I was in elementary school when friendly bean opened by my home, my mom would take me before school for hot chocolate. They moved locations and I lost touch with going there. Now I am 25 and this is my favorite local coffee shop. Their drinks are delicious, the coffee is great! I like a strong coffee flavor with a well balanced sweetness. Having spent most of my life in Washington State I'm a bit of a coffee snob. I've searched all over the Northland since moving here for a good mocha and Friendly Bean is by far the best. Everyone who works there is friendly and they even remember that I want a straw for my hot coffee! The prices are reasonable and I love the punchcards too. Great coffee, comfy seat .... I really just wanted to relax for a few minutes after a very busy week. Sadly this place needs to be cleaned... old coffee stains on side table running down the legs. Somebody else complained about the restroom, the floor has not seen a mop in forever. Sadly I will not return. Absolutely love "The Bean" My wife and I stop here almost everyday before we head off to our family adventures. I always get a large house blend with sugar free vanilla, or hazelnut, or almond, or whatever else flavor I am feeling that day. The coffee is all freshly ground the old fashion way right there, and it is outstanding. My wife usually gets some frappe, latte, whatever tte and she raves over how great they are. Love the elderly lady that serves us on a regular basis. We have gone through 13 of the buy 10 get one free cards. A must stop for a good old fashion mom and pop coffee shop! read more

Honestly, I'm a little biased. I've been going here for about a year now, to study, to hang, to have dates, and most recently to propose to my now fiance! This place is the BEST! Hands down better than Starbucks. The espresso is richer the frappes are creamier and the service lives up to the name! The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and they have great drink options besides the traditional coffee and espresso. The Friendly Bean absolutely lives up to their name. I will go out of my way and across town so that I can purchase their wonderful coffee and service. In this day and age, Guest Service is unfortunately going by the wayside. However, this wonderful little spot has not lost its way. Every trip is always pleasurable and I know that I will be met with a smile and a thank you. They have a wonderful heart healthy muffin that I also like to get. It tastes much like a carrot cake, but it is much better for you. I have purchased a series of drinks and never have been disappointed. I was driving to Maple Woods for a college visit this morning and I was in desperate need of coffee. I was driving along Barry Road praying for anything but a Starbucks when I spotted the Bean. I made a U-Turn and headed back. I ordered a large Caramel Latte with English Toffee. It was under $5 and delicious. I tipped the guy a dollar and he gave me a punch card. I'm not in this area of the city very often, but I will definitely stop in every single time from now on. read more

Very nice little locally owned and operated shop. I loved them when they were off of Vivion and N Brighton, and like them in their new shop just as much. Love the MCCKC student discount but I must say it's a little loud at times for studying. Give it a shot! Love their blended drinks as well. Sam's pottery is wonderful as well... This place has been my favorite coffee shop for years. I used to go to the dance studio up the street before I graduated and I stopped at the Friendly Bean AT LEAST once or twice a week on my way. If I was going to college in KC, it would definitely be my go-to study spot. My top three drinks are their hazelnut latte, chocolate chai tea latte, and mocha with coconut. They are all great! The staff is the kindest and nicest I've ever met at a coffee shop or restaurant. And the place is just super cozy as well. It's a great atmosphere to study or catch up with a friend. From the outside this place might look like it's closed down, but it's definitely open for business and apparently doing well because they were pretty busy. Let's get the cons out of the way. Don't go if you're in a hurry. These girls were busting their behinds to keep up and it was still a 15+ minute wait. But it wasn't for a lack of effort on their parts. Also, it was extremely warm in there. The heat definitely works. But other than that, I kinda loved it. It was cute and cozy inside. The coffee is really good. I was going to order my typical black coffee but at the last minute decided I didn't put pants on just to try out another black coffee. I ended up getting a Gingerbread White Chocolate Mocha and it was delicious. Not too sweet. Very Christmas-y. I tried their coffee cake too; it was good. I would have liked more baked goods to choose from; the pickings were slim. But I also waited until 11 to go because of the whole "do I want to put on pants" thing. So there might have been more to choose from earlier. Anyway, I'll definitely be back. read more
