As we were searching Naperville for some lunch we decided to try Front Street. Never eaten there before but it was absolutely wonderful. The waiter wad very nice and attendant. The chips and salsa were a delicious start. The Front Street tacos are among the best I've had. The Fajita Torta was huge and tastes great. We had dinner at Front Street Cantina and had an pleasant meal. While strolling around downtown we decided upon FSC because we realized we had a taste for Mexican. Originally we sat down outside but then decided to move inside because it was "cold" ...eye roll.... But no worries as the inside is pretty cool. They did a nice job of dressing things up to still make you feel like you're chilling outside an old Spanish mission or something like that. The dining room is pretty big and has a mixture of tables and booths able to accommodate most any size group. The bar, while a bit smaller, gets the job done right - they make some tasty margs! Being pretty hungry we moved right to dinner and had tacos and enchiladas. Both entrees came out very hot and tasted wonderful. In fact, we both polished off our meals quickly and then had to stop for a breather because we were STUFFED. Their potions are sizeable here and the prices are very modest - we were pleased departing from our meal: full bellies and not-empty wallets. Came here with the family on a Friday evening and it was practically empty. Our server was very nice and attentive but the food was pretty terrible. Everything tasted as if it was previously Frozen and microwaved yet still somehow wasn't hot. We started with the very bland nachos and then I had a brick of a steak with an enchilada while my wife got shrimp tacos. Which she most definitely got food poisoning from. There is probably a reason I've only dined at Front Street Cantina 3, maybe 4 times in the nearly 17 years I've lived in Naperville. As much as I love Tex Mex and Mexican food, as much as my wife, and now 2 boys like it as well, but a recent trip reminded me why I have and will avoid coming back. We went on a recent Sunday early afternoon and none of us enjoyed the food. The chips were fine, salsa was bland. The guacamole tasted like it came out of a packet. Entrees were no better-the kids burrito was covered in green onion and was simply a small burrito, no rice, beans, and the drink was separate as well. Steak quesadillas for $11.50 were tiny and the combo dinners that my wife and I had were poor as well. Meat had no flavor at all. The bill was $67.50 for the above meals, the guac appetizer, and 4 soft drinks before tip. Can't think of much that was positive-there are other places in the areas worth trying for this type of food-even Chipotle is much better. read more

Went in for $4 margaritas and some nachos. Figured they couldn't possible screw up nachos. WRONG. I asked my friend, "Is this brie cheese?" (it was all white, NO cheddar at all) She tastes an isolated piece and says, "No, it's MOZZARELLA!" Not sure I quite have words to describe the confusion. Not jack, not pepper jack, not cheddar, not white cheddar. Mozzarella. What does a Mexican restaurant even want mozzarella for? To make matters more confusing, the guy near us also had nachos. He had some yellow/orange-ish cheese (read: cheddar) on his. Why not us? Who knows. Margaritas were pretty good. FAIL on making us sit inside to drink because Naperville doesn't allow it outside unless there's a fence. Boo! That's a good enough reason to get me to sit inside. So it's been about a year since I've been here, and my return trip came with my boyfriend's family. Week-end late lunch, which is clearly a better time than a Friday night dinner [see previous review]. We had time to peruse the menu, no one rushing us, and everything was correct. I wanted to get out of my "fajitas" comfort zone so I went with the Pedro Pollo, which sounded like it might be an analog of pollo poblano from the description: chicken, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and a "spicy sauce." I asked the waiter what the spicy sauce was, and he said it was made with fajita seasoning. (So much for the comfort zone thing...) I decided to go for it. YUM! There wasn't a "sauce" per se, but just nicely seasoned meat with those veggies on a bed of Mexian rice. I would get this every time I returned. Everyone else enjoyed their meals (enchiladas, taco salads, carne asada, etc.) as well. I did not have a margarita this time so can't see how it compared to my last experience. For downtown Naperville Mexican, this was a good option. For something further afield but still in town, I think I'd still go with Taco Fresco. read more

