong focus on gluten free pastas for those that prefer that. We started with the Fried Mozzarella as an appetizer - comes with three pieces but could use more marinara sauce. Solid option as a starter. I tried the Carbonara and was amazed with how creamy and flavorful this dish was. I added the chicken cutlet and loved how thin and crispy it was - a perfect addition to the dish. This is probably my new favorite Italian restaurant in midtown - amazing service, amazing food, and amazing attention to those who have dietary needs! I've always been a fan of Friedman's since I have a gluten allergy and I'm so glad they opened up an Italian cuisine-focused restaurant literally right next door! I've been here a few times with friends and family and have gotten to try a variety of their items: - calamari: 3.5/5, really well seasoned but (here's a likely hot take) honestly almost a bit too crispy for my taste, I wish there was more of the actual calamari protein and chew compared to the outer coating - sausage and pepper sicilian pizza: 4/5, these pizza serving sizes are no joke! the dough is quite thick and pillowy, almost reminiscent of focaccia texture, which I actually really appreciate because most gf pizzas always have a super thin crunchy crust instead. I think one pie can be comfortably shared between 4-6 people if you plan on sharing entrees family style! - caesar salad: 3.5/5, can never go wrong with a caesar salad - they make it super cheesy, though it didn't blow me away or anything - chicken parm: 4.5/5, I really enjoyed the flavor, breading, and tenderness of the chicken parm here, my friends who don't have a gluten allergy literally couldn't taste a difference and all raved about it. - italian meat supreme italian sandwich: 5/5!!! If i had to recommend one item off of the menu, it would be this sandwich! it might sound super simple but this sandwich was SO good - so flavorful, the ingredients were such high quality and fresh and everything went so well together! It comes without protein but she added shrimp. The lemon flavor is very bold. I liked it. Now for the part most people want. It's pricey for the portions. $15 for 3 short mozzo sticks, $24 for the pizza cut in to six 2x2 inch squares. I get it, it is supposed to be authentic. But still. I ended up ordering food to go from here while on a business trip. I wanted to eat in the restaurant but it was packed. Everyone was happy, it was a very lively environment the food. While waiting I checked out their wine selections and they were looking good as well. The food is insanely good, and the portions are huge. Definitely a place to go and split entrees. Serano's was a random pick for me while I was planning a Saturday visit to NYC. I wanted to try a place with gluten-free options that would be relatively close to Penn Station, so I made a reservation the week before. We were immediately greeted upon entering, we were also 15 minutes early, but we were easily accommodated since we were the first guests. The bartender/server was wonderful, very attentive, and made the experience great for my fiancé and I. The menu is short, which often implies things will be fresher, and they certainly were. We ordered drinks, split an order of gluten-free fried mozzarella, and really relaxed during our reprieve from trekking around the city. I decided on the gluten-free cacio e pepe pizza, and I can only say that the crust had absolutely no right to be as good as it was. My fiancé's regular bolognese was also a hit for him. They do offer gluten-free pasta and bread, so there's easy ways of substituting their items to be gf-friendly. Serano's is not one you want to miss out on while in the city. read more

The Serano's team rates 5 stars. I arrived a few minutes earlier than reservation and dinner partner; I was seated immediately at a table which coincided with my reservation request (requests are not guaranteed), I was most appreciative. My server filled up my water glass and asked if I wanted to order anything from the bar, I chose to wait for my friend to arrive. Ambiance in front is warm and comfortable, tables are close but not too close. We sat in the front, there is bar seating off to the side (in front) which I liked because it's not massive. I did not check out the back room. The Drink I had the Serano Spritz, my friend had the white Sangria. Both were excellent although they were served in small glassed, maybe 6oz servings. I ordered a 2nd Spritz, it arrived in a larger glass (I never commented to our server about the 1st glass), the 2nd spritz was not as good as the first. (The wine served at the table next to us was served in standard sized wine glasses). The Food: We started off by sharing meatball and zucchini apps. The meatballs were amazing, tasty with a little "kick" the sauce was delicious. ( would have enjoyed bread to sop up the sauce). The crispy zucchini app- definitely not crispy, very soft and slightly over salted, the marinara and aioli dips were tasty. We shared a Caesar salad, loved that it included anchovies, the salad was great. For our main courses we ordered Eggplant Parm, and Mafaldine Bolognese. I didn't taste the pasta, my friend said it was very good. My parm arrived too crispy on the outside, not very warm inside, I rarely send food back, in this instance I did. The staff was super accommodating and brought out a new eggplant. The hostess came back to confirm that I was satisfied. Overall it was fair, too much cheese and sauce overpowering the spare eggplant, a bit too mushy. I want to love this restaurant and might consider a 2nd visit - TBD. We passed on dessert, which we both regretted afterwards! (with all the food we ordered we took our main's home), even though I'll probably throw out the eggplant, lol sorry! Kitchen Service Super quick food service - if you want to control the pace of your dinner, order in stages, versus ordering all upfront.
