Simple, strong & delicious. Not much else to say about this place. As a boring coffee drinker, order a 20 oz black iced coffee. The strength was perfect and the taste had a subtle hint of sweetness, not trace of bitterness in sight. Yes the price isn't the most "friendly" but there's a trade off when you pick speciality coffee places, even when your order isn't the most unique. Just came in this afternoon. Bare bones but charming coffee shop in Hell's Kitchen. Lots of finance types coming in and out. The barista was super friendly. No credit card limit. I went with espresso-- they only pour doubles, so guess I will be a little over-caffeinated this afternoon. It was $3, which is fair to low for the neighborhood. I got it in under a minute. It's not the best espresso I've had, as it's on the bitter side, but not bad. I hope to be impressed by the rest of their drinks! Nice looking pastries as well. read more

Wifi works perfectly, plenty of outlets to keep my laptop charged and it isn't too loud where I am overly distracted. Only thing I would say is that they should add chai to the menu. My whole experience at Frisson Espresso was awful from beginning to end. I walked in after looking for coffee shops in the area with wifi. The space was very small and everyone was cramped in together. It was crowded, not because there were a lot of people there, but because there was not enough space to accommodate traffic in a New York City coffee shop. The person I was with ordered a latte and I ordered the iced tea. I specifically asked what was in it and was told it was just black tea with peppermint. I asked if there was sugar added, and the barista said no. We sat down with our drinks and I got up to ask for the wifi password, which he seemed annoyed about and pointed to the wall where it was written. After getting the wifi password, I tasted my tea and it tasted far too sweet for what they said was in it. I went back up to confirm that there was in fact no added sweetener, and the barista thought I was asking for the wifi password again, and pointed towards the wall with the password again while rolling his eyes before I could say anything. I then was able to ask if there was added sweetener in the tea once again, and said it tasted too sweet to just be iced black tea and peppermint. He then told me that there was honey as well. I wish I knew this beforehand because I could have saved myself from buying a $4 tea that I never even drank. The employee didn't have to look this information up so he obviously knew it, so I don't understand why he didn't say there was honey in it the first time around. I'll never come back, even when desperate for caffeine. read more

A bit of a hole in the wall. I would've walked past if my friend wasn't leading. It was kinda small but there weren't a lot of people so my group of 6 fit comfortably. There's about 4 small tables for two people and then bar stool seating. There's an outlet with a surge strip if you need to charge. Baristas were pretty fast with our drink orders and very friendly. I got a flat white and it took them less than a minute. Brewed coffee comes with a free refill if you plan on staying for a bit. There isn't a public restroom. read more

If you're looking for a straight up coffee place with no frills and extras, this is it, but I believe what makes a good coffee place is the totality, including the ambiance. This place is small with about 4 tables with 2 person seating each and 3? or 4? single window seating. They only have one type of sugar available - raw brown sugar. If you like that great but otherwise you're out of luck. There are also no public restrooms at this establishment. I guess that's how they maintain a good turnover rate so people don't hang around long. Otherwise the coffee is just ok. Nothing fantastic but also not terrible. Forgot to mention that they do have a few pastries behind a glass container. I was about to order a scone, but I saw a small fly inside as well. The place was empty except for two other patrons so plenty of open tables and outlets. Asked the barista if they had wifi to which she said yes. We order our coffees and take a small table in the corner and start working but are told that they have a strict no-laptop policy on Saturdays so we end up having to leave. I understand the policy - they don't want the place to get crowded with people buying one drink every 3 hours, but really, with 4 people in the entire store you're going to say we're crowding the place up? Also way to let us know about the policy not after I asked if you had wifi but immediately after we already bought our drinks. read more

It's a small and cute shop in midtown, and I can say that I love everything about it. The barista was so cheerful and friendly as soon as I walked in. He really helped me decide on what to order.