This place isn't bad, but not great either. There are so many fantastic food options in downtown Naperville, and I wouldn't consider this place to be one of them. I came for a friends birthday party, and I immediately went for the drink menu, because I had a strong craving for a top shelf lime margarita. They had one that fit the bill for me, and I ended up actually having two (good thing we went for a long walk around the area after dinner). The Patron margaritas tasted great, and seemed worth the $8 price. For my main meal, I decided to go with the fish tacos, but I kind of wished I hadn't. The description on the menu for the fish tacos made them sound better than they actually are. In reality they were greasy and flavorless. Some fried items at restaurants are on the greasy side, but I've had fish tacos at other restaurants that were crispy without the extra grease. The only reason I give this place 3 stars instead of two is because our waitress was very friendly and accommodating for our large group of people. All of our food came out within a reasonable time from the time we ordered as well. I think that if I came to this restaurant again (not likely though), then I would just get a margarita and maybe a burrito since it seems like that might be a more safe option. read more

Came here 3 times recently. Once at the end of the winter and my vegan fajitas were outstanding. The last 2 times, not so much. There weren't many peppers and the Portabello seemed unfresh - like it had been cut into slivers, cooking into oblivion and sitting around for days. Disappointing. Tasty Margarita and Chile de Arbol salsa are the winners here. Began this journey with Queso Fondito with Chorizo. Melted Cheese over the meat and pepper blend. It was ok. I really enjoyed the Spicy Pork dish...also in an Arbol sauce. My man said the Cod Tacos were good. All in all an average visit. Our server Zach and the rest of the crew were great. We were looking forward to the re opening of Front Street, but it is definitely not the same as before. The new design is cold and awkward. The main focus seems to be on the new square bar right in the middle of the entire place. The seating on the sides seems to be an after thought as mentioned in a different recent review. The food is the same as before, which isn't a bad thing, but nothing impressive. Also the staff does not seem to follow the mask policy as strict as other places in Naperville. If you were looking forward to your previous Front Street with an upgrade, you will most likely be disappointed if you return. read more

I had an issue with a DoorDash driver in the past and called up when I placed my order online today that I would like someone to seal the bag prior to pick up so that I don't have any missing items during the car ride over. I spoke with a man who said that would be fine and gave me no issue with it. Once my driver came to my door, he made a joke with me about how he didn't eat any of my food, and told me the restaurant told him about my phone call. We were excited to get back to Front Street after the remodel but were very disappointed on many levels. To start, they aren't following the mask mandate at all. We should have just left - bartenders, servers, and the hostess were all mask free. Just one waitress had a mask on, albeit below her nose. I couldn't see the kitchen so I can't speak to that. The food is no longer the same. The salsa was awful, huge chunks of tomato and flavorless. Steak tacos were meh. Consistently good food. Quality ingredients - when you order a steak burrito, it actually has lean, tender steak and not gristly scraps. Salsa is a nice chunky, clearly freshly made in-house, with a nice amount of heat that is not overpowering. Good Mexican and domestic beer selection. The food and staff are still good after the remodel, but the acoustics are really bad in the restaurant now. If there is even one loud customer dining, the whole restaurant is really loud. I'm not sure what can be done about it. There was one loud table on the other side of where my husband and I were sitting and we couldn't hear each other over their talking. I've been eating at Front Street Cantina for probably close to 20 years so that should tell you something. The food is consistent, it's good, not great but always a solid go to in downtown Naperville, I've never had a bad meal or poor service. Portions are decent size. This is probably one of the best taco places around! Perfect location in downtown Naperville with adorable decor and great patio area. The steak tacos were cooked perfectly and the shrimp tacos were probably one of the best I've ever had! Very juicy and flavorful. The service was perfect. Our waitress (didn't catch her name) was very prompt and greeted us as soon as we walked in. She was very bubbly and gave us great recommendations and answered all of our questions. The food was very reasonably priced. Although the food wasn't "authentic Mexican food" it was incredibly satisfying! Definitely will bring friends next time! read more
